Areas to save disk space
- Turn off or decrease size of disk usage for system restore
If your not using the Windows System Restore feature, then why have it enabled?
If you are using it, perhaps you want to re-evaluate how much disk space its using up (which can be several GigaBytes) for saving checkpoints. If you only want to have 1 or 2 good saved checkpoints to restore from decrease the allocated space for system restore to a few hundred meg.

- Decrease the disk usage size of the recycle bin
The most common area on a users PC in which Windows allocates a chuck of space for itself is the recycle bin. If you rather have files be deleted instantly and not put in the recycle bin or you want to decrease the space it uses to hold deleted files

- Empty or Decrease your Web Browsers disk usage for Cached files
Every web browser has a preferences or options area to adjust the temporary internet files and cache usage.
- Disable Hibernation in Windows.
If you don't know what Hibernation is , chances are you aren't using it. You might want to disable it to save a few Gigabytes of space that function requires as shown in the video tutorial.
For Vista users you can open command prompt and type powercfg -H off

-Run the Windows Clean Manager
Windows comes already with a built in cleaner that does simple basic tasks to free up disk space.
To access it click start -> Run -> type cleanmgr -> press OK

14 Tips For Better Blogging

I have collected a few points that I want to share with my readers, I don’t claim this is a professional course for online marketing that is everybody must learn or follow but I just wrote this because it worked for me.

1. Don’t Start to Promote your Blog until you got something to show your visitors.

Think you submitted your blog to 1000 web directories, You already managed to submit your blog to some of the great Search Engines of the planet like Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com. You already shared your blog URL on Social Networking sites like F.B, Twitter and MySpace, You already shared your blog to Social Bookmarking sites like Digg, Delicious, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Mixx and Yahoo Buzz.

All these thing redirecting 10K daily visitors to your blog, BUT you only got 10 to 15 random articles that are in no way related to each other. What those 10 K visitors will do at your blog? They simply open your site and if they found something interesting they read one article and then navigate to some other blog/website. You will not like that at all. So, to make your visitors spend sometime at your blog, you must provide them something interesting, something useful, something worth reading. A famous Australian blogger Yaro Stark calls it a Pillar article. An article that has something in it to attach visitor to your blog. So you must add a few (at least 10) Pillar articles at your blog. Once you done this go and start promoting your blog.

2. Write a Content that is your own and worth publishing

Search Engines are now very conscious about duplicate articles. So if you are stealing content from other web resources that will be useless. But write your own, choose a niche (a field of study or topic) and write a content that is not just content but it is useful. It is telling something, it consists of an opinion, training, a how-to tutorial or news that is exclusive at your blog.

3. Let others know about your blog and yourself

Find blogs that are related to the topic of your blog, visit them regularly and participate in debate. Add positive opinion that is on topic and not a spam comment. Don’t try to put your blog url in comments if it is not related. Normally blogs contain a text field for URL, only put your blog URL in that. If you are expert in a topic let others know about your opinion in a postitive way. If you write a healthy and on topic comment, not only blog author come to check your blog but his/her readers will also come in next day, next month or next year to see who is this expert who made such a nice comment.

4. It takes time

Have some patience, to run a quality Blog is not fun, it needs your attention, your hard-work and your time. Don’t expect success too early, or loose heart on not getting visitor’s attention. Keep doing quality work and one day you’ll get success. Don’t lose heart if your own article is getting less traffic than a copy/paste article. One of my fellow blogger said once, your own written article will never go in vain but it will benefit you in long run sooner or later.

5. Blog Directories, Aggregators and RSS Directories

Submit your blog to few directories like blogcatalog.com, blogged.com, topblogging.com and Technorati.com. Also try to find blog aggregators for your locality or your country and submit your blog into them. This will benifit your blog in terms of popularity in both ways, Search Engine visibility and increasing visitors. Submit you blog to RSS directories that will make it more visible to Search Engine and will provide you a few backlinks. Pingot is a good tool to submit your blog/site’s feed to RSS directories and it is free.

