This week, Alwin from Malaysia has sent in his Celtic Cross reading for our Tarot Circle interpretation.

As with all Tarot Circle posts, I’ll provide my initial thoughts and then I’ll hand it over to you, the reader, to use the comments section to write what you see.

Remember there’s no right or wrong and you don’t have to be an experienced Tarot reader to comment.

The Question

Alwin asks, “Will there be a reconciliation between myself and this other person?”

Alwin’s Tarot Reading

Alwin used the Celtic Cross Tarot spread and drew the following Tarot cards.

Present – Temperance

Crossing Card – Devil

Above – Four of Swords

Below – Ten of Wands

Recent Past – Ten of Pentacles

Near Future – Six of Wands

Advice – Six of Cups

External Influences – Page of Pentacles

Hopes and Fears – Empress

Outcome – Lovers

Alwin adds, “Well, what does it really mean? Number six seems to connote some form of pleasantry in relationships as it seems to signify union, while the Four of Swords, something negative. Why are there pentacles coming in readings with regards to relationship? Does this suggest money comes into the way as well?”

My Interpretation of Alwin’s Tarot Reading

Let’s start with the Past – Present – Future timeline. At a high level, this looks quite positive and there is a nice flow of energy here. In the past, the relationship has been very solid and well-established (Ten of Pentacles). What may have come in the way, however, was the energy of the Devil – being overly possessive, jealous or obsessive. Sometimes we can fall so madly in love that we lose sight of there being two individuals and we hungrily search for bondage and connection that is over the top. Perhaps things got out of hand and Alwin’s ex wanted some freedom.

Currently, however, Alwin is trying his best to be patient and to take a moderate and balanced approach (Temperance). He may be forever fighting, though, with the devil on his back, being tempted to force the connection again yet knowing that patience and moderation is required. This is like two side of the coin, two mindsets that are operating in combat with each other.

In the future, the Six of Wands beckons positive outcomes and a feeling of success and victory – no doubt a positive sign for the relationship. With the Lovers as the Outcome card, this too is a positive sign that Alwin may be able to reconcile with his loved one. However, the Lovers also indicates important choices, so he may need to make some firm commitments to changing his mindset or his behaviour and releasing the influence of the Devil which may cause him to become obsessive or jealous at times.

In his day-to-day life, the Four of Swords reflects that this relationship is lying dormant right now. Alwin is also using this time to rest, relax and re-energise. He is reflecting on the relationship before taking action. Underneath, on a subconscious level, he may still be carrying baggage from the past (Ten of Wands) and he needs to continue work in releasing this baggage.

The Six of Cups is about nostalgia and the good memories of the past. When he feels ready to take action, he may want to invite his ex to reminisce on the good times they had, to visit their favourite places and to remember what an amazing relationship they had. I see this, also, as a green light to try to reconcile in the near future.

With the Page of Pentacles, the person Alwin is interested in may be pursuing a new job, career or field of study. Her attention may be in this space, so Alwin needs to be respectful of her time and her other responsibilities.

With the Empress, Alwin clearly wants this person to be a key part of his life, and potentially even the mother of his children one day. He appreciates the nurturing and caring element of this person’s personality and wants her to be a part of his life moving forward.

Will There be a Reconciliation?

Let’s cycle back to the original question – Will there be a reconciliation? Well, I feel that the possibility is there and that Alwin is taking the right steps to get there. So long as he can manage the temptation to become overly possessive or obsessive about this relationship and he can create a more balanced and moderate mindset, he will give himself the best chance. He needs to show that he has made an important choice in his own mind to change his ways and to give only the best of himself to the relationship. To connect with her, he needs to take a walk down memory lane with her and remind her of all the wonderful aspects of the relationship that once was.

What’s Your Read?

Over to you! How would you interpret these cards and the spread overall? What is your advice to Alwin?

Post your response in the comments below. Use this as an opportunity to hone your Tarot reading skills or to get your opinion out there!

