Why "borrowed sweetness" you may be asking? When I think of my niece that's what comes to mind. Borrowed because I get to enjoy her and then return her, and sweetness, well take a look. She's super sweet and I cannot believe how fast she's growing. She lives a half a state away from us so we maybe see her once a year. This time I sort of planned to do a little photo shoot with her without telling anyone until the time came. So her two Aunties...myself and Aunt Suzy, borrowed her and off we went to a magical kingdom with fairy tale light. I had to do very little directing with this natural beauty. She's made for the camera I think! Dear Erika and Aunt Suzy, Ava and I enjoyed our time together and can't wait until next time! And as always, Suzy, you're the best assistant! We love you!

World, Meet Maxwell {Southern California Newborn Photographer}

This little guy came so fast. Not just that he was three weeks early either. But, that this past Summer, me and his mama had plans to go kayaking and horseback riding, and various other girl dates. She kept blowing me off and I just couldn't figure it out. Well, it was Max! Phewww. I really thought I ticked her off. haha! She just didn't want to tell anyone for a while just to be sure. I'm so happy for her and her hubby. They will be awesome parents and Max seriously has one of the best people for a Mom that I know. She's super sweet, super spicy, and a ton of fun. What combination could be better for a brand new life. I can't wait to change our girl dates to "mom" dates! I got to visit max on his 15th day for a little mini session. He was so good and so sleepy. Can't wait to hold you again Maxwell! XOXO So many people have asked about the moon... Here is how I made it... 1. I bought a 4x8 sheet of styrofoam from Home Depot for $15 2. My husband cut it into 3 equal pieces of 32 inches then glued them together with spray adhesive. 3. Then we drew the moon onto one side and he cut it out with a jig saw making it a depth of 6 inches-ish 4. Then we took an extra piece from the cut-off and glued it to the portion the baby was laying to make it thicker. Suitable to hold a baby. 5. I ordered the fabric from Etsy. I did a search for vintage yellow fabric bundle. This gave me the variety I wanted in vintage prints. It came in fat quarters and I ripped the fabric so that I didn't have perfect edges. I sprayed glued them onto the moon. 6. The final image is a composite of three images. One with baby on the moon, on the ground. One of the moon being held up by mama without baby, and one of just the backdrop. The moon is not actually suspended in the air. :) (thought I'd put that out there) Voila'! That's it. The whole project cost about $50 including the fabric and glue. It is also a really cute toddler prop. My daughter sat on it during Max's shoot and it was super cute!! Have Fun! Oh goodness.... Sweet, sweet, Rylan. As much whimsy as these photos hold for me is as much fun and whimsy that we had together. This is my cousin's little girl and I got to take her out for a little mini session while visiting my Nanny recently. She has so much sparkle and light that it's so fun to be around her. Even while editing I couldn't help but smiling the whole time remembering the day. I already can't wait until next time. We did all these set-ups in about 30 minutes. That's how fun she was. Don't get me wrong, there definitely was some bribery jelly beans in the mix but boy did they work! I love you guys! I hope you enjoy these as much as I did making them! xoxo

I met Rachel and Chris one cold afternoon last Winter at a sweet little coffee shop in Big Bear to talk about their engagement and their future wedding date. Wayyyyy in the future wedding date.. a whole year! She was on the ball when it came to planning and I loved it! I got to see them a few months later to do their engagement session and we had tons of fun at different locations on the mountain. I honestly cannot believe that their wedding day came so fast. But it did and it was beautiful! The day was not without it's challenges, some i saw and I'm sure, many that I didn't see. But the biggest one on my mind was the threat of rain! Really!? C'mon!! But guess what, rain never came. It sure did threaten to though. The sky was gray and moist but not one drop of rain fell on their beautiful day. I loved the hustle of the day. The fun bridal party girls were full of energy and spunk. (girls, don't be mad at me for the funny faces! I couldn't resist sharing your spirit!) The guys were cool and calm, just hanging out for the day to start. We tried not to get ran over by some impatient city drivers who really didn't like us in the street. But we had to get the shot! And we did. I loved Rachel's Dad. He disliked his photo taken and I really enjoyed catching him off guard. It was like a friendly game of cat and mouse. He was a good sport about it. I was enchanted with the small and charming grounds of the French Estate in Orange County. There were little bits of love in the details all over. And Rachel and her team really did a beautiful job of making those small things important. So pretty! Cinderella Couture {Orange County Beach Photo Session}

