TIKKUN LEIL SHAVUOT. Maariv Service followed by Torah at night, with an all-star line-up at Beth Shalom with Rabbi Jonathan Case, Rebecca Pinsker, Dr. Leon Spotts and Prof. Dr. Katja Vehlow.

Because Shavuot commemorates the giving the Torah on Mt. Sinai, the Rabbis ordained that for this occasion, a special table be set for a sumptuous dairy holiday meal, and then the remainder of the evening be devoted to Jewish study. Come join us!

Rambam explains in Hilchot Teshuva that reward and punishment are predicated on our free will and thus be held accountable for his actions. Coercion is negates the value of free will. Did HaShem really force our ancestors to accept Torah?

3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Remembering at Memorial Park. Join us at Memorial Park as we remember the Six Million who perished during the Holocaust. Yahrzeit candles will be available for lighting.

7 p.m. Community Yom HaShoah Program at Tree of Life. Dr. Marie Gross will share her experiences. The "Holocaust Remembered" exhibit will be displayed at Tree of Life before the service, then moved to the Jewish Community Center for the month of April.

A Community Passover Seder will be held in the Social Hall at Beth Shalom on the second night of Pesach, Thursday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m.

Cost: Adults $20.00 (over 12 years old), children $12.50 (4-12 years old), children 3 years old and under are FREE.

Please RSVP to Beth Shalom Synagogue by Friday, April 3. Beth Shalom cannot guarantee spaces after that date. Reservations will be made for you upon receipt of your check.

Want to sponsor a solder or a college student for Passover?? Mail your donation to Beth Shalom.

Deadline is made so as to guarantee all reservations prior to April 3. After that, we will continue to accept reservations until all seats are filled.

Starting in the middle of next week, Time Warner will launch Shalom TV. Please note it may take a few weeks... it might be mid- or late-March until all our programs are available.

Owen Chesnut will deliver a talk on Shabbat morning, “Layers in Time: Recent Archaeological Discoveries in Jerusalem.” Chesnut will share some of the meaningful discoveries from the First and Second Temple periods with our congregation.

Owen Chesnut is a Ph.D. student in Biblical Archaeology at Andrews University. He is working on his dissertation, which is a site report of Tell Safut, a site 12 km north of Amman in Jordan. In addition he is teaching several classes at the undergrad level at Andrews. He has participated in the Temple Mount Sifting Project, excavated at Tell es-Safi, and is currently a staff member and undergrad field school coordinator for the sites of Tall Jalul and Tall Hisban. Owen received his BA in Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology and Old Testament studies from Wheaton College, and received a MA in Historical Geography from Jerusalem University College.