If you are interested in having your own Tarot reading interpreted, you are welcome to send it in, but please note there is currently a 5+ week waiting period.

She now also has her claim to fame with being one of the American Idol Psychics!

In our interview below, find out what makes Theresa tick, how she has learned to trust and use her intuition for her Tarot readings, and what advice she has for Tarot professionals setting up their business.

Why Tarot? And what’s kept you going for all those thirty years you’ve been reading?

Why tarot? That’s like asking why do I breathe. Tarot is in my soul. I wake up and think tarot. I dream in tarot. I see tarot in everything and in everyone. And I love tarot because I feel it is a fantastic tool for self development.

Tarot helps us to find direction, to look at things from all sides, and to gain clarity which all leads to consciousness. The more conscious we are with our thoughts and actions, the more we are able to tweak our fates and live an enlightened life. Tarot has guided me through some very rough waters. It’s the old friend that I can always count on and the one tool that has never failed me. Plus, I love helping other people. So that is what keeps me going all these years.

You come across as a very ‘real’ and authentic woman (enjoying yoga to a gangsta rap soundtrack, for example!). How do you bring these qualities into your Tarot readings? How would you define your style when it comes to reading the cards?

I do try to keep it real! Ha ha! I have a sense of humor about life and am very grounded – plus I am cool with who I am. What you see is what you get here.

I have some quirks but I feel that there is no need to hide them – embrace who you are and be you – never a pale imitation of anyone else. That’s my motto.

I also feel that when you are authentically you then you attract the people who resonate with your vibe and this helps to weed out those who may not be a good fit. You can serve people much better when they are comfortable with you and vice versa. When a person comes to me for a reading, I am not going to try and talk over their heads with some esoteric mumbo jumbo.

I would consider myself to be an intuitive reader but I am very practical and strategic in my thinking. If I see roadblocks ahead, I am always looking for ways to work around them so that my clients may lead more peaceful and happier lives.

Again, it is all about raising consciousness. I’m here to see what you cannot see so that you can gain more control over your fate. I firmly believe that we can change course any time that we wish and I hope to provide my clients with tools so that they can maneuver life with more finesse and less drama.

Many Tarot students struggle with trusting their intuition. As an intuitive Tarot reader, how have you learned trust your intuition?

I’ve learned the hard way. That is, every time I didn’t listen to it, I got a cosmic wake up call! And my karma is pretty instant. If I ignore that still voice within, I usually get a very swift karmic boot in the pants almost immediately. I’ve had remarkable intuitive experiences in my life and I also had the good fortune to have a mother and grandmother who were both psychic. I grew up around superstition and visions – so it was very ordinary to me. Nothing special. The ego has never had a chance to get in the way because growing up in that environment takes the “glitz” factor out of it.

I think if more people viewed their intuition as a common, natural, and everyday trait, they’d trust it more.

You provide business coaching to Tarot readers. What is your one piece of advice to an aspiring Tarot reader who wants to start their own business?

The biggie – treat your business like a business. That means investing in your work, keeping a schedule, paying taxes, getting the right paperwork, having an accountant, setting up a functional website, marketing and more. Too often I see people trying to be a professional tarot reader but treating their business like a hobby. It’s not as hard as you think to run a “real” business. And if you don’t know how, there are many resources available.

If I may, I do want to throw in one other piece of advice: keep learning. Never, ever think you know it all. Beginner’s mind all the way.

What has been your biggest mistake as a Tarot reader? What did you learn from this experience?

Boundaries with clients. Oh, I’ve learned some brutal lessons in that department and am still learning. I’ve learned that I cannot serve everyone. I’ve also learned to set some strong policies and stick to my guns. For example, I rarely answer the phone any more. Clients used to be able to get me right on the line when they called and that turned into free sessions for those who wanted “to just chat”.

