Yesterday I purchased “The Brick Bible” by Brendan Powell Smith. Below is an  image of “The Brick Bible” I didn’t add any photos of the author Brendan Powell Smith but you can research him on the web. Typical Google searches of his name list him as an Atheist however I do not know much about him myself. It does appear however that he may intend to offer a new telling of the story of Jesus judging by The Brick Bible’s tagline “A new spin on the story of Jesus”

While the illustrations are visually appealing, the book is deceptive as it uses Legos to illustrate bible stories making it appear kid friendly. There are many images in “The Brick Bible” that parents definitely should view before approving “The Brick Bible” for their children. I could go on and on about The Brick Bible’s controversies but one that really got my attention was the depiction of David and Jonathan. In one image The Brick Bible depicts David and Jonathan kissing (1 Samuel 20:41). There could have been any depiction of them kissing but Brendan Powell Smith’s interpretation shows two legos kissing each others lips.  I highly advise parents to screen “The Brick Bible” before offering it to your children.

In war careless talk kills.

Unfortunately, war is not the only time when careless talk is destructive. When we speak carelessly and without thought about our brothers and sisters in Christ we play into the enemies plan to destroy the character of the saints. The bible speaks of hasty words (words without thought) and harsh words (words without compassion). These are the types of words that routinely kill the character of others and cause emotional damage that often takes years to repair. James chapter 3 describes the tongue as a fire that cannot be tamed. Let us be sure that the flames of our tongue are used to destroy the kingdom of darkness and not the very ones that are called alongside us in life to glorify and to make the Lord known in the Earth.

“There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Proverbs 12:18 ESV

“There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking.” Proverbs 29:20

 “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness…my brothers this should not be”   James 3:9-11 paraphrased.

Many of us often wish we were someone else….

We often wonder what life would be like if we were taller, or richer, or prettier…

Or maybe we just wish that…

“that one thing that happened would not have happened”

…then maybe we would like ourselves more.

The truth is we are who we are and every detail of our life gives us a uniqueness that makes us beautiful.

Our experiences, some wonderful, some painful, are all full of meaning. They create our beautiful uniqueness. And instead of hiding in a corner of insecurity we should boldly embrace who we are and be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. (2 Tim 2:1).

Wishing to be someone else is a road that will always lead to nowhere. Instead of viewing ourselves as something less than desirable we should understand that EVERYONE has shortcomings and ours are no greater than anyone else’s.

In reality the way we look, the amount of money we have in the bank etc… are all things of this earth.  And the scriptures teach us that we should set our minds on things above, not on things of the earth. (Col 3:2) I can’t tell you that the next time you look in the mirror you will never feel insecure another day in your life, but I can tell you that even with all of your insecurities and shortcomings God is still able to use you…even more, he is WAITING to use you.

Now I know that a search for identity or a need to overcome an insecurity cannot be solved in one night by reading a blog post. I do however know that prayer has helped me overcome many difficult things and I believe it is a great way to start this series. So I’ll leave you with this request – After you finish reading this find a quiet place and talk to God about whatever it is that makes you feel inadequate. Make prayer a daily practice and put all of your cares in God’s hands. You will not be disappointed

Whenever I hear of a free offer from a business or company I am often leery. In our world today almost every free offer is a cheap product given away in hopes to lure you into buying a much higher quality, and more expensive product later. “Free pens” with company logo’s etc…

But there is a beautiful difference in how God gives and the world gives.  God’s free offers are his best offers.  He freely gives away forgiveness, salvation, healing, grace and many other beautiful things that carry no price.  His free gifts are the low hanging fruit available to all.  If you or I never speak with the tongues of angels, or understand all of the mysteries of the scriptures, or move mountains with our faith we are still blessed because we have been given the best God has to offer.  Salvation, grace favor…these things are eternal.  Anything else that can be obtained is only temporary.

What a wonderful Savior…

It’s a very relaxing song that really gets me into a mood of reflection whenever I listen to it. I think the video is done excellently and the beautiful videography compliments the acoustic instruments and the rainforest sounds in the background. William’s idea to use the rainforest sounds stems from a idea he shared that:

What does the Cross mean to you?

The Cross is everywhere. You see it on almost every church steeple, it’s a common decoration at cemeteries and even makes several appearances in rap videos. The Cross has become a cultural icon that is cherished by people across the globe. But what does it really mean? Or more appropriately-What does it mean to you?

