Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited ("BPL" or "Company"; AIM Symbol: BXP), the fast-growing manufacturer of generic pharmaceutical products and active pharmaceutical ingredients, today announces that it has received GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) approval from the Canadian regulatory authority, Health Canada.
Nazmul Hassan, Managing Director of Beximco Pharma, said; “Canada is an important market for Beximco Pharma and this approval marks a significant milestone for the Company, further validating our high standards of quality and compliance practices. This approval builds on our existing presence in key regulated markets and is an important step towards our aspiration to become a global generic drug player.’’

Beximco Pharma is certified by the EU regulatory authority, where the Company has been exporting medicines since 2013, and has received approvals from the relevant authorities in Australia, Latin America, Gulf Nations, and South Africa, among others. In addition, Beximco Pharma has won the National Export Trophy (Gold), the highest national accolade for export, a record four times for its outstanding contribution to the country’s export.

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic with in vitro bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactam, structurally related to the penicillins, which possesses the ability to inactivate some beta-lactamase enzymes commonly found in microorganisms resistant to penicillins and cephalosporins. The formulation of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid in Tyclav protects amoxicillin from degradation by some beta-lactamase enzymes and extends the antibiotic spectrum of amoxicillin to include many bacteria normally resistant to amoxicillin.
