This Nashville TN pop rock band may be the next hot thing to hit local radio stations. With their hit single “New Solution” that debuted in many Hollister clothing store nation wide fans have gone mad for this new fresh sound that they are offering their audience. With songs like “Time Goes By” and “Calm Inside The Storm ” they have the similar sound as the very  famous band U2 while also adding their own unique flavor .

The bands founder  Chuck Shirock was originally from Scotland and met the rest of his band members later on in life . The band sound is replicated and inspired by their famous favorite bands suck as U2 and Radiohead. In college Chuck and Pap started to record demos and play shows for small and known musicians just to jump start their career . And with a little encouragement and guidance from a Detroit producer Michael King , who produced their debut album “Everything Burns” this new pop culture band is not stopping here and they are ready to let the world see who they are .

As the week draws to its end, on Thursday April 7th (Today), the curtain will rise for the first production of RENT at the Bayonne Jewish Community Center located at 1050 Kennedy Blvd, directed by Dom J. Buccafusco The Musical Director is Kim Norton and her husband Shawn Norton is  the Vocal Director. Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer-prize winning Broadway musical based loosely on Puccini’s opera La Bohème. RENT follows a year in the lives of seven friends living the disappearing Bohemian lifestyle in New York’s East Village. AIDS and both its physical and emotional complications pervade the lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom, and Angel; Maureen deals with her chronic infidelity through performance art; her partner, Joanne, wonders if their relationship is worth the trouble; Benjamin has sold out his Bohemian ideals in exchange for a hefty income and is on the outs with his former friends; and Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, feels like an outsider to life in general, always behind the camera recording the events but never playing a part.

The characters of Roger, Joanne, and Benny are all played by BHS Alumni. The role of Mark’s Mom is played by Bayonne High School’s very own Ms. Hosmer. Lisa Kawalek, another teacher at BHS, is the Choreographer. Also, two seniors are in the show. I play Alexi Darling, Sue, and Roger’s Mom and Kevin M. is playing the role of Restaurant Man and Squeegee Man. This production of RENT is similar to the Broadway version, but we added our own little spin on things!

The show opens Thursday April 7, 2011 at 8 o’clock and will run on Saturday April 9, 2011 at 8:30 and our final performance will take place on Sunday April 10, 2011 at 3 o’clock. This is a show NOT to miss. We have worked hard in such a few short months and we have had to do a tremendous amount of work to work with what little lighting and sound we have at the center. For those who may not be familiar with the BJCC, there are 3 mics. They hang in the center stage area, and sometimes don’t work. We have to keep the band out front since we do not have any other space to put them. It works against us in a way. As for lighting, well…you can see for yourself on Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday.

On March 19, 2011 BHS Drama Society presented their spring musical comedy “All Shook Up” for one final performance at 7 p.m. Before the show started they warmed up their voices for one final time, and as a group they got each other pumped up for what they were sure would be their best show yet! Lots of tears were shed that day for the seniors that would be missed.

The cast was determined to make this final performance the best one, and it was. The show opened with a burst of energy as Lorenzo Jacobs, Chad, belted out “Jailhouse Rock” and the jailers danced as they never did before. As the show continued on it just got better and better. Whether it was Michael O’Donnell, Dennis, trying to win Natalie’s, Tara O’Donnell, love or Joe Mckevitt, Jim’s, pelvic thrusting comedy, you didn’t want the show to end. The audience burst out with laughter as Brittany Baran, Mayor Matilda, did her comedic portrayal of Sarah Palin and as Sarah Martinez, Miss. Sandra, stupidly falls in love with Ed, who is Natalie in disguise.

If you missed the opportunity to see “All Shook Up” then you really missed out on what is one of the best shows Bayonne High School has ever produced.

Since her first single ” New Day” aired on the hit reality show The Hills Tamar Kaprelian has not been shy to fame. Born in Scottsdale, Arizona she was always surrounded by music. Her debut album Sinner or a Saint  ht stands on August 24 , 2010. With songs like “Should Have Known Better” and ” Raw”, Kaprelian has put herself in the pop genre. Her sounds stands out and style corresponds with her lyrics.