That can be a difficult question to answer if you’ve never really thought about it. I don’t know what the Cross means to you but here is what it means to me:

The Cross is what gives me the ability to be free from the fear of temporal things. The Cross doesn’t mean everything is going to be ok every time nor does  it mean that God will always move in the way that I want him to. The cross eliminates the need to fear temporary things such as death or persecution. Can you tell a mother in Africa whose children have been murdered by zealots that God is going to bless her? None of the sweetened American versions of  the Gospel work for the truly broken people across the globe. The Cross is what truly gives the gospel power.

The Cross is the only thing that offers hope to a generation that has lost it. It is the hope that I cling to. I can’t give my wife or children a guarantee that we will always be safe and comfortable, but the Cross gives me the joy that even if tragedy strikes we will all see each other one day in eternity and God will wipe away our tears.

A few days ago I can’t say that I could have answered this question with clarity. But if you asked me today what the Cross means to me I’ll tell you that:

Living in North Carolina has it’s benefits. I love to drive through the country on a cool day and look at the scenery. One of the most amazing sights to me are the Ivy covered forests. Seeing an entire landscape covered by the Ivy reminds me of what can be accomplished when one consistently and purposefully moves toward a goal no matter how slow. In it’s early stages Ivy doesn’t appear to be an imposing plant. When it first sprouts it slowly creeps along the ground and is overshadowed by the soaring trees above. However it’s might is made evident over time as it conquers the forest with it’s quiet persistence.

This type of persistence is an important virtue for any person to obtain. The Bible teaches us to “…not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9″ We should always be like the Ivy which is not intimitated by the trees that may seem too high to obtain nor the breath of the land it must travel to reach it’s goal. There are things in all of our lives that seem difficult but if we push with the same quiet strength and persistence we will eventually reach the mark that God has set for us.

Never give up, never stop trusting God. Even when things become difficult…Keep moving forward.

This is a powerful truth that’s resonated in the Bible and is made
true in our lives everyday.

When you meditate on thoughts you are essentially watering them and making them stronger. Joshua 1:8 tells us that we should meditate on God’s word consistently as well as Phillipians 1:8 which teaches us to think about things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy.

In short, thoughts are planted into our minds everyday. The good ones we should water, and the bad ones we should cast down.

I’ve been a long advocate of using social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to spread God’s message message of Love and Salvation.

I even wrote a blog post or two about it. Of course I was excited to hear that the most popular tweets on Twitter happen to be from religious leaders. So much so that Twitter’s senior executive, Claire Diaz-Ortiz, is “on a mission to bring more pastors and their ministries into the Twitter fold” (Read the article here)
Some of these christian leaders post’s are retweeted and shared 30 percent more than twitter’s superstars like Lady GaGa etc…
This just goes to show that in the end people really want to hear about hope and faith.
My message today is: Keep sharing your faith online. Keep posting messages about God’s love and mercy. People are indeed listening.

Consistent prayer gives us victory in the face of opposition.

I wanted to share this short devotional with you:

Have you ever walked through your house and wondered, “where did all of this stuff come from?!” It’s amazing how quickly a clean, orderly space can become cluttered. Ever so often, I make a point of going through my cluttered spaces and doing the necessary work to get them organized and pleasant. It always takes way too long and feels way too overwhelming! In those moments, I promise myself that going forward I’ll take care of it at the moment I see it instead of letting it get out of control. Overtime, however, small piles of litter and debris begins to accumulate, apparently “supernaturally,” making the space more chaotic and less livable. Even though I notice these small changes, I’m not motivated to deal with them—always thinking I’ll get to it before it gets out of control. Then, before I know it, it’s out of control!
In our spiritual walk, taking the time to police those corners and spaces where clutter and debris accumulate quickly is essential to a healthy, fruitful life. Putting off this process for any length of time is almost always a set up for a struggle that is not a part of God’s path for us. Admittedly, it’s easy to ignore these areas, because we want to have a place to store the trash (instead of doing the work necessary to look at it, deal with it, and get rid of it). However, if we are willing to confront the clutter at the moment it comes, it will ensure our ability to stay planted on the path that God has designed for us. Don’t let complacency take you on an unnecessary detour!!

February is a perfect time to address something like this as many people are slowing down on their new years resolutions. On our last podcast we had Dr Carter give us a great 14 day challenge to help us “clean house” for the new year. It’s been a few weeks since then, and I believe it’s safe to assume that some of us that participated in the challenge may be allowing our spiritual lives to get reconverted by some of the things we removed during the challenge.

