Now that the dust has settled and Habib is a Villain, the Beyewatch boys are looking for a new mission (feel free to let us know what you think that mission should be).

We had hoped that we could pass www.beyewatch.co.uk on like the olympic torch and that Villa fans would love Habib as much as we do but it seems they are underwhelmed and we've received no contact from any Villains interested in creating new songs for Habib.

We've read some nonsense on Villa fan pages suggesting that Habib is simply cover for Luke Young and a fifth choice centre back. We can't agree. Perhaps the number 23 shirt doesn't hold the same magic as the 21, or perhaps Habib is just paying the price for a fraught and confusing pre-season. For us, Habib was never less than good and was often stunning. Without doubt Habib Beye would have been our club captain this season had he stayed.

It may be that Beyewatch lives on only as a resource chronicling the life and times of Habib whilst he was a Geordie. We suspect Aston Villa message boards to be full of people claiming Beyewatch songs as their own witty contributions. We can't stop that, but the domain will run out at some stage and Beyewatch will be lost forever...

Reports confirming that the Toon have accepted an improved bid from Hull City for Habib Beye are circling this evening.

It looks like the 'player of the season curse' has struck again with the 07/08 fans favourite following this season's best; Seb Bassong, out of the door.

We're pressing our sources for confirmation of Habib's destination as there may still be a sting in the tail with Villa said to be circling.

Sir Bobby Robson died today, Friday 31st July 2008. It is a terribly sad day for us at Beyewatch.

It puts everything into perspective. Club in ruin, players chasing money, idiots at the helm and a gentleman leaves us.

We've been deliberately quiet here at Beyewatch over the last few weeks. Not because we're lazy, just because we're in limbo. We're receiving songs and other such titbits from you our readers but have avoided posting anything whilst our future is uncertain.

Sure we could continue our irreverent banter, recycle non-news events or even feed the machine by producing non-authoritative stories / theories of our own. Fact is we don't know what's going on and anyone who says they do is probably a liar or a part of the machine.

For those of you craving gossip we can recommend heading over to Twitter to follow @toonnews as they do a great job of aggregating the stories that are out there without claiming any of them as fact or indeed as stories of their own.

We've seen a load of references to Beyewatch, Beye Watched, Beye being Watched etc in the press over the last few weeks and it makes us chuckle. Habib even drops us into conversation with the likes of Shaun Custis and other reporters. One thing is for sure; Beye will stay or go! That's about all we know. He would want to stay if conditions were right, he'd want to go if they weren't. We presume that's true of everyone at the club, including the tea lady.

So no news is good news eh? Well that's why we're writing. No news is terrible news as the news outlets fuel supporters craving for news. No news means recycled news and worst of all invented news. We just wanted you to know we're not playing the game.

Have you heard that Phil Brown was seen at Newcastle Airport with a briefcase load of cash and the great mango book ?

See! Nothing worse.... It appears we're now playing the game. We'll be back when we have something useful to add or if we think of a brilliant rumour.

Going Greek?

The Chronicle is reporting Greek interest in Habib Beye. There's no need for Habib to leave to get a taste of Greece. We can recommend Cafe Neon and Simply Greek on Newcastle's Bigg Market (Neon's lunch menu has been the focus of many Beyewatch meetings - probably the reason why we get so little done!).

Habib's pal Cisse has apparently recommended Habib to Panathinaikos' manager Henk Ten Cate. Interesting then that Cisse has recommended a club he has never represented rather than the Black Cats down the road.

We can only hope that if Habib leaves the Mags he is not lost to the English game. The opportunity to applaud Habib for his efforts, even if he is on the opposing team, is one we'll never pass up. Beyewatch may end if/when Habib leaves the Town but we'll always remember Habib's effort, attitude and ability as he joins the clan of recent legends: Shearer, Ferdinand, Batty, Asprilla, Beardsley, Albert, Srnicek, Quinn and Fumaca...

Good Beye and Good Luck?

The Sun's Shaun Custis is running with the headline 'Good Beye and good riddance' (SkySports has also picked up on the piece with the headline 'Beye - I must leave toon') which doesn't necessarily represent Habib's feeling towards the club and the fans in the best light. What it does spell out is Habib's frustration with the Club and it's administration as we reel from disaster to disaster. Shaun kindly mentions Beyewatch however as a mark of how well regarded Habib Beye is by Newcastle supporters.

Habib has entered the final year of his contract, but as we've mentioned before, this is his last big deal and helps secure his future -whatever that may be.

