'My loved ones are testimonials of his legacy' - Ms Stefanie Sun, 35, is a singer-songwriter.

I AM a product of the late 1970s. At the edge of Gen X, not quite Gen Y.

Those in my generation have parents who are part of the "grateful old" - a term I coined not to offend, but in recognition of the fact that they had witnessed the transition from what was to what is under the rule of the PAP.

But my peers and I grew up in a different era. We read English literature and watched American sitcoms. For us, leaders are not idolised, change is openly embraced and alternative opinions are often taken to be "cool" and to be a sign that one has personality.

As we entered the workforce, we heard phrases like "Lee dynasty" and "false democracy".

Suddenly, it was deemed intellectual for one to have another opinion about the man behind the Singapore Story.

Human rights and freedom of the press were pressing issues of the day for my generation - not wealth or capitalism. Mr Nelson Mandela won universal reverence, as did Ms Aung San Suu Kyi. What about Mr Lee Kuan Yew?

In the midst of this, I remembered my father's advice, that I should always strive to have a mind of my own.

I believed it took special insight, otherwise known as wisdom, that comes only with time, to pass judgments or form opinions. More so on a man. I remained circumspect then.

Today, I do not see myself as a direct result of Mr Lee's exceptional accomplishments. I do, however, look to the people whom I love the most as living testimonials of his legacy.

My mother once lived in what was effectively an illegal opium den, but later moved into a beautiful HUDC apartment by working long hours and walking home to save on 25-cent bus trips.

My father washed dishes to pay for his doctoral studies, but later could afford to take us on holidays to Malaysia and eventually New Zealand.

Eventually, my son will have a shot at making it to the best university in Asia.

He will be able to afford an HDB flat on his own and will enjoy beautiful greenery and waterways wherever he chooses to work or live in Singapore.

He will not have to worry constantly about air pollution, clean water and two-hour-long traffic jams. And he will be secure in the knowledge that hard work, good ethics and a good education will get him somewhere.

Perhaps these have come to be taken as basic expectations of many of my fellow Singaporeans. But these are needs that I have decided are important to me and my loved ones, now and for the future.

I remember vividly my meetings with Mr Lee. Some were formal and austere, rather quiet and awkward - or at least in my imagination. But there were also fleeting moments of intimate friendliness and genuine warmth.

It was hard to not be in awe of this man. I remember thinking to myself: This must be what it feels like to be a fan.

I remember one incident when we were to be photographed together. As I kept a respectful distance, he impatiently asked me to move closer to him.

Another time, he was in good spirits and asked me jovially who was the lucky man whom I was married to.

I like a smiling Harry. (This is how I address him - a rather rude way, I know, to speak to the founding father of Singapore, and therefore, I do it only in private.)

It felt like a very precious moment for me.

I remember singing his wife's favourite song, Que Sera Sera, at the Business China Awards in 2011, not long after her demise. (Senior Minister of State) Josephine Teo later told me in private that she saw tears in his eyes. That was probably one of my proudest moments as a singer.

Happy 90th birthday, Mr Lee. May your days be filled with smiling moments.

2005年，孙燕姿是首位在香港红馆开演唱会的新加坡艺人，当时门票在3个小时内全部售罄，应观众要求加演两场，非常火爆。

2006年第六届百事音乐风云榜，颁奖孙燕姿获港台最佳女歌手奖。出道以来，她拥有10张个人专辑，约1900万张唱片销量，38场演唱会，200多项音乐大奖(专业奖和人气奖兼有)。

　　从海外华人歌手，到天后接班人，孙燕姿用十年的时间完成了自身的蜕变。清新、脱俗，又摆脱了台湾、东南亚歌手的“小清新”气质，她大气而不卖弄，她温和而非柔弱，她开朗而非高调，孙燕姿用歌声和气质迷倒了横跨数十年的乐迷。

