It can destroy self-esteem and leave a person open to teasing. In some cases, it can continue into adulthood and can be very hard to treat and get rid of. If you’ve been trying for several months to treat it at home, and your acne isn’t getting any better, then your acne may be a result of bacteria or another cause that just won’t respond to normal over the counter treatments.

Before more aggressive treatment, you must have tried topical creams or oral medication to control your acne, prescribed by your dermatologist. If those treatments have failed, Beverly Hills Aesthetics has several options to help control and treat your blemishes and breakouts.

A PhotoPeel treatment kills bacteria and other unhealthy cells within the pores. Without the bacteria, pores are less likely to become clogged and acne flare-ups are greatly reduced or eliminated altogether. The treated areas may appear red or swell and peel for several days after the procedure, but there is minimal recovery time needed before you can resume normal activities, though you should note that wearing sunblock is critical after your treatment. Over time, PhotoPeel treatments may even increase your body’s natural collagen production.

For patients who cannot control their acne with medications or creams, the ND Yag laser not only reduces the appearance of acne scars, it can also control acne that’s in its early stages. Treatment with the ND Yag laser will reduce inflammation and kill the bacteria that can lead to acne flare up’s, whiteheads, blackheads, and, in extreme cases, cysts. Continued treatments will also serve to boost collagen production.

If you have only mild acne or a condition called PIH (Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation) where your skin is marred by brown marks caused by recent inflammation, Intradermal Botox is also an option. When used in combination with either IPL or ND Yag Laser treatment, Botox can decrease inflammation and help stop future breakouts.

As we mentioned in a previous blog post, Botox can also help reduce the size of your pores by reducing your body’s natural oil production where it has been injected. A person’s natural oil production is one of the largest causes of acne and explains why the majority of acne cases occur during a person’s teenage years. Changing hormones can ramp up oil production significantly – leading to blocked pores and eventually acne. Botox helps to suspend oil production in the treatment areas and greatly reduces the amount of clogged and dirty pores that can cause acne flares.

There is hope for your troublesome acne. Dr. Assassa at Beverly Hills Aesthetics will take time during your consultation to find out what kind of breakouts you have, and determine the best treatment plan for you. Your self-esteem will stop taking a beating and you will feel more confident. Contact Dr. Assassa today and set up an appointment. Your skin will thank you.

You know the ones; gorgeous women who have flawless, nearly pore free skin. Many of us are not that lucky. Thanks to genetics, sun damage, oily skin, acne or poor exfoliation, many of us have larger, more visible pores than we would like.

Makeup can smooth some skin imperfections, but to truly refine your skin and reduce the size of your pores, it’s necessary to use a combined treatment like the program at Beverly Hills Aesthetics. No matter how much a makeup claims to give you an airbrushed, flawless look, those benefits only last as long as the cosmetics are on your skin. Laser treatments and injectable fillers can actually reduce the appearance of your pores and smooth your complexion instead of merely covering them up.

Dr. Assassa at Beverly Hills Aesthetics uses a combination of laser treatment and intradermal Botox® to close pores and tighten skin. Depending on certain factors, Beverly Hills Aesthetics will choose either the ND Yag or IPL laser for your treatment. If you have redness from Rosacea, acne marks or sun damage, for example, Dr. Assassa will generally use the IPL for your procedure. If you have loose skin or acne scars, the ND Yag laser is often the better choice. The ND Yag laser, when appropriate, tightens skin, contours the face, and helps to build natural collagen production as well.

Botox is a very effective companion to the laser treatment, and is a multi-effect treatment. Instead of being injected into facial muscles as it would be for wrinkle reduction, the Botox is focused on the small muscles that determine pore size. The injectable helps the laser to reduce pore size, but also decreases oil production in glands as well. This not only prevents the enlargement of pores from oil collecting in them, but it also helps reduce acne outbreaks. This leads to fewer blemishes and a decreased chance of scarring caused by those breakouts.

Botox treatment can also even the color and texture of skin helping to lend the face a smooth, flawless finish without relying so heavily on makeup. This reduces your dependence on cosmetic products and helps to ensure you have beautiful skin any time day or night. You can help the treatment’s results last longer by following an excellent skin care routine.

