BSNL offers free insurance coverage for its subscribers in case of :

8Accidental death

8Permanent total disability due to accident

Permanent Total Disability means:

4Loss of sight of both eyes.

4Physical separation of or loss of ability to use both hands or both feet.

4Physical separation of or loss of ability to use one hand and one foot.

4Loss of sight of one eye and physical separation of or loss or ability to use either one hand or one foot.

The insurance coverage scheme will be applicable for the subscribers of landline including WLL, Land line PCO operators & postpaid Cellular services. This scheme will not be applicable for subscribers under Government, PSU, Corporate customers, NGOs etc. Only distinctively identifiable individuals shall be benefited.

Capital sum insured per connection is Rs.50000. If a customer has four connections i.e. two landlines, one WLL & one postpaid mobile or vice versa, then total insurance coverage of that customer will be Rs.2.00 lakhs instead of Rs.50000/-.

The period of insurance will be for one year from 14th January, 2009 (starting from midnight of 13th January, 2009).

BSNL has decided to launch its Data Services on CDMA 2000 IX by using BSNL Internet Connect Card (ICC). The CDMA IX ICC will provide Internet Service @144kbps to computer users on their laptops as well as on desktops. This service will be available in all those locations wherever CDMA IX MSC based coverage is there. However, during roaming the said Internet connectivity will not work at present. The following two types of data Cards will be available for BSNL customers:

(A) Network Interface Card (NIC) : For internet speed up to 144 Kbps.

(B) EVDO Card : Internet speed up to 2.4 Mbps

bsnl evdo kerala speed review

Finally I thought of writing again about the BSNL EVDO again. I am using the EVDO for more than 2 months now . I uses the device from cochin( Kochi or Ernakulam ) or from calicut. I have taken some sceen shots to show you the speed of EVDO. I used to be online every time. So I knows the speed of EVDO of each time.

I am having 2 shifts in my office. ie I have night shifts and day shifts in my office. So after my night shift I reached home around 3:00 AM. I used to browse from 3:00 AM , dont know how much time I will spend , it depends with my mind . You all can guess how many users will be there online in the night ... You can see I have full range for the device . Though it has full range the maximum speed I got is 200 kbps . But not a static one, upto 0( Zero) kbps .

The BSNL is telling you will be getting a speed upto 2 Mbps. I have not seen a speed more than 512 kbps itself in this device from Kochi. What the hell they are bosting , I dont no .

When I reaches calicut , I have two internet connections , one this EVDO and the other my bsnl broad band land line connection. I have a home combo plan of 500 C there. The 500 C home combo plan of bsnl is a good one. I started the dataone with the starter plan of 250 per month . But it has only a upload / download of 1 GB. But the 500 C home combo plan of BSNL has a 1.5 GB transfer in day time and an unlimited night surfing from 2:00 AM to 8:00 AM. I used to browse with EVDO in the day time. The tower will be 1 or 2 . Not the 4 range will be shown . But still I got speeds upto 384 kbps and all , some what static. I may need to rethink about the EVDO whether I need to continue it or not.

The tariff plan of EVDO is 550+tax per month . I bought EVDO to use at Ernakulam . But when the speed of evdo in ernakulam is like this, then whats the use of it ? Often I got the page "The page cannot be displayed".

I remember my father's wordings. "Why do you want to buy this so urgently . Wait we can buy after some time ". As I am a web developer I can't live with out internet. Its some what killing me when there is no net . So I don't bother his words .

At the time , there was none offering an unlimited access like bsnl evdo scheme , so I bought it. In the previous post I have described my pain for buying the EVDO. But now I have seen an advertisement of Tata Indicom offering unlimited internet in the same pay . I think it will be good switching to Tata rather than EVDO for now. Tata offers roaming to other states , but EVDO doesnt offers roaming to other states for now. I will loose my 4200 for the device. Anyway it will be better to look for some more time to see whether it will works good or not ?

Bsnl Evdo Data Card Review in ALLAPUZHA

I have been hearing about it for quite some time. I was desperately hoping to lay my hands on it more than a year ago but it was still not available in the market. (So I had to buy the wireless data card from Reliance instead). Well I am talkin about the BSNL EVDO Card - the wireless data card solution from BSNL, the big momma of all telecom companies in India. Not long ago, may be a few months, I heard of its arrival in the market and a friend got hold of one. Now I have borrowed it from him and all set to try it out.

I run the installer to install the modem
drivers - takes about just a minute - and the device is ready for use. I am pleased to see that the dialer software has a cool interface. I click connect and start surfing. The pages load so fast that my jaw drops for a while! Man this is really impressive! I never expected such fast surfing speeds - almost like broadband - especially after my pathetic wireless experience before. I must say I am really impressed.
The Data Card

The USB card looks the same as the one I got from Reliance. The maufacturer is same too - ZTE. The model number is AC8700.

Speed

Siliguri: The connection is very stable and speeds are awesome. I am getting download speeds of 400-500 kbps which is just too good for wireless internet. Mind this is the speed I am getting in my medical college area where the signal is not that strong. The speed is supposed to be more. It can be upto 2.4 mbps but it depends on your the signal strength. Also you need the EVDO signal which is not available in all places I am told. So what you can do is borrow from a friend and check if you are getting EVDO connection at your locality or not.

Kolkata: The speeds are not that great. The EVDO network has not rolled out yet, except some select areas of Sector Five and Rajarhat Newtown. The CDMA 1x network gives a speed of about 100 kbps and recorded a highest of 161 kbps.

Driver

A mini CD contains the necessary drivers for Windows XP/2000. There is no bundled driver for Vista or Linux. But fret not, you can get download them from ZTE website.

Price & Tariff

The BSNL EVDO modem is available for Rs. 3500/- The monthly tariff is 550/- Now that is good value for money considering there is no download limit. Billing is post-paid.

How to buy

Go to your nearest telephone exchange and fill up a form. You need to produce some address proof. You will get the EVDO modem that day itself.

Final Word

This is the perfect product for those in the need of wireless internet connection
. There is a huge market of wireless internet which has not been efficiently tapped by any company so far. Now BSNL has come up with something really great but they suck at marketing! Hardly anyone knows about this wireless data card option. There is almost no advertising. Any other telecom company would have got a product like this endorsed by SRK perhaps! I wish this was available for sale in computer shops. Who has the time to go to the exhange always?
