This includes a host of traveler’s illnesses like stomach problems due to bacteria and parasites in the food and water. While living on the road for the 7 years we have been overexposed to the elements like sun, wind, rain, cold, mosquitoes, and other bug bites. The exercise is healthy but the hard life on the road has worn down our bodies and aged us. Visit our web site at http://www.downtheroad.org/</p>

Cindie Travis lists the continents and countries we have been bicycle touring and I, Tim, mixed the bike riding pictures with the podcast interview mp3 audio. We have bike toured in Arizona, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Canada, and now the USA. What a long strange trip it has been. For the next 20+ years we plan on bicycling through India, Africa, The Middle East, Japan, and more. We have the income to travel until our bodies tell us to stop but just how many years can we live the nomadic cycling lifestyle. So, barring health problems we intend to keep bicycling around the world for the next 25 years or more.</p>

Why Touring Bicycles with 26inch Wheels Instead of 700c?

Brake mounts and frame geometry can not be changed.
There are essentially two choices in wheel sizes when it comes to standard (not recumbent or other) touring bicycles. The width can vary but the diameter is either 700c or 26 inch. I do not know how one got to be measured in metric and the other in inches. To my knowledge this is only done in North America. Typically mountain bikes use 26 inch and road bikes use 700c wheels. 26 inch wheels are slightly smaller than the 700C wheels.

Why Touring Bicycles with 26inch Wheels Instead of 700c?

<media:text type="plain">http://www.downtheroad.org The decision between 700 cm and 26 inch will have to be made early in the frame shopping process.

This video is about a special bicycle touring home stay for travelers in Southeast Asia, Malaysia. David's guesthouse for cyclists in Parit Buntar, between Penang and the Cameron Highlands is far from the backpacker and tourist trail but right in the middle of real Malaysian culture. At David's we visited Chinese Buddhist and Indian Hindu Temples and saw unique religious ceremonies. We also attended the Chinese Ghost Festival and an Indian Wedding. If you are going to South East Asia and Malaysia on a bicycle please look David up at the web page in the video. He would love to hear from you.

In much of Southeast Asia, poverty is the norm. As you watch this video we ride past traditional houses with no source of clean drinking water or protection from malaria carrying mosquitoes. Living in these impoverished conditions did not stop the poor children from greeting us as we rode by. Several scenes of this video were filmed from the seat of my touring bike while I was riding one handed and looking through the camera.
