This abnormality is called presbyopia. More than one in four people suffer from some form of it. Presbyopia is an ailment when a person cannot view objects at a close distance. Instead they have to hold the object an arms length away to bring it into focus. This condition worsens with age and can develop in anyone. Presbyopia is a condition that results from the reduction in the eye's flexibility. Similar to astigmatism, it is also because the shape of the eye becomes relative rigid and cannot adjust to accommodate clear sight at various distances. Although people who are approaching retirement age often suffer from this problem, it can occur in people who are only in their 40's. Other symptoms related to this problem include an inability to focus, squinting and headaches.

The symptoms set in gradually and is not noticeable to the person. But there are a number of early signs that may suggest you have presbyopia. One of the most clear signals that you are at the onset of presbyopia is that you will begin to hold reading material a little further than you had been used to. Of course, this is an obvious example of discovering you have visual problems. There are a variety of other symptoms that may seem innocuous or unrelated at first; but are, in actual fact, sure signs of optical issues.

The first of them is usually headaches. Most people don't consider that it is due to eye problems. The fact is that straining to read items often causes headaches and a sense of tiredness. Additional symptoms include headaches that happen after completing tasks like writing and knitting. A person will squint and focus extremely hard on the task at hand and yet may not notice the strain. During the process they are too focused to realize the onset of the headache. But once they've completed the task, they feel the onset of the pain.

Here is a quick test to confirm that it is an issue related to sight. When you are at the pharmacy, try a pair of non-prescription glasses. Start reading something. Now, if you do not encounter any of you problems, then it is very probably that you have presbyopia.

Once you have been diagnosed with this problem there is no course of treatment to completely return your eyes to their original healthy state. It is just a result of aging. And, that is normal. There is no way to halt it without halting the aging process itself.

In order to ensure your vision remains at a functional level, try a pair of reading glasses or contact lenses. Another way of correcting presbyopia is a more permanent way. It involves surgery that is conducted with lasers. This surgery is called LASIK surgery.

However, there is no certain method of avoiding presbyopia. It is important to see your optician as soon as you feel your vision starting to worsen so he or she can prescribe a pair of contacts that will enable you to see clearly again

Dry Eyes

Choosing Colored Contact Lenses

There are colored lenses that correct the vision and give a different color to your eyes.

The next step is to buy the right lens. In this category there are mainly three different kinds of lenses available. These are visibility tints lenses, opaque color tints and light filtering tints.

While choosing lenses you must consider your complexion as well as the color of your eyes. So, for those who are fair the right colors are blue, light green and violet, and if your complexion is rather dark settle for something bright and reflective.

If you have a reddish tinge to your skin or hair, what will look good on you is light brown. Green or gray are your colors if you have clear blue eyes.

However, visiting the eyes specialist is a must for those who have a vision problem so that the right kind of lenses could be chosen for you. Moreover, it is important that you take medical advise on whether or not you should wear contact lenses at all. Most of the time there aren't any problems wearing contact lenses but this additional precaution ensure that possible complications are detected beforehand.

Eye Tests

When someone is diagnosed with glaucoma it can be a very difficult time in their lives. A diagnosis of glaucoma often times leads to many questions and concerns about the disease, not only from that individual but his or her family and friends. Please take the time to review this information to help familiarize yourself about the disease.

Glaucoma: A Brief Overview
Glaucoma is not a single disease rather it is a group of diseases that gradually steal ones sight without warning and often times without any prior symptoms. The loss of vision occurs due to damaging of the optic nerve. There are many forms of glaucoma however two are most prominent, the first, primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is the most common form of glaucoma. Next is a slightly more rare form known as Angle Closure Glaucoma, although rare much more dangerous and fast acting than POAG. Glaucoma is a chronic non-curable disease and it must be treated for life.

