exercise together in humans on measures of substrate oxidation and energy &lt;br /&gt;
expenditure,”&lt;/i&gt; wrote the researchers, led by Stuart Phillips. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
None of the apparent beneficial effects on energy use were carried over to &lt;br /&gt;
the exercising state, although this may be due to the exercise regime being too &lt;br /&gt;
intense, said the researchers. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;i&gt;“Further studies are needed to assess this, possibly implementing an &lt;br /&gt;
exercise regimen that more closely mimics daily routines of the general North &lt;br /&gt;
American population, i.e. activity that is less strenuous and shorter,”&lt;/i&gt; they &lt;br /&gt;
stated. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

I've been busy homeschooling our daughter, it's her Senior year. Working on my Doctorate has been a challenge this school year, but hope to finish by Spring of 2011. Our family has been dealing with my husband's health challenges and making the necessary changes to prepare for the time he can no longer work. It has been a stressful time for all involved.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I know it has been a very long time since my last post, I hope to remedy that situation and post on a more frequent basis. It is important to have a creative outlet, especially during stressful periods in life. Unfortunately, during the times when you need to be at your best; stress creates havoc on your body. Headaches, muscle aches, upset stomach, lowers your immune systems ability to fight of illness, and a whole host of other unwelcome issues. Be sure to create time for yourself, eat healthy, take supplements, get some exercise and enough rest; so that you can be the best caretaker of your family.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Seek outside help, if you can, and put a plan in place for the future. End the breakfast food myth. Stop letting the first meal of your day slow you down! Most foods and beverages people choose for the first meal of the day promote high levels of acidity, yeast, and fungi growth in the body. Foods like breakfast cereals, sweet rolls, toast, pancakes, waffles, muffins, oatmeal, maple syrup, honey, coffee, orange juice, etc. contain huge amounts of sugars and simple carbohydrates which over-acidify the blood and tissues. As you over-acidify the blood and tissues, you create a terrain that promotes the growth of bacteria, yeast, and fungus, the great decomposers of cells and tissues in the human body. What a way to start the day!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Traditional high-protein breakfast foods like eggs, sausage, bacon, steak, and omelets also are highly acidifying and compromise the inner terrain. Meats are also high in parasite levels, particularly pork! Therefore, when you make a commitment to balance your eating habits and improve your health, breakfast in particular, takes on a new look. When you start your day, your choices for breakfast would also work well for lunch or even dinner. Any food you choose to start the day with should be good for your body at any time of the day.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;For example, try lentil or vegetable soups for breakfast. The Japanese and many other cultures have served soups for breakfast for years rather than the sugary continental American and European foods. A favorite breakfast for many people new to the Alkalarian diet is millet or brown basmati rice with fresh avocado and tomato slices, soaked almonds, sunflower sprouts and flax oil. What a delightful way to start the day! And your pancreas will thank you as it finds it much easier to control blood sugar levels. Add some Super Soy Sprout powder for additional protein. One of my favorite breakfasts is to stir fry every vegetable that I can find in coconut oil. I add a handful of soaked raw almonds and when the veggies are ready I put them on top of a plate of sprouted buckwheat groats. That will fill you up and stick with you and yet you’ll be able to do whatever you desire without feeling bloated.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Go for the greens. Add liberal amounts of dark green and yellow vegetables and grasses from a variety of sources. Fresh vegetables and grasses are an excellent source of the alkaline salts that are anti-yeast, anti-fungal, and anti-mycotoxic. Green foods are some of the lowest calorie, lowest sugar, and most nutrient rich foods on the planet!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Fresh juiced, green vegetables are very cleansing and loaded with fiber. Fruits may be eaten as a snack between meals, especially when the fruit is in season.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Less carbohydrates, more vegetables. Feature in your diet low carbohydrate vegetables, legumes and some grains. Complex carbohydrates are highly acid forming in the body and should not exceed 20% of the diet, so eat them in moderation. Good low carbohydrate vegetables include asparagus, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, green peppers, spinach, kale, lettuce (avoid ice berg lettuce), okra, onions, garlic, parsley, radishes, and squash. Red new potatoes are the best choice in the potato family and should be used sparingly. Enjoy eating fresh legumes. Stored beans can become moldy and contain mycotoxins. Starchy grains and legumes may become moldy when stored and contain fungus, so eat them fresh. Eat fresh, preferably sprouted organic grains in moderation. Some of the ancient grains like amaranth, spelt, quinoa, buckwheat and millet are more alkalizing choices. About 80% of all meals should be fresh, raw, alkalizing foods. (If you only start out with 50% you are still doing much better than the average American!)