Our Big Sib Little Sib (BSLS) kick off meeting is February 15th, 2018.  The detail of the meeting are below.  Big Sib Little Sib is Society of Women Engineers’ mentoring program.   It allows members to make new connections and build relationships within SWE.  Members are placed on BSLS families.  Families earn points throughout the semester and  the family with the most points at the end wins a prize!

This is the first update for the Fall 2015 Big Sib Little Sib Program. We’ve coordinated families for the fall semester based on similar majors grouping upperclassmen and underclassmen. We had the first kickoff event already but if anyone still wants to be placed in a family feel free to contact us at uwswementoring@gmail.com! Coming up we’re planning a study night for families to get together relax and work on homework. We will also be going to the farmers market on Capitol Square October 24th. Check out the SWE calendar to get the specifics!

Our goal through BSLS is to create a welcoming environment and a way for new and old members to network within the organization. There will be a friendly competition between families based on the number of events the families participate in. Other events will include monthly biweekly study nights, advising night, and much more!

We are working on getting everything finalized and in order for Day on Campus of 2013 and need YOUR help putting together our first mailing! This serves to inform prospective women of the College of Engineering of their opportunity to attend the event, to get to know the college, and, of course SWE!

If you would like to help out, come to TONG AUDITORIUM, this Thursday, February 28th, from 7-9pm and get FREE PIZZA in return! Remember to bring some study materials to study with your SWEsters, as always, as well.

There will be a study night on Thursday, December 6 in Union South from 6-7:30p, so check the TITU! This night will be winter-themed with decorations, cookie decorating, and hot cocoa! Come finish off the semester of studying with your family and all our other loving SWEsters! We will also announce the winning family of the BSLS family competition and award them their PRIZE! Some of the families are pretty close in points so participation this late in the semester still counts a lot! ALSO, be sure to attend officer elections, taking place right after the study night. Anyone who would like to participate in elections will make the short trek from the Union to 1610 E Hall. Kaylee and I will be going over, so you can join us! Make the choice to be informed about who leads this fantastic organization that we all love!

1. Thursday November 15 we are hosting a study night in Tong from 5-8p. This study night we will also be celebrating theWONDERFUL, SCRUMPTIOUS, AND DELICIOUS HOLIDAY OF THANKSGIVING! Please get in contact with your family asap and see who can all come, then sign up for a dish to pass. This only works if we get lots of family participation, so please help us out with this! The Mentoring Committee

This week we just have a few reminders about upcoming study nights and social events:

1. Thursday, November 1 we are hosting another study night in Tong from 6-8p. This study night will also serve as a co-op/internship panel so come with questions about interviews, courses, companies, and of course homework! We will have drinks and snacks. Don’t worry, this panel will not take up the entire study night so still come ready to get some studying done!

The SWEsters that will be present to answer questions:

– Wendy Wigstrom, CBE, study abroad experience and International Engineering Certificate

– Christina Wallhausser, ISYE, study abroad experience

– Kimmy Callan, EMA, International Engineering Certificate

– Lindy Couwenhoven, BME

– Abigail Heimel, Civil

– Amanda Blochowicz, ME

All of these girls have has co-op or internship experience.

There will also be many more SWEsters with work experience present at the study night, so if a SWEster on our panel can’t answer your question odds are there will someone present who can!

2. Thursday November 15 we are hosting another study night in Tong from 5-8p, but this night we will also be celebrating the WONDERFUL AND DELICIOUS HOLIDAY OF THANKSGIVING! Please get in contact with your family asap and see who can all come so we can send out the googledoc for food/dishes for each family to make. 4. One last reminder that this week is HOMECOMING WEEK! You will have lots of opportunities to represent SWE and hang out with your family! Mentoring is pairing with Special Events during this week, so GO TEAM SWE!

**Ten points/person will be awarded as opposed to the usual 5 points. If two (for three-person families) or three (for four-person families) members of your family participate in the same event, you will be awarded 15 points/person. If everyone in your family participates your family will be awarded 20 points/person.

Also, a reminder to be sure to support the Fundraising Committee and attend SWE’s Fall Ball! It will be lots of fun, and if you can prove in any way (a picture, for example) that you met up with a member of your family then we will award ten points for each member that you meet up with!
