The last session of this most wonderful conference!! We don’t want it to end because we ‘Feel Our Savior’s Love’!

Sacred Covenants

We should thank God for sacred Temple Covenants. God fixes the terms. We choose to accept His terms, and if we do, we receive the promises affixed to the Covenant.

God promises to send a Savior to His Children and made a Covenant with His Children. In the Book of Mormon, the Resurrected Lord identified the people as the Children of the Covenant.

The Covenant God made with Abraham and later reaffirmed with Isaac and Jacob includes several promises:

Jesus the Christ will be born through Abraham’s lineage;

Abraham’s posterity would be numerous, entitled to an eternal increase and also entitled to bear the Priesthood;

Abraham would be a father of many nations and certain Lands would be inherited by his posterity;

All nations of the earth would be blessed by His seed.

Some of these promises have fulfilled; others are pending and will be fulfilled in these Latter-days. Prophets knew that some would be fulfilled ONLY in the Latter-days.

Abraham’s promises and covenant have been renewed with the restored Gospel through Joseph Smith. We receive our Patriarchal blessing to give us our lineage back to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Men who worthily receive the Priesthood, receive the Lord Jesus Christ; those who receive the Lord receive God the Father; and those who receive the Father receive ALL that He has!

Ours if the responsibility to help fulfill the Abrahamic covenant to bless all the people of the world. This is why we have missionary work. This is the time of the promised gathering of Israel. The Lord is counting on us!

The Book of Mormon teaches us that the Lord has not forgotten His covenant with the House of Israel. He has blessed us with The Book of Mormon. It invites us to remember Him and to know Him. It is another testament of Jesus Christ.

Children of the Covenant have a right to receive His doctrine and to know the plan of salvation. We claim it by making covenants. We keep the commandment by obedience to His commandment. We renew our Baptismal Covenant with the taking of the Sacrament. Ultimately in the Holy Temple, we may become joint heirs to the blessings of an eternal family. Celestial marriage is the covenant of exaltation

As Children of the Covenant, God’s Law is written in our hearts. We must be known as Covenant Keepers.

What Think Ye of Christ?

We should all consider what He Himself taught about who He was and what He was sent to earth to do.

Jesus taught that He was The Only Begotten Son that the world through Him might be saved. God confirmed this, “ this is My Beloved Son….”

Jesus taught that His appearance was the same as the Father’s. He said that He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father.

Jesus, the Word, was in the beginning with God. Jesus Christ was the Creator of All things.

Jesus taught that He was Jehovah, the Lord God of Israel. Later, the Resurrected Lord declared to those on the American Continents that He is Jesus Christ, The God of Israel, The God of the whole earth.

Jesus taught that He has come that we might have life. He said that He is the Life and the Light of the world. Jesus said that He gives unto us eternal life. Jesus declared that He is the Way, the Truth and the Light.

Always, Jesus honored the Father and followed Him.

Jesus taught that no man cometh unto the Father but by Him. Jesus taught that only those who do the will of His Father in Heaven would be saved in eternal life.

Jesus gave the Sealing Keys and the Priesthood to His Apostles.

Jesus sent us the Holy Ghost to guide us.

Jesus gave us His doctrine.

In the Sermon of the Bread of Life, Jesus taught us to focus on Him, the Living Bread, the source of eternal nourishment.

We are to seek first the things of God and follow Christ.

Through the Resurrection and Atonement, we learn that the Son of Man came to minister and to give His Life as a ransom for us. He was slain for the sins of the world; He is our Savior, the God of Israel to the whole earth. He was lifted up on the cross to draw all men to Him. The Atonement gives us the opportunity to overcome the death from sin, and eternal life if we keep our sacred covenants.

We are followers of Jesus Christ. Our citizenship is in His Church and in His Gospel and we should not use a visa to visit Babylon. We should honor His Name.

This is the most important knowledge of earth: to know that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God; He is our Creator; He is the Light of the World; He is our Savior.

Real Teaching

Real life requires real learning which depends upon real teaching. We are ALL teacher and must realize that the Holy Ghost is the REAL teacher. We must teach BY the Spirit so that the Spirit can teach unrestrained.

We may need to change our way and our manner to align our teaching with the workings of the Holy Ghost. The Spirit will strengthen us.

1. The Holy Ghost teaches us in a very personal way about what we must know and do. The Spirit teaches truth line upon line and precept upon precept. We should focus on those things that people need to know and do. We can pause to listen.

2. The Holy Ghost teaches by inviting, prompting, encouraging, leading and motivating us to act.. The Holy Ghost invites us to learn and to feel for ourselves. We help others to use their agency to learn and act for themselves.

Teachers help learners understand and live Gospel doctrines. We desperately need real learning and teaching! This will happen only when we Align our teaching after the manner of the Holy Ghost.

A Missionary’s Love

We can inherit a love for people from our ancestors (parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts, brothers and sisters, and cousins) who have served missions. Sometime, we want to clothe ourselves with their coat so that we can experience the great love and testimony that they shared with those they loved.

Those who were helped to convert have not forgotten those who brought them the Gospel. They have special feelings for their missionaries with a deep abiding love. They gain assurance from the Holy Spirit that God loves them. They come to know that missionary love is like God’s love.

Missionaries impart the Love of God.

It is necessary to bring these three things on your mission:

1. Desire to preach the Gospel. The Lord wants you to seek out His sheep. There are those who need to be rescued.

2. Develop your testimony. You represent the Lord.

3. Love others. You are a disciple of Christ.

Deceptive Currents

We are beloved spirit sons and daughters of a Loving Heavenly Father. We knew that to come to earth we would experience sorrow and suffering.

And we knew that we could choose to use our agency to experience the blessings of the atoning sacrifice of our Savior to repent and find forgiveness.

We cannot avoid consequences. In reality, we have only two choices:

1. Choose to follow the Savior of the World and receive eternal life with our Heavenly Father. There is only safety in living His Gospel. We can choose to live Gospel-centered lives and find joy. It is never too hard or too late to make correct choices.

2. Choose to follow the World and find that we will have squandered our eternal happiness.

We can choose to follow the counsel of the living prophet and choose to listen to the promptings of the Holy Ghost daily. Each of us can be perfected and live with Jesus Christ and receive a fullness of joy.

Prayer is the Provider of Spiritual Strength

Be grateful for the miracle of prayers. The God of Mercy hears our prayers. The things that are important to us become important to Him because He loves. We must ask for His help.

Jesus gave us the example of Prayer.

We pray to Our Father in Heaven and avoid repetition. We freely acknowledge our desire to do His will. Prayer is not change the will of God but to secure for us His blessings.

We must commit to do our part. It is contrary to the economy of Heaven for the Lord to do for us what we can do for ourselves.

We may put on the protective process of the armor of God by asking to be delivered from evil.

Doing things the Lord’s way will make us happier than trying to do it our own way.

We must say AND live our prayers. Like medicine: Prayer only works when used as directed.

It takes faith to remember that the Lord will bless us in His time and in His way.

Prayer is the provider of Spiritual Strength. Miracles are wrought through prayer.

Eternal Perspectives

We Have a Bright Future Planned for us by Our Loving Heavenly Father.

We can gain an eternal perspective to help us through our trials and troubles:

1. We have Our Father in Heaven who knows us and understands us perfectly;

2. We have the atoning sacrifice of His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ;

3. We have Our Father’s Plan of Happiness for our eternal life with a glorious reunion with those we love.

An essential element of prospering is having the Spirit in our life.

Adverse results in this life are not evidence of a lack of faith. Trials refine us and give us experience for our good. Our days are known.

However, many trials could be avoided by obedience to God’s laws.

The Savior’s atonement provides lifeboats for everyone!

Avoid dwelling on the lost opportunities in this life. The Savior can hear the songs we cannot sing.

Inspiring Conference

We are all hear because we love the Lord and want to serve Him.

The Lord is mindful of the challenges we face today. He loves us.

The restored Gospel of Jesus Christ provides answers and gives us purpose and meaning in our lives.

May we ever be found doing the work of the Lord. May we nourish our testimonies that they might be a protection for us against the adversary.

Remember us, (the General Authorities), in your prayers.

This morning’s session began with a stirring and heart-felt rendition of “Consider the Lillie’s of the Field” as a personal message to each of us as Heavenly Father’s children that He is mindful of us and is watching over us. Such a beautiful message from heaven that we all needed this morning!!!

Sacred Charge with Encouragement

In the Book of Mormon, Alma teaches us that we are to be willing to mourn, to comfort and to stand as a witness of God in all things.

1. We are to become charitable: Service projects are a hard and a happy work! Learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are in the service of your God. CHARITY will become part of our very nature and will be well with us.

2. We covenant to be witnesses of God: We are to be bold witnesses of Jesus Christ even in the face of peril. The effect of the Book of Mormon on our character to be a witness is certain. The doctrines will enlighten and enbolden you as you feast upon the words. A mature understanding and testimony will come from the reading, studying, and pondering of the Book of Mormon.

3. We must endure: Fully converted Latter-day Saints continue to press on after they have served and given their all. They become fixed disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and follow the Savior to the end.

Moroni stands as an example of living a life of Charity, of being a witness of the Savior, and being fully converted to God.

Drink deeply from the pages of the Book of Mormon. It is the only way safely to the home of God.

Thy Will Be Done

The Savior prepared for His Atoning Sacrifice in the pre-mortal world in using His agency choosing the Plan of Father. He continues to exercise His agency in accepting and forgiving us. He exercised His agency in forgiving all of those contributing to His suffering.