She keeps the listeners captivated with meaningful lyrics like:

NewDay Sample

The Bayonne High School Marching Band Season has been over for quite some time, however the band members have not been on hiatus. In addition to weekly rehearsals and sectionals, these busy little bees were all aflutter as they worked on making their own instruments, ocarinas!

Thanks to the Band Director, Mr. Puchinsky, and the Assistant Band Director, Mrs. Mason, the band members were given the wonderful opportunity to create their very own ocarinas through a two week workshop. The process allowed for creativity to flow while learning about the process of tuning the newly made instruments. Each band member was given a handful of clay and simple instructions including “be creative.” Some students preferred to use basic shapes while others channeled their inner Michelangelo and sculptured hearts, pyramids, and even turtles!

Why ocarinas?! This question is one you may be asking yourself if you are not familiar with the Concert Band repertoire. The theme  this year is cultural music and therefore we are playing songs from around the world! Jay Chattaway’s piece Mazama was inspired by the ancient Indian legend  it calls for the use of ocarinas.

The students thoroughly enjoyed making these instruments, but they were even more excited when it came time to play. The students started by playing “Mary Had A Little Lamb,” but the room full of musicians picked up their new instruments rather quickly and were able to play more difficult tunes in no time!

The Ocarina project was a very tedious one for some because it took a great deal of time. Creating an instrument is extremely difficult work, but when aided by professionals, many of these issues disappear. The overall experience was certainly one the students will be talking about for months to come, especially when their musical masterpieces are debuted in the performance of Mazama!

In our Arts Business and Tech class we’re trying to teach kids that they need to start being artists. It’s not enough to want to be an artist – a musician – a poet. If you want it you need to do it. Since her first album Music in the Sun Rihanna swept the billboard charts. Her first single Pon De Replay was a club hit and also found its way to #1 on the billboard charts. Since then Rihanna  has not only manage to change her look several times but she has also changed her style in music. She started out with a pop mixed with reggae tone and later changed to a punk rock sound. Now with her current album LoUD Rihanna explores her music and personal sound more in depth.

With the hit song Only Girl ( In The World ) being played on major radio stations daily Rihanna  has not failed to please her fans with this current album. Songs feature rappers Nicki Minaj and Drake. She has a rage of songs from slow, California King Bed, to upbeat Cheers ( Drink to That ). The album also includes a remix to two of her hit singles including Love the Way You Lie featuring rapper Eminem.

Rihanna  has definitely put aside all of her previous personal problems with R&B singer Chris Brown and put her best foot forward with this album. Her previous album Rated R was just a sneak peek of what LoUD had to offer the world. Rihanna has struck the world again not only her fierce red hair but also with her new sound that has captivated many over the last 4 years.

In this little miserable town, where dancing and public necking is banned, segregation and forbidden love is a theme. Tomboy, Natalie Haller spends all day working in her father’s shop as a female mechanic. When rovin’ roustabout and heartthrob, Chad rides into town, Natalie falls head over heels for him. He brings excitement and life to the town that it never had. Chad however, only has eyes for the beautiful keeper of the town’s museum, Miss Sandra. Little does Natalie know, the one who’s in love with her is her nerdy best friend, Dennis. Natalie concocts a plan to make Chad open up to her. Find out what this outrageous plot is in this rip roarin’ musical with tunes you may recognize from the king himself, Elvis Presley.

The Bayonne High School Drama Club is in its final weeks of their spring musical “All Shook Up”. Rehearsals started in January with vocal rehearsals almost everyday and dance rehearsals at least two times a week. Now that there are only four weeks left (AH!) practices have gotten more intense. Staging rehearsals and more dancing rehearsals are what take up the entire week. Now that all the music is learned there will be no more music rehearsals, everything is coming together now. It is now time for everyone to step up their game and really make this show the best it can be!

When the show goes up on March 17th Papermill Playhouse will be coming to judge the show. Every year the director, Mr. Craig, puts them in a competition where they compete with 99 other schools and they can win or be nominated for awards such as best actor/actress, best ensemble, or best set design, the list goes on and on.