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;The hotter and drier the environment, the more alkaline foods should be eaten because these foods have a cooling effect on us and digest quickly. Therefore, person living in a very hot, dry desert climate will do much better on an alkalizing diet of 90% alkaline foods. The colder and wetter climates allow people to use the slower digesting acid forming foods. The sprouted grains used in Essene bread are a good example because they digest slower and heat the body.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Eat lots of sprouts. Some of the best foods to eat are sprouts. Sprouted seeds become more alkaline as they grow. They are live plant foods that are biogenic, which means that they transfer their life energy to us. Sprouts contain every mineral, vitamin and enzyme needed to sustain the body and assist the digestion process. Sprouts can easily be grown in your kitchen during any season, or purchased at the market. Be sure to check the bottom for brown or soggy stems because sprouts should only be eaten when fresh. Rinse them with pure water before eating them and rinse the live growing plants daily with fresh water.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Remember that sprouts will take on what ever you rinse them in because they absorb the qualities and nutrients of the water they are rinsed and soaked in. When you rinse in chlorinated water, they pick up the chlorine. Some commercial sprouts are not raised in the best of conditions, so check out the source or better yet, grow your own!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Increase your alkali-forming foods, eat less acid-forming foods. Good alkai forming foods include fresh sprouts, spinach, kale, swish chard, avacados, lemons, limes, cucumbers, celery, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, asparagus, green beans, eggplant, broccoli, fresh tomatoes, zucchini, green/red/yellow peppers, onions, okra, garlic, parsley, watercress, cabbage, squashes, soy beans (tofu), garbanzo beans, raw almonds, Brazil nuts, hazel nuts, sesame seeds, flax seed, sprouted grains and legumes. Green juices from all green vegetables and their tops are highly alkaline, as are vegetable broths (make sure they are yeast free and preservative free).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Acid forming foods you should avoid are all animal products, which include meat and dairy products, refined grains and yeast products, and eggs. All packaged foods tend to be more acid forming.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Feature proteins such as broccoli, spinach, sprouts, garbanzo beans, tofu, buckwheat and nuts.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;What about protein? Animal protein foods provide more protein than required by the human body. Our bodies are only 7% protein. In contrast to cow’s milk, which is protein rich at 37%, mother’s milk is only 5% protein. Just consider the difference in the growth rate of a baby calf verses a baby human and you’ll quickly understand why they are so different. Excessive proteins often contribute to health challenges because they produce excessive acid wastes and often contain excessive amounts of saturated fats as well.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Drink plenty of alkaline water. Ideally one will drink ½ ounce of water per pound of body weight per day of good, structured water. &lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Is this just a coincidence? There is a direct connection between the quality and content of the water in our body and how the body responds to disease and ageing. The brain is 83% water, the kidneys are 82% water, the lung is 80% water, the heart 79% water, the bones 22% water and the blood 90% water! Researchers share that the body at death has only a 50% hydration level so let’s increase our water levels and live longer and healthier!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Eliminate bakers or brewers yeast and all yeast-containing foods. You should especially avoid baked goods such as bread, muffins, pies, cakes and pastries. In America, one out of nine women will develop breast cancer. The Japanese have a much lower rate of this form of cancer—and research links it with the ingestion of baked goods with bakers or brewers yeast. Researchers also clearly link diets containing these foods with gall stones, kidney stones and arthritis. Bread containing white yeast has also been linked to colon toxicity, slowing down the elimination process. Are you constipated? If so get the white, dead yeast bread out of your diet!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;Eliminate milk, ice cream, and especially cheese. These should not be eaten because of their lactose (milk sugar) content, high protein content, and the presence of yeast and fungus, molds and mycotoxins. There are approximately 12 grams of lactose in every 8 ounces of milk that can break down into sugars that can feed yeast and fungus. Because of the high sugar and fat content of dairy products, the fact that dairy cows are stored grains and fungal-based antibiotics, and the fermentation process of cheese and yogurt, all dairy products should be eventually eliminated from the diet. Some alternatives are soy, almond or rice milk, spinach, collards, broccoli, okra, salmon and tofu.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;What about calcium? If milk products are eliminated, where should one turn for their calcium needs? Many worry that eating an alkaline diet would seriously deplete one’s calcium intake, which is vital for so many functions of the body. All leafy, green vegetables and grasses are inherently high in calcium. We also need to understand that calcium can be pulled from the bones to help neutralize an over-acid condition which is caused when animal products are eaten; thus we see that people are suffering from a calcium-robbing problem rather than a calcium deficiency problem. At the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's annual event, the British Pharmaceutical Conference in Manchester, Mr Vaibhav Shinde from Poona Collage of Pharmacy, Pune, India, presented results of studies on the varieties Ocimum tenuiflorum Linn and Ocimum americanum Linn, which are used in Ayurvedic treatment of &lt;a title="What Is Bronchitis? Dr Rowena Jenkins and colleagues from the University of Wales Institute - Cardiff investigated the mechanisms of manuka honey action and found that its anti-bacterial properties were not due solely to the sugars present in the honey.