We wait upon the Lord. Tests and Trials are given to all of us to see if we will exercise our agency to follow His Son. No matter how difficult, all of these things are given for our good. We still cry out in sorrow with weeping for the night, but joy comes in the dawn as we choose to say, “Thy Will Be Done”

We wait upon the Lord.

Wait: Hope and Trust in the Lord with faith, meekness, and humility. Planting the seed of faith with diligence. Following the promptings of the Spirit. Learning to continue in keeping the commandments, being immovable. Bearing powerful testimony of the Savior as did Job. Understanding often comes line upon line, precept upon precept, because that is all that we can bear. Let us not give-up on the Lord. His promises are eternal.

Many, like Mary and Martha, and the Good Samaritan, wait upon the Lord, in giving daily service. “In as much as ye have done it unto the least of these, ye have done in unto Me.”

Everyone of us if more beloved to the Lord than we can possibly understand or wonder. In the submission of the Savior to the Father in the Garden of Gethsemane, the Savior chose to suffer our temptations and suffering of every kind. He waited upon His Father and said, “Thy Will Be Done”.

His angels are here and ‘round about us. May we press forward and wait upon Him.

No Middle Ground With The Book of Mormon

There is NO middle ground in the Book of Mormon. It claims to be the word of God: every word, every sentence, every page. It is either of God or of the devil. No other option.

Feast upon the words of Christ, for the words of Christ will tell you all things which ye must do.

Come unto Christ and be perfected in Him.

Scriptures from the Book of Mormon teach us to worship and love the Savior. The devil could not have written it. It MUST be from God.

One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. The Bible is one witness of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is Another witness of the Lord, Jesus Christ. ONLY ONE LINE can be drawn between the Bible and the Book of Mormon, therefore, there is indeed, One Lord, One Faith and One Baptism.

The Book of Mormon teaches the CORRECT mode of Baptism.

The Book of Mormon teaches the CORRECT doctrines and of continual revelation.

The Book of Mormon teaches of the Atonement of the Savior. The Book of Mormon will teach and testify to you that you should have Hope through the atoning sacrifice of the Savior.

To Father’s: Raising a Happy Daughter

The most important thing you can do is to love your wife, her mother! You will demonstrate tenderness, loyalty, respect and compassion through love and honoring your wife. This will teach your daughter to prepare for the Temple, as you take her with you for Baptisms.

Today’s world minimizes the role of fatherhood. Fathers are the guardians of the home and of their families. A priesthood holder is virtuous. You must practice virtue and holiness unceasingly in order to wax strong in confidence before the Lord. Be a guardian of virtue.

Be an active part in your daughter’s life. She will inwardly know that you care enough to be her guardian. Give her priesthood blessings. Be your daughter’s hero. Testimony has a strong influence upon daughters.

Abish, in the Book of Mormon, shared her testimony because she had been taught by her father. Those who were touched by her testimony later became the people who raised-up 2000 stripling warriors!

Rise up, all men of God, and the devil will never have hold over the hearts of your children.

Importance of a Name

The Lord Jesus Christ, himself, named the Church. King Benjamin taught us to take upon us the name of Christ and remember that it should never blotted out, except through transgression.

We take upon us the name of Christ in the waters of Baptism. We are so BLESSED to take upon us the name of God’s Only Beloved. It is the ONLY name under heaven through which we can be saved.

Uphold and teach the world that the Church is known as the 9 word: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The: declares the unique position of the Church to the world

Church of Jesus Christ: declares that it IS HIS Church!

Latter-day: states that the same Church that He established has been restored now, in the Latter-days.

Saints: refers to those who have covenanted to be holy in following the Lord Jesus Christ

Mormon is acceptable in referring to the members, but not for the institution. We should use the full and correct name of the Church. It is increasingly important in our responsibility to the world to use the full and correct name.

There is only one Church that bears the name of Jesus Christ, the Lord.

Pertinent Words

Today’s technology is more than just amazing. Behaviors that are immoral are now becoming accepted and viewed everywhere. We’ve been spending our moral capital like we’ve been spending our financial capital with the message that morality is passe.

This unfortunately describes much of the world around us. Indeed, we have in our lives the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that morality is NOT passe, and the laws of God have not changes. The Ten Commandments are not suggestions; they are commandments, just as binding and valid as when the Lord gave them.

Our Code of Conduct is definitive. It is not negotiable. We can rely on the Code of Conduct; it is an anchor to hold safe in unchartered waters. The Spirit of Comfort can come to us when keep the commandments. Is essential that we reject anything that does not conform to our standards. We can feel Peace if we have the Gospel at our core and the love of the Savior in our hearts.

It is necessary that we communicate with our Heavenly Father in prayer. We can gain a testimony of prayer. Work towards a goal of having a prayerful relationship with our Father in Heaven to receive His inspiration and guidance.

Learn to recognize His inspiration and follow it! Communication to Him is necessary for us to weather the storms of life.

As we do so, we feel His Spirit in our lives, and be able to stand in Holy Places and be not moved. To those who trust in Him, the Lord promises to stand by us, strengthen us and to uphold us with the right hand of his righteousness.

This morning’s Conference was sooooo spiritual that I’m feeling physically exhausted at the moment. Even so, I never want to be like the 70 elders with Moses who told the Lord, “It is enough!” With that, I’m prayerful to get my second wind and continue with my personal notes on the words that write themselves to my heart:

Spiritual Priorities – Inspiring Sequences

Joseph Smith saw the Eternal Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. provided a correct understanding of the Godhead.They spoke to him. Later, the Angel Moroni, appeared to Joseph, to instruct Joseph about the Book of Mormon and the words of Malachi, a prophecy about the ushering in of the Gospel.

The prophet Elijah held the Sealing powers until the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ. This sacred Sealing power is essential for Ordinances to valid. Elijah conferred those same keys upon Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, and retold Joseph the words of the prophecy of Malachi that Moroni had taught Joseph.

It was necessary for Elijah to come in 1836 to prepare the world and usher in the second coming of the Savior. The Keys are to be delivered. The Spirit of Elijah is to come. And the Saints will become Saviors on Mount Zion, by building up their temples and performing their Ordinances to make a chain, welding the posterity of Adam.

We have the covenant responsibility to seek out our ancestors and perform their Ordinances for them. We are the Lord’s agents in the work or Exaltation and Salvation. This is our Duty and our great Blessing.

Family History work is not to be performed only by older people! We are sons and daughters of God. Children of the Covenant. We need to assist in the work to save the children of God.

The skills of texting and tweeting have been given to prepare us to use technology to seek out our ancestors and turn our hearts to the fathers. Our loving gratitude for our ancestors will increase and we will be protected against the adversary as we participate in this Holy Work and experience the Spirit of Elijah.

We can act and receive additional knowledge from the Holy Ghost and become highly skilled in doing Family History Work. As we devote more time to Family History and Temple Work, our lives will be blessed and we will better understand the atoning sacrifice of our Savior.

Family History is NOT simply an interesting program of the Church but a VITAL part of the Lord’s Work. We have a key role to play in this great endeavor!

The FAMILY

Crowning priviledge of husband and wife is to provide a body for Heavenly Father’s children. The Family is ordained of God. The Family is central in the organization of heaven.

We express deep gratitude for our wives in their willingness to have children. The decisions of when and how many should be made with great prayer and great faith. The bearing of children is a righteous subject and can be painful for women who are unable to have children. It can also be heart-breaking even when our greatest desire is to do as the Lord has commanded. All promised blessings will be given in the eternities as we keep our covenants with God. We should not be judgmental with one another.

Many voices today marginalize and limit the number of children that we should have. However, motherhood is not a hobby and we honor mothers with children.

It is a sacred responsibility to multiply and replenish the earth. WHERE IS OUR FAITH!

Across the world is economic instability. There is no shame in scrimping, saving, and sacrificing. WHERE IS OUR FAITH!

Adam and Eve acted in Faith. Lehi and Sariah acted in Faith – even in the wilderness of their afflictions. Baby Moses was saved from Pharoah as parents acted in Faith. Mary and Joseph acted in Faith.

Becoming the Master Manager of Our Time

Following the example of Pres. Monsom, we have sufficient time to serve others and give of our time. Time is never for sale. Wisely use, time’s value is immeasurable. “Time flies on wings of lightening and we cannot call it back!”

We will be required to give a strict account of our choices and the use of our time.

We are well taught about priorities by the Master Teacher: Seek ye first to build up the Kingdom of God. Alma has taught us that this is a probationary state, a time to prepare to meet our God.

In family relationships, LOVE is spelled T I M E.

The poor use of time is a cousin to idleness. We must be sure that to be busy is to be productive. There is much that is good with our access to communication, but we cannot allow the phone and computer to drown out sincere prayer to our loving Father in Heaven.

We are ‘fellow citizens with the Saint’ and are happy when we are tuned into the Lord instead of mindless twits. To have the Peace that the Savior speaks of, we must devote our time to the things of God, which matter most: read and ponder the scriptures, prayer, and seeking to serve where prompted.

Saints who respond to the Savior’s message will not be lead astray be destructing pursuits and distractions. We need to identify the uses of our time that keep us focussed on the Lord, Family, Work, Family and wholesome recreational activities – all of which are virtuous and lovely and of good report.

It’s Better to Look Up!

Believe in God. Believe that He is. Believe that He has all wisdom and power in heaven and earth.