Remember, consistency is the key to change. If we make a practice to address things as they come in our lives we will be less likely to become overwhelmed by them.

So I heard this story of a contractor that was hired to do some remodeling in a family’s home. As the contractor was working, he secretly unlocked the back door of the customers home so that he could return later that night to rob the family. This actually happens a lot. Who can we blame for this? I believe both the contractor and the homeowners are to blame. And when it comes down to it, the homeowners are ultimately responsible. I am a longtime advocate of checking the backdoor every time you lock up the house whether you have opened it that day or not. (Bear with me this will tie in Spiritually)

What this contractor knows is that the homeowner will not check the backdoor because he has not gone out the backdoor. Most people rarely use their backdoor and therefore neglect securing it. Such an easy trick for a criminal.

Just like locking up our house for the night we need to do a self evaluation on areas in our life that we think we have mastered.

The biggest error that we make when evaluating ourselves is going straight to those areas where we know we fall short. What about the areas where we think we are strong? What about the backdoor that we KNOW we secured long ago. Do we check to see if old wounds have secretly opened up again? Do we ever examine if old ideals have found a way to creep back into our lives or do we move on to other things hoping the enemy hasn’t snuck in the back door while our guard was down? How do we know that the ideas and practices we have are the best for us? Sadly some of the most important principles go over our head because we think we already have those areas conquered. If we are going to examine ourselves we must examine every area including the areas we think we have mastered. These are the areas where error often hides itself. The ultimate false security is our own intellect and experiences. We tend put put trust in thoughts and beliefs we have inherited from our fathers without ever questioning the root of those beliefs.

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.

James 1:23-25

The scripture above shows us a powerful illustration of how we are to evaluate ourselves. Both Men in the scripture did a sort of self evaluation when they looked in the mirror but had dramatically different results. This shows us that there are some methods of self evaluation that are more effective than others.

The first man is said to be like someone who looks into a mirror and sees what kind of man he is yet goes away and quickly forgets. He is compared to someone who listens to the Word of God but does not do what it says. He quickly forgot what he was like because he, after looking at himself, went his way. The other man looked intently (with strained or eager attention) into the word of God and did not forget what he has heard. When we are reading our Bibles or listening to a sermon we must reflect on ourselves using what is spoken or read instead of merely listening.

A great dating tip, Christian Dating and Relationships Post…

In our onsite college bible study at Fayetteville State University we often talk about Christian dating and relationships. Today I’d like to share one of them with you here on the site. This is a great tip that I learned in campus ministry and in life that involves a great way to examine the person you are dating to see if they are a good potential spouse.

We know that it is important to marry someone who is your friend. Only friendships will last the test of time after the hype and excitement of dating wears off. This leads us to a very important question: Does the person you are dating have any long term friends? Some people are good at making friends and bad at keeping them.  If marriage is a friendship then we need to make sure that the person we are marrying is capable of keeping friendships, and the best way to do that is to see if the person you are dating has any long term friends. If the person you are dating has a new set of friends every two years because he falls out with the old ones, can you expect him to effectively maintain his friendship with you? Having long term friends is an art. Every day there is a reason to be angry or fall out with your friends and if someone is able to look over those things then they show their ability to keep a friendship with someone for a lifetime as in a marriage.

Now this isn’t only a tip to examine those you consider potential marriage material but also a tip to put yourself in check.
Do you have a problem maintaining friendships? If so, this is something you definitely want to consider before you walk the threshold lest you become the problem in your future marriage.

Note: Please use dating advice with caution. No one is perfect and tips like this are only useful tools to help assist in making the right decisions. Don’t count someone out because they have a few flaws unless those flaws are something you refuse to live with.

“Are right buddy put your shoes on.”

“Where are we going daddy?”

“We have a lot to do today, go get your shoes and come on”

“ok”

Such a simple conversation, it’s one that I have with my little boys almost everyday. I wrote a status yesterday that said: “Spend some time around children, they’ll teach you a few things…”

What I learned yesterday when I had the above conversation is that little children understand the need to follow their parents. There is a worship song that says there are plenty of sons crying out for their fathers but not enough fathers crying out as sons. For some reason when we reach a certain age we abandon the idea of following and feel we need figure out everything on our own. We lose trust in putting our safety in anothers hands. Though we may have more responsibility and now have others depending on us we all still need direction from someone wiser, someone who knows more about whats good for us than we do. We need God, our Father. To sum it all up…

The most comforting thing that I have learned in my adult life is that when I don’t know where I am going I can just follow my Daddy.