　　从2000年6月8日发行第一张专辑到现在，孙燕姿的10年就是华语流行乐坛由盛而衰的10年。她是典型唱片工业做出来的优良产品，有不多不少的个性，有恰如其分的个人形象。并且幸运的是，她抓住了唱片工业兴盛期的一个尾巴，在那个年代，唱片销量过百万，并不只是一个笑话而已。并且，更幸运的是，她在彻底潮退前以淡出歌坛的形式实现了安全降落，比起同时代的其他“小天后”如蔡依林、萧亚轩来说，孙燕姿的美好大部分还在记忆里，类似于白月光与朱砂痣。

　　唱片工业最后的成功之作

　　有“天后推手”之称的陈泽杉一直很得意于花了2秒钟发掘孙燕姿的经历。当年孙燕姿还只是李伟菘音乐学校的学生，“记得当时是在伟菘车上听一段合唱曲，有十几个人唱，突然我听到一个女生的一句独唱，一下子就被她的独特声线和唱腔所吸引，从此就认定了她。”

　　而后是两年的准备，2000年6月8日，首张专辑《孙燕姿》发行，获得台湾2000年度专辑销售总冠军。当年的金曲奖最佳新人就被她摘得，并且还击败了当年出道的周杰伦。《我要的幸福》获得台湾2001年度专辑销售第一名，《风筝》获第三名。

　　后来张韶涵的出道多少避不开模仿孙燕姿的尴尬：瘦小却有着高亢的爆发力。那是唱片工业未曾捉襟见肘时，制造一个偶像的方式：设计你音色里与大众见面的那部分，设计你的专辑曲目。此外，还要设计你接受采访时的角度；选择哪一种笑容，是成为微笑女王还是要带着点嘴巴咧到耳根的傻劲；设计你爱穿什么风格的衣服，设计你白马王子的品位。

　　孙燕姿是这种工业制度下的优良产品。直到现在，她还是人们眼里那个“单薄却倔强”的女孩，是在风地里，穿着白裙，唱“是否成人的世界背后，总有残缺”—与萧亚轩一出道便是都市轻熟女的形象截然不同，孙燕姿不会去压低声音唱“人的心中有太多秘密，所以黑夜藏剧情”，而是定位于刚刚挣脱女孩的身份，却套不进女人躯壳里，处在断裂地带的freshman。于是，她是有着问天问大地勇气的，歌里的成分少一点的谈情说爱、多一点的山山水水的，“清新自然”型女歌手。

　　虽然很多年后人们知道，孙燕姿一连留了10张专辑的短发，只是因为唱片公司为她打造的形象。一旦挣脱那种束缚—或者说，当那种束缚再也不能带来更多的成功之时，孙燕姿几乎是报复性地，立刻留起了长发，穿起了高跟鞋，涂上了深色眼影。她说，“其实，我不是很想要留长发，也不觉得短发很糟糕，我只是向往有选择权”。

　　士别三年，尚能饭否？

　　孙燕姿的“中途退场”发生过两次。第一次是2003年，正值事业高峰，却宣布休息一年，而被并称为“小天后”的竞争对手蔡依林带着《看我七十二变》转型成功。等到2004年孙燕姿回归，《Stefanie》销量尚可，可到了2005年《完美的一天》销量却十分惨淡。当年的原因多方意见不统一，有人认为是放了一年假之后人气下降，有人认为是华纳推广的问题？?时隔几年，回头看，销量惨淡只有一个终极原因：唱片工业正在急速崩盘瓦解。随后，孙燕姿转嫁到了EMI旗下新厂牌Capital，成为蔡依林的签约师妹。

　　再也难以出现如孙燕姿刚出道时那样全方位雕琢出来的辉煌。唱片公司似乎已经无力从个人形象、歌曲特色等等所有方面上，去制造出一个无论是从音乐上还是从市场上，都有个性有标志的歌手。选歌的标准简化成了“K歌”，歌手们的面目模糊。这真是一个最坏的时代。