I’ve also learned that I cannot pal around with my clients – too often that leads to people using my friendship to get unlimited intuitive advice. When people don’t want to get to really know me and seem to only want to dump on me, that’s my first sign that this is a boundary no-no. I like to be a nice guy but it is very easy to be taken advantage of in this line of work.

What’s on for the next 12 months at Tarot Lady?

I’m continuing with my blogging and writing as well as my yoga and meditation classes. I’m also working on some fantastic digital classes including my first one, Tarot For Brand New Moms, which launches next month. My goal in these classes is to teach everyone that they can use tarot for real life situations. I am about empowering my students and I think these classes will help in that endeavor.

I’m also writing a book (about tarot, of course).

And recently, I just signed on to be one of the Idol Psychics!

OMG. You’re part of the Idol Psychics?! How did you land that gig?

I am friends with Corrine Kenner and Donnaleigh de la Rose. Last year, I filled in for Corrine one night when she had some other event to attend. I must have done a decent enough job because Corrine asked me to join them this year. It’s a huge honor and I hope I can do her proud! I am a music fanatic so this is going to be a blast.

The Star is one of my favourite cards. It signifies renewed hope and faith and is a welcome sign particularly after a period of turmoil and upset. This card reminds you that the Universe is indeed looking out for you and will soon bring you a much better period of growth and development.

The woman in the Star card is pouring water between a pond and the ground. This is representative of the saying, “Out with the old and in with the new.” Thus, this week will see you going through a major personal transformation where you are deciding what parts to keep and what to get rid of.

On a personal level, I know that we will be going through our belongings as we begin to pack for our six month trip to Spain. We’re trying to take a minimalist approach and rid ourselves of things that we don’t need for that time. The process of getting ready for a new phase or a new cycle is a very cleansing one and has a profound impact on our spiritual growth as a couple and as a family.

How do you anticipate the Star will play out for you this week?

This week, Cheryl from Canada has sent in her New Year Tarot reading for our Tarot Circle interpretation.

As with all Tarot Circle posts, I’ll provide my initial thoughts and then I’ll hand it over to you, the reader, to use the comments section to write what you see.

Remember there’s no right or wrong and you don’t have to be an experienced Tarot reader to comment.

The Question

Cheryl didn’t ask a specific question. Since we are using the New Year spread, it’s pretty clear that the question is along the lines of “What do I need to know about the year head?”

Cheryl’s Tarot Reading

Cheryl used the New Year Tarot spread. She also provided her own interpretation for each of the Tarot cards drawn, which I have included below.

1. The previous year in summary – Queen of Swords

The Queen of Swords is actually my astrological card, as well as first card randomly drawn on this spread

2. What have you learned from the past year – Three of Wands

To let go, and allow my daughter to ‘sail’ onto her own path, giving her independence

3. What you ultimately aspire to in the next twelve months – Ace of Wands reversed

Focus and prioritize, go back to 10 of Wands and release some of the demands and obligations

4. What empowers you in reaching your aspirations – Five of Wands reversed

Release of some of the struggles

Again focus to reach goals

Compromise what is important to me

5. What may stand in the way of reaching your aspirations – The Hanged Man reversed

Must sacrifice for my better good i.e. choose and prioritize among metaphysical studies, and activities (spreading myself too thin and creating unnecessary burdens and stress)

6. Your relationships and emotions in the coming year – Three of Cups reversed

Isolating myself while focusing on metaphysical studies and activities

Distancing myself from family and friends (feeling emotionally drained from the strain of always helping others)

7. Your career, work and finances – Knight of Wands reversed

Delays and frustrations

“Do not act impulsively…There will be things that you can control and change as you want to.”