The prophet redirect our focus and lead us to God. Pres. Monson is a Prophet, Seer and Revelator. He is filled with great Faith and Optimism. He is filled with Can Do and Will DO.

We will be strengthened and feel Peace as we have the Faith to LOOK Up and follow the Promptings to act on your challenge. The Israelites did not look to the serpent because they did not believe it would heal them.

As we look up, we receive strength from Our Savior’s Atonement to be able to endure all things. Whatever burden, trial, or hold-up we are carrying should be released so that we can spiritually look up. It is not a one time experience. We learn through the Sacrament prayer that it is to ALWAYS have His Spirit to be with us.

The Lord leads us today through Prophets, Apostles and Priesthood Leaders, through conference messages, and the Holy Ghost. We must look up and step up and we do, we will cheer up! The lord will heal our would, dry our tears and lead us. The Lord is My Light. By day and by night, He leads me along.

Savior, Redeemer of My Soul

SAVIOR: to save and rescue

REDEEMER: to redeem and buy back; to deliver the Children of Israel. The theme of Jehovah redeems the children of men from the Fall. In Christ, we have redemption through His blood from His Atoning Sacrifice. The debt is paid and all power is given into the Son of God with His victory over spiritual and physical death.

We all desperately need Loving Redemption to satisfy the laws of Justice and Mercy.

There is a Redeemer, a Mediator to appease the demands of Justice and offer Mercy.

Many of us have lives that are a story of Redemption. We can carry the call to rescue the less-active. We can never repay the Savior of what He paid on our behalf.

Savior, Redeemer of My Soul

Savior, Redeemer of my soul,
Whose mighty hand hath made me whole,
Whose wondrous pow’r hath raised me up
And filled with sweet my bitter cup!
What tongue my gratitude can tell,
O gracious God of Israel.

Then let my lips proclaim it still,

The Divine Gift of Repentance

When Prophets come crying REPENTANCE, some want to throw cold water on the party. But, only through REPENTANCE can we receive grace through the Atoning Sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

REPENTANCE is the necessary condition and His grace is the source of His Peace and Power.

Sanctification through the grace of our Lord and Savior is just and true.

1. Invitation to repent is a message of Love to enjoy the words of eternal life. If we do not demand repentance of ourselves or invite other to change, then we are not concerned with our welfare or the welfare of others.

2. Repentance means striving to change. It would mock the Savior to thing that He would change us into angelic beings. We should try to change and seek His mercy. Real change may require repeated attempts. Divine forgiveness flows fully to such a soul.

3. Repentance means to abandon sin and commit to obedience. Turn to the Lord with all our might, mind and strength with a covenant of obedience to Him – as with our Baptismal Covenant. The Savior humbled Himself in obedience before the Father – to follow and do His will.

4. Repentance requires a seriousness of purpose and a willingness to confess. It is a deep, sometimes agonizing regret and sorrow. It is this deep distress that leads us to cry out to Jesus, the Son of God. With Faith in the merciful Redeemer, and a resolve to repair turns into a covenant with God which will lead to forgiveness. The Savior revealed that He suffered that we might not, if we would repent.

5. Whatever the cost of Repentance, it is swallowed up in the joy of Forgiveness. And the Lord remembers our sins no more.

BE BOLD and
DECLARE OUR FAITH in the

Lord Jesus Christ

Excitement of a new Temple provides for an Open House. Nearly everyone who visits marvels at its beauty and feel something unique and special. But, what impresses visitor most is the example and lives of the members that the visitors meet at the Open House.

At all times of the day, the Church and it’s teachings are being discussed on line across the Internet. Changes in the way we communicate has made The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints more visible. The problem of misinformation has been a problem since the time of Joseph Smith. There will always be those who distort, but the MAJORITY are fair-minded and curious and WANT correct information.

We can SHARE who we are to advance the understanding of the Church and our friends and neighbors will come to understand us and the Church better.

1. We must be BOLD in our declaration of Jesus Christ! The Old Testament sets the stage for His Mortal Ministry. The New Testament is the stage of His Mortal Ministry. The Book of Mormon witnesses of His Mortal Ministry. We declare the Savior to be the Center of our Faith!

2. Be Righteous examples to others. Our lives should be examples of good works and virtue in following the Savior. The Light of Christ will shine in our lives and actions.

3. Speak up about the Church. Focus the conversation in answering their questions. Remember, it is better to ask than to tell. Simply remember the words of John: There is no fear in LOVE. We are promised that we will overcome our fears. www.mormon.org has on-line profiles and testimonies of love of the Lord. We should be honest and open in what we say and avoid being defensive. Be Holy in all matter of conversation. Use the Internet to share our religious beliefs! When directed by the Spirit, do NOT hesitate to add you voice to those conversations. It is a PEARL of Great Price.

We need to communicate the message honestly of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. Open Houses before a Temple Dedication help others to know about the Lord’s Plan of Happiness.

The Spirit of Love and Courage will be our constant companion if we share the Gospel and our beliefs with others.

NEWS FROM THE CHOIR – SEPT 30, 2011

“For centuries, choirs have sung praises to God in their church meetings. Large and small, these gatherings have benefitted from the reverence and honor for the Almighty expressed in music. General conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is no different. Ask any member of the Choir to describe a favorite experience and the answer comes back – singing at general conference. They point to the spirit, the hymns, the Saints gathered around the world, the hall, the Church leadership, and the presence of angels.”

Here’s my recap from the Saturday morning session where I felt ‘the spirit, the beauty of the hymns, the unity of the Saints gathered around the world, the magnificence of the hall, the power of the Priesthood from the Church leadership, and the presence of angels’:

The Scriptures – Solutions for Heavenly Father’s Children

Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds. They are the Key to open the channel with our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ. Great power can come from memorizing a scripture and can be a source of inspiration for needed change. The scriptures can form a foundation of support and provide a resource of willing friends.

Pondering a scripture can be the key to unlocking revelation. Scriptures can take on new meanings and become insightful.

Precious jewels of truth are spread throughout the Old Testament (and all of the Standard Works.) The New Testament is also a source of diamond truth. Scripture from the Doctrine and Covenants enriches life greatly. And The Book of Mormon teaches doctrine with unique clarity and power.

THE GIFT of the HOLY GHOST

We need the divine help that come from the Holy Spirit. The account of Lehi in the Book of Mormon demonstrates how Nephi received personal revelation to guide him. Whereas his brethren didn’t know how to receive personal revelation. Nephi taught his brethren that we need to desire, not harden our hearts, ask in faith – truly believing that we will receive an answer, and be diligent in keeping the commandments. If we are diligent in keeping the commandments and ask in faith, the Lord will answer our prayers in His own way and in His Own time.

The Doctrine and Covenants teaches us several ways we can receive revelation: through Peace to our mind and heart, by feeling a burning in the bosom, receiving enlightenment to our mind, and the filling of our soul with joy. Inspiration can come from a scripture, a conference talk and even a Primary song! The Holy Ghost satisfies and fills our souls.

We need to seek the light of personal inspiration to help us get through these times of trial and hardship. During trial, we may find that it is our Testimony that sustains and keeps us.

Remarkable Church Growth

In the Old Testament, Daniel asked God to reveal the dream of the King: Gospel will roll forward across the earth like a stone rolling down the mountain. This Church will fill North and South America and the whole earth. The Kingdom of God will spread across the earth and be known the world over.

The Church will progress across international borders and penetrate Hearts of people everywhere. Prophecies are now being fulfilled and happening before our eyes. The sun never sets on the work of the Lord. We have scarcely scratched the surface.

The fulfillment of a Book of Mormon prophecy is about to come to close: The Marvelous Work and Wonder that is progressing everywhere. The Church has miraculous growth! In the Book of Mormon, we learn that the Knowledge of the Savior shall spread to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. It is the work of Almighty God and His Son, The Prince of Peace. The TIME has come when the knowledge of the Savior IS spread to every nation, kindred, tongue and people!

TEMPLES

Conference marks 48 years since being called as an Apostle. Time moves too quickly. The Dedication and Re-Dedication of Temples have provided an abundance of the Spirit. The building of our Temples goes uninterrupted! Temples are blessing to the lives of all Latter-Day Saints.

Announcement of Temples:

2nd Temple in Provo, Utah! The Provo Tabernacle will be converted into a Temple!!

Also, Baranquilla, Columbia; Durban, South Africa; Kinshasa,Congo; and Star Valley, Wyoming where there is good fishing! And the building is progressing for the Temple in Paris, France.

Church now has a Temple Assistance fund to help those who struggle with means to attend the Temple.

SERVICE

Our Savior is the perfect example of service. As we love our Savior and give service, we become more like Him and our Heavenly Father.

Each day we have the opportunity to give help and service.

Do it and don’t delay.

Follow our Prophet and his example: “To The Rescue”. There is great safety in following our Prophet.

Our Savior never loses sight of the ‘one’. The Lord needs us to help those not enjoy activity and fellowship.

War in Heaven – Lucifer Wages War on the Youth

Despite the opposition, we need not fail nor fear. The Gospel plan is the Great Plan of Happiness with the Family, the Center of that Family. All were created in the image of God. We have a Divine Nature. Lucifer was denied a mortal body. We have power to create bodies and have power OVER the adversary and his angels.

We have Patriarchs have the Spirit of prophecy and Spirit of revelation to give us our personal Patriarchal blessing. Answers can be found in our Patriarchal blessing.

In the Book of Mormon we learn that Angels speak by the Holy Ghost and speak the words of Christ. The voice of the Spirit comes as a feeling rather than a voice that is heard. Spiritual communication is best described as a ‘feeling’. The spiritual voice comes into your mind and you feel it in your heart.