6. Networked Blogs

Install a F.B application in your F.B account called “Networked Blogs” or if you think your blog is already a somewhat popular, develop a F.B page. Add its gadget in your blog’s sidebar, so that your blog visitors can subscribe to it if they have F.B accounts. Use “Networked Blogs” to publish your posts at your profile. F.B is the site that is visited most in every part of the world. Mold its popularity to promote your blog. Your posts might get attraction from your friends and friends of your friends.

7. Social Bookmarking Sites

Social Bookmarking sites play important role in increasing your blog’s visibility. This is the technology of today. Create accounts on famous social bookmarking sites and regularly share your good articles on them. However additionally also bookmark other good links too, to increase your reputation. I recommend Digg, Delicious, StumbleUpon, Yahoo Buzz, Reddit and Mixx. It will take your time a little but benefit your blog very much.

8. Forums and Discussion communities

Join Forums on the same topic you write most in your blog, post your articles there and put link to your blog, visitors will start coming as per their interest. Don’t spam the forums that will lightly get you removed. Participate in the debates and create your reputation.

9. Paid Advertisements

Buying traffic via Google Ad-Words or Yahoo Paid Advertisements is the best option but it requires money, if you can spend a little go for this option too, it works great. I suggest Directory submission and Yahoo Directory is the best.

10. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Implement Search Engine optimization techniques at your blog if it is self-hosted. At free blog providers it can’t be implemented that much. Write every post with wisdom, try to figure out best keywords for your blog as per your blog toppic. In this aspect Google Ad-words keyword tool might help you a lot.

When submitting your site to Google search, don’t forget to register at Google Webmaster tools. It will help you know about keyword through which people come to your site. You can also submit your blog/site’s sitemap to Google that will make sure your blog posts and pages are Indexed by Google. If you don’t know how to create a sitemap or your blog is not based on wordpress you may go for XML Sitemap generator option. You will get necessary guidance there. Yahoo Site explorer can be used for same business.

HTML Headings like H1, H2, H3 and bold/italic words in your posts got more importance by Search Engine. So put Headings in your post, don’t just use big text but make it big by headings.

11. Email Marketing

Email marketing is more targeted and benificial. Develop a subscription system for your blog. At wordpress.com and blogger.com it is done already but at self hosted blogs you need to install plugins for this. When you got such system put a text box in blog/site’s sidebar where users can enter their email address and subscribe to your blog.

Don’t forget the people you know, your family, friends and class fellows, invite them by sending them personal email invitations to check your blog.

12. Relation with Fellow Bloggers

Develop relationship with fellow bloggers, write guest posts at their blogs and invite them to write at your blog as a guest author. Writing at other blog will promote your peronality and the readers of other blogs might come to your blog. Similarly if other bloggers write guest posts at your blog this will also increase your visitors. Ask other blogs for link exchange, this will promote both blogs.

13. Related Content and Internal Linking

Don’t let go a visitor once he/she arrived at your blog, after each post ending put some manual related links to similar posts. There are plugins available to do that but I do that manually. This has 2 main benefits, it helps developing a strong internal linking in your blog and if a visitor reached your blog by Search engine he would find more related stuff and will stay longer time at your blog, and when visitors stays longer at your blog he might drop a comment some where in posts or he might share any of your posts to social bookmarking sites. Additionally doing this will decrease your bounce rate in eyes of search engine.

14. Use Print Media if possible

If you think you are writing good content and that is suitable for Print media, try to ask your local newspaper, magazine or other publisher to add your article in the print media. In cases you manage to publish one of your articles, try to build reputation by this, include your blog url in your articles that will make print media readers to take a look at your blog. There is another type of print media, that is stationary. Add your blog link on your business cards or envelops if you print them for your needs.