8. Your health and well-being – The Tower

Sudden change of events

This card is my most worrisome in the spread. In this position, I feel anxious over the unknown

9. Your spiritual energy and inner fulfillment – Two of Cups

Need to explore the ability to love self

Represents heart chakra – open and ready to give and receive love

10. What you most need to focus on for the year ahead – Temperance

Balance, moderation and patience

Self evaluate to re-examine life priorities

11. What will be your most important lesson in the coming year – Queen of Pentacles reversed

Mothering vs. smothering

Isolating myself, feeling as though I need a reprieve from the demands of emotionally supporting family and friends

12. Overall, what lies ahead for the next twelve months – Eight of Cups reversed

Confusion over best options (wanting to achieve so much, studying obsessively, yet feeling as though I should be farther ahead in my metaphysical goals)

Knowing when to walk away from a situation that is not working for me (prioritizing)

Summary:

The area in my life that needs the most attention in 2012 is balancing and prioritizing.

Firstly, I want to be there for family and friends, yet I need to protect myself from being a human sponge of others’ emotions. I need to realize everyone has their own paths that they must experience to grow and learn. Although I want everyone to be safe, to have health, to be happy and well, I cannot control situations or protect them from falls. I cannot take on the responsibility for everyone’s situations and actions.

Secondly, I need to prioritize my metaphysical studies and activities. I have gone from one extreme (being there exclusively for my family and friends) to passionately studying metaphysics and volunteering. Although I feel that I am fulfilling a personal need with my studies and activities, I still need to work and to take care of my home and family. Balance, moderation, and patience.

My Interpretation of Cheryl’s Tarot Reading

Cheryl has done an amazing job at interpreting her own reading. So I will simply add a few extra observations to her already solid interpretation.

What stood out to me was the Three of Cups reversed (Relationships) and the Two of Cups (Spirituality). I have often seen the reversed Three of Cups as being the ‘other woman’ in a relationship so Cheryl may find herself in this predicament. If she does, she may be better off leaving the relationship and returning to her relationship with herself, learning to love who she is. Even if it is not indicative of a third party relationship, then she may indeed find that she prefers to spend more time on her own, connecting with herself, loving herself, and learning about her emotional self before she moves back into the social circle again. (I love the connection with the Heart chakra, too, by the way!)

Cheryl also wrote that she felt quite anxious about the Tower in her Health and Well-Being position. The thing with the Tower is that while it does bring shocking and unexpected change, it has longer-term benefits and it helps to re-focus your thoughts and beliefs. It is often a blessing in disguise. For example, you may find yourself off your feet for 3-4 weeks but this turns out to be a pivotal period where you can read a lot of books on an entirely new subject or even start writing a book from your bed or couch. While the Tower does bring a major shake-up, it’s best not to focus too much on it because there is often little you can do to change it. You could try to be more cautious to prevent any unwanted accidents, but sometimes these things just happen whether we’re careful or not. Just know that if something does happen, it will be a blessing in disguise, so look out for the hidden opportunities.

In fact, look at the reversed Hanged Man as a challenge. Perhaps Cheryl will find herself in a period of unwanted suspension where she does have to stay in bed or be off her feet for a certain period. While she may initially see this as a frustrating delay, it may provide the opportunity for reflection and contemplation about life.

What’s Your Read?

Over to you! How would you interpret these cards and the spread overall? What is your advice to Cheryl?

Post your response in the comments below. Use this as an opportunity to hone your Tarot reading skills or to get your opinion out there!

If you are interested in having your own Tarot reading interpreted, you are welcome to send it in, but please note there is currently a 4-5 week waiting period.

The card drawn for this week is the Ten of Swords.

The Ten of Swords shows a man lying face down with ten long swords embedded in his back. A red cape is draped over the lower half of his body, while his top half remains unclothed. The sky above him is pitch black and there is a general feeling of pain, loss, and misfortune. However, despite these ominous images, there are positive aspects to this card. The sea before which the body lies is still and calm and the sun is rising in the distance beyond the mountains, indicating that the darkness will soon be dispelled. Thus, each new beginning must come from an end, and with every defeat are sown the seeds of future victory.