You won’t make a major mistake without FIRST being warned by the Holy Ghost. We hold a key to unlock the prison door: we can be washed clean through the atonement and sacrifice of Jesus, Our Savior. Assert our agency to listen to the voice of the Spirit. Our youth are being raised in enemy territory, but we have the Holy Ghost to guide us, to help us, and to lead us through the battle and Lucifer will lose. We have 15 men sustained as Apostles. We trust the Lord to guide the way to do His will. We must be trustworthy and we will be watched over and protected, and will know by the Holy Ghost which way to go.

We Matter To The Lord

We are blessed to have a True and Living Prophet on the earth today. Pres. Monson has showed us how the Church is pressing forward, by his announcing the new Temples to be built. Another prophet, Moses, learned about the universe through his great visions and learned of the greatness and infinite glory of God and His creations. Enoch also learned of the vastness of God’s creations. King Benjamin also taught us of the greatness of God and yet, the worth of souls is, also, great.

All of God’s creations were created for us, God’s sons and daughters. We are everything to God. We may appear to be nothing as mortal man, but we have the divine inheritance within our breast. Disciples of Jesus Christ know that our space in time is only a mere moment.

Those who will inherit the Kingdom of God are those who “will becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father”, and know that “when we are in the service of our fellow beings, we are in the service of our God”. Satan tells us that we are forgotten by God. But, we know that God knows our hearts. The Lord knows where we are, no matter how humble our circumstances. He is near for those who incline their hearts towards Him. The Lord uses our skills very differently than the world sees us.

It may be true that man is nothing in compared to the greatness of the universe; but remember these four truths:

God loves the humble and meek.

The Lord entrusts the fullness of His gospel to be proclaimed the weak and simple.

No matter where we live, how humble, how ordinary, we are not invisible to our Heavenly Father. He Knows our Heart.

Now is not what forever will be. We have the faithful promise of God that will not forget nor forsake. Hold on. Believe in Him. Be Faithful in keeping the commandments. Then we will hear the promise that we can’t comprehend the things that God has prepared for us.

Almost A Repeat!

As I was moving the decorator pillows on the bed, my eye caught a glimpse of gold. Curious, I lifted the pillow and there was a HUGE wasp!

Quickly, I covered the wasp with the pillow and yelled for Errol who came to my rescue and quickly disposed of the intruder who was arching it’s back and preparing to sting.

I shudder to think about the consequences had I not noticed that fleck of gold. It would have been hiding in the very place where I would have laid my head later to sleep.

“Amidst the storms of life, danger lurks; and men, like boats, find themselves stranded and facing destruction. Who will man the lifeboats, leaving behind the comforts of home and family, and go to the rescue?
[To rescue, we must] acquire the language of the Spirit. It is not learned from textbooks written by men of letters, nor is it acquired through reading and memorization. The language of the Spirit comes to him who seeks with all his heart to know God and keep His divine commandments. Proficiency in this “language” permits one to breach barriers, overcome obstacles, and touch the human heart.
In a day of danger or a time of trial, such knowledge, such hope, such understanding bring comfort to a troubled soul and a grieving heart. Shadows of despair are dispelled by rays of hope; sorrow yields to joy; and the feeling of being lost in the crowd of life vanishes with the certain knowledge that our Heavenly Father is mindful of each of us.
I pray that all of us may sense our responsibilities and, as one, follow our Leader—even the Lord Jesus Christ, and His prophet —to the rescue.”

Water Always Makes Things Better

“Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst” (John 4:14).

Michael traded a few months of his portion for the family plan on our cell phone bill by making us this amazing water wheel.

There is something soooooo incredibly comforting in listening to the sound of water!
Pure, life-sustaining water from a babbling creek makes us want to drink deeply from the Living Water.

Water projects offer a significant improvement in the quality of life.
“In communities with numerous and wide-ranging problems, people always say that clean water is what they would like most.”

The Savior spent His earthly ministry in a time and place where people relied on wells for water. As He taught the woman at the well by saying that “whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst” (John 4:14), He was also teaching us that His gospel quenches—permanently—our most basic needs.

I know that the well of living water the Savior offers us never runs dry and is pure and life sustaining. When we come to Him with an empty cup, He will fill it, often beyond our capacity to receive. He is truly living water, a manifestation of the love of God.

Elder Richard G. Scott, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: Blessings of Marriage – Eternal Marriage

Be willing to give and share and think of your spouse. Pure love is a potent power for good. It is so rewarding to be married! Some times you are very happy. There are also times of testing, times of trial but the Lord guides you through those times. One of the reasons we are counseled to marry early in life is so that we can avoid the detrimental character traits that we might develop. Beyond the veil, we will recognize each other and even be more deeply in love.

God wants us to experience eternal JOY. The final judgment will be on what we have become. The Gospel is to help us become what God wants us to become. To meet God’s high expectations, we need to practice and adopt: to willingly accept and seek correction. Divine chastisement is to persuade us to repent, to refine and sanctify us, and to redirect our course.

Repentance leading to righteousness. Enduring chastening can refine us to be prepared for greater experiences, even the glory of Zion. Divine chastening is to prune, mold and shape us. We become purified.

If we desire to measure up and sincerely strive, then needed correction will come. It may come in prayers or as we study the scriptures. Correction can come through others, especially those who have been called to the ministry to perfect the Saints. We can help one another. Correction can come from our spouse – hopefully as a gentle rebuke. Reproof should be timely as moved upon the by the Holy Ghost. Much of our chastening should come from within and we should be self-correcting, resolving to do better. We can become one with God and Christ.

Elder Carl B. Pratt, First Quorum of the Seventy: TITHING

The Lord remembers His promises to those who faithfully our Tithing. Tithing is not related to the amount of cash income. We are also indebted to the Lord for our Blessings. Let us not be accused of robbing God. Let us be honest and have integrity in paying our debts to the Lord. The Lord expects us to pay not from our abundance but from the firstlings/first fruits. Tithing is a matter of FAITH in the Lord. Pay it first and pay it honestly. We should not conclude that the Lord will bless us with money. The Lord will fulfill His promises but does not promise wealth. He blesses us with wisdom to manage our resources and blesses us spiritually with a spiritual sensitivity. The payment of Tithing helps to develop a humble and submissive heart, a charitable heart with the Pure Love of Christ. Regular Tithe payers will receive the Lord’s richest blessings and have the windows of heaven opened unto them.

To be and to do. To become as the Savior.

To be is never done and is not an event like a to do list. Christ-like to be’s can not be seen. Be begets Do and will influence behavior. Christ-like attributes need to be taught to our children and requires patience and teaching on our part, through long-suffering and kindness and other Christ-like virtues. Preaching the Word had a greater impact on the people to do the right things. Never let failure to progress to an action and then to a label. Heavenly Father’s plan is help us overcome mistakes and become more like the Savior. We can help a child to strengthen their self-worth through complements to help them be and then do what we want them to do. Look for and discuss Christ-like attributes from the scriptures. Be the kind of parent that our Heavenly Father is to us so that His image may be engraven in our countenance and His attributes will be written in our behavior.

Elder Benjamin De Hoyos, First Quorum of the Seventy: Members of the Church Are Christians and Saints

Christians and Saints. The Apostle Paul called them Fellow Citizens in the household of God. Humble members of the Church that engage in family history work and attend the Temple become Saints and will sit at the Lord’s table. Even those who accept and serve missions; they will become Saints. We pray for the Saints, that they move forward with patience in their trials and suffering. We will know that the Lord has sustained us through our trials.

The Savior does not forget nor abandon us. The Savior’s Atonement is available to each of through repentance of our sins. Salvation could not be brought about without an Atonement. The Atoning Sacrifice had to carried about by an Infinite and Eternal Being, even Jesus Christ. Jesus took upon Himself our sins, sufferings and infirmities. There are times when each of need relief from guilt. The Savior removes our guilt through the Atonement when we repent. The Savior offers healing to those of us who are suffering from sin. Jesus Christ is the Great Healer of our Souls. The Savior offers redemption to all. Repent and forsake your sins. Forgive. Confess to the Lord’s messenger of mercy, your Bishop. The Savior can make us clean through the power of His Atonement.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: The Miracle of General Conference

This General Conference is the continuation of an early declaration to the world: “Lo, Zion’s standard is unfurled!” Reflect on the unique phenomenon on that General Conference is: We testify to every kindred, nation, tongue, and people that what we have heard is the voice of the Lord and the will of the Lord to the world. Every man and woman that we have heard has tried to be true to the prompting the Holy Ghost to guide thoughts, words and expression. As Brigham Young testified that Angels were standing in the conference, So do I see Angels standing in it! There is no coordination but from the direction from heaven. These Conference messages proclaim liberty to the captives and of the riches of Jesus Christ. The Savior gave wonderful gentle blessings in the most famous Sermon on the Mount; blessings that we all want to claim. And then He taught how straight the way is to be perfect like our Heavenly Father. In matters of discipleship, the Church is not a fast food outlet: we can not have it our way. Salvation can only come His Way. If we are doing the best we can, then give ourselves high marks and address another topic where we may be lacking. If we listen by the Spirit, we will hear a personal prophetic epistle sent just to us. God will have His Voice heard. The mortal angels who have come to THIS pulpit have sounded the voice of warning with a voice of love. Pres. Monson is the Senior Apostle and the Prophet for the world. Nothing get him down. He has remarkable Faith and unusual stamina. We love him! He is one of the angelic messengers called before the world was to wave the Ensign of the Gospel!