Number of Cases
It is estimated that at least 3 million Americans have glaucoma but only half of those know that they have it. Glaucoma accounts for 9% to 12% of all cases of blindness in the U.S., approximately 120,000 people are blind due to glaucoma. Roughly 2% of the population ages 40 – 50 have elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) which is the symptom that leads to glaucoma, the rate is even higher in individuals over the age of 70 where the percentage climbs to 8%. African-Americans between the ages of 45 – 65 are 14 to 17 times more likely to develop glaucoma than a Caucasian in the same group. Estimates are in the range of 65 million suspected cases worldwide.

Treatment Options
Glaucoma may be treated two possible ways; most often times with medication in the form of eye drop or surgery and in some cases both. Both the eye drops and surgeries work by reducing the amount of pressure on the eye caused by excess fluid. Glaucoma medications must be taken daily to control the pressure in the eye. Other forms of treatment include:

Medications

Laser Surgery

Filtering Microsurgery

Alternative Medicine

Medical Marijuana

Nitric Oxide Synthase

Note: Speak to your personal physician if you think one of these possible treatments is for you or if you have any questions.

Advances in Research
Their have been many advances in research to help understand and treat glaucoma’s effects. New drugs are constantly being developed and better surgeries are being performed all in the effort to help the world cope with this problem. Recent advances have found that a drug used for Parkinson’s disease named memantine can also be used to help treat some effects of glaucoma. The drug Memantine is able to bind itself to cells of the optic nerve and help protect them from any further damage. Another form of treatment advancement is a new type of surgery. This procedure is known as Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) and was approved by the FDA in March 2001. All these advancements are making it possible to better diagnose the disease and help those that already have it. Without donations for research funding from generous donors we would be at a significant loss of information regarding this disease.

Understanding Glaucoma

One of the most common causes of blindness for people aged over forty years is glaucoma and it affects around one in fifty people in this age group. People are often unaware that they even have this condition as they may not suffer from any obvious symptoms. Nonetheless, it is important that it is detected early to avoid severe deterioration of sight.

The eye is separated into anterior and posterior chambers by the lens and by a muscle, called the ciliary muscle, which supports it. There is also a structure called the ciliary body which manufactures a fluid called aqueous humor that fills the anterior chamber. This needs to be continuously drained and, when glaucoma is present, this does not happen. This causes pressure in the eyeball to rise, thus causing problems with sight.

There are three major types of glaucoma and they are as follows:
1. Angle closure glaucoma
2. Open angle glaucoma, and
3. Narrow angle glaucoma

The angle is where the iris meets the cornea. It is also where the fluid drains from the eye.

In angle closure glaucoma, the angle gets blocked. Fluid continues to be made but is unable to drain. Because of this, the pressure in the eye builds up to a level which is harmful.

With open angle glaucoma, the angle stays open but fluid builds up when the structure at the back of the angle becomes blocked.
Narrow angle glaucoma is a condition where the iris and the lens touch, trapping fluid. The iris bulges forward, effectively closing off the drainage angle and causing acute glaucoma.

Other types of glaucoma include:
1. Congenital glaucoma
2. Pigmentary glaucoma, and
3. Secondary glaucoma

Congenital glaucoma is rare and affects infants. These children are normally diagnosed by the age of one and are usually born with a defect in the drainage system of the eye.

Pigmentary glaucoma is also rare and happens when the pigment from the iris blocks the drainage system. The system is eventually damaged because of the inflammation caused by this condition.

Secondary glaucoma is normally caused by injury, infection, tumor, inflammation or and enlarged cataract. Any of these conditions can lead to secondary glaucoma.

Often, people with glaucoma don’t even realize that they have a problem as there are no obvious symptoms. The eyesight deteriorates so gradually that it is often unnoticed. The only real way of knowing that glaucoma is present is by a physical examination of the eye by a doctor or optometrist who may be able to see the problem by examining the eye with an ophthalmoscope.

An optometrist may notice if there are any areas of blindness in the part of the eye that is not used for detailed vision. This is the area affected with glaucoma initially. The area of the eye used for detailed vision is not affected at first and this is why people don’t notice the onset of glaucoma for some time.