This week, there may be a sudden and shocking ending or an ultimate betrayal of your trust. It comes as a very unwelcome surprise and you will feel hurt and upset as a result of what has happened.

The Ten of Swords is often associated with feeling the ‘victim’ in a situation. You may feel powerless as something comes to a crashing and sudden end, and you feel as if you are being attacked or backstabbed by someone else. You crave pity from others with a small sigh of, “Poor me!” You may even use this challenging time to portray yourself as a martyr, to show that you have put your interests last but have suffered as a result.

While this period is difficult and painful, it shall pass. The ending is inevitable and it is clearing the air in order to make way for new beginnings. The saving grace is that you have a new awareness and a positive sense of relief that the difficulty and pain will soon be over and will evolve into something new. As with all endings there will be a new beginning, a rebirth, and a rejuvenation of the spirit. So, while this card may seem negative at first glance, it is a card of hope and an indication that your troubles will not be permanent.

Furthermore, this is the final ordeal, and no more pain will come to you from that source. It is darkest before the dawn, and as gloomy as it looks, the sun will rise again. It can only get better from here.

So, this week, be prepared for a painful ending which will make way for a new beginning that will free you from your past hurt.

This week, Jospehinne from Japan has sent in her Celtic Cross reading for our Tarot Circle interpretation.

As with all Tarot Circle posts, I’ll provide my initial thoughts and then I’ll hand it over to you, the reader, to use the comments section to write what you see.

Remember there’s no right or wrong and you don’t have to be an experienced Tarot reader to comment.

The Question

Jospehinne asked the Tarot, “Would this new partnership venture beneficial for both of us financially and emotionally?”

What a wonderfully worded question! Perfect for the Tarot cards.

The Tarot Spread

Jospehinne used the Celtic Cross spread and drew the following cards:

Situation – Page of Pentacles

Crossing card – Death reversed

Above – ?? (missing in action)

Below – Ten of Pentacles

Recent past – Three of Wands reversed

Near future – Six of Pentacles

Advice – Nine of Cups reversed

External influences – Judgement reversed

Hopes and fears – Seven of Cups

Outcome – Six of Swords reversed

Jospehinne adds, “The overall interpretation for me is that by looking at the outcome card there will be lack of satisfaction mentally and emotionally. I would also love to hear from you.”

My Interpretation of Jospehinne’s Tarot Reading

The Page of Pentacles is a clear indication that Jospehinne has business and finances on the mind and that she’s considering a new business venture. The Ten of Pentacles in the Below position is another indicator that she is aiming to grow this business into something long-term and sustainable to set her up for the future.

But what is getting in the way is that there is something that she has not yet closed off that she needs to in order for this new venture to work (Death reversed). A major change is required, but Jospehinne is resisting it for some reason.

With the reversed Three of Wands, she has already encountered delays to her plans that have prevented the partnership from moving forward. Perhaps this has caused her plans to stall and get stuck in limbo (another factor related to the reversed Death card).

In the future, she may find more benefit in helping people in need, rather than focusing on wealth accumulation and business building (Six of Pentacles). Sometimes you need to give in order to receive, and she may be better off focusing on giving away free information or helping customers instead of increasing profits and revenues.

The advice of the reversed Nine of Cups is that Jospehinne may already have many blessings and opportunities at her disposal that she is not acknowledging. She may be experiencing a bit of the grass is always greener syndrome, longing after what she doesn’t have. Another aspect of the Nine of Cups reversed that ties in with the Six of Pentacles is being mindful of greed. A business whose sole focus is to make money may be at risk of damaging relationships with the community.

Externally, someone may be making a decision of their own that may impact this venture (Judgement reversed). I noticed Jospehinne used the word “we” in her question, so perhaps her business partner is already having second thoughts. Given this is a Major Arcana card, there may be some major implications for the business venture that create further delays.