　　孙燕姿的老对手萧亚轩日子也不好过。萧亚轩有张专辑叫做《1087》，意指距离上张专辑发行隔着1087个日子。这么长的空置期，一直据称和孙燕姿有关，是因为华纳为了争取与合约到期的孙燕姿续约，砸下大笔预算宣传她的《完美的一天》，不料销售不如预期，可资源用尽，无钱再出萧亚轩专辑。这样的传闻，在当年直接导致了两家粉丝的对骂。

　　2007年孙燕姿发行了专辑《逆光》，专辑的制作人仍然是李伟菘，风格回到最初，口碑与销量都堪称不错。只是，2007年的人们已不会相信任何新闻里的销量数据了。当时的“埃及勒索门”事件，事后被质疑是其自导自演的宣传手法。

　　这是孙燕姿至今，最后一张专辑。3年多时间，她除了演唱会巡演，和电影《花木兰》主题曲之外，几乎没有其他作品问世，大部分时间在新加坡，也很少接受媒体的采访。

　　“两年前，我突然对‘孙燕姿’这个产品感到了厌倦，所以决定暂时退出。以往歌手们只需用心地唱歌，现在这种日子成为过去。当唱片销量下降，公司便会想尽办法赚钱，这样的唱片制作有违我当歌手的本意。”孙燕姿如是说。

　　她的粉丝仍然期盼她的回归。然而旁人知道，孙燕姿是回不来了。这一片土地已经贫瘠到无法再供养一个天后。而孙燕姿如今的长发形象，你可以说她是找到了自我，摆脱了唱片工业的控制，也可以说，唱片工业对歌手已经毫无控制力。而歌手的 “自我”到底对大众来说有多么重要呢？不重要，真的，其实，很多时候，人们只爱假象。

　　首张专辑《孙燕姿》发行，获得台湾2000年度专辑销售总冠军。

　　《The Moment》销量150万张，宣布暂别歌坛一年，成立个人音乐公司Make Music。

　　携《Stefanie》完美复出，全亚洲热卖220万张。

　　获得新加坡南洋理工大学杰出青年校友奖。

　　2006年

　　新加坡十大杰出青年。音乐风云榜共举行了六届，拿下“港台最佳女歌手奖”四届、“港台最受欢迎女歌手奖”四届。

　　2007年

　　荣膺新加坡杰出青年，献唱东南亚国家联盟40周年庆典主题曲《Rise》。

　　2008年

While Sun didn't explicitly admit that she and Dutch husband Mr Nadim van der Ros were trying for a baby, Singapore's best-loved songbird did drop a hint by expressing her desire for children.
Speaking to The New Paper at the Singapore Hit Awards - an annual music event that honours the best in Mandopop - on Saturday night, Sun said, with a big grin, that it was the next natural step for the couple.

Stef's mole is gone for good

LOCAL Mandopop queen Stefanie Sun has said goodbye to the trademark mole at the corner of her right eyelid.

Reports of her new look began surfacing three weeks ago, after the 33-year-old star graced a publicity event at Beijing's renowned 798 Art Zone as the Singapore Tourism Board's tourism ambassador.

Sharp-eyed members of the Chinese press immediately noticed that the pixie-faced singer was mole-less, sparking speculation that she got rid of the mole as "it had powers to bring about amorous affairs and affect one's chances of pregnancy", reported Chinese news portal Sina.com.

The songbird confirmed to The New Paper in an e-mail interview that the spot was permanently gone.

Stefanie sun rocks! Yan zi won five out of the 28 awards up for grabs, including Most Popular Female Artiste and surprisingly Best Album Producer for her 2011 album "It's Time". "It's Time" is the first album she worked on as a producer, alongside Lee Shi Shiong, Lee Wei Song and Kenn C.

"I am so emotional! I hope I can continue to do better," said a smiling Sun, who went on stage with her collaborators to receive the award.

Her wins include Best Album Producer, Most Popular Female Artiste and the Asia Media Award.

Interview of Stefanie and Jolin on Love

They have been good friends for more than 10 years. But when it comes to affairs of the heart, Taiwanese pop princesss Jolin Tsai and local songbird Stefanie Sun are extremely different.