Treatment usually consists of drops that are placed in the eye three or four times daily to improve the rate of fluid drainage. Sometimes, surgery may be required to create a new outlet for the fluid. Treatment does not always work and, in some cases, the person may become progressively blind no matter what treatment is used. Once sight has been lost, it cannot be restored, so early diagnosis and treatment are essential.

Dealing with Strabismus

There are many eye issues out there. Some are familiar like astigmatism, and near- or far-sightedness. Strabismus is an eye problem as well and is more commonly known as cross-eyed or lazy eye. Strabismus can be either of those problems and they can be healed without the use of artificial lenses like glasses or contacts.

Simply put, Strabismus is the inability of both eyes working together to focus on an object. To see things clearly, both eyes need to focus on the object. This process takes a lot of mental focus and can be straining if one tries too hard. The eyes need to work together to get the distance correct and look at an object at the same time.

If we lose concentration, the eyes will actually do their own thing. One eye may be focused and the other is off in its own world refusing to participate. We call it cross-eyed when one eye is focused and the other is turned out or slightly up or down. Lazy eye is when one eye takes longer to catch up to the other one.

When you are stressed, the eye muscles tense up and become strained. When the eye muscles are too tense, they may pull the eye in whatever direction they feel like. Sometimes Strabismus is more of an unconscious problem. Problems between the thoughts and feelings inside may cause one eye to look away. The left eye is the feeling side and the right eye is the thinking side. Depending on which eye is the lazy one, you may be able to figure out the inner conflict.

Children and adults who are diagnosed with Strabismus often also have symptoms of ADHD. These people have the hardest time finding stability and fight for attention between two people. These thought patterns can cause the person to feel out of control which will only worsen the problem.

One way to solve the Strabismus problem is to relax. Figure out what the inner conflict is all about and take steps to make peace. Relax and take time out for yourself, is the best cure for any vision ailment.

Naturally Better Vision

Of the five physical senses, vision is the most dominant sense. Yet, many people need corrective-lenses to see clearly and is now considered normal. There, however are ways to have better vision naturally without the use of any artificial means and complicated procedures like surgery.

Blink Regularly:
Blinking cleanses and lubricates the eyes. When there is no tension, your eyes blink 10-12 times every minute, or about once every 5 seconds. But people who do not see clearly tend to stare and unconsciously hold their eyes open, which causes strain as well as the feeling of dry and tired eyes. Consciously remind yourself to blink every 3-5 seconds. The more you blink the better it is for your eyes.

Use your Peripheral Vision
At the same time that you are focusing on one object, images are also coming into your eyes from your peripheral awareness – from the left and the right, and from the front of and behind what you are directly looking at. Unfortunately, people with poor vision have trained their minds to so intently focus on just one thing that they block out their peripheral awareness. This “putting on of blinders” breeds mental fatigue and a tense style of concentration.

Keep your Eyes Moving and Change your Focus
Staring is the most common bad habit in regards to poor vision. Normally, the eye moves slightly 50-60 times every single second, constantly changing what it is looking at. This subtle movement is essential for clear vision; you can unlock tension in your visual system by remembering to change your focus frequently. This encourages your eyes to become more relaxed.

Avoid Daydreaming
The word daydreaming is used to mean any mental activity, whether or not it involves images, that captures a person’s focus while their eyes are open. If you close your eyes and imagine looking at a distant scene, your eyes respond to that, and change their focus, as they would if they were actually looking at that distant scene.
So, if you’re driving down the road and you’re thinking about something else, your eyes are caught in a dilemma, what should they be seeing? On the one hand, they are trying to bring the road into focus and on the other hand, are trying to focus on what’s in your mind. This causes you to stare, creates visual tension and sends mixed messages to your brain.

Look with the “Eyes of a Child”
Engage in your world as a child would as if you are seeing everything for the first time.

Apply these tips consciously and regularly and you’ll find that not only will your eyes start to feel more relaxed but your seeing will become clearer.