Destiny is something we often see in the distant future yet many Bible characters stepped boldly into their destiny at a suprisingly young age….

Samuel, the Boy:

Samuel is one of the most famous prophets in history. The Bible says that the Lord didn’t allow any of his words to fall to the ground. Samuel heard the audible voice of the Lord in a time when words from the Lord were rare and visions were infrequent. Interestingly, he heard the voice of God not when he was a mighty prophet but when he was just a boy serving in the temple.

(1st Samuel 3:19, 1st Samuel 3:1)

David:

The story of David and Goliath is yet another very famous story. This was the event that brought David before the King of Israel and set David on his course of destiny Yet it didn’t happen after David was a trained warrior, David confronted the giant when he was just a young shepherd boy.

Joseph, a young slave:

Joseph was responsible for saving millions of people through the wisdom God gave him. Yet he wasn’t put into the position in the palace because of his classical training, his excellent spirit and his wisdom caught the eye of great men from the time he was just a slave.

Have you been holding back on giving your all towards what God has called you to do because you feel it is for a later time? Perhaps you are waiting until you graduate college or until you have all of the resources you need. On the contrary, this day may be your moment. Don’t miss your destiny because you are too busy waiting for it.

The Facebook Status, a powerful tool…

Several years ago in one of my last days in the Air Force a coworker of mine pulled me aside and gave me a heartfelt speech of how she had been touched through the years by my conduct in the workplace. She told me of many times when things got tough ( during the war) she would look to me and get strength. I never even knew she was watching me. That’s when I learned that people will secretly watch your conduct and draw inspiration from you.

Today, millions of people interact with each other without ever leaving the home. Facebook is now one of the most used sites on the internet. People can view our conduct even when we are not online by reading our facebook statuses and updates. This can be a powerful tool.

I use my facebook status to share who I am but also to share thoughts and expressions that have inspired me in hopes that they may inspire those who may be watching my conduct from afar. I encourage you to consider the amazing potential of your facebook status and use it to inspire others to seek God.

Relationships can end one of many ways. The other person may leave you, betray you or maybe the relationship just didn’t work out. Either way if you are the one wanting the relationship to continue, the experience can be painful.

Feeling the pain of broken relationships is something that many of us have experienced at least once in our lives. If you are reading this post and haven’t experienced this pain, I hope you never do. But for the sake of those who have and more importantly those who are feeling the pain now; I offer this simple advice…

Cry Cry and Cry some more, then move on…..

Yep that’s it. That’s my advice. It may not be the advice you were expecting but can be very powerful if you understand and embrace it. You see we are emotional beings. Yes we are spiritual but we are also emotional. Too many times do we as people ignore our feelings and brush them over because we feel that is what we are supposed to do. We often go to church or work with smiles on our faces because we are intimidated by other people who seem to have it all together. We feel that if we are strong Christians or role models we shouldn’t feel like crying our eyes out. We make ourselves feel forced to cover any weaknesses we may have with false religious speech and actions. The problem is if we don’t deal with our emotions they will deal with us later. It doesn’t matter how spiritual you are, it is o.k to cry. God gave us our emotions, they part of our nature. Our emotions are only bad if we let them control our decisions. And that’s what they’ll do if we pretend they are not there or if we try to suppress them.

If you are walking around with pain from a broken relationship and are trying to hold it in because you feel you are not supposed to cry or feel down because you are a “strong Christian” eventually the pent up pain and frustration will wear you down. It is o.k to feel sad or down if you were attached to someone and the relationship ended, trying to pretend you don’t won’t change that. If someone has hurt you; my practical advice is to buy about five boxes of kleenex, find a quiet place to pray to God about the situation. Then, if you need to, use all five boxes to cry into and when you have cried it all out…then move on. If you can learn to accept the fact that feeling sad about the situation doesn’t mean that you are weak or something is wrong with you then the situation ( or person) can no longer control you with those emotions you never dealt with otherwise.

And remember you can pray about anything!

Reviving inspiration

Inspiration, without it everything seems to become mundane and routine. With it everything is fresh exciting and new.

