Self Organization is a bronze sculpture that utilizes a 1938 Underwood 14" carriage typewriter as a foundation for eight individually sculpted tentacles. This sculpture will never have a copy, there is no edition and is truly one of a kind, taking around five years to complete.

The concept of this piece refers to Moore's Law, which postulates that all intelligent beings at some point reach self knowledge, a recognition of "I". This creature comes to life and reaches for the letter I, in spite of being a strange and unexpected hybrid. This is a metaphor for all of us, as we seek self organization and realization.

Christina Bothwell creates fantastic and strangely compelling figurative sculptures, which range from fascinating to disturbing. She studied painting under Will Barnett at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, but gradually moved to working three-dimensionally using ceramics and cast glass as well as antique toys, taxidermy animals or small furniture parts. Bothwell’s pieces are often a union between her own mythology and lucid dreams. They allow us to enter into a fertile subconscious and reveal a vulnerability we may recognize as our own.

VICTOR'S WAY SCULPTURE PARK: A Contemplative Garden Gallery

Victor's Way is a private park in the village county of Wicklow, Ireland, with a vast array of bizarre attractions and creepy sculptures. The outside sculpture gallery was founded by owner, Victor Langheld, who was born in Berlin, traveled around the world and lived with different religious orders in Thailand, Japan and Sri-Lanka. When he settled in Ireland, he sponsored the construction of this park and designed 24 granite and 3 bronze sculptures himself. During his travels, Victor spent a lot of time on contemplating the meaning of life and getting acquainted with various philosophical approaches and cultural traditions. Hence, the sculptures in the garden are designed in a way that calls one to contemplate about the meaning of the world or the sculptures themselves.

Victor’s Way is not a fun park for families. Ideally chatty companions, children and dogs, all of which disrupt the peace and quiet of the contemplative ambience, are asked not to be brought. Here the use of mobile phones (save for photography) is an absolute no-no. Ideally the visitor should slow down to half or quarter normal walking speed. Ideally the visitor should sit down on the benches provided and absorb into his or her inner (future, hence perfect) world and/or the serene forest atmosphere.

Philip Jackson is a contemporary Scottish artist known for his bronze sculptures depicting life-sized elongated figures. “My sculptures are essentially an impressionistic rendering of the figure. Where you see the figure seemingly grow out of the ground, the texture resembles tree bark, rock, or lava flow,” he’s said of his work. “As the eye moves up the sculpture, the finish becomes gentler and more delicately worked, culminating in the hands and the mask, both of which are precisely observed and modeled.” Born on April 18, 1944 in Inverness, United Kingdom, he studied at the Farnham School of Art. His larger than life figural works, can found in public squares in cities across the United Kingdom. In 2009, he was appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order by Queen Elizabeth II. The artist currently lives and works in West Sussex, United Kingdom.

BETTY BOOP: SNOW-WHITE by Max Fleischer. Featuring Cab Calloway as Koko the Clown (1933) Snow-White, also known as Betty Boop in Snow-White, is a film in the Betty Boop series from Max Fleischer's Fleischer Studios[1] directed in 1933.[2] Dave Fleischer was credited as director, although virtually all the animation was done by Roland Crandall. Crandall received the opportunity to make Snow-White on his own as a reward for his several years of devotion to the Fleischer studio, and the resulting film is considered both his masterwork and an important milestone of The Golden Age of American animation. Snow-White took Crandall six months to complete.

A magic mirror, with a face resembling Cab Calloway, proclaims Betty Boop to be "the fairest in the land", much to the anger of the Queen (who resembles Olive Oyl). The Queen orders her guards Bimbo and Koko to behead Betty. With tears in their eyes, they take Betty into the forest and prepare to execute her. Betty escapes into a frozen river, which encloses her in a coffin of ice. This block slips downhill to the home of the seven dwarfs, who carry the frozen Betty into an enchanted cave. Meanwhile, Koko and Bimbo fall down a hole and arrive at the same cave (with the Queen, who turned herself into a Witch), where the evil Queen turns them into grotesque creatures as they sing the St. James Infirmary Blues. With her rivals disposed of, the Queen again asks the magic mirror who the fairest in the land is, but the mirror explodes in a puff of magic smoke that returns Betty and Koko to their normal states and changes the Queen into a hideous monster. The queen monster chases the protagonists until Bimbo grabs its tongue and, with one mighty yank, turns it inside out, leaving the skeleton monster to flee away. Betty, Koko, and Bimbo dance around in a circle of victory as the film ends.

This plot, such as it is, is really more a framework to display a series of gags, musical selections, and animation. Critics have cited the film as having some of the most imaginative animation and background drawings from the Fleischer Studios artists. Mae Questel performs the voices of Betty Boop and the Olive Oyl-ish Queen, and Cab Calloway is the voice of Koko the Clown, singing "St. James Infirmary Blues". Koko's dancing (including some moves that look like a "moonwalk") during the "St. James" number is rotoscoped from footage of Cab Calloway.[citation needed] The film was deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 1994. Also in 1994 it was voted #19 of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time by members of the animation field. The film is now public domain. Escape into reality is a combination of a painting, a relief and a sculpture, it outlines a transition between real and virtual world, between 2d and 3d form, between sensed and tangible ... Is it possible for a form to be able to think something or convey a message...and if there is no direct message, is it possible for it to contemplate itself? Reflection on fine art which finds in a situation when it tries shocking in order to be spotted or makes an effort to walk out to reach a looker – on in the streets because an onlooker tends to attend galleries still less and less frequently. This way galleries, except the most prestigious ones, become sort of "art cemeteries" where only the relatives or closest ones come to see it. What in fact an art is and where its boundaries are if there are any? Art used to be rather craft in past, more than anything else... Only the last century upgraded artists and attributed particular magical secrecy and nobleness to them... Art tries to be new and discovering, so is an artist a scientist or an inventor? Modern art is a conceptual one and it can seldom defend itself, so does it make an artist a rhetorician or a philosopher? If art needs a form to convey an idea, should an artist be a skillful craftsman? If art is supposed to be digital, is an artist due to be an expert on information technologies? Is an artist a diplomat or a strategist who can present nothing like something and make the viewers believe in it? Who actually is still an artist and who is not? As long as an artist can be all and exercise anything, why everybody is not an artist? Will any object become a piece of art being exhibited in a gallery and will a person who places an object in a gallery become an artist? What is then the purpose of art? – To convey an idea or draw attention by means of a special, ingenious or more sophisticated form to things around us? Or should art be made use of as an aesthetic supplement and is more likely to be the design? If art is supposed to be another form of communication, does it need any commentary? Or – is art something what is useless and that´s why there are galleries to make it usable? As it is difficult to find a boundary between real and virtual, it is impossible to limit the art. I don´t know what a painting thinks about itself if it does think anything at all, nor I know if form is important for art. Supposing there is no form, energy, which can be turned into form, remains ......... Boundaries don´t exist...............

Isabel Peppard is a Melbourne, Australia based multidisciplinary artist who works across the mediums of film, sculpture and stop-motion animation. As a silicone technician she has worked with luminary local artists such as Sam Jinks, Adam Elliot and Patricia Piccinini. Her work in film has screened at top-tier festivals, including MIFF, Sitges and Annecy, and has been broadcast on national television. Her short film Butterflies won the Dendy award at the Sydney Film Festival and received an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts award nomination. Through her diverse practice, Isabel creates rich narrative imagery that explores themes of love and psychological pain, emotional viscera and the monstrous feminine.