I love this couple! I photographed their wedding on September 17th, 2011. Then I got to see them again a few months ago for their Mom and Dad's family session. We decided to take advantage of the trip down to Orange County so we also shot their Cinderella Couture session on the same day. It was a tight schedule but we made it work. The sun was nowhere to be found but still it was a beautiful day. I think even cave light would be beautiful on these two. Just look at how he looks at her...pure love. It was a good thing we were able to shoot this because as it turns out these two love birds will be pushing a baby carriage soon! Yay! Congrats to the both of you! Stephanie first called me from the Antelope Valley in February to schedule her family session. But due to calendar craziness and weather issues we had to postpone until just last week. I have to share something about being a photographer. I think I've said it before but it really is such a blessing to be editing a family and feel so connected to them, as if they are my own family. I share their joys and when I get to see the love in the photos it's really something special. I cherish it for certain. I have been photographing this family for almost two years and I think I've gotten to see them four or five times in that two years. I love every session that I've spent with them. They are so inspirational and wonderful. Their two sweet little girls are so beautiful and they are the best parents a girl could ever ask for. They came to Big Bear for their family session and while I'm sure it was a huge undertaking with two little ones and a tired hubby, I hope that these photos will have made the trip all worth it. I haven't blogged in ages it seems but I stole some time to share this one..... Oh my goodness. The camera loves these two. And they love each other. And I loved taking their photos. Love all around. These two are probably on a flight back home from Paris, having celebrated their First Anniversary. Congratulations you two! I hope you had a blast together, making memories that will last your lifetime. I met Monica during the Summer when she called to inquire about photos. She was super sweet and I was excited to schedule their session almost five months down the road. Honestly I forgot all about it until it snuck right up on us. My Ava turns the big FIVE... {Big Bear Lake Photographer}

My sweet Ava Lacey turned 5 in July. I am overwhelmed with the joy she brings me everyday. I love to watch life and wonder unfold in her. To be honest though, the thought of her growing older and well, more independent, is a bit sad to me. I don't think i'm the only mommy who feels that way. I hope not anyway. I told her that she wasn't allowed to get older than four... she didn't listen. And not only that but she is so excited to grow older that the day after her fourth party she was already planning her fifth birthday party. Down to the guest list and decorations. She is so funny! I guess I'll let her get older. I don't have a choice do I? And I know i'm going to enjoy it anyhow. Every year is a new adventure with a more well-rounded, beautiful little person. I am so blessed. And so thankful that God gave her to us. And even though I do enjoy these little years I also daydream of the day when I see her married and hold her first baby (among other milestones I get to share with her). So for this shoot I wanted to capture a bit of her spirit. I hope to have these when I'm old and gray and to be able to recall all the little things that made her sparkle at five. Like when she concentrates or thinks something is silly she sticks out her tongue. Glad I caught that on camera. Or when she puts on that lavender dress she instantly feels so beautiful you can see it in the way she carries herself. Or when she finds a flower to pick she is so determined. You can't tell her she can't do something, she won't believe you. She "knows" she can. I love that about her. In our house we tell her she is "small but mighty". She now says that to her brother when he challenges her with something. So funny. Her voice is so small and sweet but get her excited and you've never heard anything so squeaky! It's amazing how much squeak she produces. lol! Her legs are so little but she moves them so fast it's hard for anyone to keep up, and she runs almost everywhere she goes. Her husband will need a power chair to keep up with her when she's shopping. She is so independent yet she'll want to have cuddle time with me every night. She loves to dress pretty but also loves the dirt. I enjoy dressing her so much and I would usually be a panic mess about her getting stains on her nice clothes. (they are so expensive these days!) But I've realized that my enjoying how she's dressed isn't her fault. I need to let her get dirty and if that means wrecking her clothes so she has fun and I can still enjoy her cuteness then so be it! She's only little once. Anyway, if you've made it this far thank you for sticking around and listening to my mommy ramblings. Her and big brother are really what this is all about for me.