Keeping your skin scrupulously clean (yes, if you sleep in your makeup, we’re talking to you), exfoliating gently and regularly, avoiding the urge to “pick” or “pop” bumps and blackheads, getting enough rest and eating healthy can all keep your skin oil and dirt free and hydrated. This will help keep your pores at their new, less noticeable size and reduce the recurrence of treatments you need for flawless skin. Contact Dr. Assassa today to schedule a consultation.

If you read our previous blog post, you learned that there are many different causes of dark under eye circles and you probably have a good idea or at least a thought as to which one you causes your dark circles. Transparent skin, for example, can result in dark circles and under eye discoloration, but cannot be treated. It can only be covered up.

If you suffer from Hollow Eye Syndrome or puffiness under the eyes (often referred to as “bags” under your eyes), treatment and relief is possible. You will be able to treat of the discoloration under your eyes and look more refreshed and well rested.

If you haven’t determined yet what the cause of your dark circles might be, don’t worry. Dr. Assassa at Beverly Hills Aesthetics will find out in your consultation what causes the discoloration under your eyes. He will explain how the procedure works and what you can expect both during and after. He will give you all the information you need to make an informed decision on whether to treat your dark circles or not.

At Beverly Hills Aesthetics, treatment for dark circles is non-invasive and requires a shorter recovery time than with more traditional surgical treatments for bags and under eye discoloration. Juvederm injectable filler is safe and very effective. The injectable filler will smooth out the areas under your eyes where shadows lay along the hollows and depressions caused by Hollow Eye Syndrome or protruding pouches underneath your eyes.

With these indentations and hollow areas plumped up and filled with the Juvederm, there will be no more shadows and no more under eye discoloration. If you have puffiness or “bags” under your eyes, the filler will help even out the puffiness and the surrounding areas of your eyes. The smoother and more full the areas under your eyes are, the less chance you’ll see under eye discoloration appear.

Juvederm injectable filler stimulates the body’s own collagen production as you use it and not only works to temporarily plump the under eye area, but, through the boost in natural collagen, can actually lessen the depth of the depressions under your eyes and possibly lengthen the time necessary between treatments. Just imagine. No more getting up rested and looking in the mirror at a tired face. Your dark circles and discoloration will be a thing of the past.

Contact us today and schedule your consultation. You have nothing to lose but your under eye discoloration and puffiness. Let Dr. Assassa help you lose those dark circles and under eye puffiness for good.

Dark circles, puffy skin, and sunken patches can make you look perpetually stressed out and sleepy. It’s often assumed that dark circles, puffiness (or “bags under your eyes”), and Hollow Eye Syndrome are basically the same thing. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. In fact, if you have dark circles that are caused by Hollow Eye Syndrome, the treatment to lessen the discoloration can actually make your Hollow Eye Syndrome worse.

So What Is The Difference, Anyway?

You may be surprised to find out that the dark circles under your eyes can not be treated. If dark circles are caused by a natural discoloration in your skin, that cannot be changed. No miracle cream, surgical practice, or laser can correct this discoloration. On the other hand, you may find that the under eye circles you have are not discoloration at all. They may be shadows caused by Hollow Eye Syndrome. In this case, non-surgical treatment is available and very effective. If puffiness is the cause of your problem, this can be treated as well.

Dark Eyelid Color

If you have had dark circles for as long as you can remember, you probably have a condition known as Dark Eyelid Color. The skin on your lower eyelid is thinner than the rest of the skin on your face. For some people, you can see right through the skin. Since the veins and muscle that run beneath the lower eyelid skin are blue and purple, their color shows through your skin and looks like dark circles under your eyes. This is a natural occurrence, and cannot be treated. The only solution for this condition is to use a concealer.

Puffy Lower Eyelids

When you are younger, you may notice puffiness under your eyes after a late night out or too much studying and not enough rest. The condition usually fades as you get caught up on your sleep and become more refreshed. If you notice the puffy lower eyelids no matter how much rest you’ve gotten, your skin may have become less elastic and the fat under your lower eyelid is likely protruding and causing the “bags” you see under your eyes. This causes shadows to fall underneath the sagging skin and fat and results in dark circles.

Hollow Eye Syndrome

As you age, you may lose fatty tissue in certain areas of your face. This results in hollows underneath your skin. When you lose fatty tissue beneath your lower eyelid, a groove may form under your eye. Shadows fall into the depression, and you end up with darkened circles under your eyes.