We all need some sort of inspiration to keep us going. Chances are you’ve felt some tug of inspiration early in your Christian walk. You may feel it now. If you are anything like me it comes and goes. Today we are studying how to keep inspiration going.

What inspires you?: Find out what inspires you and purposely keep it near you.

Look in unexpected places: If you just stick to what is popular and mainstream you may be missing some of the most beautiful things and people.

Remember where you came from: Forgetting the past is one the easiest ways to lose inspiration and purpose. Remember where God has brought you and always be thankful for it.

It made me think of this scripture:

Proverbs 5:3

For the lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey,

and her mouth is smoother than oil.

But in the end she is as bitter as poison,

as dangerous as a double-edged sword.

Her feet go down to death;

her steps lead straight to the grave….

Makes me think of how beautiful their voices are but how deadly there message is. By message I mean everything they portray, sex, lust, carnal images in videos etc…

The scriptures goes on to say:

For she cares nothing about the path to life.

She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn’t realize it.

Now of course I don’t know anything personally about these women and I’m not trying to directly point a finger at them with the scripture above. All I know is I won’t involve myself with music or videos that have such sadistic storylines.

Christian accountability is a foundation in building a strong relationship with God and with others. Whenever a public leader falls whether in politics or in Christianity,one of the main focuses on rebuilding the fallen leader is through accountability.  If we are to grow in any area of our live we must embrace this principle of accountability as well. For this post we’ll be focusing more on moral accountability or what’s commonly referred to as Christian accountability. There are a few different angles we can focus on when it comes to Christian accountability. There is of course accountability before God, accountability before others, accountability online (which could be seen also as accountability before God), Accountability versus dictatorship and many more topics. In this episode we’ll cover just a few of them Christian accountability: Accountability before God The ultimate and most effective form of Christian accountability is of course accountability before God. I have been a long advocate of public accountability before others, however this is only half of the story. If you put all of your focus on letting others help you with your temptations then you will never be a completely strong Christian. Christian accountability starts with leaning on God. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 Now this may seem painfully obvious to some of you but I am trying to bring out a specific point here. We often send up prayers to God about many things but seldom really talk to him about our shortcomings or temptations. We usually save that for our Christian accountability partners. Increase your prayer life by telling God about everything you struggle with. Tell him about your temptations, your failures…tell him everything and don’t hold back. Prayer is not about informing God it is about inviting him into your life. Without prayer you are leaving yourself to rely on your own strength which will always result in failure. Lokk at what the scriptures say about trusting in man as opposed to trusting in God: Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:5-9 If we put all of our accountability efforts in trusting others to keep us accountable we will surely fail. Our Christian brothers and sisters are a HUGE part of our Christian accountability but they are not to be used as our only source of accountability. Incorporate God today as your main source of Christian accountability. In a way “Keeping yourself accountable” seems like a contradiction in terms. Ask yourself a couple of questions like: When am I most tempted? when I am Fatigued? On boring weekends etc.. Where am I most tempted? What kind of situations do I find myself in the most trouble? You can also examine all of the past situations where you have fallen short and get a lot of insight on yourself.Knowing this information can give you valuable insight on the types of places people and situations you should avoid. Christian accountability: Accountability Partners As I mentioned earlier, Christian accountability partners are a HUGE part of our spiritual growth. We all need someone in our life that has an outside eye into our situations and relationships. This outside eye is very valuable when our emotions get tied into a decision or relationship we have made. Friend on the outside can help us make the right decisions because they can see the true situation without their judgment being clouded by their emotions. When it comes to Christian accountability partners trust is the main key. So many of us have been hurt so many times that trusting others with life decisions can be very difficult. Here is one thing I’ll share about trust… Don’t feel guilty about not trusting some people: Not trusting is not always a bad thing. If someone has proven themselves untrustworthy or has proven themselves to be trustworthy then don’t feel guilty for not trusting them. Trusting the wrong person can be dangerous. Christian accountability can’t work if you are accountable to the wrong people. Find people that God has placed in your life that have a proven track record. You should have a team of people as opposed to a single accountability partner. Proverbs 24:6 reads:  There is safety in the multitude of counselors. Some of your Christian accountability partners will be gifted in certain areas and weaker in some. Take some time and think about the people you go to for counsel. Do they have the ability to help you with some of your greatest struggles. Are they trustworthy enough to share some of your private struggles with? I learned this when I was deployed to Saudi Arabia as a part of the United States Air Force. Could I get away with whatever I wanted now?  These are the crazy thoughts that can float through your head when you don’t hold yourself publicly accountable. O’ROURKE If you are on campus or at work and no one knows you are a christian you should fix this situation. Let everyone know so that you will be held publicly accountable because as we all know, the world is looking for opportunities to point the finger at Christians. Knowing that people are watching us helps us to keep ourselves in check. Christian accountability: Internet Accountability The internet has become a major stumbling block for many Christians. The freedom to view whatever you want whenever you want in the privacy of your own home or dorm has caused many Christians to fall. To our benefit many Christian accountability groups that offer software available to protect ourselves from ourselves. For a small fee you could purchase a software that bans certain content from being viewed on your computer. I won’t go too far into this topic but if you are interested I will post a link to some software on the links page. Christian accountability: Accountability versus dictatorship Now after writing on the topic of  accountability I’d like to clear a few things up. Having Christian accountability partners doesn’t mean you can’t make decisions for your self and it definitely doesn’t mean you need people to rule over your every move. Make your own decisions but weigh them against counsel from others. Most successful  people have some sort of advisers in their life. If you want to grow your business you need a consultant. If you want better grades you get a tutor. If you want to excel in sports you get a personal coach. If you want to grow spiritually you get some accountability partners. Pray about this today. Because of the recent interest on this topic and the massive amount of Christians looking for answers; I have been motivated to provide some insight on the subject.As a Christian college ministry and student ministry I have personally seen how much music influences our day to day lives. Well of course I can’t confirm whether or not any of these artists are involved in the occult but I do know that Satan has used popular figures to influence people for generations. Heavy metal and satanism have worked together for a while. But what about satanism in other genres? These days, satanism has reared it’s head in almost every form of music.  Today I’d like to share the top 3 reasons why satan uses Music to influence people.