1: The development of COBOL (1959)

There are many languages out there, but none has influenced as many others as COBOL has. What makes COBOL stand out is the fact that there are still machines chugging along, running COBOL apps. Yes, these apps could (and possibly should) be rewritten to a modern standard. But for many IT administrators, those who don’t have the time or resources to rewrite legacy apps, those programs can keep on keeping on.

2: The development of the ARPANET (1969)

It is an undeniable fact that the ARPANET was the predecessor of the modern Internet. The ARPANET began in a series of memos, written by J.C. R. Licklider and initially referred to as the “Intergalactic Computer Network.” Without the development of the ARPANET, the landscape of IT would be drastically different.

3: The creation of UNIX (1970)

Although many would argue that Windows is the most important operating system ever created, UNIX should hold that title. UNIX started as a project between MIT and AT&T Bell Labs. The biggest initial difference (and most important distinction) was that it was the first operating system to allow more than one user to log in at a time. Thus was born the multi-user environment. Note: 1970 marks the date the name “UNIX” was applied.

4: The first “clamshell” laptop (1979)

William Moggridge, working for GRID Systems Corporation, designed the Compass Computer, which finally entered the market in 1991. Tandy quickly purchased GRID (because of 20 significant patents it held) but then turned around and resold GRID to AST, retaining the rights to the patents.

5: The beginning of Linus Torvalds’ work on Linux (1991)

No matter where you stand on the Linux versus Windows debate, you can’t deny the importance of the flagship open source operating system. Linux brought the GPL and open source into the forefront and forced many companies (and legal systems) into seeing monopolistic practices as well as raising the bar for competition. 6: The advent of Windows 95 (1995)

Without a doubt, Windows 95 reshaped the way the desktop looked and felt. When Windows 95 hit the market the metaphor for the desktop became standardized with the toolbar, start menu, desktop icons, and notification area. All other operating systems would begin to mimic this new de facto standard desktop.

7: The 90s dot-com bubble (1990s)

The dot-com bubble of the 90s did one thing that nothing else had ever done: It showed that a great idea could get legs and become a reality. Companies like Amazon and Google not only survived the dot-com burst but grew to be megapowers that have significant influence over how business is run in the modern world. But the dot-com bubble did more than bring us companies — it showed us the significance of technology and how it can make daily life faster, better, and more powerful.

8: Steve Jobs rejoining Apple (1996)

Really, all I should need to say here is one word: iPod. Had Jobs not come back to Apple, the iPod most likely would never have been brought to life. Had the iPod not been brought to life, Apple would have withered away. Without Apple, OS X would never have seen the light of day. And without OS X, the operating system landscape would be limited to Windows and Linux.

9: The creation of Napster (1999)

File sharing. No matter where you stand on the legality of this issue, you can’t deny the importance of P2P file sharing. Without Napster, file sharing would have taken a much different shape. Napster (and the original P2P protocols) heavily influenced the creation of the BitTorrent protocol. Torrents now make up nearly one-third of all data traffic and make sharing of large files easy. Napster also led to the rethinking of digital rights (which to some has negative implications).

10: The start of Wikipedia (2000)

Wikipedia has become one of leading sources of information on the Internet and with good reason. It’s the single largest collaborative resource available to the public. Wikipedia has since become one of the most often cited sources on the planet. Although many schools refuse to accept Wiki resources (questioning the legitimacy of the sources) Wikipedia is, without a doubt, one of the largest and most accessible collections of information. It was even instrumental in the 2008 U.S. presidential election, when the candidates’ Wiki pages became the top hits for voters seeking information. These presidential Wiki pages became as important to the 2008 election as any advertisement.

1 To quickly open up a second instance of the same application, hit Shift + click the taskbar menu.

Prevent v 1.0 is a freeware app which runs on all Windows. If you don’t want anyone deleting or renaming or messing around with your data, maybe your younger sibling, then Prevent may be able to help you.