<category scheme="http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#" term="vision.
Becoming a popular form of vision correction is laser eye surgery and lasik.

With the amazing advances in lasers and eye corrective technology, there is no doubt, why this type of procedure is the number one corrective eye surgery today.

Laser eye surgery is a safe and a successful form of vision correction.

Another option for vision correction is a lens transplant. This surgery is becoming more popular as an alternative to laser surgery. As there are many people who feel uncomfortable with the idea of laser surgery. Therefore, this is a great alternative for those people. A lens transplant is a simple surgery and just as successful as laser surgery. You have the opportunity to have the lens of your eye taken out and replaced with a lens that has the vision qualities you require.

/>

The ancient Egyptians had a cure for "night blindness". They fed the patient lots and lots of liver. Perhaps they thought they were appeasing the Gods of sight. In 1930, the first fat-soluble vitamin was discovered; Vitamin A, which, it turns out, does indeed appease the Gods of sight.

Vitamin A is best known for improving eyesight, particularly at night. But the eyes are not the only part of your body grateful for your generous consumption of Vitamin A. Your skin also benefits as well as your hair, mucous membranes and nails.

Your immune system benefits too, giving you added resources to ward off infections. Bones and teeth are strengthened with proper amounts of Vitamin A, and even the risk of some cancers can be reduced with Vitamin A.

Vitamin A can be found in the bright orange colored foods we enjoy. Like pumpkins of course, carrots, squash, peaches, apricots, cantaloupe, mangoes and yams. But again, Vitamin A is much more than meets the eye, because it is not actually Vitamin A that turns the fruit and vegetables orange, but a precursor to Vitamin A called beta carotene. Beta carotene does not become Vitamin A until your body processes it.

And Vitamin A is just as likely, if not more so, to come from protein sources such as dairy products, egg yolks and some fish. And the queen of all Vitamin A sources is liver, that ancient Egyptian God of sight. The Vitamin A in protein sources is real Vitamin A, no processing required.

Other great sources of Vitamin A are dark green vegetables, such as Swiss chard, broccoli, spinach and beet greens.

As important as vitamin A is to over all health, an overdose can be harmful to bones and skin, causing weakness and brittleness, even leading to fatigue and vomiting. In most cases, it is better to take a liquid multivitamin as there is very little chance of getting an overdose that way.

Also, increase your intake of beta carotene sources to avoid an overdose. Whereas your body absorbs all the Vitamin A it takes in directly, it converts only the beta carotene it needs to get the vitamin A you need.

Are Contact Lenses Right For You?

If you need vision correction and are wondering if contact lenses are a good alternative for you, there are a few things you need to take into consideration.

Think about your lifestyle. For example, do you participate in any sports? If you jog, do aerobics, or other jarring sports, you will likely find glasses annoying. They will have a tendency to slip and fall off, or you will have to purchase a strap to keep them on. Even then, they may fog up when you sweat or sweat may drip onto them. Contact lenses will save you all this trouble. You will be able to see clearly and won’t have to worry about them falling off. If you play contact sports, you may not be able to wear glasses, or you may have to invest in goggles large enough to cover them, or even more costly, prescription safety glasses. If you are a swimmer however, contact lenses may not be a good choice, as you could lose them if you open your eyes underwater.

Another factor to bear in mind is maintenance. Glasses get smudged and need to be cleaned occasionally to optimize your ability to see through them, but keeping contact lenses clean is critical not only for your vision, but for your health as well. If you don’t clean your lenses properly or often enough, you can put yourself at risk for an eye infection that could possibly leave you with vision loss that cannot be corrected. Using disposable contact lenses can make taking care of your lenses easier, but you still will need to make sure that your hands are very clean before putting them in, and take care of them properly if you take your lenses out and put them back in for any reason. If you don’t think that you can add these steps to your daily hygiene routine, then contact lenses may not be the best choice.