So, there is a lot of talk going around that secular music artists Rihanna, Jay-Z, Lady GaGa, Beyonce and some others are all tied into a secret satanic cult religion and have been pumping secret messages into their music and videos. I’ve mentioned some of their antics in a post here and hinted about it here. It’s no surprise to me that there is a satanic force behind some of today’s popular music.  Today I want to spend a little time answering the question on why would anyone even care enough to put secret satanic messages in a music video or song. What’s in it for them? Well Here is my explanation.

There is an enemy behind the scenes…

We call him Satan and he has been working behind the scenes for many generations. Industry executives and musicians like Rihanna or Jay-Z  allow themselves to be used by Satan. Remember in the garden when he used the serpent to deceive Adam and Eve? Or consider the less popular scripture in Ezekiel when Satan works behind the scenes through the prince of Tyre? Let’s go into both of these briefly.

The Serpent…

The story of the serpent being used by Satan is not unfamiliar to anyone who has a Christian background. What’s often not covered is one small detail in the story. It is the part about the serpent being the wisest of all the creatures. You see, Satan (or demons) will use anyone that allows him the opportunity but It is his plan to use people that will be most effective for him. That’s why he used the serpent; because he was wise. It was much easier to deceive Adam and Eve by using a wise creature. For this same reason he chooses to use some of societies most talented and gifted people. He doesn’t have all of the talented and gifted people (Not by far) but they are his preference. Today he goes after popular musicians and music because they are the most capable at manipulating the masses. Satan takes the most cleverly gifted musicians and some of the most beautiful singers to make his mission easier. As we are enamored by their physical beauty or the amazing music he is pumping his Satanic Anti-God Message into our hearts. And we wonder why it is so difficult for us to break free of some of our addictions.

Think about it, If you wanted to sway the minds of the masses what medium would you use? The history channel? I don’t think so. You would use the people that the masses adore. That is where individuals like Beyonce Jay-Z Rihanna Lady GaGa and the like come in.

The King of Tyre…

In Ezekiel 28:1-19 the Bible makes a clear example of Satan working behind the scenes In the former scripture the prince of Tyre is rebuked by God in two very different respects. In 1-10 he is referred to as an  prince who will be destroyed because of his arrogance. In 11-19 he is reffered to as something else. Look at how he is described:

You were in Eden, the garden of God…

^…14You were an anointed guardian cherub.
I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of God;
in the midst of the stones of fire you walked...
…O guardian cherub,
from the midst of the stones of fire.

When was the human prince of Tyre ever in the Garden of Eden or an anointed cherub on the mountain of God? He wasn’t. This is yet another example of Satan working behind the scenes in the life of an influential person.