Jospehinne seems to be most concerned about having too many ideas and not enough action (Seven of Cups). It happens to so many people who want to start their own business. They have tonnes of ideas in their head, but they fail to take the first step. So, Jospehinne needs to balance idea-generation with action-taking. There may also be a number of opportunities on offer, but not all will bring the results she wants. Best to do some solid research before committing.

And finally, the Six of Swords reversed is another card that suggests Jospehinne is reluctant to leave behind something and this is preventing her from moving forward with this venture. A transition is required that may be challenging, but necessary. While it’s hard to leave behind all the good memories, it needs to happen this way in order to expand and to grow.

Summary

My advice would not be to abandon the venture altogether but to go back to the original business plans and model and tweak it slightly. There is definitely something around ensuring the business adds value to the community in a way that is morally and ethically bound. And there is something that must be closed out or finished before this business can really get under way. I wouldn’t be surprised, either, if her business partner pulls out or has doubts about their involvement.

What’s Your Read?

Over to you! How would you interpret these cards and the spread overall? What is your advice to Jospehinne?

Post your response in the comments below. Use this as an opportunity to hone your Tarot reading skills or to get your opinion out there!

If you are interested in having your own Tarot reading interpreted, you are welcome to send it in, but please note there is currently a 4-5 week waiting period.

One of her goals as a Tarot reader is to make Tarot more accessible and acceptable, and so Christiana loves to read the Tarot cards in places such as nightclubs, churches, wineries, hair salons and military bases.

Today, Christiana shares her thoughts about Tarot as a tool for healing and provides five inspiring exercises you can do to heal your own life through Tarot.

Over to you, Christiana!

If you ask someone who has never before worked with tarot about the purpose of tarot, they will most likely say something about fortune telling.

It is true that tarot has an uncanny knack for predicting future events. As a tool of divination it is accurate, compelling and insightful.

But if you ask a tarotist about the purpose of tarot, many will answer this way. Tarot is a tool for healing.

Tarot as a Tool for Healing

The ways in which tarot heals may be limitless. Over time, tarotists will develop and discover new ways to use these sacred images to bring healing. Each tarotist has unique practices, so no list of tarot’s usefulness could ever be comprehensive.

The process of divination itself can be very healing. Whether we are reading for ourselves or others, a good tarot reading can bring us to a place of emotional balance and well-being. It can give new perspective, and reframe painful issues to create healthier and more productive thinking.

A tarot reading can pinpoint problems and offer solutions. A tarot reading may suggest new activities, new healing modalities and new priorities to create better health, both physically and emotionally.

For reasons both ethical and legal, tarot readers need to be very careful to avoid actually practicing medicine. However, physical ailments, and their possible remedies, do occasionally appear in the cards. Urging a client to get to a doctor quickly can sometimes literally be a lifesaver. Sometimes a reader may be able to give a sense of treatments or lifestyle changes that could help a client heal. Here, the healing may come in the form of a referral to a particular medical practitioner.

Tarot reading can offer opportunities for communication. Often, communication brings healing. This can include openhearted communication within a couples reading, communication with a deceased loved one, or tactics to help improve communication in a difficult relationship.

5 Inspiring Ways to Heal Yourself with Tarot

Beyond the process of reading the cards, tarot can offer healing in a number of ways. We can use tarot images in meditation, visualization, goal setting, magick and manifestation.

Tarot Meditation

Tarot meditation can take many forms. One way to use tarot meditation for healing is this. Look through the deck and choose an image that describes a current situation you want to change, or a current feeling you need to let go.

For example, let’s consider the Waite Rider Smith Eight of Swords. Here we see a person bound and blindfolded. She is stuck in a cage made of her own thoughts, or perhaps someone else’s unkind words. An anxious person might choose this image to perform a healing meditation or visualization.

1. Become the Person in the Tarot Card

One way to perform a healing meditation is to become the person in the image. Think about the swords that surround you, and decide what they represent. Are they anxious thoughts, thoughts of self-doubt, or lapses in integrity? Now think about what it feels like to be stuck. Decide that you no longer want or need to be in that stuck place. Find a way out. Wriggle out of the binding, remove the blindfold, and simply walk away. Perhaps you want to take the swords down, one by one, before you go.

