Hey peeps

So I'm creating this new concept album "Certificate 18" - it's going to be something different but with that Beyonder flavour, the idea is a series of pieces that will all join together to form scenes in a movie as it were (there's more but that's the basic premise).

I've been working on three of the pieces for a while now, and doing research,

Update:

I met up with Joel today, a lead member of the band Sunday Driver (www.sundaydriver.co.uk), a real alternative sci fi band (that fits very well in the steampunk mould ), I worked with the band a couple years back and they've grown in leaps and bounds. We spoke last year about doing another project, and it looks like we're going to make it happen, looking to develop a themed show around the bands new album, where I'm going to write some new commissioned work for the show (Beyonder meets Suday Driver), so look out for more updates later in the year, there will probably be some footage which of course will feature here and at www.dcosmic.com.

OK people coming near to the end of my BETT write ups,

The site I've got for you today is Learnalot.com, this is a a site that makes maths fun by
taking it into the realm of practical applications and activities, what also enhances the stimulus for children is the fact that you can (if you want) see your performance in comparison to others all around the country as well as classmates, and work to improve your position.

There are a number of games on the site, each tailored to various themes and parts of the curriculum, currently covering KS3 and new KS2 games being added daily.

If you home school your children, or have a say about what tools your children or pupils use to learn their maths in the KS2 & KS3 age groups Learnalot.com is well worth a look.

Games-Ed - engaging education...

OK people

Today's insight from the BETT educational trade show is a website www.games-ed.co.uk
I spoke to a couple of people from the company that creates the Games Ed games, and I must say that I was impressed, as the game we looked at Sustainville was great fun, getting players to look at how to allocate scarce resources (funds) for a city/town and seeing how this affects the city in terms of employment, crime, environment, education, housing etc. looking at the different concerns there are in running a city. The game I played actually plays like Football Manager for any of you that have played that game you'll know how addictive it is. It in essence teaches about economics, geography, town planning, social issues amongst other things. If we had this in my geography lessons, it certainly would have been alot more fun, and initiated plenty of dicussions on how to best plan/ sustain a city.

For those of you who teach in this area or have contact with teachers in this field, this certainly would be worth taking a look.

So the second offering I've got for you from the BETT trade show is "SHAKESPEARE IN BITS", this is an innovative way of reading / seeing/ studying Shakespeare.

The creators have pain stakingly created a flash animated version of Romeo and Juliet & Macbeth. But that's not all, what's innovative is that you can have access to the text on screen at the same time, you can visually see how charaters are related to each other, you can visually see the role the characters play with in the plot, great for people with visual learning styles. There is easy visual scene selection, roll over margin notes explaining key themes, historical references, language etc.

And the program is available for mobile devices, Ipads as well as the normal PC/MAC market.

So first up from my trip to BETT

Ever wanted to get your children creating apps rather than just consuming them?
Well www.Yousrc.com may be just what you were looking for, the brain child of Paul Clarke (the creator of the site) to teach his daughter to code in a fun way, Yousrc provides the environment for young people to learn how to write code, and learn from others. Moving on to creating simple Apps, this innovative website even allows you to publish your code in the Android format (and by downloading the Yousrc app from the Android market) you can play your creations on your phone (imagine the satisfaction of your child doing that).

The Environment may seem a little confusing if you've never coded before, but all the help you need is on the left hand side of the website screen.

1. You enter the site on the "Showcase" page - you can click in any of the examples to see a finished app created by other children. Read the instructions then play.

2. I would suggest clicking on 1st steps to see the process you will go through to create an app on the website.

3. Next click on ELC tutorials to read about the key features about programming in the ELC environment.

4. You can go deeper by viewing info on the Functions and Keywords or else dive in by viewing the Examples page, where you have video featured on YouTube explaining examples of complete programs to show you the proces to go through.

As I said definitely a bit of a challenge when you first start if you've never coded, but young minds learn fast and are very hungry, there are plent of examples, and if stuck there is a help forum and if all else fails you can contact the creator via contact, so why not challenge your children today helping them into a lucrative future tomorrow visit www.yousrc.com and see if it works for you.

Snow...and it all falls down...

Hey its December 2nd

I can't believe I havent posted for three weeks ...where did the time go?

Reading too many books on the go - confusing myself about the passage of time!

A little bit of Snow and the whole country is stranded, shut down, what would happen if we had a 2 week snow storm...or even a one week snow storm...we've only had 2 days (down in the south)?

So its almost xmas, got advent calendar full of treats to open each day up to xmas - oohhh lucky me!

Creative work wise - been doing alot of good research - got some good ideas, close to starting to formulate new work - part of the Certificate 18 project, I must have mentioned.

Also just finished a 6 week poetry project with Padddington Arts at a Secondary school in NW London, came across some smart imaginative children and some with too much talk! LOL

Snow bummed out the 2nd part of a project with a school in Catford today - but will rearrange.
At least I got some extra time to create.

I see World Cup hosts for 2018 and 2022 out today - and Qatar won 2022, I know somebody who runs alot of the football program out there...ay Miss P...LOL LOL, I wonder if I can put in an order for tickets now :-)

British Museum - Next Gen

Hey people

Its been so hectic the last couple of weeks,

Been doing all sorts, the results ofwhich I will be divulging to you in the near future,
One of the activities - I was invited to the British Museum to a presentation by some teenagers that research and comment on artifacts that the museum has in its srchive. I had worked with some of the young people hence my invitation. It was very impressive to see these teenagers at work. It was all araound a program the museum does called Talking objects - watch video about some of the objects here . The presentation was rounded off by a rousing inspirational speech by British Museum Trustee Bonnie Greer, who I will be interviewing for DCosmic.com in the new year, so stay tuned.

Just completed the 'moving on up' professional development program developed by Serious. Which was excellent, the creation of this blog came as a direct consequence of my participation in the program and there are a number of things I've added into my creative and business suite out of the program. Check Serious out here.

Back in contact again folks

Apologies for the omission last week peeps,
I had expected to write, mid last week, but it didn't happen
And after that it was action actio action...

So last week I finished off my participation in the independent film "Love and Money"
It was a little chilly but still good fun. Another script for a short be coming my way soon so I keep you posted.

I realise I haven't given you "the in" where you can see some pics of some ofthe characters in the movie participating in the poster shoot for the film way back in the beginning of the year before filming of the movie took place. You can catch some pics here.

Also last week I along with some select others was fortunate to see in action and speak to in private, to the great scholar and activist that is Amiri Baraka, a write up of the experience and some great photos will go up on the www.dcosmic.com site in the "news" section next month.
I might even post one or two here.

Finally I should mention for those of you that are aware of the Fantasy Football competition that is run by the Metro newspaper for the whole football season, that this weekend my team took the number one position for the whole competiton - with over a 100, 000 teams. But there's a long way to go 29 games to be exact.

But there's nothing like being Number 1