The downloaded zip file consists of:
1. Prevent.exe
2. Pre_1
3. Pre_2
4. Read Me file.
5. Uninstall

Run the Prevent installer setup. The installer only places the Prevent folder in the system Program Files folder. A desktop shortcut will also be created. To run the program, click on Prevent. Set your Hot key to stop Prevent. You may set it as Ctrl+Pif you wish. Hotkeys Win+F8 kills Pre_1 and Win+F9 kills Pre_2, too. But the single hotkey set by you will kill all Prevent processes at the same time.

8. Prevents renaming

Building a Brand for your Blog

Everything you do as a blogger can be duplicated by others on just about every level.
The one thing you can do to help protect your blogs identity and separate it from the others is to build your brand. Having a strong brand is what makes products in the world successful.
Its the thing about a product that really connects to people on a singular level.
When you build your blog it is a good idea to create a brand for it as soon as you can.
This doesn’t mean just creating a snazzy logo but rather the whole look, feel and tone of your blog.

Think of some of the biggest brands on the Internet. eBay for example will only make small digestible changes to the Yellow and gray shades on the site because of the strong brand they have built over the years. Yahoo, until resent had pretty much the same look for over 10 years and even now it still has that same feel they’ve always had.

Here are a few things to think about when creating your brand.

A free WordPress theme is economical but it doesn’t really set you apart.
Nothing says you can’t modify a theme to make it look your own though. A logo or picture of yourself will also help create strong brand. The font you use can even be used to help create your blogs brand.
Its really up to you as to how far you want to go with your branding.
Now that you are creating your brand don’t stop with your blog alone.
Use the brand whenever possible.
Things like your avatars should use your brand so that whenever you leave comments others will identify that comment with your blog.

Likewise when you leave a link you can use a certain anchor text to help identify your brand.

Instructions:

5. Under Virtual Memory at the bottom, click Change.
6. Click the Custom Size button.
7. For the initial size (depending on your HD space), type in anywhere from 1000-1500 (although i use 4000), and for the Maximum size type in anywhere from 2000-2500 (although i use 6000).

8. Click Set, and then exit out of all of the Windows.
9. Finally, restart your computer.
10. You now have a faster computer and 1-2gb of virtual RAM!
I did this personally and it worked great for me.

Actually this tweak is completely useless on newer computers, all it does is set the L2 cache size. Here's a better explanation of it:

Myth - "Adjusting the SecondLevelDataCache Registry value to match your CPU's L2 Cache size will improve performance."

Reality - "If you do not set this registry value, Windows will use the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) for retrieval of the L2 cache size automatically on boot up. If this fails, a default value of 256KB is used. This is where the myth that XP can only use 256KB of L2 cache comes from. But it's false. The SecondLevelDataCache is designed as a secondary source of cache size information for computers on which the HAL cannot detect the L2 cache. The HAL is able to retrieve the L2 cache size from any CPU using the set-associative cache design (Pentium II or newer), it's only the relatively few older processors with direct-mapped L2 caches that the HAL will not recognize. This tweak only applies to older computers (Pentium I or older) with over 64MB of memory. On these older systems, this tweak can improve performance by about 0.4%. Pentium II and later CPUs are not affected."

Some search engine optimization tips

Keep your design simple! Avoid gratuitous uses of flash, images/graphics, and special effects. As cool as these effects are, they hinder or sometimes block the search engine from seeing your sites content. Whenever possible use external elements (stylesheets and javascript). Less code cluttering up your page means search engines can find and index your content easier, leading to better search engine rankings.

Research your competition and choose your keywords carefully. Keyword phrases tend to be more effective. For example: use "Toronto real estate web design" instead of web design. This could mean the difference between competing with 6 million websites or 100 thousand.

Make sure your web pages include good meaty content of at least 250-300 words per page. Search Engines analyze the relevancy of your page/site based on the content. Your keywords should be represented in your content ? if your keywords are not represented, either you have chosen the wrong keywords or you haven’t thought out your content properly. Search engines like sites that change their content regularly so find ways to keep your content fresh but the message clear.