Once you know the cause of your under eye circles, you can begin to treat them. You’ll look refreshed, rested, and more youthful for up to a year. Contact Beverly Hills Aesthetics for a consultation today and see how easy it can be to get rid of those pesky dark circles.

Have you ever stared longingly at pictures of Angelina Jolie and wondered how you could get the pouty, sexy mouth that genes gave her naturally? Whether you have a very thin mouth now, or just need a little help, lip enhancement is for you.

At Beverly Hills Aesthetics, we can give you lip enhancement for the luscious lips you want with very little recovery time needed. Patients have been known to schedule their appointments for their lunch hour and then go right back to work. While there may be some slight swelling for the first day or so, that should subside rather quickly. Since lip augmentation is a non-surgical procedure, there are no painful incisions that will have to heal, and bruising or other pain is rare.

During the procedure, filler is injected into your mouth to give you the sexy, full look you’re hoping for. Dr. Assassa uses his artistic flair to give you the best shape possible, and to help avoid the dreaded “trout pout” we’ve all seen on celebrities in the news and gossip columns. While this can be caused by having to go out in public before the swelling has subsided, it can also be because the person’s doctor used too much filler or didn’t properly place it along the mouth line.

As with all procedures – even non-surgical procedures – it’s important to make sure the doctor or technician handling your lip enhancement is properly trained and has experience doing the exact procedure you’re scheduled for. Don’t be afraid to open that mouth of yours and ask when you schedule your consultation. A properly trained and licensed professional should have no problem supplying you with his or her credentials and a list of references to set your mind at ease and assure you that you won’t have to walk around with the “trout pout” until the injectable fades.

If the professional hesitates to supply you with either their license or references, consider going elsewhere. The risk of a bad lip enhancement or the very real possibility of damage to the tissues of the mouth is not an acceptable risk to take. While you could end up with just a bad temporary lip enhancement, it could be much worse.

At Beverly Hills Aesthetics, Dr. Assassa has been practicing aesthetic surgery since 1995, and his state-of-the-art techniques have made him one of the leading surgeons specializing in non-invasive cosmetic surgery. He is board certified and is the president of the American Association of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery. He offers a “before and after” gallery of former patients to showcase his skill and give you samples of his expertise.

Stop wishing for a better, fuller mouth. Go get it! With little recovery time necessary and an acclaimed surgeon like Dr. Assassa available, there is really no reason to wait. Contact Beverly Hills Aesthetics today for a consultation. You’ve nothing to lose and a beautiful mouth to gain.

Our perceptions of ourselves are often colored more by what we hope to be true and what we fear to be true than by what the mirror is actually showing us. This can lead to a serious gap between what we need and what we’re actually doing for our bodies.

According to a report issued by the CDC, there are 2.4 million more obese people than there were in 2007. That’s a significant increase and seems to point to a very disturbing trend. People now are busier than they have ever been, and tend to eat very unhealthy but very convenient foods. This combined with our much more sedentary lifestyles can really cause a problem with weight – and with self-image.

Excess weight has a habit of “sneaking up” on a person. You may not even notice you’ve put on a few pounds until it becomes hard to button up your jeans. At this point, you have a choice on how to react, and it’s very easy to react poorly to excess weight. Everywhere you look, you’ll find products claiming to be just the cure you need for your excess body weight. Pills that promise you the moon are often nothing more than dangerous drugs that work by decreasing your appetite. That may work for the short term, but what then?

Weight gain may cause you to have a poor self-image, but repeated weight gain and loss are even worse for your esteem. You may start to feel a sense of success and failure that becomes a vicious, unending circle as your weight – and your confidence – rises and falls. Unrealistic diets and dangerous drugs are rarely the answer to your problems.

A healthy diet, a good exercise routine, and a less sedentary lifestyle may not lead to rapid weight loss, but it will make you healthy and strong, increase your self-esteem, and help you break bad habits – and the vicious cycle of weight gain and yo-yo dieting.

Once you reach your goals, you may find you need a little help with stubborn fat that just won’t go away no matter how healthy your routine, or that you need some skin rejuvenation to complete your physical makeover. At Beverly Hills Aesthetics, we can help with whatever finishing touches you may need to help you on the path to a greater self-image. Because no matter how beautiful you are to others, you have to believe them. Contact us for a consultation today.