Quality of vision correction is one area where contact lenses are superior to glasses. Since the contact lenses sits directly on your eye and covers the cornea completely, you will have corrected vision all around, whereas with glasses, there is no correction for your peripheral vision. That can be problematic for activities like driving, or if the quality of your vision is important in your profession.

Speak to your eye care health professional about your options. They can explain the pros and cons of wearing glasses or contacts, and help you make the best choice for you.

Smooth Transition to Contact Lenses

So, you've made the decision to wear contact lenses! The excitement is building and you can hardly wait to see the "new you." But just a few minutes of educating yourself on the "basics" can make that transition from glasses to contact lenses successful the first time out. Just follow these few suggestions:

Have your eyes examined and fitted by a reputable eye care specialist. Your doctor not only can make sure your prescription is right for you, but they will take into consideration the overall health of your eyes, as well as your daily activities and budget when recommending the type of contact lens that will best suit your needs.

Today, contact lenses come in many different types, styles and colors. But not all will be suitable for you or your lifestyle. Your eye care specialist will help you make that decision.

Don't wear your contacts longer than recommended. When you first begin wearing contacts, your doctor will suggest limited wear-time, increasing at intervals until you wear them all day with comfort. Wearing contacts too long in the beginning can be harmful to your eyes and even irritate them to the point that you can't wear them at all.

After the initial phase, follow the recommended wear-time for the type of contact lens you have. Some lenses are "extended wear" and can be worn for extended periods of time. Some are daily disposables. Be sure you wear them only for the recommended length of time. But, above all, never wear your contact lenses longer than they are comfortable. Your eyes will let you know when they've had enough!

Always make sure your hands are clean and lint-free before inserting or removing your contact lenses. Dirt, lotions, soap and chemicals (or even lint from a towel) can be transferred to your contact lenses through touch.

Contaminated lenses can cause eye irritation or even blurred vision or worse. If your contacts sting your eyes, remove them immediately and clean them thoroughly with the recommended cleaning and disinfecting solution.

Keep your eyes lubricated! Some people are more prone to dry eyes, but contact lens wearers in general need to keep moisture in their eyes. There are many saline and rewetting solutions on the market. Ask your doctor to recommend a solution for your contact lenses. If you are prone to dry eyes, there silicone disposables available that can help reduce dry eye irritation.

In fact, they can be worn for up to 30 days continuously, assuming they are comfortable. If your contact lenses dry out and stick to your eye, put a few drops of rewetting or saline solution in your eye and close your eyes for a moment before trying to remove the contact lens. Never use saliva or water to rewet your contact lenses. Use only eye drops that are recommended specifically for contact lenses.

Clean and disinfect your contacts daily (even extended-wear contacts). As soon as you insert your lenses in your eyes, promptly clean the contact lens case with a sterile solution or boiling water.

Make sure it's dry before closing the lid. When you're ready to remove your lenses, remove them one lens at a time and clean them with the recommended solution. There are many solutions on the market, some requiring you to rub the lens in a few drops of the solution.

Read and follow the directions carefully. Place your lens in the case and fill with the appropriate soaking and disinfecting solution. Once a week, clean your contacts with enzymatic cleaner. This helps remove protein build-up.

The eyes change shape so they can focus and move up, down, and side to side.

As with any muscle in the body, without proper exercise and training the muscles can weaken as we age. Most people need glasses because the muscles become too weak to do their job.

The lens of the eye hardens with age forcing the muscles to work harder. The eye muscles can be trained to work no matter how hard the lens get. It is the muscles around the eye that control the shape of the eyeballs. Once you learn how to exercise and train these muscles it is easy to put them to good use and avoid the need to ever uses corrective glasses.

Almost all eye problems are due to mental strain and excess stress on the eyes. Learning how to relax the eye and the eye muscles is the best thing to ensure you will never need glasses. Relaxing your eyes may sound difficult, but it is much easier than you think. We cause our eyes unneeded strain by looking at things that annoy or irritate the eye. Take some time out to focus your sights on pleasant things. Put photographs on or around the desk at work of things that bring joy and happiness. Look at these pictures when you are feeling especially frustrated or stressed and concentrate on relaxing and calming down.