Use Meta tags (title tag, description tag and keywords tag) properly and use different Meta tags on each page of your site! Make sure your title is relevant and between 50 and 60 characters. Your description should not exceed 150 characters and should summarize the content of your page. Most importantly make sure the words/phrases in your keywords tag are represented in your content.

Use alternate image tags. Besides being a good design practice, alternate image tags help the search engines verify the importance of the images on your page. When appropriate use your keyword choices in your alt image tags.

Avoid using only image based navigation on your site. If you are using images as links to your other pages, make sure you absolutely use alternate image tags. Ideally you should also include text based links somewhere on your web page as well. You see this quite often in the footer of some web pages although you can always include test links in the content of your pages as well. Text based links help the search engines find ALL your pages not to mention they make your site more assessable. If your site is complex you should include a site map to help your visitors and the search engines find their way around your site. If you are using a sitemap put the link near the top of your page so that the search engine finds it quickly.

Use heading tags and bold to emphasize your keywords. Don’t over do this! If you have chosen your keywords properly, your keywords should already be in weighted areas of your carefully written content.

Do NOT use auto submit services to submit your site to the major search engines. As long as you have incoming links to your site from a site that has been indexed your web site should automatically be indexed. If you need to submit your website to a search engine do it manually and only once.

Research and gather external links from sites that are relevant to your own. If your site is promoting health food a link from a human resources site will not help your website rankings and may actually penalize your site.

To get better search engine rankings you need to keep it simple, natural and use your common sense. Don’t try to trick the search engines as this can often result in getting your site banned or dropped from the index.

Remember, it can takes month for your optimization efforts to pay off, but when they do you will enjoy better search engine rankings!

1. Slower boot due to installed software

If you install software, device drivers, or other applications that request to be loaded upon a computer's boot, naturally your computer will start up slower. Security software such as firewalls and antivirus applications must start up immediately to help increase your security. Some software partially loads at boot so when you launch applications they seem to start faster. Plus, device drivers and helper software for printers, multimedia devices, and other peripherals may require being loaded at boot to make using such devices in a plug-and-play environment as seamless as possible. All of this increases your overall boot time.

2. Slower overall experience due to installed software

Just as loading these applications slow your computer's boot time, they also may require additional CPU cycles, causing your main applications such as web browsers or word processors to run slower. Plus, more tasks require additional RAM, requiring your computer to use your hard drive as virtual memory. Paging information to and from your hard drive increases the disk thrashing, slowing down your computer further.

You can help offset this somewhat by installing additional RAM if supported by your computer.

3. Uninstall software doesn't always work well

While most applications support an uninstall procedure, these don't always work perfectly. Uninstallers may leave temporary files, items in the Windows Registry, startup tasks to now non-existing files, device drivers that now are not needed, etc. Install and uninstall many applications and the leftover garbage can drastically slow your computer's overall speed.

4. Hard drive fragmentation

As you write and delete files on your hard drive, the locations of files become scattered throughout, and files themselves can become fragmented. This causes longer times to seek for and load individual files, slowing down your computing experience.

This is more of a problem on Windows computers, and while it comes with defragmentation software, it may not automatically run by default and need to be executed manually. Plus, it is debatable how well it actually works. Third-party software claim to do a much better job in defragmentation, potentially increasing your computer's performance.

5 Updates require more power

Updates to your device drivers, software, and operating system just may require more computing power than older versions. This can be due to sloppy programming or the addition of newer features. Plus, as security holes are fixed and workarounds created, such software may require more CPU cycles, RAM, and overall storage space on your hard drive.

Security is one reason why an older version of Windows may run much faster than a newer version. While the older version may seem to work fine, its lack of protection features can expose your computer to all types of security risks.

