Whilst we have used resellers for many years, the formalisation of the partnership programme gives you greater flexibility in cross-selling additional solutions that complement your existing sales into your clients - whilst also achieving healthy margins of 30%+, flexible payment options and continued revenue streams through contracted support agreements.

So why now?

In October 2008 we recorded our highest ever number of sales enquiries. At a time when the world's economy is slowing down and bracing for impact, Encoded's products and solutions are proving a lifeline to businesses needing to cut costs and ring-fence their customers. This offers consultants, system integrators and VARs a unique opportunity to continue growing their business through this difficult period with a new and exciting portfolio of industry proven products.

Over the years we have amassed a wide collection of case studies and
testimonials from happy customers that are made available to resellers
allowing them to demonstrate to their clients how they too could
benefit from Encoded's award winning services.

But everyone is tightening their belts!

Cutting costs and saving money is precisely what our products offer, and customers usually see a return on investment within just 6-9 months which makes our proposition very attractive. For example, our automated payment solution, used for processing credit and debit card transactions without operator assistance, slashes costs by up to 80% and often improves cash flow by 100%.

Is the partnership programme for everyone?

No. We have laid out extremely rigorous acceptance criteria to ensure that our chosen partners are the best in their industry and can offer their customers added value through our products and solutions.

Potential candidates for our channel partner programme include telephony, data and IT specialists, fulfilment and marketing agencies, PBX installers, systems integrators, telecommunication service providers, fixed and wireless telco networks.

If you're interested in joining the partnership programme then please call me or a member of my team on 08000 144 355.
<xhtml:img xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/BeyondVoice/~4/fw63--Eiz5Y" height="1" width="1" />

I recently experienced what is probably an everyday occurrence, but it still rather shocked me. I was on a packed commuter train when a young lady made a phone call, talked for a bit about some purchase she had made, and then proceeded to rattle off all her personal information: name; address; date of birth; credit card details.

Anyone in our carriage could have taken down those details and gone on a wild spending spree - and with the ubiquity of mobile internet probably cleaned out her account by the time she got off the train.

There should be just as many rules, and equally strict penalties, for companies that allow customers to read out their details over the phone as there are for online card payment transactions.

The number of companies who expect customers to reel off their card details to a stranger sitting in a call centre is bewildering. Just yesterday, I called a major financial institution to settle my balance and I didn't even have the option of using an automated touch-tone system. I had to speak to a live operator.

Aside from that operator (and possibly even myself) not knowing who's listening to me, there are so many risks involved with this kind of transaction:

The call centre operator could make a note of my card details and use or sell them. There have been several cases of this within UK and offshore call centres and I'm sure it happens all the time.

If the call is recorded, as so many are these days, who else is going to hear my card details?

My card details could just be written down and passed to another member of staff to process the payment - more eyes on my credit card number and more opportunities for them to 'disappear'.

The solution, of course, is to offer me an automated IVR channel for paying my invoice or statement. I just punch my card details into my phone and, assuming the transaction is processed in real-time without human intervention, no-one is going to be able to eyeball my personal details. There shouldn't even be any need for the company to record or store my card details at all.

Then, not only are my details safe and secure, but I've saved time by not having to queue for an operator and I can pay at a time convenient to me - day or night.

With online merchants having to pay a small fortune to achieve PCI compliance to process payments - and facing large fortune fines when things go wrong - isn't it time to stop allowing complete strangers to access our credit card details over the phone?

Who have you given your credit card details to recently?

We’ve recently released an open-sourced API named Jive, so I thought I’d take the time to write a little bit about it to let you know what it is, and what we’re trying to do with it.

One of the main things we do at Encoded is write bespoke IVR applications. It’s sort of our "thing." So when the time came to update our in-house telephony API, we decided to design and create it from scratch, building on the many years of experience we have in writing IVR applications.

As IVR is our main industry niche, we wanted Jive to be a way of creating IVR services quickly and easily rather than simply controlling a telephony switch; there are already plenty of options available to do that. So between taking on the internet with our company’s Team Fortress 2 team and drinking lots of tea, we started to write the new Jive API with certain factors in mind. We wanted it to be simple for a user to write IVR applications without having any specific knowledge of the underlying provider, but at the same time allow users with that knowledge to take advantage of the provider specific functionality available. It was also important that Jive had the ability to implicitly manage resources, taking that strain away from the user.

As we were writing the Jive API, it become increasingly obvious that making the project open-sourced would be a huge benefit. Firstly, it would allow outside developers (who may have different ways of thinking about writing IVR applications) to look at, use, and modify the API, as well as provide very useful feedback to us. This is only going to improve the Jive API; the ol’ Law of Many Eyes. Secondly, it would allow anyone to write providers for the Jive API, meaning that a piece of code written once could be run on any conceivable telephony platform.

So, the Jive API has now been released onto Sourceforge, and I would encourage anyone with an interest in telephony, IVR, etc, to go and take a look at it and let us know what you think. I’d be especially interested to hear from any existing or potential customers who would be interested in writing their own IVR applications in-house, and what sort of functionality they would be expecting from an IVR API. I envisage Jive evolving and changing over the next couple of months as the influence of open-sourced development takes effect, but it will ultimately be for the good of the API.

We were pleased to achieve the first integration of SpinVox technology into an IVR application recently. SpinVox is a great tool for converting voicemail (or in fact any single-party speech stream) into text, with amazing accuracy results (they boast of 95%+, and our testing certainly matched that).

We recently used the technology to automatically transcribe the
audio feedback for an employee satisfaction survey for a major US
telecoms carrier. After going through a 30-ish question multiple choice
survey, employees had the opportunity to leave a 1 minute comment to
say whatever they wanted. Processing these comments through SpinVox
rather than a traditional human transcription route provided much
faster turnaround times and saved about 60% on cost.

You can read a press release about the project here, and we're looking forward to integrating SpinVox into more of our products and solutions in the near future.