Few problems are as embarrassing as excessive sweating, particularly if you’re a woman.

Few problems are as embarrassing as excessive sweating, particularly if you’re a woman. If you’re a construction worker and work outside in the heat, sweating is acceptable and even expected. If you’re a businessperson sitting in an air-conditioned office, those sweat stains on your silk shirt can make you feel awkward and out of place.

While your excessive sweating may be caused by a medical condition, it is often caused by too many sweat glands or sweat glands that over produce sweat. There are many deodorants that claim to be “clinical strength” or just like prescription antiperspirants, but they are often no help for a person with truly excessive sweating. People with this problem may feel the need to shower repeatedly, always keep their jacket on regardless of the heat, and dress in layers to attempt to stop the ugly sweat stains that are such a problem with excessive sweating.

People will also often fall for the hundreds of “miracle” cures you can find with any cursory glance on the internet. If these miracle cures really worked, why are there still so many people who suffer with excessive sweating? Because, of course they don’t work and if they do, they only work temporarily or only in certain cases.

So what’s a Person to Do?

Prescription medications and solutions often work very well, but they are only ways to manage the problem. To truly stop excessive sweating, you need to address the problem – too many or overactive sweat glands. At Beverly Hills Aesthetics, we have two treatment options to help you control this issue – and turn it into a non-problem.

Intradermal Botox is a simple injection procedure that actually blocks the chemical signals your nerves are sending out that cause excessive sweating. Results are temporary, but last up to eight months. For patients who are looking for a more permanent solution, we also offer Smart Lipo.

Smart Lipo is a laser therapy procedure that actually removes sweat glands. In contrast to more invasive surgical procedures, Smart Lipo employs small incisions instead of a large one and eliminates some of the pain and recovery time for the procedure. In fact, most patients are fully recovered within a week.

There is Hope

Regardless of the method you use, either of our procedures can help you reduce the embarrassment and annoyance caused by excessive sweating. So take off that jacket for good and quit worrying about odor and stains destroying your clothes. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Assassa today and be nearly sweat free!

Nearly every human culture has practiced hair removal for one reason or another. Reasons range from cosmetic to religious, but they all result in the same problem: determining the best way to remove that unwanted hair.

At times, it seems there are almost as many ways to remove hair as there are reasons for wanting them removed. Every time you turn around, there’s a new gadget to remove hair – often permanently. Unfortunately, most of those miracle at home hair removers don’t work at all. To truly remove hair permanently, the best choice is almost always laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal is by no means a quick fix for your hair problems as it requires multiple sessions to remove the hair, but it is unparalleled for its results and convenience.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work Exactly?

Hair grows in cycles. In fact, the hair you’re shaving today may not be from the same follicle you shaved last week. Since the hair can only be destroyed while it is in a certain phase of its growth cycle, several sessions may be required to reach full results. These sessions are usually scheduled over several months, but the actual time it takes depends on where you need the hair removed and the particular hair growth cycle for that area. Hair on the bikini line, for example, has a growth cycle of about a month, while the upper lip is about two weeks.

Once it’s determined where you need laser hair removal and what the growth cycle is, you can begin your sessions. Laser hair removal is accomplished with the destruction of hair follicles. The heat generated by the laser is just intense enough to destroy the hair follicle and some of the surrounding stem cells that can reform hair bulb cells but is of a short enough duration to avoid causing damage to the surrounding tissue.

In theory, the perfect scenario would be to destroy both the stem cells and the hair shaft. Then there would be no chance for the stem cells ever regenerating into new hair follicles and growing more hair. In reality, though, this causes sometimes severe pain, itchiness, and temporary rash like appearance to the skin. Certain ethnic patients can have critical medical reactions to that much damage.

So what’s the Compromise?

To prevent some of the pain and possible medical reactions, only the hair bulb and some of the stem cells along the hair shaft are destroyed. This greatly cuts down on the risks of laser hair removal and is still highly effective. Even if the remaining stem cells along the hair shaft were to turn into hair follicles, the hair they produce would be much finer and very slow growing.

While laser hair removal does not remove 100% of your unwanted hair, you can expect around an 80% reduction and the hair you do have left should be lighter and finer. The remaining hair often requires no removal at all. You can’t get much more convenient than that!