Practice relaxing the eyes at night while lying in bed. In the darkness, close your eyes and cover them with a sheet or blanket. Let your mind think about pleasant things such as people, places, or things that bring you joy. Thinking pleasant thoughts helps relax the eyes which make them softer. The softer the eyes are the more easily they fit into their sockets. When the eyes are relaxed, they don’t stress or strain.

Practice relaxation techniques until they become more natural. Take the time during the work day to relax the eyes for at least 10-15 minutes. You will find you are more energized and can focus more clearly on your work.

Improving Eyesight - Near or Far

There are two eye ailments known, Myopia and Presbyopia. These are otherwise known as near-sightedness and far-sightedness.

Myopia is caused by the eyeballs elongating. This can be caused by looking at objects close up for long periods of time. Myopia becomes a problem due to eye strain, pressure or anxiety. Looking at materials close for long periods of time without a break can cause the eyes to strain.

Near-sightedness can also be contributed to mental strain and psychological issues. Myopia can be caused by anxiety or nervousness about the future. Subconsciously the person may be afraid of what lays ahead of them and are unable to look ahead to the future and as a result have a hard time being able to see objects in the distance.

Presbyopia is the ability to see things in the distant but not things close up. Far-sightedness usually starts affecting people in their 40s. This is when the lenses of the eye start to harden. This ailment is considered to be part of getting older and so we often just accept the problem and get glasses.

Presbyopia can also be be caused by psychological issues. People start to look too far to the future and refuse to look at things right in front of them. They allow their focus to be on things like retirement instead of looking at what needs to be attended to today such a fixing the leaking faucet.

Both these ailments can be avoided by allowing the eyes to move around naturally each day. If you are studying something up close for most of the day, spend an hour or so looking at things in the distance. If you are looking at things far away grab a book and read some pages.

Better Vision through Less Eye Strain

Mental strain is the main cause of eyesight problems and ailments. If strain can be eliminated from the eyes, eye sight will improve naturally. Teaching the eyes to relax is an important factor in getting rid of vision problems. Unfortunately, outside stressors and strain cannot always be controlled. The only thing we can control is our reaction to outside sources, but those outside factors can really do a number on our eyes.

There are a number of things each day that can cause us stress. Some are within our power to chance, but most are not. Financial problems, heartache, family problems, death, illness, or weather are some of the stressful factors we face in our lives. We may be able to chance a financial situation, heartache, or a family issue, but it’s hard to control the weather or a death.

One thing you always have control of is thought patterns. If negative thoughts are keeping your down, you are the only one who can change that pattern of thought. Dealing with your negative thoughts can actually solve many of the problems we once though were out of our control. Thinking more positive will cause less strain in the family and eliminate those problems. Positive outlook on life can make you feel better and leave you less susceptible to disease and illness.

It is human nature to look for outside sources and reasons for our own negative behavior. We tend to blame other people or the weather or the traffic for our negative thoughts. Although, these outside sources can initially make us angry or frustrated, we are the ones who decide to stay in the negative mind set. Negativity causes stress and strain in our lives and causes excess strain on the eyes.

Take charge of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Take time to figure out why you are feeling so negative. What is it that is it keeping you upset or frustrated? What steps can you take to fix those problems and emotions? Once you figure out what is causing the emotions, fix it. Don’t wait for others to come and fix it for you, you will be waiting a long time.
Well, it does. A healthy diet and exercise is good for your health which in turn will keep your eyes working properly.

A healthy diet includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, proteins, and dairy products. For proteins try to add more fish into your diet, it has the essential Omega-3 fatty acids that are great for the brain and mental focus. Dairy products are good but stay away from pasteurized and homogenized milk because they tend to clog arteries and limit the eye circulation. The best vegetables are carrots, spinach, bean sprouts, endive, celery, and cucumber.