The two were recently featured in an interview together, where they talked about their views on love.

Jolin said that she is more able to tolerate, while Stefanie is more rational.

"[I] would not allow someone to treat me badly," Stefanie said.

Both Jolin and Stefanie's boyfriends are tall and have a healthy image. When asked if they would fall for the same guy, Jolin replied, "[It] wouldn't be possible."

"Why? Do you dislike mine?" Stefanie questioned quickly, eliciting laughter from those present.

When talking about her ideal guy, Stefanie said, "I like the sun, so [those who] exercise is a bonus. He has to be humourous and optimistic.

"Those three points are OK, and he must be dependable. To me, being handsome is a bonus," Jolin added.

Stefanie has been dating Nadim, her boyfriend, for five years now. The local songbird had said that she would marry earlier than Jolin and expressed that love and family would always be her top priority. Stefanie even stated that she would like to have four kids.

On the other hand, Jolin had only been dating New Zealand model Vivian Dawson for half a year and admitted that she currently "has no thoughts of getting married".

It's time to get married!

Sun admitted through her music label Wonderful Music that she will indeed wed her Dutch boyfriend of five years Nadim Van Der Ros very soon and had already filed a marriage application.

"She originally wanted to find an opportunity to announce it, but never had the time. Who would have thought the media would go public with it before she did," a spokesperson from Wonderful Music Sun told Hong Kong media on Wednesday.

The spokesperson expressed that details of her nuptials will be kept under wraps though Sun "will share the good news with everyone when the time is right, since it is a joyous occasion".

Sun also thanked all her fans and friends for their well-wishes in a micro-blog post on Wednesday.

"Oh, already so full, full, full of happiness! Heee, thank you all! Very heart-warming," wrote Sun.

No wonder Sun was confident enough to declare in recent interviews that she would get married before good buddy Taiwan singer Jolin Tsai did!

Wedding date speculation

Since Sun's confirmation of her wedding plans, speculation have been rife when her wedding date will be.

Many believe it may be sometime in May though her marriage application provides no indication of when she will marry.

According to marriage laws in Singapore, once their marriage application has been filed and notice of their marriage has been given, a couple can then schedule a solemnization of their marriage, a ceremony where they will sign the marriage certificate that makes them legally man and wife.

The solemnization can be held 21 days after a marriage notice has been given (excluding the day their application) was filed at the earliest or three months after their filing date at the latest (including the filing date).

If the couple's marriage is not solemnized within three months, they can simply make another application though they will have to go through the whole waiting period again.

SINGAPORE - Popular Chinese singer Stefanie Sun is said to have gotten secretly married at the end of last month.

A Shin Min Daily reporter discovered a marriage application while surfing the Registry of Marriages website, which showed that Sun, 32, had registered her union with boyfriend of 5 years, Nadim Van Der Ros, on 31 March 2011.
The ROM search showed details of Mr Van Der Ros' birthdate, as well as Sun's dialect name, Sng Ee Tze.
In past interviews, Sun had indicated that she would get married when she had the time, without providing any specifics.
The couple were wedded in low-key ceremony last month, when Sun came back to Singapore for a publicity tour.
Sun had been in a relationship with her boyfriend since 2006. He also moved from Hong Kong to Singapore in order to be with her. He is originally from Holland.
Sun has also been seen in public with Van Der Ros at the Ironman triathlon until last year, showing him support. He was a participant in the athletic competition.