2. Have a Conversation with the Person in the Tarot Card

Another way to work with this card is to enter the card as an observer. Hold a conversation with the trapped person. Ask her why she is there. Ask her questions about her situation and see how she responds. Here, your subconscious will communicate with your conscious mind. The information you receive could be extremely valuable in your healing process. As you visualize helping her escape, you create the possibility for your own transformation.

3. Learn from the Character Traits of the Tarot Card

You can use tarot to develop beneficial character traits. Look through the cards and find one that represents the personal qualities you would like to develop within yourself. Take that card as your new significator – the card that represents you. See yourself as that card character. Pay attention when it comes up in readings. Use it to help shape your sense of personal identity.

Tarot Magick

Tarot magick works in a similar way, but through manifestion of your healing desires.

4. Focus on What You Want to Manifest

Find a card that represents what you want to achieve. Meditate on the image, keep the card on your altar, hold your body in the position of the card character, or keep the card under your pillow. Do whatever it takes to make that image part of your own energy. Breathe it in, hold it to your heart, visualize yourself within the image – do whatever feels right to you. As you embrace the energy of the card, it will be made manifest it your life.

5. Banish Bad Habits or End a Negative Cycle

If there is something you want to banish from your life, tarot can help with that, too. If you want to break a bad habit, heal from an illness or end a cycle in your life, you can choose a card to represent that which you are ready to release. Place the card face down on the table, and affirm your power to break away from what no longer serves you. You can even print a copy of the image and destroy it. As you do, feel yourself being freed from what has enslaved you.

Begin Your Healing Journey Today

Even as we study the tarot cards, we can use the cards to heal. Each card bears a spiritual lesson as well as an interpretive value. When we embrace the spiritual message of each card, we have the opportunity to use that message to grow and heal.

Tarot inspires our creativity, increases our intuition, and offers us opportunities for communication on the deepest levels. In all these ways and more, tarot is a profound tool for healing.

In fact, he is so engrossed in deep contemplation that he does not appear to notice the cup being presented to him by an outstretched arm. A further three cups stand at his feet, symbolising the world and its attractions but again, he pays little attention to these.

This week, you may be offered an opportunity but instead of snapping it up right away, you may want to think about it some more. You would be wise to take some extra time to consider whether this is the right opportunity for you and whether it is aligned to your goals.

The Four of Cups often appears when you are bored or dissatisfied with the status quo. You may be feeling disengaged, apathetic, or unmotivated. Life has become stale or ‘flat’ and there is little that excites you anymore. To overcome this, you need to re-evaluate your situation and to look deep within your own psyche to find understanding and meaning. Turn your attention inward to find the Truth for which you are searching. Avoid distractions and examine your heart and mind to gain clarity.

As with all Tarot Circle posts, I’ll provide my initial thoughts and then I’ll hand it over to you, the reader, to use the comments section to write what you see.

Remember there’s no right or wrong and you don’t have to be an experienced Tarot reader to comment.

The Question

Ale’s question is about her parents-in-law. She writes that she feels they have acted against her and her son, and so she has decided to move away and not see them anymore. While this was three years ago, Ale still finds it difficult to understand why they acted this way towards her son.

Ale asked the Tarot cards, “What was their real intention, to act like that to my son?”

We do need to be quite careful with this question as it relates to a third party who is not present for the Tarot reading and who has not provided their permission. This can raise issues of privacy and ethics which you can read more about here.

Ideally, we would rephrase this question to, “What does Ale need to know about the way in which her parents-in-law responded to her and her son?”