Sweet little Tehya came to visit me for her one year old cake smash a few weeks ago with her mommy and big sisters. She's the cutest, petite, little girl ever. She's also the most mobile one year old I think I've ever met. We tried everything to keep her in one place but most attempts just reminded us that keeping a little one still is next to impossible. The cake part was a bit more tricky but we managed to keep her interested for just long enough. She's a lucky little one because her big sisters are really super sweet. Growing up with them will be tons of fun. Thank you M family!!

I was so excited to hear from Erika a few months ago when she called about a family session that she and her Mom really wanted to gift to Dad. I had shot her wedding last September and I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing from my clients again. I really feel blessed to get to know them after a few sessions. ;) This time I drove down to their neck of the land for a beach session. Admittedly, I really felt out of my comfort zone at the beach. It's a whole other beast when it comes to settings and light etc. We shot really late too so I had that ISO cranked high for some of them. And even though it was overcast for most of the shoot it was really so beautiful and really nice to change up my normal scenery too. They told me that they had gone a whole different direction with their clothing choices but I had no idea they would look this cool until I saw them. Dad is a fashion guru and helped everyone work it all out. What a perfect combo. Thank you so much E family for inviting me out and trusting me, again, to capture your family. Sweet little Madison. I really didn't think that her parents could make another baby as sweet and beautiful as her older sister Kaitlyn but they proved me wrong. She got an extra helping of both sweet AND beautiful for sure. And lucky for me she had a healthy dose of "sleepy" too. I don't usually travel these days for newborn shoots but this family has an actual carnival on their sprawling property. Not just a few carnival rides set up, like I thought, but it's actually landscaped and layed out beautifully and proffessionally. They just amaze me. I wish I could be their kid or at least a relative! lol. Her Daddy entertained my two kiddos for hours out there on the rides while I photographed Madison. He's so patient. They had the best time. Dear G family, you guys are really inspiring and I'm happy to know you. Thank you for coming back time and time again for me to be able to capture all your special milestones. Sweet, dear, Sophia. I love working with her. It's really inspirational for me when I sit down to edit and I feel like I'm on another adventure all over again, with a smile from ear to ear. That's a treasure for me as an artist. I planned this session around her. Shopping for clothing and items that would fit her and it worked out magically. Etsy was my shop for the dress, vintage crayons, and coloring book. And I collected little things along the way. But mostly all I needed was Sophia and some beautiful mountain light... and my sweet husband who ran back and forth to the car to get all the things I needed. Sweet baby Greta is another little miracle that I had the blessing of photographing recently. I met her momma and daddy a few months ago when I did their maternity session in Beaumont. We had such a good time and the story of little Greta made me all the more excited to meet her. When her big first photo session came though she had other ideas of how it should go. She didn't sleep very much and I think altitude did a regulating magic trick on her little tummy. In the meantime though, I was able to pose her Mommy's first bear, given to her by her Grandma when she was just a baby. What!!?? I HAD to keep photographing! lol! The miracle of life never ceases to stir wonder and awe in my heart. How a life can form inside a mother is just simply a beautiful miracle to me. I've been getting to know the G family a lot lately. I photographed Miss Kaitlyn when she was born and then again at her one year cake smash. That's when Mom told me that Kaitlyn was going to be a big sister! YAY!! I also was able to photograph K again for her new modeling career recently. She is one of prettiest babies I've ever seen, and one of the happiest too. She's got good parents and her little sister will be in good hands. I can't wait to meet sweet baby Madison! Thank you G family for allowing me to capture your life's most wonderful adventures! My Family's Lemonade Stand... {Southern California Photographer}