6. Possible hardware problems

In some circumstances, failing hardware may be to blame. Bad sectors can form on hard drives, and if the drive repeatedly tries to access a file on a failing sector or has to block off certain sectors as unusable due to minor failures, this can increase file access time. Other problems such as software that never used to crash but now aborts continuously can be linked to malfunctioning RAM. Diagnostic programs found on the Internet can help confirm either of these problems if they are suspect.

7. The dreaded malware

Of course, viruses, spyware, and other malware may be to blame. These create additional processes that put more strain on a computer and can increase its overall boot time. Other users may be lurking around your PC via an open port, causing all sorts of nastiness. Malware may be running in the background using your computer to relay e-mail messages, attempt to shut down websites via denial of service (DoS) attacks, and more. Thus, while security software may decrease your computer's overall speed slightly, not having such software (and keeping it updated) can cause an even worse situation.

As you can see, perhaps the debated conspiracy theory of hardware and software makers teaming up to slow computers down as they get older may not be accurate. Installing and updating software can increase your boot time and decrease speed of other applications. Faulty uninstallers leave junk behind that can slow your computing experience. Hard drive fragmentation causes increased file seek and read time. Hardware failures may be to blame for other problems. And of course, there's always the possibility of a malware infection slowing the machine. By understanding the true reasons computers may slow down with age you can take steps to offset these problems.

Internet Connection Sharing
To enable Internet Connection Sharing on a network connection:

1. Open Network Connections.
2. Click the dial-up, local area network, PPPoE, or VPN connection you want to share, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
3. On the Advanced tab, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
4. If you want this connection to dial automatically when another computer on your home or small office network attempts to access external resources, select the Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet check box.
5. If you want other network users to enable or disable the shared Internet connection, select the Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet connection check box.
6. Under Internet Connection Sharing, in Home networking connection, select any adapter that connects the computer sharing its Internet connection to the other computers on your network.

Watch your cookies
In XP, the Documents And Settings folder holds all user information, including configuration settings, favorites, and cookies. The Documents And Settings\Username\Cookies folder is where XP stashes cookies. How do you control the number of cookies you allow on your system? Click Start > Control Panel > Network And Internet Connections > Internet Options. Click the Privacy tab, then use the slider bar to modify your cookie settings. For instance, you can block cookies from sites that use personal identification without your consent. To increase your security, try out the other privacy settings in this dialog. The lowest level is Accept All Cookies while the highest is Block All Cookies, with low, medium, medium-high, and high settings in between. (An explanation of each appears as you move between settings.) Keep in mind that rejecting cookies may limit your actions on some Web sites, and some sites use cookies to track how many times you see a popup, for example, on this website, if you blocked cookies, you would see a popup on every page.

Reduce Temporary Internet File Space
The temporary internet files clutter your hard drive with copies of each page visited. These can build up over time and take up disk space. Even more bothersome is that instead of getting new pages each time IE often takes the page out the temp internet files. This can be a problem if you are viewing a website that is updated all the time. If you are on a slow connection such as a 56K or lower then this can be good but if you are on a fast broadband connection, like me, then you can get away with decreasing the size of your temp internet files to just one meg without any performance decrease.

Launch Internet Explorer.
Select the Tools from the menu bar. Then select Internet Options... from the drop down menu. Once the internet options has loaded click on the general tab. Under the temporary internet files section click the settings button. A settings window will load. Slide the slider all the way to the left so the size indicated in the text box on the right is one. Click OK Click Ok

Turn Off System Recovery
Right click on My Computer and choose Properties. Click on the System Restore tab and check the box Turn off System Restore. (This will increase Windows performance & save disk space)

Enable / Disable Firewall
pen Control Panel and double click on Network Connections. In the new box that appears right click on the Connection and click on the Advanced tab. Check or uncheck the box according to your desire.

I think every one is going to answer - Yes. And a very common belief is that add lot of most searched keywords in the meta tags of your web pages and see your site skyrocketing. But it feels highly frustrating when this magic proves of no avail. Remember, Meta tags alone don't do a magic in getting better placed in the search pages. These Meta tags sure help you to describe your web pages to a search engine and gain a better place in its results. But at the same time they help search engine too to prevent indexing of improper web pages. Which may have good weight keywords in their meta tags but having no relationship with the contents of the page.