There will be no end of clubs after Habib, especially if he puts in a transfer request, sparking a feeding frenzy from the the top 6 downwards in the Premier league. The fee is likely to be attractive to many as Habib has another few good years in him and is a natural leader.

It's hard to write more. We love Habib and have put our heart and soul into this site to celebrate his whole-hearted displays for the club. Should Habib be transfer listed or sold, then this site will also be transfer listed and sold. We'll no doubt archive the site somewhere so that we can remember the good old days but the Beyewatch domain should move with the player, to fans who will support him with the fervour we have.

No doubt Habib will command the same level of respect at any club he graces. We wish him well. We wish he would stay....

Caption Competition Winner!

We received over 40 submissions for our Habib Beye caption competition and after a long period of deliberation since the deadline on Friday we can finally announce the winner and a selection of entries that came close...

Drum roll please.....

The winner is Mr Daniel Gibson of Staffordshire who summarised the sickly sweet looking strip and the current ownership issue perfectly by providing the following caption:

'Willy Wonka announced as new Newcastle owner.'

Daniel had previously seemed to miss the point by initially submitting the 'bananas in pyjamas' image above as his entry. We were initially unsure about the caption as it doesn't reference Habib nor is it intended to be spoken by Habib. Regardless, Bongo and I thought it was the funniest and our decision is final! You can see if you think we were right or not by reviewing our top 6 featured below.

Caption Competition

Remember a while ago we said we'd met Habib? Well before Habib jetted out of Tyneside for a much needed holiday he kindly left a few items for Beyewatch's attention.

Firstly was an autographed photo for the winner of the Beyewatch Fantasy League.

Secondly was another signed photo, this time dedicated to Beyewatch, thanking us for our stirling work. (This has already claimed pride of place in my living room - soz rest of the team, there's no time share).

Finally, and perhaps most excitingly, was an official Newcastle United polo shirt, the sort worn by the players pre-match on the bus and around the ground etc. This particular shirt was worn by Habib on the day we were relegated and still has a faint smell of his cologne (which is fading as the days go by).

This shirt could be seen by some as a poisoned chalice but regardless we thought we'd put it up for grabs to you, our readers.

You'll notice the image above of Habib Beye in the new 2009/10 away kit. All we need from you is a caption. What do you think Habib is saying? Keep it clean(ish) and as funny as possible and email it to songs@beyewatch.co.uk

We'll judge them all and the funniest will receive the Adidas NUFC Polo Shirt AS WORN BY HABIB BEYE. (We might even work out how to confirm it's authenticity somehow when Habib's back). The Golden Touch?

Not only do we have a new away kit with a Golden tinge, Newcastle United also has a new supporter. Good luck charm Dean 'Midas' Maynard is backing the Toon this season and he's confident that Newcastle are going straight back to the Premiership.

You might remember the name from some of our match build-ups earlier in the season where Dean was providing his predicted results. Dean's predictions were spookily wide of the mark but Midas explains:

"I was happy to be asked by Beyewatch to provide a few match predictions last season but was sorry and surprised to see Newcastle go down, especially since my wife is a Geordie! My energies last season were with other clubs such as Stoke so I might not have given my all to the predictions. I got a couple of the results right though without getting the score spot on didn't I? I'm 100% behind my 3 clubs this season and along with Port Vale and Luton, Newcastle will be getting my full support!"

It's easy to dismiss this as hokum but we could do with some luck. Dean backed Stoke's survival bid, Blyth's FA Cup run and Luton's LDV Vans Trophy win. Rather predictably Luton were relegated after starting the season on minus 13 and were probably beyond luck at that stage.

You might think he's a mentalist but we'll see eh? It's no more crazy than what's been going on at the club over the last few years and you don't have to be a mind reader to know that we'll be psych'd if we get promoted. Wouldn't it be spooky if we won a cup or two?

Should I stay or should I go?

The latest bit of piffle from a clearly bored news team who were too skint to have a summer holiday suggests that the Mackems may be ready to put an offer in for Habib Beye!

Firstly it is unthinkable that Beye would leave our club. Secondly and most importantly, it would be criminal to allow him to go to our nearest and dearest rivals. No doubt Habib holds Newcastle fans in too high a regard to consider it either. But...

We understand that Habib is in a difficult situation. The player is 31, has a year to run on his contract, is facing second tier football and the future of the club's ownership and management is uncertain. There is no doubt, (at least from us at Beyewatch) that Habib wants to stay at Newcastle, but we can understand the rumours of Premiership clubs circling like vultures.