We have felt the Spirit of the Lord in rich abundance! We look forward to working in the cause of the Master. May we examples of honesty and integrity in all that we do to further the work of the Lord. May the blessings of heaven be upon us. I am grateful to our Savior, for His Atoning Sacrifice. He gave us life and taught us how to live and how to die. He secured our Salvation. He lives!

We testify that the HEAVENS ARE OPENED AGAIN and that GOD SPEAKS TO HIS PROPHETS AND APOSTLES IN OUR DAY!

But, some spend their days ‘waiting on the road to Damascus’ for a great manifestation. Others want to be Disciples but are waiting for something more to have Jesus revealed and deny themselves of the saving blessings.

If we move forward with Faith and do not wait, we will come to know through small steps – puzzle pieces that line upon line will fit together. If we ignore or block out the promptings of the Spirit we will no longer be able to receive them.

Let us hearken to the promptings of the Spirit! Let us strive to be among those whom the Lord can rely on to hear the whisperings and respond.

Sometimes we do not recognize the promptings from the Lord because we haven’t studied and asked. Sometimes the answer from the Lord comes from the scriptures or through the words of the Prophets. (Or even through another.) Often the answer doesn’t come while on our knees but while on our feet, serving others. By becoming the answer to someone’s prayer, we often find the answer to our own. The Lord expects the members of the Church to open their mouths with the sounds of rejoicing! But some would rather be pulling a handcart across the prairie than to speak to friends and neighbors of the blessings of the gospel.

Sharing the good news of the Gospel is easier and far reaching with today’s technology! Use our hands to block and text message the Gospel to the world. Sometimes a single phrase of testimony can affect someone across the world with far reaching effects.

Preach the Gospel at all times and if necessary, use words.

Blessed are they who have not seen and yet they believe. Let those who seek Him and honor Him by following Him and His Way. Let us move forward in Faith, Hope and Charity!

¡Testificamos que el CIELO ES ABIERTO OTRA VEZ y que DIOS HABLA CON SUS PROFETAS Y apóstoles EN NUESTRO DIA!

Por llega a ser la respuesta a alguien oración, nosotros a menudo encontramos la respuesta a nuestro propio. ¡El Señor espera que los miembros de la Iglesia abra las bocas con los sonidos de alegría! Pero algún estaría tirando más bien una carretilla a través de la pradera que hablar con amigos y vecinos de las bendiciones del evangelio.

Elder Paul V. Johnson, First Quorum of the Seventy: Great Trials Precede Great Blessings

Earth life includes tests, trials and tribulations. Affliction is part of our mortal experience to provide a trial of our Faith – to see if we will do all the the Lord has commanded. Trials are the process to putting on the Divine Nature. No trial is wasted and when we endured it patiently, it builds up our character, purifies our hearts, expands our souls and makes us more tender and charitable. The furnace of affliction helps purify even the very best of Saints by burning away the dross in their lives and leaving behind pure gold. Being good is NOT enough. We want to become like the Savior. The pattern in the scriptures and in life shows that many times the darkest and most dangerous tests immediately precede remarkable events and tremendous growth. After much tribulation comes the blessings. (ie. Children of Israel trapped at the Red Sea before it was parted; Nephi suffered multiple failures before securing the Brass Plates; Joseph Smith was overcome almost to utter destruction when he called upon God and was visited by the Father and the Son; Investigators suffer tribulation before Baptism; Mothers know great pains in labor precede the miracle of birth.) Time after time we see marvelous blessings come on the heels of great trials. Many times a particular challenge helps prepare us for something important. The Apostle Paul speaks of our light affliction that brings us great glory. We don’t seek our trials; they are a part of our mortal life to help us put on the Divine Nature. Our Savior experienced the most incredible trial in Gethsemane and Golgotha and was prerequisite to the empty tomb on that Easter Morning. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. We will not be left alone. Guardian angels will attend. On a occasion, heavenly angels may visit to comfort us. No trial shall separate us from the Love of Christ.

Bishop H. David Burton, Presiding Bishop: The Church Cares About Our Temporal Salvation

The Church of Christ should be and is interested in the Temporal Salvation of man. 1936 = The Welfare Program of the Church, instituted by revelation to relieve human suffering. A system to reach out to people no matter the cost that would not let the people go hungry, go without clothing or be without shelter. Unlike other programs, the divine Welfare Programs helps people to help themselves and is a system of provident living where people assume the responsibility for their own temporal welfare to become self-reliant. We give to the poor and administer relief so that we may receive a remission of our sins and walk guiltless before God. We yearn for a peaceful world but should we fail in the great commandment to succor the weak, lift up the hands that hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees, or in turning our hearts toward those who suffer and mourn, we will be under condemnation in not pleasing the Lord! Through the Welfare Program, the hearts of church members are being positively influenced in relieving the yoke of suffering throughout the world.

Be Kind to the poor. Feed the Hungry. Clothe the Naked. Minister to the sick. Visit the Captive. It is the work that I know I would find Him doing were He here today. These principles define who we are as a people in emulating our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a work to bless, refine and exalt Our Father’s children. Go and Do thou likewise.

We must love one another and serve one another: this is the essence of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -- To care for the poor and the needy and to give service. Relief Society has always been at the heart of welfare to pour in oil and wine to heal the distressed. Inspired home teachers bless lives. Inspired Visiting Teachers provide support and help to families to relieve the suffering of the poor, hungry or distressed. We can all contribute to the Lord’s Storehouse. When love becomes the guiding principle then our service becomes the gospel in action. The Welfare plan truly provides in the Lord’s Way.

From discerning the patterns of receiving LIGHT, we can learn about the Spirit of Revelation and basic patterns of revelation received. Sincere desire and worthiness invite the Spirit of Revelation into our lives. Ask in Faith with a honest heart and believe that you will receive. APPLY UNTO IT! The Spirit whispers to us gently and delicately. To recognize the subtle messages from God, we need to reject the Devil’s enticements. Dreams, Visions, Conversations with Heavenly Messengers, and Inspiration. A Light turned on is like receiving an immediate message from God. These mighty miracles do occur but are rare and less common. Most frequently, Revelation comes in small increments, line upon line, precept upon precept and distills upon our souls as the dews from heaven. These kind of gentle messages from God are more common. Fundamental truths of the Gospel were not delivered all at once. The very simpleness of the way may make us look beyond the mark. Press forward, obediently, with Faith in the Savior and you will not go astray. Many times we receive revelation without recognizing how or where or when we are actually receiving it. “Thou knowest that thou enquired of ME and I did enlighten thy mind.” (Example of Oliver Cowdery) As we honor our covenants and strive to do good and do better, God will inspire our utterances. “Then shall our confidences wax strong before God.” The Spirit of Revelation is REAL!

This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the Inspired Church Welfare Program, which is inspired by Almighty God.

The TEMPLE. 1902: make Temples accessible as possible to the people. 1830-1980= 21 Temples were built. 1980 –2011= 115 Temples built and dedicated, and now 26 additional temples announced or under construction. Temples bring JOY to our Faithful Members. We feel a renewed sense of Thankfulness for TEMPLES. Great sacrifices of members to attend the Temples to receive the blessings offered there. Temples are more than stone and mortar, Faith and Fasting, Trials and TESTIMONIES they are sanctified by sacrifice and service. The Saints were forced to leave Ohio and their beloved Temple. With their Faith intact they erected another Temple to their God. Seeking refuge, they labored for 40 years on the Salt Lake Temple in a place that no one wanted. Some degree of sacrifice is always associated with Temple building and Temple attending. THOSE WHO UNDERSTAND THE BLESSINGS OF THE TEMPLE KNOW THAT NO SACRIFICE IS TOO GREAT! They understand that the saving ordinances received in the Temple to return us to our Heavenly Father are worth great hardships. If you live close, then your sacrifice is setting aside TIME to attend the Temple. The work is OURS to DO! The greatest experiences in our families have come in the Temple. No more important work to do than being worthy to qualify and enter the Temple. Regard the Temple recommend as a precious possession. Our all important crowning blessings are those received in the Temples of God. Parents should have pictures of the Temple in the bedrooms and throughout the house. Teach our children of the Temple’s importance. We will be more able to bear every trial as we find PEACE and are renewed and sanctified in the Temple. The ROME Temple is being built in one of the most historical places where the Apostles preached the Gospel 2500 years ago. At the ground breaking, it was felt that heaven and earth had been joined. Each Temple stands as a beacon to the world and as a testimony that Heavenly Father has blessed His children with knowledge of life beyond the grave. May we follow in the footsteps of Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

President Boyd K. Packer, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: WE ARE MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS!

Our Scriptures today consist of the Bible, The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, The Doctrine of Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price. We are often called Mormons, but this is not accurate. The scriptures tell us that we should take upon us the name of Christ and be Called of His Name. We are called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to proclaim the Name of the Savior through-out the world. We should use the full name, which is preferred. In our speech, we should remember that we belong to The Church of Jesus Christ. In the Church, every Ordinance is done under the authority and in the Name of Jesus Christ. The Church is the same as organized by Jesus Christ. The Savior gave His authority to His Disciples and His 12 Apostles.

