to their new homes. All the wonderful fabulous artworks were packaged up Monday, by my own self, and popped into the letter box. All the generous bidders should hope to have them in their hands VERY soon.

In my haste I speedily closed up each package, only to realise I had not included a letter of congratulations to the wonderful bidders.

So please accept this in its stead ...

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for joining in, and caring enough to spend your money on such a worthwhile cause. This has been my first foray into fund raising, and at times it seemed a little tricky, but ultimately it is a very proud moment when the money is handed over. The folks at NBCF are so very gracious, accommodating and kind.

Thank you too, to Brenda Smith, who also generously shared her knowledge and time with some of the intricacies of the ever-so-tricky-to-me blog world.

Lastly, and without whom none of this would have been possible, a HUGE thank you to the 14 amazingly-talented quilt and textile artists, who did not even hesitate in saying yes when i invited them to participate. Thanks girls for so generously sharing your time and immense skill.

I have been extremely fortunate that breast cancer has not touched my life, nor anyone in my family or circle of close friends. Although, like most of us, I know women who have been affected. It is with a spirit of concern, a desire to support and an acknowledgement of just how vulnerable we all are, that I ventured into this fund raising project. So, to all who participated, thank you!!!

I look forward to an even bigger and better result next year! stay tuned!

Going, going, GONE

In the lead up to Christmas I have been very busy getting three magazines ready to go to print - Down Under Textiles #1, Down Under Quilts #140 and Creative Expressions #26.

So busy in fact, that I have had very little time to attend to the 'housework' of the office. Therefore, I apologise for a lack of information.

I am just dropping in quickly to let you know the good news, that is that

ALL pieces are sold.

The total raised for NBCF is $2600!!!!

Absolutely ALL funds raised will go to NBCF, we will not be keeping any admin fees.

If you are one of the generous bidders and you did not received an email from me last Friday, please get in touch. I am aiming to finalise all payments and packaging and posting of artworks prior to Christmas.

Erica's and Brenda's were sold late last week.

This week we only have TWO left... $100 is not much to pledge to such a worthy cause AND obtain a textile artwork from a talented and award-winning artist!

Caroline Sharkey of Far North Coast, New South Wales says of her piece...

"Heart Goddess was made with Friends in mind. Three Hearts for three special friends that lost their mums in past years. I find stitching a very therapeutic process and making this piece was special!
I made the piece with fabric made from an old white wedding dress and veil bought and recycled from a second hand store. The hearts are also made from snippets of special reused fabrics and the embroidery edges were freely stitched onto water soluble fabric to create an individual edge for each heart and the finished edge of the piece. It has been mounted ready to frame under glass."

Jocelyn's work has been winning awards around the country, the most recent are First place in the Mixed Media Quilt (Open) category with the quilt called A Moment in Time at Canberra Quilt Show and she won the NSW Challenge a few weeks ago - take a look at her winning piece in the What Tickles Your Fancy challenge, Foot Loose and Fancy Free. Don't forget, you are raising much needed, and well-used funds for breast cancer research. Consider it a donation - that includes a gorgeous handmade artwork by a talented Australian textile artist.

The group of invited artists represent some of the best-known, and most-awarded textile and quilt artists in Australia at this time. Buying a piece of their artwork is an investment for years to come.

All artworks will go on auction at 10am on Friday morning (EST).

Friday is day 1. - the Artworks are for sale at $500.

Bids are to be emailed to me at deborah@creativelivingmedia.com.au

The first bid for each artwork that is received in my email box will WIN that item. I will notify all bidders of their success or not at 12 noon.

I will also update this BLOG to inform you which artworks are SOLD.

Saturday is day 2. - the remaining artworks will be available for bids from 10am, and will be for sale at $400.

Sunday is day3. - the remaining artworks will be available for bids from 10am, and will be for sale at $300.

Monday is day 4. - the remaining artworks will be available for bids from 10am, and will be for sale at $200.

Each day the blog will be updated to inform which artworks have been sold.

From Tuesday 10am any remaining artworks will be available, until all are sold, for $100. each.

Your biggest decision will be do you BID early - and pay more (it is for Charity) or do you take your chances, and maybe lose the one you covet the most... ?