What does this all mean to you and me?

Read the quote below.

“Most of us listen to music constantly. It is playing in the car, at work in the grocery store, virtually everywhere we go. To the average person music is rarely looked at as a tool that the enemy uses to defeat us. Often we just find music that sounds good to us and blindly accept it into our lives. Music is one of the most dangerous and effective weapons that Satan uses against us.  Satan has not created music; on the contrary, he is incapable of creating anything. He takes things that God has created, perverts it and hands them to us on a silver platter hoping we will accept them and not notice the perversion. And sadly we often do not. What we have to pay attention to in the music we listen to is the message in the songs that is being pumped into our minds. Satan knows you will not sit down with him for a daily treatment of anti God propaganda so he takes his messages, puts some nice music behind it and we accept it”

By listening to the ungodly message in some popular music we are making Satan’s job easier in trying to separate us all from God

The scriptures tell us that God will surround us with songs of deliverance. Songs like Rihanna’s Russian roulette or any of the images in Beyonce’s or Lady GaGa’s videos and concerts hardly can hardly be constituted as “deliverance” If anything they bind us to the worlds standards. Images like the one above taken at a Rihanna concert are the types of images that are making it difficult for our generation to break free from porn and lust addictions. Do you agree? I don’t think it’s helping anyone get closer to God. Images like this as well as ungodly lyrics are being pumped into the minds of millions. Will you allow them to be pumped into yours? Though our ministry is mainly focused on teaching college students how to stay pure on campus; allow me to share something that has been on my heart for a while now. A few weeks ago I wrote a small ebook on the topic and haven’t been able to get my mind off it. It seems that everywhere I go I hear stories of “ordinary” people who have done amazing things in this world by merely stepping out on faith in God.

Students, you are so much more than just young people studying to get a degree so that you can land a great job one day. You have a dream inside you that the world needs to see. You may be the very person to start a revival in your city or be a catalyst for change in this generation. Just take a look throughout history and you’ll learn that the world’s greatest reformers and influencers were often people from everyday situations. Take a look at this list of Bible characters and where they came from:

Gideon: The lowest member of the weakest family in Israel; a farmer

Gideons accomplishments: Destroyed the nations idols and altars and led the nation to victory in war against their enemies.

Peter: An uneducated fisherman

Peter’s accomplishments: A disciple of Jesus Christ- Led a revival of the gentiles and helped changed the world forever.

Elisha: A farmer

Elisha’s accomplishments: Became one of Israel’s most famous   prophets

Hebrew midwives(exodus 1): Hebrew slaves, only job was to deliver babies.

Their accomplishments: Hindered a major genocide just by obeying God.

The list can go on and on and on….

My point is that nearly every great person in history comes from everyday situations like yours and mine. Don’t wait for a magic moment where someone comes and bestows you with all of the resources you’ll ever need to accomplish your dream. Step out on faith and do what you know God has put on your heart.

As I was reading my Bible tonight I came across a scripture that I believe is critical when studying on this topic. Here it is:

And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

Matthew 8:20;Luke 9:58

As I read this I am amazed that there were times in Jesus’s ministry where he had nowhere to lay his head. (Just because you do not have everything laying out for you to accomplish your dream does not mean that your dream is not from God.) Jesus was a trained carpenter. He could have been somewhere making money in his trade rather than ministering to people in places where there was no provision for him. On the contrary, Jesus knew his life was more than carpentry and likewise your life is more than your job or the job you are in school to learn.

Of course I’m using hands only as a symbol to represent the state of our life as far as sin is concerned.

Listen in to today’s message on the single most important thing.

Scriptures:

Who may ascend the hill of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to an idol
or swear by what is false.
He will receive blessing from the Lord
and vindication from God his Savior.
Psalm 24: 3-6

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Job Chapter 1

Ok so…lets get into some background of a character we used to teach about frequently on campuses. This Character’s name is Baphomet and he is a demonic figure worshiped in occult organizations. He is a Satanic figure often reffered to by Satanists and in Satanic material.

The strange thing is he seems to show up in places you would never expect like on Beyonce’s body (Below):

Or on  Lady GaGa’s head (below):

Or on the figure of Rihanna posing in the center of a triangle (below)

Why does he keep showing up with these different artists. Why is there a constant running theme here?

I hope these images help you to see that there is a very ungodly force behind much of todays popular music.