In 1829, the Priesthood was restored to Joseph Smith by John the Baptist, and later by Peter, James and John. Now, all worthy men are ordained to the Priesthood under the authority and in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Others may not accept prophecy, revelation and the Gift of the Holy Ghost, but they need to understand that WE ACCEPT IT! A Latter-day Saint is taught to be “In the world” but not “Of the world”. It is not easy to be a Latter-day Saint, but in the long-run it is worth it! Everyone of us can be guided by the Spirit of revelation and the Gift of the Holy Ghost. This Church, by the Lord’s own declaration is the Only True and Living Church and contains the great Plan of Happiness.

Nuestras Escrituras consisten hoy en la Biblia, El Libro de mormón, Otro Testamento de Jesucristo, La Doctrina de Convenios, y de La Pearl de Gran Precio. As you pray for us, we pray for you!

We live to die, and then we live again. As Apostles and Prophets, we are not only concerned with our own children and grandchildren, but for your children and grandchildren and we concerned for each of God’s children. Parents bear the primary responsibility to show our Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to our children. Teach them our Faith and of the Plan of Salvation. Teach of Faith to keep all the commandments that will bring them joy. The practice of picking and choosing will not work. We must obey all of the commandments. The Lord will bless us with more light when we are obedient. Teach of Faith to know obedience will provide physical and spiritual protection. God’s holy angels will help us with His angels round about us to bear us up. Unfailing Faith is fortified with prayer. If we pray with an eternal perspective, we need not wonder whether our prayers are heard. Believe Him! God will hear our heart-felt prayers. Tithing is a precious privilege and an ancient commandment. Each of us will be tested as the Apostle Paul warned us about persecution. We have a Divine Nature and an inheritance of Infinite Worth. We are to be the Lord’s Standard Bearers. We are to be a Light and a Savior unto the Lord’s people. The Blessings of the Melchizedek Priesthood holds the keys to all the spiritual Blessings of the Church. The greatest Blessings are given in the Holy Temples of the Lord. We do not have to fight life’s battles alone. The Lord will fight our battles. Though the rain clouds pour down upon us, the blessings of the Lord will shower from heaven.

The Doctrine that Families can be together forever. Being offspring of a loving Heavenly Father is a basic principle of the Gospel as taught in “I Am A Child of God”. Recognizing that we have an earthly family helps us in our families on earth. It is critical to understand the divine and eternal nature of the family. Our eternal happiness is not one of Satan’s objectives. True happiness in this life and in the eternities is found within family life. Happiness in family life is most likely achieved when founded on the doctrines of Jesus Christ. We need to establish a Christ-centered home with daily prayer and scripture study. Our children may not remember any words said or prayed but they will remember being taught and praying together.

As we strive make our families centered on Christ, our homes can truly feel like heaven on earth.

La Doctrina que Familias pueden ser juntos para siempre. Ser progenitura de un Padre Celestial amoroso es un principio básico del Evangelio como enseñó en "Soy UN Niño de Dios". Everyone who is willing to pay the price may have a testimony. The promise given for obtaining a testimony of The Book of Mormon by praying and asking will give you a witness of the Holy Ghost of the truth. This pattern holds for all spiritual things.

Everyone has worth as a Child of God. We must experience trials and be stretched. Sharing our testimonies strengthens others and ourselves. People do good and important things because they have testimonies. “I know God lives and loves us and that Jesus is the Christ.”

We have common desires of basic needs; such as food. But a stronger desire can overcome the need for food, such as the desire to Fast. In overcoming the need to sleep, we can also have the power of an over-riding desire in wanting to make sure others are safe and will arrive home safely. The power of an over-riding desire can have great influence upon us as parents, teachers, and leaders. The Lord will grant our DESIRES because of our LABORS and FAITH. The Lord will judge all of us according to the desire of our works. We are all tempted to desire worldly possessions and prominence, but can heed the warnings and choose to follow the desires of the Lord. When we have a vision of what we can become, our power and our desire to act are strengthened significantly. We should remember that righteous heartfelt, unwavering and motivated. We must be willing to give away all of our sins to know God. Eternal life requires that we desire and acquire the qualities of a Celestial being by loving all of God’s children and desiring to serve them. A paramount desire is to secure an eternal Temple marriage. We need righteous desires to become a true friend, a teacher or one who has qualified for eternal life.

Spiritual Truth: By small means are great things brought to pass. Focus on those things that matter most: the precious Gift of Eternal Life. We must love God and Christ with all our souls, hearts, and minds. This principle will purify and sanctify us. We must love one another as He has loved us. We must love and serve others through kind and simple acts. Charity begins at home. Practice the Golden Rule at home and in the Church. We can rescue others through kind acts of love and service. We can fellowship through service. We can reach out to our communities and lend a helping hand. We can make friendships through kindness and helping another. The future growth of the Church will not happen just by knocking on doors, but by those kind and charitable deeds that show love. Missionary works requires that we are sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Ghost to know who needs our service and small deliberate deeds. We can lose ourselves in service to others. We should desire and seek to possess the Gift of Charity, the Pure Love of Christ, as followers of Jesus Christ. Our small acts of kind and simple service will accumulate into a life filled with love.

I Testify that the voice we have just heard is the voice of the Lord’s Living Prophet. Our Savior and Redeemer: only man to come to earth with dual citizenship in heaven and on earth. Priceless pearls of wisdom in studying the NT; writings of Paul = Be thou an example of the believers. Begin with observance of the Sabbath Day. Pattern to include: WORSHIP. On eve of Lord’s sacrifice, Jesus administered the Sacrament to His Disciples. After His resurrection, He appeared on the American continent and again gave His Disciples the Sacrament. The Priesthood was restored to Joseph Smith in our day. Young men now serve in the Priesthood and bless the Sacrament in the Lord’s Way.

1. Keep ourselves unspotted – Proper Sunday dress is appropriate to prepare for the Sacrament to be spiritually prepared.

2. Go up to the House of Prayer and offer our Sacraments to the Lord – Confess sins and seek repentance and forgiveness from the Lord and worthily partake of the Sacrament to have His Spirit to be with us. Our Covenant of Baptism is renewed.

3. Rest from our labors – Trifle not with sacred things; The Sacrament was made for man. Be filled with love as you honor the Sabbath all day long.

Don’t relax our commitment to the the Savior. Be examples of the believers in our homes and families. My cup runneth over with the blessings from the Infinite and Eternal Atonement.

Windows of Heaven opened to children paying Tithing. We can learn attitude of humility and reverence. We can learn to look for opportunities to serve others. We can learn to share our testimony and desire to follow the Lord’s plan. We can share examples of our believing heart. We can meet adversity with optimism and hope and choose the Lord. We can listen to hear His voice and like a child be meek, humble and submissive and full of faith. The blessed the children and wept and admonished us to “Behold your little one.” Embrace them with our eyes and hearts. In our families our hearts are softened and we can change to have a believing heart and become more Christ-like. If we have a heart to learn, we can change for the better and become as little child and return to our Heavenly Home.

1. Followers of Christ are Loving People because we love Him. We Follow God and His Son. We are not alone in trials and persecution. We forsake many things and resist temptation. Our love for God is stronger than any thing we leave behind. We receive strength from our love for Him. We show our love for Him when we serve others.

2. Make and Keep sacred covenants; We Follow Christ when we are Baptized and covenant to be obedient. We Follow Christ through Priesthood Ordinances. Our Covenants include Promises of Life Eternal. We partake of the Sacrament and Attend the Temple to Follow Christ because we love Him. The power of the Temple is greater than any trial we may face. True followers of Christ are happier and will have the blessings of heaven come to them.

We are healed by the Power of the Lamb of God. Christ chose to experience mortal life, pain and afflictions to understand us. We need to likewise have faith in His power to heal and succor us. We can feel His encircling arms and shed tears of gratitude. We can be clasped in the Arms of Jesus. Our pain can be swallowed up in His Peace and Healing Balm.

Our Women are Daughters of a Loving Heavenly Father who loves them and they LOVE HIM! Heroic account of Pioneer women who suffered and sacrificed is a priceless legacy. Women today are equally strong and faithful. Much in the Church is accomplished by the faithful women. Our Young Women are caring and thoughtful and service-minded and incredible. We are incredible because of the way we face the challenges in life and remain strong in the faith and immoveable. Our faith in a Loving Heavenly Father and the Sacrifice of our Savior permeates our lives. We labor in the vineyard of the Lord for the salvation of the souls of Heavenly Father’s children. We are respected in the Church and in our homes. Sisters are critical in working in the force of salvation. Sisters facilitated the rescue of men and their wives to receiving Priesthood Ordinances and the Blessings of the Temple. We should be at the forefront in setting the example in being the errand of angels in doing the direct and immediate bidding of our Heavenly Father.

Our heart is often stirred with sympathy and the desire to help. Because the Lord hears their cries and feels the depth of our compassion, He has provided the way to help. At times it has been called the Church Welfare program. He has invited and commanded us to participate in His work to comfort those in need. We can renew and strengthen our commitment to act. “Have I Done Any Good in the World Today” The Lord regularly sends wake-up calls to all of us. All of us have been touched with feelings of sympathy for those we don’t even know. We can turn our feelings of sympathy into actions to act in providing comfort and servicing the needs. The joy of doing the Lord’s work can be shared with our children as we give kindly service and share our offerings. Where ever we live, we have seen the miracle of sympathy turned into loving action. The principles of the foundation of the Church’s great Welfare Program are for ALL time, whenever and where-ever the Lord invites us to lift-up the hands that hang down and strengthen the feeble knees.

1. Everyone is happier when they can provide for their family and then reach out to help others. It really is better to give than to receive. “A person cannot give a crust to the Lord without receiving a loaf in return.”