Lemons make me happy. Yellow is my favorite color and nothing says yellow quite like a lemon. There are so many things you can make with lemons and this time I decided to make my family session out of them. We did so much for this session and it was really fun. We even found the old wood on craigslist for my husband to make the lemonade stand with. It was so much fun that we shot the session twice. The first time my sweet friend Laura was going to take them for us but her lens needed to see the doctor. So the second time I went out with a Vello Wireless Remote and took the family photos myself. I have to say, I was really worried about doing that but it was REALLY fun! Every photographer should try it out on their own family atleast once. I learned a few tricks from doing this too.... I told the kids that for every smile and eye contact with the camera they got one jelly bean. This worked because they were a bit competitive to see who could get the most jelly beans. So each pose I'd run over and tally their scores and then we'd see who could do better the next time. Then I learned that imperfections of my own family photos feel really endearing. They are real and that's okay with me. I can't wait to put them on my walls. And last but not least I really suck at smiling for the camera for some reason. When I was a teenager I was queen of self portraits but now, not so much. I look really stiff when someone else takes them but a "little" less stiff when I have a remote in my hand and no one expects anything from me on the other side of that camera except me. It really took the pressure off so I could focus on my family. Ahhhh, sweet sigh. I love that i'll have these forever and I can't wait to get that flush mount album I ordered. Once upon a time there was this really sweet Wedding Planner. She had ideas for a steampunk/victorian styled wedding that she wanted to create and she asked if I would do the photography. I had the chance of working at a beautiful wedding with her once before and so I knew that she had fabulous taste and the gift of a great imagination. So I said no. Just kidding! I said YES PLEASE! :) I LOVE shoots like this. Putting things together and dreaming up possibilities keeps me going, so we got straight to the planning. Everything came together so perfectly. The ideas, the models, the help, the location, the makeup, the flowers. I mean, I knew it would be great but I had no idea it would be this beautiful. The models, Ami-Rose and Jared are so stinking cute too, and yes, married in real life. I had a blast with the two of them. I wonder if I can talk them into another shoot someday? :) And I can't thank enough, the owners of the beautiful historic Morey Mansion in Redlands, CA for allowing us to use their property. Tiffanie & Eric {Big Bear Lake Arrowhead Wedding Photographer}

What a beautiful day this was. The love, the details, the intimate setting, the location, everything. Tiffanie and Eric are both designers so when we talked about their day I wasn't prepared for the thoughtful details and ambience they were able to create. It was a small, but mighty wedding. And one I'll not forget anytime soon. And I'm sure thier guests feel the same way as well. The couple is from Orange County but have often come to the mountains as a getaway, so Big Bear was the perfect destination for their nuptials. It was rainy and stormy the day before and I have to admit I was a little worried, but the sun came out and the day was just beautiful. I got to whisk them away for a little while to capture photographs all over Big Bear before heading to Knickerbocker Mansion for their beautiful dinner reception. Tiffanie and Eric, I wish you love that grows deep like the roots of a giant tree with each passing day, for a commitment that cannot be broken by the bumps in life, and the ability to choose love even when the feeling is sometimes not there. I recently got to spend some time with R around Big Bear for her senior photos. We had fun stopping at little pocket locations around town. She brought her most loyal friend through her highschool years, her dog. I was hesitant at first, not knowing how a dog would be near the roads and with all the excitement but he was really good and I'm excited for her to have photos with him for the rest of her life. I had this photo in mind with her prom dress and the snow and lucky for me she was such a trooper. I think it was 35 degrees when we shot this and she danced around out there for me while I got the settings just right. It was fun hanging with you R! Enjoy!

I know somewhere that there is a much better quote for this Mommy but I can't find it! She's beautiful inside and out and her children will surely rise up and call her blessed.

She came over a few weeks ago with her sweet little ones for this session and I'm so happy it worked out. Her little guy didn't want a whole lot to do with that black monstrosity I held to my face and pointed at him, but I was able to grab some sweet photos of him none the less. One of the lovely things about a great small town is that she is the sister of one of my past models, our piano teacher, a gym mate, she understands my crazy eating and health habits and gives me good advice about it too, and I also call her friend.

I met Chris and Rachel last year at a quaint little coffee shop in the Big Bear Village to talk about their wedding in Orange County this year and to decide on their engagement photos. They really wanted a snowy winterland engagement session since Big Bear is where their heart is. No problemo! You want snow, we got it, right? WRONG! This Winter had a mind of it's own. It literall would. not. snow. Then finally we got something we could work with and luckily they were able to come up from Orange County on really short notice so that we could shoot in the fresh snow.