There is a definite  strategy  for the occult images and lyrics found in this music. Satan (through the people who allow him to use them) is using these artist to push his agenda. While we bow our heads to the music and gawk at the women in the videos we are subjecting ourselves to satanic undertones which are constantly running in the images and lyrics: fornication, lust, violence, suicide(see rihannas lyrics on her song Russian Roulette) and more…

I could go on and on with examples but I will save many of them for a podcast episode which I will record soon.

I urge you to take some serious thought about the music you choose to listen to. We do have an enemy that wishes to rob us of what God has planned for us. He uses music to push his Satanic agenda because that is what entices us. Click here to read more on this topic

I must apologize we have been very busy lately preparing for the Heartbeat for Worship Celebration. This event grows every year and the intense amount of time I have been spending on it has kept me from recording any episodes recently.  We are currently working on a podcast dealing with temptation. Be on the lookout for that soon.

I have however sent all of the email subscribers a recording of an evangelism seminar that Will and I did down in S.C. We were honored to have been invited down to the CCFM conference 2009 to do a class on evangelism for about seventy youth from churches across the country. The session was great. This study is one that has really changed my outlook on the scriptures that pertain to seeking God. Diligence is one of those words that is easy to look over when we read our Bible. I know that’s not quite as sensational as who wants to be a millionaire but it is much more important. We have many millionaires around but few faithful men.

This episode is one that all men should listen to BEFORE they marry. And if you are married it will bring some very important reminders. Don’t worry ladies, you’ll get something out of this as well. It’s based around proverbs 20:6 which reads “A faithful man who can find.” So many men are searching for a virtuous woman but aren’t spending much time learning how to be a faithful man. With all of the infidelity and fallen ministers in RECENT news, we as Christian men really need to take a break from telling women they need to be virtuous and look at ourselves in the mirror for a minute or two. The first thing we needed- a mobile recording device:

We are always on the go ministering to students and coming up with topics to discuss for the podcast. Unfortunately we weren’t always able to record some of the sessions we have done due to the lack of mobile recording equipment. Recently through your donations we were able to purchase a high quality digital voice recorder so that not only would we be able to make all of our sessions available to you but that we would be able to upload them in a sound quality that is bearable to listen to.  That is a picture of the recorder on the left. ( I know what you’re thinking… I should have been a hand model)

We will use this recorder to record sessions as well as interviews for the podcast.

The second thing we needed- a new web host.

Also you may have noticed the site looks a little different than it did a month ago. We were have tons of problems with our site. Episodes were vanishing and so on. Just when I was about to panic we received a donation that made it very easy to resolve the problem by purchasing a new and more stable hosting plan somewhere else.

Your donations have helped us purchase these two essential things and I have written all of this to say thank you very much for your generosity. I will leave a donation button below for anyone who has read this would like to support us as well.

Something tells me you shouldn’t drive here.

…something also tells me people still do.

Isn’t that what we do in our lives; take chances with things that we know are bad for us? Since we have been doing podcasts and Bible studies on dating and relationships I have been spending a lot of time wondering why people fall into the same traps over and over. I have been there, expecting things to change yet still making the same choices. You see we all have our own set of blinders that keeps us from growing in certain areas. Often it is our best thinking that has gotten us into so many bad situations and yet we try to go it alone when trying to reverse the cycle.

The scriptures say that in the multitude of counselors there is safety. (pr11:14) We all need other people who can help us get past our own blinders. Entreprenuers and business people openly embrace his concept. They often refer to them as mastermind or focus groups. It is in our own personal lives where we fail to implement this principle. Shame and pride often get in our way of opening up to others about our failures. Hence we bind ourselves to a cycle of bad choices: A cycle of bad relationships, rollercoaster christianity and so forth.
I encourage you today to spend some quiet time thinking about the people in your life who can help you get past your own blinders. They are there, you just need to recognize them

Will and I had a wonderful opportunity to sit and talk with Sis Penny a Christian woman who was delivered from an 18 year life of homosexuality. Sis Penny share some great insights on her testimony and what she has learned as she came out of this lifestyle.It seems popular to share testimonies of drug addiction, sex addiction anger problems etc but unfortunately ministers are not always open about coming out of same gender attraction lifestyles. The result of this is the lack of ministry help for others who are dealing with unwanted same sex attraction. If you deal with homosexual attraction or have a loved one who does or just want to learn more, tune in to today’s episode.