2. “When we unite hands to serve those in need, the Lord unites our hearts”. We feel greater personal dignity when we seek to give.

3. Draw your family into the work to help those in need. The feelings of unity will grow in the Church and in our families and bring a lasting good with softened hearts and feelings of gladness. Those we serve can be purified and strengthened.

Le Roy Anderson Kidd was born June 19, 1819, in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. He died 15 Feb 1888, in a small community out of Manchester, called Ragsdale, Tennessee, and was buried in the Ragsdale Cemetery. His father was John Kidd Jr., who died in Knoxville, Tennessee, and his mother was Lucy Logan. She is also buried in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Rebecca Adaline Lones was born 7 April 1826 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. She died 13 April in Avon, Cache County, Utah, and was buried that same day in the Avon Cemetery. Her father was John Lones and her mother was Evaline Hillsman.

LeRoy Anderson, at the age of twenty-one years became an overseer of a plantation, and was in charge of black slaves, and on 1 Aug 1844, at the age of twenty-five, married Rebecca Adaline Lones in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. They became the parents of the following children while living on the plantation:

Traveling to Missouri

During the year 1850, LeRoy was in Knoxville, and was involved in a fight with three men. During the scuffle, tow of the men were beating LeRoy on the head. He killed one of the men and started after the other two men that were beating him. He was unable to overtake these men. However, he had killed a man in a fight. Therefore, the Klu Klux Klan became involved.

Fearing for his life, LeRoy Anderson Kidd left Tennessee, taking his family to Bolivar, Polk, Missouri.

While living with his relatives at Bolivar, Missouri, the following children were born:

In the fall of 1855, after the harvest was over, LeRoy Anderson felt the problem in Knoxville might have disappeared. Therefore, he took his family back to Knoxville, Tennessee.

His wife, had received some land, and also money from her mother's Estate (her mother had died when she was a small child).

LeRoy Anderson sold some of the property, and also used money from the Estate to become a breeder of fine horses.

During the Civil War, he kept the horses hidden in the swamps, so that the soldiers could not find them.

On March 20, 1856, their last child, Edward Kidd, was born in Knoxville, Tennessee.

When Rebecca Adaline Lones was born on 7 Apr 1826, a black mammy (who also had a nursing child) nursed Rebecca Adaline to her breast until she was old enough to be fed. Her sister, Margaret Lawson Lones was born on 2 Dec 1828. The mother of Rebecca Adaline and Margaret Lawson died during childbirth. Both she and the baby are buried together in Knox County, Tennessee.

After the death of their mother, Rebecca and Margaret, were left in the care of their grandparents (Henry Lones, Sr and Sabilla Hessley). When Rebecca Adaline reached the age of sixteen, she met and fell in love with LeRoy Anderson Kidd. Her grandparents disapproved as he was considered poor (overseer of slaves). They did not think he could care for her properly. She ran away from their home (plantation) and married him anyway. The Lones family disinherited her. However, her father gave her two slaves for a wedding present (male and female). Also, she received part of her mother's Estate.

Rebecca Adaline was a short, dark skinned little lady, full of ambition, and very high strung. She didn't know how to cook or do any kind of domestic housework as she had always had servants (slaves). The years were hard for her and perhaps lonely ones too, after being cast out by her grandparents. One of the slaves her father had given her, taught her many things about keeping a home, caring for children and cooking food.

The sister of Rebecca Adaline, Margaret Lawson Lones, stayed with the grandparents and went to school, got an education, studied law and became one of the first female lawyers in America. She married John E. Helms, who edited the Morristown Gazette, and they sent copies of the Gazette to Rebecca Adaline until she died in Avon, Utah.

Margaret Lawson and husband, John E. Helms, had four children: John Jr, Arthur, Will and Lucy. All were educated. The boys became publishers or worked in that capacity. Lucy married a Gilchrist, and moved to California. The two families never associated with one another. They lived long distances apart for one thing. Rebecca Adaline's children were deprived of an education because of the war (they could not afford being sent away to school). Therefore, the two families lived in separate worlds.

There Will Helms, the youngest of the Helms brothers. He was a friend to the LeRoy Anderson Kidd family. He was well educated and worked in printing offices, but also liked the wide open spaces. When he would get enough money ahead (he tramped the railroad ties until his money would run out), then, he'd work again. He loved the Kidd family and when means would permit, he would visit them. He often sent gifts at Christmas time. And he did not treat them with disrespect because of their being poor and having little education.

On 8 Jun 1861, Tennessee joined the Confederacy. War then became a reality to the people within the State of Tennessee. The LeRoy Anderson Kidd family would be right in the middle of the war. The property that was purchased when they returned in 1855 was in Ragsdale, Tennessee, a small community outside Manchester, and within a short distance from Nashville, Tennessee.

Nashville and the surrounding countryside fell to the Yankee Soldiers on December 15-16, 1864. The children of LeRoy Anderson and Rebecca Adaline were soon to learn that with the Civil War at their door, they were to suffer a hardship of pain, hunger, and sadness. Their ages at that time are as follows:

LeRoy Anderson Kidd tried to hide his horses in the swamp land for protection and live off the farm land. They had nothing to eat at times but herbs and roots that they had dug and gathered. Their son, George Washington, used to say that he grew so hungry and starved that he would reel as he walked and would crawl around in the yard and look for what they called “Joung Grass” to sustain life. This grass tasted similar to mustard greens when it was boiled.

George Washington Kidd would fall to the ground behind the plow as he was so weak from starvation. Their bread was made from molded wheat flour. It would make the children sick to eat it. Their barns, shed’s and lumber they had stacked to build a new house was all set on fire by the Yankee Soldiers. The only thing left standing on their farm was their house and out house. The fields were also burned. Many times the Yankee Soldiers would come into their home and if there was any food anywhere, they would eat it, or destroy it.

One time, Rebecca Adaline was making “cornpone”. The soldiers came into the house a took it. One of them dumped it in his hat. She begged them to give it her children. The children cried for it, but they took it. Another time a group of soldiers (Yankees), came to their place and over took LeRoy Anderson and his sons “James and George Washington”. They were taking a load of corn to the grist mill in Manchester.

The mules were so poor that they had to ride them and use spurs on them to make them go. The soldiers ordered James to take off the spurs. He told the soldiers they could not drive the mules without the spurs. The officer in charge drew his pistol, cocked it at James, and told one of his men to take the spurs, which he did.

James told his father that he was going to get paid for the spurs. That night, the best horse LeRoy Anderson had left the swamp with James straddled upon it. He and some young southern fellows followed this group of Yankee soldiers to a church building they were using for living quarters. They soon engaged in a small battle. They was shooting all day Sunday and the Yankee Soldiers received help. The Southern boys had to run for their lives.

But James Kidd’s horse could out run those who came after him. He was able to save his life. He was paid for the spurs. The Spurs were gold plated. Then James joined the Confederate Army, and was in it until the war ended. He was past nineteen years old when the war ended and he returned home.

Months went by. Food was scarce. People were hungry. When there was a crop, the Yankee soldiers would come through the community and burn or destroy it. That is the way the North whipped the South.

Times were hard for the LeRoy Anderson Kidd family and getting harder by the day. They barely lived from one day to the next. On one occasion, Rebecca Adaline had gotten hold of some cornmeal. She made a “Hoe Cake” (Cornmeal cake baked on a griddle in the fireplace-turned like a pancake when one side was baked.) One “Hoe Cake” was large enough for a small family. While she was cooking it, some Yankee soldiers came and took it off the fire and crumbled it on the ground outside the house. In her words she said “Please, gentlemen, my children are crying for food. Won’t you please spare them this little bit of food?” But they gave no heed to her cries.

On January 31, 1865, it was announced that President Lincoln had signed the Declaration to abolish slavery. And on April 9 1865, General Lee surrendered to General Grant. The war was finally over on June 2, 1865.

At the close of the Civil War, the “carpet baggers” came through Tennessee and caused a lot more of sorrow, burning houses and raiding farms for food. LeRoy and Rebecca’s youngest son, Henry, was about eleven years old. He as very ill with fever and congestion of the lungs. It would be pneumonia: the “Carpet baggers” came into the house, rolled him off his bed and onto the floor and they ripped open the straw mattress to see if there was food hidden in it. Henry died a few minutes after they left the house. They took the deeds to the property and hid them under a rock. LeRoy later found the deeds to their property.

After the war was over, LeRoy Anderson Kidd kept on farming. The slaves were freed. Some of them were glad but others would not leave even though LeRoy and Rebecca had no money to pay them. Most of the horses were sold for money. They needed the money.

LeRoy Anderson and his sons worked hard after the war trying to rebuilt their farm land into proper production. Also, to rebuild sheds and barns that were destroyed. The family stayed in the old home but also built a large two-room log house with one room large enough for two rooms but no partition was built. The house also contained a guest room where relatives of friends slept as the case may be. The house was nicely furnished and had a rag carpet which was used so much in those early days and the kitchen was separated into it’s own room.

A large Cedar tree shaded the porch of this house and each spring a spreading Apple Geponicar bush filled with red blossoms. The apples it bore were so fragrantly scented and always at dusk came the call of the whippoorwill. This house later became the residence of Rebecca Adaline with her husband LeRoy Anderson moving into the older home with their son George Washington and family.