陈可辛新片《武侠》候选名单被曝

继汤唯,巩俐接连被曝是陈可辛新片《武侠》的女主角大热门后，日前，某网友在微博上曝光了剧组最为完备的“入围名单”。从名单上来看，赵薇及李小冉也加入这场“混战”，而孙燕姿、桂纶镁与王络丹则成女二号候选。名单被曝光后，导演陈可辛第一时间发出声明，并指出随着候选阵容流出，会对接下来的选角造成困扰。而在接受采访时，“我们制作”的卢小姐也坦言，“此事对候选演员已经造成了伤害。”同时，她也表示，至今为止还没有一位女演员是确定出演的。

　　曝光名单已伤害候选者女主演仍未确定

　　日前，有网友在曝光了一组在陈可辛办公室拍摄的照片，其中在一块贴了许多照片的纸板墙上，新片《武侠》中主要角色的名字及候选角色，一一在列。男一号甄子丹的角色为“刘金喜”，金城武扮演“徐百九”。而在女一号“阿玉”一栏上，从上至下依次为巩俐、李小冉、汤唯和赵薇；女二号“罗少”的候选名单则依次为孙燕姿、桂纶镁与王珞丹。可以猜测，《武侠》演员的选择范围，应限于这组照片。据悉，此次曝光的缘由是因剧组人员带朋友入组玩耍，对方因喜欢金城武，用手机拍下贴有演员照片的纸板墙并上传到微博的。

　　就此，在接受采访时，“我们制作”的卢小姐直言，“这是我们一次工作中的失误，对于这样未经允许就曝光剧组信息的行为很遗憾。而这次不负责任的曝光会对候选的演员造成伤害，但伤害究竟有多大，我没办法说。有很多演员是陈可辛导演私下接触，还在洽谈的。”被问及名单是否属实时，她表示不便透露。不过，卢小姐坦言，至今为止，依然没有任何一位女演员是确定出演的。而杜先生也表示，“《投名状》开机前一天，才找到徐静蕾进组，陈可辛对于演员的选择非常谨慎，不到最后一天，不会轻易点头。”

　　女一号的四位人选中，“第一志愿”巩俐是陈可辛多年前便想合作的，二人早已是惺惺相惜，近日为邀巩俐加盟，陈可辛还亲自出马赴京探班，若她能加盟，凭借她在好莱坞闯荡多年累积的人气，加上甄子丹、金城武，即组成了梦幻海外卖片的阵容。而李小冉得以挤入“第二志愿”，许是占据了先天优势。星美是陈可辛的“我们制作”觅得的最新伙伴，而李小冉作为星美旗下艺人，加上“鄢颇门”及出演影片《无人驾驶》后巩固的地位，基本上已晋升“星美一姐”。

　　“第三志愿”汤唯是最早被媒体曝光的入围者，然而在其积极复出之际，又是片约不断，此前的《白鹿原》已因档期问题无缘出演，如今的档期能否演《武侠》也是未知。另外，在今年香港金像奖之后，陈可辛曾在受访时透露赵薇与章子怡将是新片女主角的不二人选。加上当年《如果?爱》时，陈可辛一度考虑让赵薇饰演孙纳，最后因为一些客观的原因，而失之交臂。不过，赵薇曾表态产后复出第一部戏不考虑古装片，或许这也是她位居女主角候选名单之尾的原因。

女二号偏走中性风 孙燕姿银幕处女秀或献出

　　从女二号“罗少”的名字来看，应该是挺有男孩子气的角色，片中更有女扮男装的可能。孙燕姿、桂纶镁、王珞丹等三位具有清纯偏中性气质的女星入围了竞争，从纸板上贴出的照片来看，陈可辛看中的也都是其清新的短发形象。近年来，孙燕姿已有进军影坛之势，先是试水客串了《十二莲花》，又有不少新片在接洽中，如能邀其出演，必然为影片增了不少亮点与观众群，而正式的银幕处女秀也将成商业片一大卖点。桂纶镁与汤唯同门，极可能“打包”亮相；而王珞丹亦是星美旗下艺人，有投资方作为靠山……三位女演员各有优势。

　　每一部戏的演员阵容，在没有最后和制片方签约之前，都是不可以以任何形式对外公布的，从事电影制作这么多年，这一直都是行业内一条不成文的规定。

　　《武侠》之前已经与甄子丹和金城武签约，但在女主演方面，直到今天，我们还在慎重考虑，此时演员候选阵容的意外流出，很可能会对接下来的选角造成困难，并带给演员不安，对此我深表遗憾。