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The work was presented this week (7-10 September), at the Society for General Microbiology's meeting at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Meticillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (&lt;a title="What is MRSA? Why is MRSA a Concern? How is MRSA Treated?" href="http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/10634.php"&gt;MRSA&lt;/a&gt;) was grown in the laboratory and treated with and without manuka honey for four hours. The experiment was repeated with sugar syrup to determine if the effects seen were due to sugar content in honey alone. The bacterial cells were then broken and the proteins isolated and separated on a system that displayed each protein as an individual spot. Many fewer proteins were seen from the manuka honey-treated MRSA cells and one particular protein, FabI, seemed to be completely missing. FabI is a protein that is needed for fatty acid biosynthesis. This essential process supplies the bacteria with precursors for important cellular components such as lipopolysaccarides and its cell wall. The absence of these proteins in honey-treated cells could help explain the mode of action of manuka honey in killing MRSA.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Manuka and other honeys have been known to have wound healing and anti-bacterial properties for some time," said Dr Jenkins, "But the way in which they act is still not known. That's what I have done over the past few weeks. I'm not very pleased with myself, I'm usually a very positive and focused individual. But, I let some situations get me down and I took my eyes of off my goals &amp;amp; dreams.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I started thinking negative thoughts, eating junk food, not exercising, etc. Now, I have to pay the consequences for my actions with lost time, weight gained, loss of muscle tone and correcting bad eating habits.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So now the hard work begins! Regain control!!! Press forward toward those things that are important in my life. I've clean out the pantry and fridge of all junk foods, written a list of clean eating foods to purchase, set-up a new workout schedule, re-evaluated my goals for my relationships - God, family, friends, business; reset bounderies that have been overstepped, and most of all put my trust in God to help me through each situation in my life and not let the challenge determine my attitude.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I challenge all of you to reaffirm those goals and dreams that you have let slip past you. What a crazy few months! Ever have so much to do that you can't remember what day it is, that's what its been like around here. Trying to meet everyone's expectations, but not taking enough time to care for yourself.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I've been busy with driving lessons for our 15yr old daughter, working on my Doctorate courses, helping my husband with his business, volunteering, church, caring for my husband's health needs, nursing a broken wrist...well you get the idea! I needed to give myself a break, and realize I can't do it all!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So hopefully, I can keep the blog updated, care for the needs of others, schedule time for myself, and stay healthy. If something falls through the cracks, I'll just keep going and not beat myself up....it's not about being perfect, it's about being healthy, focusing on my relationships, not over scheduling myself and learning to say "NO" when I can't take on another project.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Along with a new mindset on priorities, comes a renewed commitment to taking care of myself! Getting enough rest, eating clean, taking my supplements, getting enough exercise, taking time to relax and communicating my needs to others.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Don't be too hard on yourself, we all fall in the trap of being "Everything to Everybody," but it not healthy! Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Also, Salt: (Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.)&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ff0000;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ff0000;"&gt;b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ff0000;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ff0000;"&gt;c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ff0000;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ff0000;"&gt;d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment.. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to no urish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ff0000;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color:#ff0000;"&gt;e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;14. Using artificial sweeteners and avoiding natural sugars.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;7. Showering every day, but never bathing (take a bath). &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;8. Swimming in chlorinated pools (and drinking and showering with chlorinated water). &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;9. Not breast feeding your baby. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;10. Getting tattoos. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;11. Getting all of your immunization shots.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;12. Traveling in airplanes often. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;13. Exposing yourself often to electromagnetic energy. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;14. Using a lot of skin care products, cosmetics, hair care products, nail care products, shampoos, soaps, perfumes, shaving cream, suntan lotion, and antibacterial soaps. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;15. Having one of the highest standards of living has resulted in a nation with the greatest rates of heart attacks and cancer. Due to medical care, people are living longer, but seniors are taking an average of eight to twelve prescription drugs daily for multiple, health problems. We have prolonged life, which tragically often translates into prolonged suffering. Until recently, modern medicine has ignored diet as a preventive measure against disease. Did you ever stop and wonder why?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:times new roman;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;About 90 years ago, there were two men, Pasteur and Beachamp, who were at the forefront in their fields of science. Two men who would forever define our understanding of health and medicine in very distinct ways. Pasteur believed that we lived in a hostile environment where disease was always trying to invade our bodies in the form of harmful bacteria. Pasteur’s attitude towards sickness was to protect the body from these harmful bacteria.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In contrast, Beachamp believed that a healthy body would be immune to harmful bacteria. Only when the cells became weak and sick did bacteria have a destructive effect on the body. But Pasteur insisted that healthy tissue is sterile of bacteria. Beachamp disagreed. He discovered that healthy tissue was constantly being exposed to bacteria but as the body started to deteriorate, the bacteria changed due to alterations in the cell's bio-chemistry.&lt;br /&gt;Beauchamp’s and Pasteur's research seemed in conflict. In the end, Pasture's theory was adopted and Beachamp's was ignored. This resulted in a prejudice towards preventative treatment of disease that is still present today in our medical communities.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When cells are healthy and vibrant, the immune system is effective in fighting and controlling bacteria. However, through poor eating habits, cells become weak and sick, and harmful bacteria are able to multiply. Beauchamp’s and Pasteur's theories are equally important for a healthy life. Unfortunately, medications for killing bacteria had become a large industry. It is convenient to have germs to blame rather than being responsible for one’s eating habits.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For example, candida is a bacteria that exist in two forms. The form, usually found in the intestine, is harmless and does not migrate to other tissues. In the event of the colon becoming toxic, candida changes into its fungal form. It then penetrates the intestine wall and infiltrates other body tissues, causing a multitude of metabolic disturbances.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Beachamp discovered that germs are opportunists, waiting for the right conditions. Otherwise most are harmless to the body. Bacteria are in the air that we breathe, the water that we drink and the food that we eat. For the majority of the time, bacteria do not affect the body. The stomach secretes hydrochloric acid to kill harmful bacteria. The large intestine has beneficial lactic acid-secreting bacteria which fend off harmful bacteria. However, when the body is not being fed correctly, harmful bacteria are able to multiply.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Medicines powerfully adjust the body's metabolism in an attempt to stimulate healing. The symptoms can disappear, but the cause of the imbalance is ignored which is mostly an impoverished diet. The effect lasts only for so long until the imbalance sets off a new set of symptoms. If you are tired, stressed out, and living on junk food, the immune system, your God-given defense system, will break down. Medicine may keep you breathing, but will not supply the vibrant zeal of life so few experience.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Antibodies travel throughout the blood and lymph to identify foreign molecules, and guide the body's vast defense system. They latch onto and neutralize foreign invaders, even coating microbes to make them palatable for the scavenger cells. Antibodies respond swiftly to toxins and enable us to fight and resist infections. The immune system has the unimaginable ability of creating 1,920,000 different types of antibody constructions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Experiments have shown that white blood cells, called lymphocytes, can attack cancer cells and hold them in check. Our immune system is a powerful mechanism. One B lymphocyte can pump out more than 10 million antibody molecules an hour.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Compared with a lymphocyte, modern medicine is like using a sledge hammer to kill a fly. For instance, nitroglycerine is prescribed to relieve chest pains. This explosive drug works to relieve the pain but does nothing to improve the disease.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Our hospitals are far from being a haven of healing. More than one out of twenty hospital deaths occur due to an adverse drug reaction. If you break an arm or a leg, medical technology is helpful. But, when it comes to internally adjusting the intricate working of the human body, most times, medicines fail.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Medical cures are not a solution to disease. We need to take personal responsibility in how and what we eat. Sickness resulting from neglect and a foolish diet is not God’s will. God has gone to such great trouble in creating the human body with the capacity for good health and vibrancy. He has created foods which, in their natural state, are full of life-giving properties.
