PLATEADA. Puedes sacar libros a domicilio y películas, pero además obtienes 4 boletos gratis para la cinemateca del Teatro Santa Ana. Disfruta del buen cine de arte en comodos espacios. Costo $200 pesos

DORADA. Además de los privilegios de tu membresía regular obtienes 8 boletos gratis para la cinemateca del Teatro Santa Ana y 1 boleto para el Tour a Casas y Jardines.

Costo $500 pesos.

PLATINUM. Obtienes un 10% de descuento válido por un año, en el consumo en el Café Santa Ana, 10% de descuento en La Tienda de la Biblioteca, en artículos que no están bajo consignación, así como 2 boletos para el Tour a Casas y Jardines. Costo $1 000 pesos.

BRONCE. Es la membresia regular con la cual puedes sacar libros a préstamo. Costo $80 pesos

Dejar un deposito de $100 pesos, esto para seguridad de los libros, este depósito se le devolverá cuando vaya a dejar la ciudad y su cuenta este limpia sin adeudo de libros.

El trámite de las membresías se realiza en la Recepción de la entrada principal en horario de 10am a 7 pm, de lunes a viernes, sábado de 10 am a 2 pm.

Platinum Level: Cost $1000 pesos

Includes library borrowing privileges for one year plus 1 year Platinum card for 10% discount in the Biblioteca Cafe Santa Ana, 10% discount off of non consignment items in La Tienda, the Biblioteca gift store, and 2 House and Garden tickets. The Platinum membership offers a value of $1500 pesos for only $1000 pesos based on buying 1 coffee a day, plus 1 lunch a week and shopping in Tienda.

Gold Level: Cost $500 pesos

Includes library borrowing privileges for one year plus 8 movies tickets for Teatro Santa Ana and one House and Garden Ticket. The Gold Membership offers a value of $760 for only $500. (8 Movie tickets equals $480 pesos + 1 House and Garden ticket $200 + $80 pesos for regular membership).

Of all the great world religions, Buddhism attracts me most. I have always admired its ideal of self-mastery without the necessity of supernatural intervention.

However, my past attempts to understand the basic tenets of Zen Buddhism were fruitless until I discovered the writings of Thich Nhât Hahn, the Vietnamese monk exiled to Paris. Nhât Hahn was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Martin Luther King, Jr. King’s words were “His ideas for peace, if applied, would build a monument to ecumenism, to world brotherhood, to humanity.”

The Biblioteca has several of his books, all easy to understand. I recommend Being Peace; Breathe! You Are Alive; For a Future to be Possible; and/or No Death, No Fear. All have the call number: 294.3 NHA

The Good Daughter, A Memoir of My Mother’s Hidden Life

“The Good Daughter I knew back then was just a story she’d made up to scare me and make me into a good daughter, too.” Until the author found a photograph of her mother in a wedding veil standing beside a strange man, the story of her family’s history had been hidden from her.

Jasmin Darznik’s parents came to the United States from Iran when she was only three years old. As a young woman, after her father’s death, she found the photograph among a stack of old letters. At first her mother refused to talk about the picture, but a few months later Jasmin received her mother the first of ten tapes. They tell a story of her mother’s marriage at the age of thirteen to an abusive man and of a daughter, The Good Daughter, who still lived in Iran.

This moving memoir reveals the insightful story of three generations of Iranian women.

AT LAST TAX RECEIPTS FOR BIBLIOTECA’S CANADIAN DONORS

Amistad Canada, a new and fully–registered Canadian charity, is making it possible beginning in February 2011 for Canadians to support La Biblioteca’s youth education programs and receive a Canadian tax receipt for their donation.

Amistad Canada and La Biblioteca organized a project to provide scholarships, free classes and books to educate young Mexican students in San Miguel, thus enhancing their educational and future employment opportunities and improving the quality of life for their families. These three programs provided 290 students with primary, high school and university scholarships in 2010 and supported 64 hours of free education classes in science, music, art, English and computers as well as providing access to more than 60,000 books in Spanish and English to the residents, students and visitors to San Miguel.

The Biblioteca receives no public funding for these programs or any of the other services it provides to the community. Funds are raised through donations and the various library enterprises such as the Atencion, House and Garden Tour, Tienda and Café. Since the financial crisis in 2008, Mexican tourism has decreased substantially. Less tourism has had a negative effect on the revenues of the Biblioteca enterprises. In order to maintain and enhance the number of scholarships, continue free education classes and purchase new books, the Biblioteca needs to raise $25,000 annually in new donations. This amount would provide 12 months of education classes, 20 new scholarships and 500 new books per annum.

As a Canadian you can now support La Biblioteca’s education programs and receive a Canadian tax receipt for your generous gift to help young Mexican students complete their education. In Mexico more than 50% of all students do not complete high school.

To donate to the Amistad/Biblioteca Canadian Education Project, you just have to complete an Amistad Donation Form available at library reception and enclose cash, or a cheque payable to Amistad Canada. To donate via the internet, go to the Amistad Canada giving–page at CanadaHelps.org and choose “La Biblioteca“ in the “Fund/Designation“ box.