Meta tags are the blocks which contain information about the contents of your web page and they exist into the head area of your web page. They are basically meant to communicate with the search engine. Most of the Meta tags are visible to the search engine only and not the visitor on your web page. But, Title tag is one which is visible to the search engine and the visitor as well. Most importantly, it attracts the search engine and the visitor very aggressively. Most search engines consider this tag as the primary information about the site and also an human visitor sees this information as the first thing on top left corner of the browser. Moreover, when one bookmarks the site, the text in this tag appears in the bookmarks list.

In this article, I have tried to focus mainly on 'Title Meta Tag' that how a good Title Meta Tag can render a great help in optimization of a website.

What is the significance of Meta Title Tag?

Amongst the three major Meta tags (Meta Title Tag, Meta Keywords Tag, Meta Description Tag) the Title Tag is one which is given the most weight by search engines' algorithms. In fact, this tag should be written so that it should give the idea about your site instantly. A perfect written Title tag can generate quick and appreciable traffic to your site. The text written in this tag appears as clickable text in the search engine result page (SERP) and if it is really meaningful and conveys most about the web page, more clickthroughs will be the result.

This small example explains the function of Meta Title tag better. Suppose I need to visit San Francisco and need a road map of the city and go to a book store to find the same. There are lot of books on tourism and travel with different titles but my attention will go to a title which says something like "Latest Road Map of San Francisco" rather than a title "All about San Francisco". May be the second book contains better information about the subject I am looking for. But the title of first one speaks exactly about what I need. This how a better title gains priority over the other because of the contents of its title. This is exactly what happens with search engine. It picks the most matching title with the query and places in its result page as clickable text.

Should the Company name appear in Title Tag

Well, I would say sure if your company is really a big entity like IBM, Microsoft or Cisco or some well know brand like Sony, Phillips etc. Because people may want to search for those companies or brands with their names. But in normal cases it should not be so.

Suppose, your company is "Larry Tours and Travels" in San Francisco. Instead of writing "Welcome to the home of Larry Tours and Travels" in the title tag it would be better to write something like "tour operators, travel agents, car rental, bay area tours, san Francisco tours - Larry Tours and Travel". Do a good research to find best keywords and phrases which describe your site best. My suggestion is that the length of the title tag should be between 15 to 20 words making it attractive enough that it looks interesting to the person searching for your business and he clicks through.

Few tips for writing good Title tags.

Try including the content relevant keywords in the title tag. This would help placing your site better in search engine result page (SERP) when someone searches those keywords.

Also do not use repeating keywords and phrases in your title tag because this may be treated as spamming by search engines and they may affect your ranking.

Either don't include your company name in the title tag or add it after few most relevant keywords, phrases into the title tag.

Write different title tags for each web page of your website instead of writing a common title page for the complete site. Make sure that each title tag has relevance with the contents of that web page where it appears.

Try to keep the length of your title tag small (between 15 to 20 words). Some search engines allow small title tags only and truncate the extra part of the longer ones which at times may render your title tag completely meaningless.

I would say that write very meaningful, impressive title tag they are a really powerful can be best tool to optimize your site. The title tag has most dominant role while the search engines make their decision about the theme of the website. When a search for keywords is conducted, the Title tag is given heavy consideration by most search engine algorithms. As I said earlier, since each page in your website is unique so it needs a different Title tag.

So, writing relevant and meaningful title tag is something which may achieve high rankings in search engine result pages (SERP) and result high clickthroughs to your site. The Meta Keywords Tag and Meta Description Tag also need to be taken care of and optimized equally in addition to that of Meta Title Tag to secure a place at the top of the search engines and in convincing a search engine that your site's contents are more relevant than that of your competitor's.
