I’ve always been intrigued by leaders, coaches and teams that use the phrase “Surrounded By The Best!” You would think this would be an obvious or natural response for all leaders “I Want To Be Surrounded By The Best!” The reality is that many leaders desire to be the best and surround themselves with mediocrity.

The word best is an illusive term; however it’s defined as – being of the highest quality, excellence, the best work, desirable etc. With that definition in mind, a leader should always strive for the best. It’s also important for leaders to understand that they are ultimately responsible for developing their team to be the best.

If you look at sports teams that have a tradition of winning and being the best, you will find a head coach that surrounds himself with the best assistant coaches in the business. You will also find a program where everyone in the country is trying to recruit and hire those assistant coaches. Why? It’s simple, just as the definition states: they are high quality, desirable and the best.

What You Wants to Know in the Desert?

"I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." The famous eleventh verse of Psalm 119 that most of us already know. It took me reading this verse to figure out why things were so much different back in the Bible days. How did David become a "Man after God's own heart"? How did Mary live such a life to have gained favor with God? I just couldn't wrap my head around how these people lived such clean lives. Then it hit me. These people lived lives like this because God's Word was truly in there hearts. It was a part of who they were. It wasn't something they were forced to memorize for a test, it was transcribed on their hearts. So how do we go about living our lives, trying to get through the constant mess that is bombarded at us in the media every day? Well, what would Jesus do? (score one for the awesome bracelets). He shows us a perfect example of how he beat the temptation in Matthew 4:1-11. He quoted Scripture. God has given us every tool we need to withstand temptation, we just need to read the instruction manual.

1. John 3:30 He must become greater, I must become less.

2. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

3. Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,who have been called according to his purpose.

4. Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

5. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, .and he will make your paths straight.

6. Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them inthe name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

En mi tiempo diario de lectura bíblica durante el año pasado leí Probervios 3, un pasaje que he estudiado y predicado en numerosas ocasiones. Pero durante esta lectura, me di cuenta que entre los versículos del 3 al 12 tenemos todos los temas del resto del libro y, por lo tanto, una especie de mini-guía a una vida de fidelidad. Hay cinco cosas que constituyen un estilo de vida sabio y piadoso. Funcionan tanto como el medio para llegar a ser sabio y piadoso, así como también son signos que indican si uno está creciendo en ese estilo de vida:
1. Confia en lo más profundo de tu corazón en Dios y en su gracia. Recuérdate cada día a ti mismo de su pacto incondicional de amor por ti. No pongas tus esperanzas en ídolos o en lo que tú puedas hacer. 
Que nunca te abandonen el amor y la verdad: llévalos siempre alrededor de tu cuello y escríbelos en el libro de tu corazón. Contarás con el favor de Dios y tendrás buena fama entre la gente. Confía en el SEÑOR de todo corazón... (Prov 3:3-5a)
2. Sujeta toda tu mente a la Escritura. No pienses que sabes más que la palabra de Dios. Aplícalo en todas las áreas de tu vida. Sé una persona bajo autoridad. 
...y no [confíes] en tu propia inteligencia. Reconócelo en todos tus caminos, y él allanará tus sendas (Prov 3:5b-6). 
3. Sé humilde y déjate enseñar por otros. Perdona y sé comprensivo [con los demás] cuando lo que querrías es criticarles; disponte a aprender cuando otros sean críticos contigo. 
No seas sabio en tu propia opinión; más bien, teme al SEÑOR y huye del mal. Esto infundirá salud a tu cuerpo y fortalecerá tu ser (Prov 3:7-8).
4. Sé generoo con todas tus pertenencias, y apasionado por la justicia. Comparte tu tiempo, talento y lo que más valoras con quienes tienen menos. 
Honra al SEÑOR con tus riquezas y con los primeros frutos de tus cosechas. Así tus graneros se llenarán a reventar y tus bodegas rebosarán de vino nuevo (Prov 3:9-10)
5. Acepta y aprende de las dificultades y el sufrimiento. A través del evangelio, reconoce en ellos no un castigo, sino un camino par ir siendo refinado. 
Hijo mío, no desprecies la disciplina del SEÑOR, ni te ofendas por sus reprensiones. Porque el SEÑOR disciplina a los que ama, como corrige un padre a su hijo querido (Prov 3:11-12).
Al meditar en estos cinco elementos--arraigado en su gracia, obedeciendo y encontrando deleite en su Palabra, humilde ante otras personas, generosamente sacrificado en favor del prójimo, y firme en medio de la prueba-- [no puedo menos que pensar] en Jesús. El Nuevo Testamento nos dice que, de hecho, la 'sabiduría divina' personificada del Antiguo Testamento es Jesús (Mt 11:19). Y me he dado cuenta que a) el mostró una confianza y fidelidad absoluta a Dios al ir a la cruz [lo cuál también muestra su fidelidad hacia nosotros], b) su vida era una vida saturada y moldeada por la Escritura, c) era manso y humilde de corazón (Mt. 11:28-30), d) aún siendo rico, se hizo pobre por nosotros, e) y sobrellevó sus sufrimientos, por nosotros, sin levantar queja. Sólo podemos crecer en estas cinco áreas si sabemos que hemos sido salvados por una gracia costosa. Ello te mantiene apartado de los ídolos, de la auto-suficiencia y el orgullo, de ser egoísta con tus cosas, y de desmoronarte ante las dificultades. Jesús es la sabiduría personificada, y creer en su evangelio trae estas características a tu vida. 
A lo largo de unas cuantas semanas he pasado tiempo orando por estas cinco cosas para mi familia y los líderes de mi iglesia. No hay una mejor manera de infundir esto que es tan grande en tu propio corazón, que orar intensamente para que se den en la vida de aquellos a quienes amas.