Get ready ladies and gentlemen; it is now time to support our fund raising activities for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

On November 27 the auction will BEGIN – tell ALL your friends.

There are 14 wonderful A4-sized textile artworks up for grabs. You can add an artwork to your textile collection for a fraction of the price that these artists work normally sell for. Scroll down to the gallery and earlier posts to refresh your memory.

All money raised will be sent to the NBCF – no admin or artist’s fees will be required, so every cent you spend will go to this extremely important and worthwhile charity.

Updating legalities

Been huddled in the paperwork... sorry, I know so many people are anxiously awaiting the next step, and so are we!

At this moment we are just finishing off the approval forms from the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Our activities to date have been okay without the paperwork, but at this stage we need a written approval PRIOR to actually raising any funds.

So, sit tight the auction will begin soon. We will give you a few days notice when we are ready.

The auction will be a REVERSE auction. The price on all pieces will open at $500 on the first day. Therefore, to ensure you win your favourite you must consider whether to bid on day one, or wait, as the price decreases.

My advice is bid quick and bid big - we all know the funds are going to a great cause.

Over the ensuring days the prices will decrease by $100 each day. On the last day, at $100 the price will stabilise.

Keep your purses or chequebooks handy, and we'll get back to you soon!

off to Brisbane they go ...

Today the artworks were packed up and sent to Brisbane. From Wednesday to Sunday they will be displayed at the Craft & Quilt Fair at Southbank.

Stop by and have a look, they are so much more expressive in real life.

Also, stop by our Down Under Quilts stand - 114 - and say HI.

I will be there Friday, Saturday and Sunday and really look forward to making new friends.

We hope you have enjoyed viewing these A4 artworks made by talented Australian textile artists.

Next week you can see them in the 'flesh' or is that in the 'fabric'? They will be displayed at the annual Craft and Quilt Fair in Brisbane.

All of the pieces will be on display and you can determine which one YOU want to bid for when they go to Auction in a few weeks to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Come along to THE craft event of 2009… there’s something for everyone at the Brisbane Craft and Quilt Fair. Exclusive displays, free workshops, new products and demonstrations.

Entry to the fair also includes the Brisbane Bead Fair – you can stock up on all your jewellery making supplies too.

Olga says: "The abstract patterns in the piece represent the mythical chaos or nothingness from where the Earth Goddess, Gaia was born.
The voluptuous Gaia, is usually depicted in more verdant colours, however I have chosen to represent her in the pink hues often associated with the universal feminine.
Some years ago we lost a very dear family friend, who passed away due to breast cancer. She was an inspiration to our family because of her braveness and determination to keep her dignity throughout her short illness. her illness was most unexpected as she had always enjoyed a very healthy lifestyle.
I feel privileged to have been asked to make this small artwork as a gesture of goodwill for the fight against breast cancer and Bid-4A-Cause.
Resist discharged and over-dyed cotton fabrics, synthetic threads, wool/polyester batting."

Erica says: "I have been collecting and sewing fabric for more than 20 years, mainly to indulge my sense of touch. I enjoy stitching by hand so that there is continual contact between the cloth and my hands. Making my designs into tangible objects is a particular pleasure.
This textile piece is made with a layer of pink and gold silk fibres over hand-dyed fabric. It is hand stitched all over with pink cotton thread. The universal female symbols are created with metallic foil in purple, the colour of spirituality. I used these shapes to represent the eternal challenges of women."

Nic says: "My piece is simply called Roseus Goddess and is a celebration of the beauty of the female form. It is taken from my original watercolour drawn from life, and has been interpreted in fabric by painting an overlay onto Lutradur, then drawing with stitch over a base of rose-coloured fabric. This technique allows the soft pink tone to glow through the overlay, the colour being revealed fully in the burnt-out cabbage rose wallpaper."

Robyn says: "Heart of Rose is my expression of Goddess Roseus. The colour pink is considered the colour of universal love. It creates a sense of calm, relaxation, acceptance and contentment - they say that lovers of beauty favour pink! The beauty and harmony I tried to create in ‘Rose’ was through her facial expression of compassion and the giving of delicate pink flowers and hearts tumbling from her arms. The work has been created on watercolour paper using acid free glue to adhere all fabrics and metallic thread and bead embellishment."