Patients use Botox for everything from smoothing lines and wrinkles to facial contouring. As with anything else as widely used as Botox, half truths, urban legends and myths abound about Botox and how it works, the results of using Botox, and its safety. We’re going to clear up a few of those errant beliefs today.

Myth: Botox leaves you with distorted facial expressions – you will look perpetually surprised or won’t have any expressions at all.

Truth: There is no doubt that we have all seen patients who claim to have been treated with Botox who look “wooden”, “plastic” or otherwise unnatural. Botox is not to blame for this phenomenon. What is to blame is an overdose of Botox, incorrect injection, or a combination of too many procedures performed at one time by poorly trained technicians or physicians. Always be sure to ask for about a physician’s training, experience, and references before you have any cosmetic procedure.

Myth: Botox is toxic.

Truth: This is a tricky one. Botox is a toxin – the same one that can cause you to become ill if you eat undercooked foods or food that has been improperly stored. But, since the concentration of the toxin in each injection is very small, and it is only injected in the muscle or muscle group that is being targeted, it is completely safe, and simply cannot spread to any other surrounding area.

Myth: You may become addicted to repeated injections.

Truth: There is no physical addiction possible to Botox. A psychological addiction to smoother, more youthful skin is a possibility, however, and repeated injections may be seen as some kind of dependence. In reality, Botox is a temporary fix, not a permanent removal of wrinkles, and repeat injections are necessary to maintain a younger appearance.

Myth: Botox really hurts!

Truth: Of course, everyone is different, but generally speaking, Botox injections are no more painful than a mosquito bite and rarely result in any kind of bruising or swelling at the injection site.

Myth: Botox is only used for cosmetic purposes.

Truth: Botox has been used by physicians to treat neurological disorders, facial spasms, tremors in the head and neck, movement disorders, involuntary facial movements, TMJ and even excessive sweating.

Have you had the “cellulite moment”? You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? You walk past the mirror and catch just a glimpse of the back of your thigh or your butt. And there it is – the dreaded cottage cheese effect. What do you do? Hide and weep? Chalk it up to aging or those extra two slices of pizza you had a few days before? Or do you resolve to look up the best non-invasive cosmetic surgery specialist in the business and take care of your new found cellulite?

At Beverly Hills Aesthetics, we have more than one procedure to help you control that unwanted cellulite and to make sure your body is as smooth and sleek as you want it to be. Our MesoCellulite Treatment is exclusive to Beverly Hills Aesthetics, and is the number one recommended way to reduce cellulite. Employing microinjection and lymphatic massage, this procedure safely and effectively reduces cellulite by separating the fiber strands between you fat cells. Those fibers begin to lose strength and reduce the appearance of cellulite in your affected areas.

Another choice you have for dealing with your cellulite is called Subcision and is similar to the MesoCellulite Treatment in that it seeks to cut the tension placed on the fibrous strands between your fat cells. Since cellulite is caused by this tension on these strands, Subcision is very effective in reducing the skin dimpling that accompanies cellulite. It involves inserting a specially designed needle into the tethering fiber strands and cutting them to release the tension that causes the dimpled look to your skin. It’s done under local anesthesia, and has a minimal recovery period.

If you just can’t stand the thought of needles, and the sight of a scalpel causes you to run screaming from the room, then our Celluraze™ procedure is for you. Celluraze™ takes less than 30 minutes and, depending on the stage of cellulite you’d like to treat, could take as little as 6-8 sessions to produce smooth, dimple free skin. The more advanced the stage your skin is in, the more sessions it will take, but for non-invasive cellulite treatment, you can’t beat the Celluraze™ system.

Using ultrasound waves instead of needles or knives, it is the acoustic pressure waves that break down fat and the fibrous stands that cause the orange peel effect we all dread so much. Each session consists of two stages – breaking down the fiber strands and shrinking fat tissue, and then stimulating the lymphatic channels in your body to drain toxins and destroy fat. As a bonus, Celluraze™ also stimulates collagen production and tightens your skin.

Regardless of which treatment you prefer, you can expect beautiful results and a smoother, more confident you. Maintaining a healthy near ideal weight and following a reasonable (and healthy) diet and exercise program will help you sustain those beautiful results for quite some time. Stop worrying about your cellulite. Contact us today for a consultation.