Habib's not getting any younger, although he has a good few years service left in him. The issue is a matter of common sense to us at least, consider the scenario: Habib ignores the overtures of other clubs to stay at the toon with the ownership issue still up in the air. Habib doesn't get a new contract and reports for pre-season. During a training session or a pre-season game, Habib lunges for the ball and breaks his leg (heaven forbid - remember, this is hypothetical). The result? Habib misses a season, gets paid nonetheless but sees out his contract on the treatment table. This has knock-ons for his next deal, the club and no doubt his future earnings. It's no surprise that other clubs see this uncertainty as a green light to court Habib.

The fact of the matter is; Habib, like others in the squad, are good for Newcastle United and need to be pinned down with a new contract regardless of the ownership issue. Make Habib skipper and see how many shirts we sell! It doesn't matter if this is done by Lambias from London or from Darsley Park, but it does need to be done. A saleable club needs assets, and we don't have many more valuable than Habib Beye...

Footy Fixtures First

The Beyewatch hot line rang this morning and we told of a fabled list of kosher Championship fixtures available on the Internet. Now, these fixtures were taken down from said site (presumably because the site involved didn't have the relevant licence to re-produce the fixtures and of course because they were letting the cat out of the bag).

We thought we'd report what we read, or at least the first few lines which would indicate that Newcastle United will open their 2009/2010 campaign away at West Brom. Our first home fixture, if reports are correct will be against Reading FC.

So two sides with recent Premier League experience to start. The run-in didn't look bad but we'll let you read about that when the fixtures come out for real.

We've had a few people question our sources in the past, most recently a QPR fan! Let's hope the egg is firmly off the face this time.

Beyewatch Fantasy League - Results

Forget Britain's Got Talent, X-Factor, Nancy and the rest, the Beyewatch Fantasy League has been this years most riveting competition. Having lead for most of the season, Andy 'the' Fear has been checked into the Priory with exhaustion. Andy was pipped to the post by Kev 'the ferret' Moore who amassed 1909 points with an end of season surge reminiscent of Fulham.

In a last minute deal struck with Mr Beye himself, the Beyewatch Fantasy League winner receives a signed photo. Keep an eye out for our summer competition where the winner will receive a 'worn by Beye' NUFC polo shirt. In the meantime keep your eyes peeled for a decent free Championship Fantasy League otherwise we won't be able to do it next year.

Many of you will have already read Bongo's thoughts on our relegation. There's two of us actively writing for Beyewatch and we don't always get the chance to consult on posts. Needless to say I echo many of Bongo's sentiments which were undoubtedly written with raw nerves on show. Whilst I distance myself from the profanity which doesn't usually grace the pages of Beyewatch (well done on the asterisks by the way) I wanted to stick my two penneth in....

Tomorrow I will be buying a new Newcastle shirt. Not because I like it, not because I want to line Mr Ashley's pockets and most of all not because I think it will make a difference to the club. I will be buying it to show people that I support my club. I watched the game, like many, away from home in a room with Hull, Boro and Sunderland supporters. I was proud to wear my shirt but I cannot say I was proud of my team.

I was recently told that the difference between a fan and a supporter is that one will make a choice about whether to buy a season ticket and the other will simply buy a season ticket because they must. I personally don't hold stock with such elitist rubbish. It's part of the reason that the southern press think we're idiots. Just ask the many Newcastle fans who don't have season tickets how they felt on Sunday and I can't believe that it will have been palpably different to a season ticket holder. We all suffered. Together.

I leave it up to the choice of the individual as to how they support their club as it is undoubtedly their club too; it is our club. Mr Ashley would be well advised not to pretend he's one of us. But if he stays he must understand us. Sure we'll buy the shirts and we'll all hope Shearer stays. Attendances will drop, no doubt, and the southern press will snipe. We'll still have bigger gates than 90% of the Premier League and our support will leave a hole so wide that Sky and Setanta won't know what hit them.

The biggest tragedy will be if we simply become Ashley's punters. Blindly renewing a season ticket seems a strange show of support when it ultimately benefits an individual. Mr Ashley must do the honourable thing, whatever that may be. I suggest that Newcastle United's product is not football, selling shirts or gaining TV revenues. Newcastle United's product is hope, it is dreams, it is the thought that we can be better than we are and that we can show others that we're not all flat caps, whippets and stupid accents. We don't expect, we hope. We have passion and we have soul and that in this day and age of political correctness, equal opportunities and an ever expanding north / south divide is unpalatable to many.

So next season I'll pull on my shirt and support my team in whatever way I see fit. I'll be the judge of how much I love my team and nobody can tell me otherwise. Howay the lads.
