Or will we engage the world with love and hope? God comes to Elijah in his hour of need and sends him back into the world. We are sent into the world as well.

This text tells us that the glory of God is only possible if lived together, in community. Eugene Peterson states, “Reaching out is an act of wholeness, not only for others, but for us. For it takes a whole world to understand a whole Christ.”

Because of this we are also called to submit to God’s calling in our lives in response to the grace of Christ that is often revealed in our baptisms.

In this sermon, Pastor Mat continues the journey through Advent by looking at Micah 5:2-5. Pastor Mat reminds us that God is working in us and through us. Wherever you find yourself, God calls you to participate in God’s promised redemption. Micah was longing for one who would bring unity and peace to the world, just as we long for one to come restore the world today. As we prepare for Christmas, we prepare for the one who will come and make all things new.

In this sermon, Pastor Mat preaches from Luke 3:1-6. He talks about how John the Baptist prepared for the coming of Christ by giving himself away. In a world of shootings, violence, and injustice, we can learn a lot from John the Baptist. In preparing for the coming of the Lord Jesus, he refused to fight for his status, privilege, and rights. He simply gave himself away. Preparing for Christ’s Advent among us must involve giving ourselves away for the sake of others.

In this sermon, Pastor Brian finishes our series on the book of James. He speaks from James 5:13-20. In this sermon, Pastor Brian zeros in on verse 19-20. “My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and is brought back by another, you should know that whoever brings back a sinner from wandering will save the sinner’s soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins” (James 5:19-20). Brian utilizes a modern day parable of the prodigal son and asks what role do each of us play? Are we the father welcoming others back? Or are we more like the bitter, jealous brother?

In this sermon, Reverend Cisca Ireland talks about pain and suffering. Everyone encounters pain and suffering. She reminds us that just as Christ has suffered for and with us, He enables us to be a helper and an advocate for those with suffer among us-not that we have it all figured out, but we are on the journey together. Reverend Cisca speaks from: 1 Corinthians 12:12-27, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 and John 19:1-3, 16-18, 32-34, 38-42. We can offer ourselves to a wounded, hungry, and lonely world.