The Tarot Spread

Ale used the Celtic Cross spread, drawing these Tarot cards:

Significator – Magician

Crossing card – Wheel of Fortune

Above – The World

Below – Five of Pentacles

Recent Past – Queen of Swords

Near Future – Ten of Pentacles

Advice – Six of Wands

External influences – Page of Swords

Hopes and fears – Tower

Outcome – Four of Cups

Ale’s Interpretation of Her Tarot Reading

Ale has also provided her own interpretation of her Tarot reading.

The Magician may describe that I am aware of my actions.

The Wheel of Fortune suggests that karma will play a big role about it or there is not much to do about it.

The Five of Pentacles may indicate how I feel abandoned and unwanted about myself or about my son.

The Queen of Swords describes my mother-in-law or her behaviour . She is being rational, cold, distant and never acts with such emotions. Or maybe it is my final action towards to them when I used a sharp tongue to tell them my opinion about their attitudes.

The World seems to be a good sign but maybe it is another indication for us to relocate again.

The Ten of Pentacles suggests wealth and good fortune is on the way again.

The Six of Wands may show me acting with self-confidence or seeing myself as winner

The Page of Swords reflects my son. He has strong Aquarian qualities in his natal chart and he asks a lot of questions.

The Tower highlights that I am afraid any sudden changes.

The Four of Cups reflects that I don’t appreciate my in-law’s behaviour.

My Interpretation of Ale’s Tarot Reading

Firstly, I think Ale has done a great job at interpreting her own reading. Remember that the Tarot cards you draw often have specific messages just for you. That is, what you, as the reader, see in the cards first off is often what you are meant to know about those cards. Getting a second opinion often just confirms what you have already seen for yourself.

Nonetheless, let me add a few other observations and ideas to Ale’s interpretation.

If we go back to Ale’s original question, it was to ask why her in-law’s acted in this way. To me, this is more about the past actions of an external party, so the Recent Past card and the External Influences card will have the most relevance for answering her question.

The Queen of Swords in the Recent Past confirms that what was said and done by both parties came from a place of no emotion, rationality and perhaps even a cold heart as Ale has noted. While it would be easy to say this card reflects the mother-in-law alone, I do think it’s important to look at this card as an indication of the dynamic of the relationship. That is, both parties are responsible for how they have responded and upon reflection, Ale may also acknowledge that she too acted like the Queen of Swords.

The Page of Swords sits in the External Influences and as Ale noted, this probably reflects her son. Isn’t it interesting that we have both the Page and Queen of Swords here. Mother and son? Family ties? I see this as a subtle reminder that despite the family issues here, Ale’s son is still her mother-in-law’s grandson so Ale does need to acknowledge there is still a family connection. Her son still deserves to know who his grandma is and have that connection, even if it has been a little nasty as of late.

The Below card will also be important here as it relates to the underlying factors involved in the situation. The Five of Pentacles is about being left out in the cold and isolated. Perhaps Ale has been impacted by this situation because her in-laws have shown no sign of helping her and her son when they are in need. Perhaps Ale needed financial support, but they refused to provide it. She has been left to fend for herself and her son, and this is very disappointing and hurtful.

So, clearly a difficult situation. Let’s know focus on how to move forward by turning to the Advice card – the Six of Wands. Ale needs to hold her head high and just move forward now, feeling proud of herself and what she has accomplished. It is no use having nay-sayers in your life. Instead, the advice is to surround herself with positive people who support her.

And where to from here? The Four of Cups shows that she is unlikely to respond at all to her in-laws and I wouldn’t be surprised if there is no contact for several years given the hurt that has been caused. It doesn’t mean that there will never be any contact, but I suspect that she will not to be open to any sort of invitation for communication for a while.

Interesting, too, to see the Ten of Pentacles. If Ale has been suffering financially, then she is going to find a way to bring wealth into her life. Perhaps there is an inheritance, a new relationship with a wealthy man, a financial gift, or improvements in her own career and income.

What’s Your Read?

Over to you! How would you interpret these cards and the spread overall? What is your advice to Ale?