　　谢谢大家的关心，希望大家不要再对这件事情追问，以免造成更大伤害，关于《武侠》的相关信息，待一切确定后，我们会第一时间通知媒体。

`在乐坛沉寂已久的孙燕姿，被曝即将再次复出，而她的复出合约也备受关注。早前传出了多种版本，先是说她续约华纳，再到转投新索等，不过其中有关孙燕姿与新加坡海蝶合作的传闻最为靠谱，而双方合作“试水”的世博新加坡馆主题曲《感动每一刻》也取得了良好的口碑。据知情人透露，目前双方的合作已经基本确定，相关专辑和项目已经开始启动。

　　早前孙燕姿在隐退期间，曾自曝想与男友“闪婚”，但是一年过去了，两人的婚事却没了音讯，而在音乐上也是无声无息，十分令人费解。对此，孙燕姿的新加坡好友蔡女士透露：“孙燕姿这些年确实厌倦了台前的艺人生活，很想回归常人的生活，结婚生子，但这并非表示她要放弃音乐事业，而她现在与男友的关系也依旧稳定，只是婚事推迟了而已。”而有关孙燕姿唱片事业的各种传闻不断，先是被传续约华纳，后又传即将转投新索，甚至连新专辑都开始预购了，不过以上传闻后来均被孙燕姿本人否认，惟独与海蝶的合作，双方的回应十分暧昧。

　　近日，另一知情人、音乐制作人吴先生在博客中透露，“孙燕姿与海蝶合作一事基本确定，双方接触过程中若干签约合作模式被几次推翻，最后采纳的合作模式正是孙燕姿男友提出的合作方案，为体现双方的合作诚意，此次孙燕姿加盟海蝶的签约金高达3000万元，这笔庞大的签约金有近千万是用于未来三年孙燕姿专辑的打造计划，剩余大部分折现成公司股权置于孙燕姿名下。”因此，孙燕姿此次签约海蝶，实质上也是入股，而为了这次合作，孙燕姿的男友不仅为孙燕姿的发展出谋划策，更是全力支持她的复出事业，并将两人的婚约无限期推迟。

　　据知情人吴先生透露，孙燕姿加盟海蝶后的首张专辑暂定名《化蝶》，目前已经开始筹备，而除了专辑计划之外，海蝶集团也给孙燕姿很大的发挥空间，辅助其实现自己当“音乐制作人”的想法。据悉，孙燕姿加盟后将和海蝶一同打造一支华人女子音乐天团，这个梦想早在其出道前就有，但是一直未能实现，为此，孙燕姿已于今年在新加坡成立了自己的制作公司，目的就是为了能更加自主地创作自己喜欢的音乐作品，实现自己当“音乐制作人”的想法。因此，此番加盟后，海蝶集团旗下的海蝶森林还将与孙燕姿的制作公司组建一个音乐新人部门，该部门由孙燕姿负责经营统筹，并筹办“完美天团”的艺人招募。(记者任宏伟)

　孙燕姿可望成王力宏师妹？

上月，王力宏的SONY唱片总经理刘天健，在台北远东饭店密会孙燕姿父亲，两人相谈甚欢，是否有意争取孙燕姿？他含蓄的说：“两年前就谈了，她有她的想法。”

　　孙燕姿在新加坡开公司，给自己更多的音乐发挥空间，不少唱片公司不断向她招手。日前海蝶唱片中文事业部总监陈正刚，坦言极力争取她的唱片发行，也邀她与私交甚笃的林俊杰、阿杜、蔡健雅录新EP〈感动每一刻〉，称是试水温。

　　近日盛传SONY争取孙燕姿，刘天健不愿正面响应，笑说：“当天是周杰伦的发片记者会，结束后碰到她爸爸，就上楼喝一杯。”他说，孙燕姿原属华纳唱片，当时华纳总经理陈泽杉离职后，他接下总经理一职，便认识孙爸。两人是高尔夫球友，当天仅聊球聚的事。