Everyone feels the need to splurge every once in a while, but too much processed and deep-fried foods can cause serious complications on eyesight and health. Stick with foods that are high in vitamins A, B, C, D, and E as they are all just the nutrients the body craves. Some other treats that are high in nutrients are sunflower seeds, raisins, pecans, soy beans, liver, and apricots.

The body comes complete with its own pH balance system to keep an equal amount of acid and alkaline. Too much acid causes uric crystals to develop around the joints leading to arthritis. The acid also damages the muscles around the eyes. The body needs fruits, vegetables, grains, and animal products to maintain the balance. Fruits and vegetables reduce the amount of acid in the body; grains and animal products increase the acid. The goal is to find the perfect balance between the two. Most people don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables, so to find balance start there.

Finding a good mix to the foods you eat together can help the body break down foods and digest nutrients properly. Too many carbohydrates taken with protein, like meat and potatoes, can be hard for the body to break down leaving you feeling as if food is just sitting on the gut. Proteins should be mixed with vegetables, meat and a salad. The body will be able to break it down easily and the proper amount of nutrients will be absorbed.

We need them to see and enjoy the world around us. They allow us to read and get work done. They help remember images and they keep our dreams alive at night. The eyes are also sensitive and vulnerable to outside damage. They are one of the few organs that are on the outside of the body, protected only by a thin layer of skin, the eyelids.

The sun is a powerful and wonderful thing. The sun is great for your skin and gives us valuable Vitamin D. Each day find the time to spend at least an hour in the sun. The sun has great healing powers and the natural light is as important as food, water, and air. Never look directly at the sun; of course, it can burn the retinas. Wear some kind of protection like sunglasses, a visor or hat to protect the eyes

Televisions and computers are used in our daily lives but they are hard on the eyes. They force our eyes to stare for too long and don’t offer the eyes enough movement. The distance and angle doesn’t change either, so the eyes remain looking at a still object for too long. It is not always possible to avoid television or computers, especially computers. Look away every so often and focus on things far away to give your eyes a chance to move and adjust. Try not to spend long hours in front of the television or at least let your eyes wander during commercials.

Reading is never harmful for the eyes, but it helps to enjoy what you are reading. The eyes will be more relaxed when reading a novel than when reading a text book full of new information. Learning to relax no matter what the subject is the key to enjoying reading. Dim lights and small print may be problematic at first, but the eyes will adjust when relaxed. Reading in bed can be relaxing and a great way to fall asleep.

The eyes are sensitive organs, but learning to relax and keep them protected can ensure great vision for a long time.

For Better Vision Manage Stress

The eyes are surrounded with small muscles that help move them around and lengthens and shortens the lenses. A life of stress on the eye muscles can cause some serious problems later in life. The best way to prevent future eye ailments is to learn to manage your stress.

The concept of managing stress is much easy said than done, however there are some stress management tips that can help. Stress happens each and every day so learning how to best deal with the stress is an important and necessary step.

The first step in managing stress is discovering what it is that is stressing you out. This might be a little hard if you haven't stop to think about what causes you stress. One of the biggest stresses can be from always running late to meeting, to work, to picking up your children. Make a commitment to yourself to plan on arriving five or ten minutes early. This is a great way to lessen your stress. If your to do list is overwhelming cut it done to the top priority items that need to be dealt with in the near future. Take a look at your list and decide if there are any items that you could delegate to other family members or co-workers. If traffic gets you stressed, take another route that is less crowded.

Work almost always seems to be the number one stressor in people’s lives. Most people feel overwhelmed with the amount of work they always have, but never ask for help and always take on more. Learn to say no. Saying no isn’t going to get your fired; it tells your boss you are aware of your limits and you have just reached them. It is better to complete five amazing projects, then seven or eight mediocre ones. If the work load is too much, talk to your boss or co-workers and let them know you need help.

Simple relaxation techniques can help reduce the stress in your live. Take deep breaths. Close your eyes for a few moments and allow them to relax. Look around and away from the computer a three or four times an hour. Too much strain or stress on the eyes will only cause vision problems.