Rebecca Adaline had a violent temper. She and her husband quarreled and were separated for years but never divorced. She would throw dishes of anything when she was mad. On one occasion she went to the house of her son “George Washington” and just pulled the door off it’s hinges. LeRoy said he never did do the things she accused him of, but they never went back together. After LeRoy died, then Rebecca Adaline came to live with her son, George Washington Kidd.

When their son, Leander, was older (no actual age is really known), he became demented and lost his mind. He was unsafe to be let loose and had to be placed in an institution on two occasions, which did him no good. On his last return visit to home, he told his mother, Rebecca Adaline, they were mean to him and he didn’t was to go back. She kept Leander at her house and cared for him for many years.

Leander’s mental state was such that he had to be chained. His mother gave him such things that would amuse him or interest him. His room was so arranged that Leander could get out on the porch in the cool of the summer and exercise. He was harmless toward the family members or visitors. Even little babies crawling on the floor. He would say “Take care! You might get hurt!” and lift the babies out of the way. Then there were times he would walk the floors profaning, not conscious of what was going on around him, but those actions became common place with the family and no one was afraid of his unusual actions.

Even though Leander (Lannie to the family) had to be chained, he had free association with the family on occasions of family gatherings and dinners. The dining table was always set in his room where he could pull up to the table and eat with the family. Still, he lived in a world of unreality and paid little attention to what was going on or what was said. He was a schizophrenia patient, therefore, unpredictable.

George Washington Kidd Family

As the children of George Washington Kidd grew up, each boy took their turn staying with Grandma Rebecca at night and taking her fresh milk each evening. This was continued until a certain age - then another would take over. Usually, however, it finally became the duties of Henry Mike Lee or George Clement to stay at their Grandmother’s for the night. These two would take turns.

Rebecca’s whole heart and life surrounded her son, Leander. While in her care, he got the best care she could possibly give him. She seldom ever left her home because of him.

In 1877, Rebecca wrote to her sister Margaret, an attorney and also wife of the owner of the Morristown Gazette. The response is as follows:

Quoting from the letter:
Morristown Tenn. Sept 6th 1877
My dear sister:
Your very kind and welcome letter under date of August 31 came to hand a few days ago. In reply to your inquiry about the two tracts of land in Coffee County, and your legality to them as the rightful owner. I will state that I remember well the time your husband was negotiating for them and when he wrote you in regard to buying them - stating that he had a good bargain as he thought and requested you to draw your portion of money from the Lones Estate for the purpose to purchase with. You did get the money, and through that money, the land -two tracts was bought by your husband.

The first payment on them was four-hundred dollars, which you borrowed from your Uncle Joseph Lones. When your money came due from the Court, you returned to Knoxville and drew between six-hundred and seven-hundred dollars. I think it was something in the neighborhood of that amount, and returned the four-hundred dollars borrowed money back to your Uncle Joseph with fifty dollars interest.

After being absent some time, you came back and drew nine-hundred dollars - the last draw from the Lones Estate. I disremember how many draws you made, but think some four or five; also, think your share of the Estate was something over two thousand dollars. It possibly may have been three thousand.

At any rate whatever amount it was, the books in the Clerk’s office in Knoxville will show. Before departing for home, you remarked to me that you would have money left over after the paying of the two-tracts of land mentioned above, sufficient to buy a couple of horses and some furniture for your house.

Was very uneasy when you left for fear that you would be robbed on the way. Before going, I warned you to have both tracts of the land deeded in your own name, as I knew the same was purchased with your money and that Mr. Kidd being a hard-drinking man would very probably run through with the property unless in your hands.

After you returned to your home in Coffee County, you informed me by letter that your husband had gotten the best tract of the land deeded in his own name and that you were greatly worried about it, for fear that he might eventually twist it from your hands through some reckless trades and perhaps deprive you and your children of a home.

…..(The rest of the letter which is yellowed with time is missing, however by the date of the letter, it would appear that Rebecca Adaline was fifty-one years old, and that she was living in her own house, with LeRoy Anderson living with their son, George Washington Kidd.)

Rebecca Adaline, at this time in her life, always had plenty to eat, and when her grandchildren wanted something special for their school lunch pail, they would stop by, and if she had it, she would contribute a little specialty to them. She had a little trundle bed by the fireplace for a grandchild to sleep in. Then before the grandchild went to bed in the evening, she would toast cheese on the coals by the fire. To say nothing of the coals being mixed with the cheeses. This was a favorite and special night for the grandchildren. They sat in the twilight of night, and watched the flicker of the blaze in the fireplace, until their eyes began to get heavy. Then they would go to bed and fall into a peaceful sleep.

Rebecca, in her girl-hood days, prior to marriage, was considered an excellent singer, and was always called upon by the ministers to lead the singing, however, she professed no religion denomination.

After the Civil War, it was very hard to make a “come back”, and ever harder for the Kidd family. There were no schools during the war, and when schools were organized, the larger children had to work in the fields and help make the living to keep food in their home. Many children never learned to read, or write. George Washington Kidd went to school just long enough to read and write.

Prior to the marriage of George Washington Kidd to Mary Elinda Morrow, his father, LeRoy Anderson Kidd, sold the tract of land with the old home to his son. They both lived together and worked the farm together. LeRoy Anderson Kidd lived with his son and daughter-in-law until his death on 15 Feb 1888. It was said of him by his daughter-in-law that he was a gentle, kindly old man, and he was so good to help her and care for the children when she went to the field to work.

Finally, the day came when Rebecca Adaline had to say good-bye to her son Leander. Her son George Washington, was moving to Utah and she could not be left alone. Her other son James, said that he would not be able to care of her. She wept at the thought of leaving her son Leander, as she had done on two previous occasions when George would plan to go out west and each time, he would finally give in and not go.

This time however, his mind was made up. She was not very well at the time and was taking treatment for a liver ailment, but she was promised by her son, the best possible comforts attainable for traveling.

Her son Leander was placed in an institution. Her property was sold. The main place with the old house was rented out. A trunk belonging to Rebecca Adaline was placed with clothing and pictures. It was then placed on the train along with her favorite kitchen chair that had survived the Civil War. A sleeping car was rented for the long trip to Utah.

Her daughter-in-law was with Rebecca day and night in the sleeping car to see that she was all right during the traveling. The train arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah. The family changed trains at the depot and continued on to Logan, Utah on March 12, 1909. Then, they had to travel by wagon to Avon, Utah the same day.

On 13 April 1909, Rebecca Adaline passed away and was buried in the Avon Cemetery in a lonely grave where only a few others rest. She was eighty three years old at the time of her death. The only worldly possessions she left were the trunk and its contents, her chair and a special walking cane. This cane was made from a shark’s backbone which later her daughter used.

LeRoy Anderson Kidd was 69 years old when he passed away in Tennessee. His father was John Kidd Jr and had eleven children with his wife Lucy Logan. His grandfather was John Kidd St and his grandmother was Celia/Selia Anderson (the first records of them) are on Indian Creek, Amherst County, Virginia.

Story of the Spur

Civil War 1863

In about the year 1863 the Civil War had been raging for two years. The Northern soldiers were occupying much of the South.**

Grandfather Leroy Kidd lived about four miles from the town of Manchester Tenn.

He had been a breeder of fine horses, and was of the wealthier class of the South.

The Northern soldiers too all the food from the people and all the animals they could find. However, Grandfather had hid his best horses in the swamps before the soldiers came.

James Kidd (young and old)

One day, as Grandfather Kidd and his son James (Jim) were taking a load of corn to the grist mill, a group of Northern soldiers stopped them. The horses they were using were very old and very poor. Uncle Jim was riding one to make the others go and was using spurs to make the old horse move.

The captain saw the spurs and demanded them. Grandfather Kidd pleaded with the soldiers and asked them to leave him and his son alone.

He told them with out the spurs the horses would not work and his children were without food. The captain ordered one of his men to take the spurs.

Uncle Jim told "I'll get pay for that spur." Grandfather hushed him and drove away. He was afraid the soldiers would shoot his son.

Later that night Uncle Jim and some of his friends went to the swamps. Uncle Jim took one of his father's best horses and they road to the Northern camp. They killed many soldiers and chased the rest into a church.

They kept them there until the Northern reinforcements arrived.

Uncle Jim and his friends had to run for their lives.

Uncle Jim's horse out-ran and out-jumped all the rest.

He told Grandfather later he jumped fences higher than his head.

With the help of his very fast horse, Uncle Jim got paid for his spur.

The remaining spur is now owned by Val Kidd.

** “The Civil War did not leave Manchester and Coffee County unscathed. In June of 1863, Union forces came southward from their victory at the battle of Murfreesboro and engaged Confederate forces in northwestern Coffee County. Though it was a small battle in terms of the outcome of the war, it was the first time that Spencer repeating rifles were used (7 to be specific). Severely outnumbered, the Union troops were still able to route their opponents en route to the next big battle of the war, Chattanooga, TN.” (Manchester Chamber of Commerce www.macoc.org )

“Courageous parenting does not always involve saying no. Parents also need courage to say yes to the counsel of modern-day prophets. Our Church leaders have counseled us to establish righteous patterns in our homes. Consider five fundamental practices that have the power to fortify our youth: family prayer, family scripture study, family home evening, family dinner together, and regular one-on-one interviews with each child.
It takes courage to gather children from whatever they’re doing and kneel together as a family. It takes courage to turn off the television and the computer and to guide your family through the pages of the scriptures every day. It takes courage to turn down other invitations on Monday night so that you can reserve that evening for your family. It takes courage and willpower to avoid overscheduling so that your family can be home for dinner.”
