The October BDC Challenge focused on a slightly different character from the Firefly series - the ever popular Wash dinosaurs!

This chain bracelet is representing Wash's dinosaurs in little wooden figures. They are shown with trees because who can forget Wash brushing the trees off of the sonar.

The chain is silver plated and boosts a toggle clasp. It will fit most wrists as it is approx. 7 1/2" to the toggle.

Curse Your Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal by Gypsyharte

"Mine is an evil Laugh!

A candy bright green T-Rex and a zesty yellow Stegosaur hand sculpted out of high quality polymer clay earrings. Coated with acrylic glaze with shiny results! A little asymmetrical, but hey some people like that. Whimsical and geeky, they are a fitting tribute to our favorite spaceship pilot.

The T-Rex is approx 1 1/2" tall x 1" wide The Stego is 2" long x 1" wide. They are made of the made of the same amount of clay, so one shouldn't be heavier than the other. They come with French style hypo-allergenic ear wires.

One year ago today, in the middle of a thread in Etc. on the Etsy forums that Siarh started for fun a few weeks earlier, a group of Browncoats started the Big Damn Crafters (BDC). Since then we have grown in numbers, and grown into a close group.

Browncoats have always been known to be a conglomeration of folks from all walks of life and styles. The Big Damn Crafters are certainly no different. But that underlying love of the 'verse has brought us all together. Yes, we may differ on who was the most outstanding crew member and who was someone we would have left at the first port of harbor, but we do not deny our love of Joss Whedon's genius, and wonderful show!

We'd like to invite anyone who is in the team to kick up thier heels and celebrate our fabulous team. If you aren't in the team, you are more than welcome to join us in our excitement.

Decapitated Dollies - Jayne Cobb - Crocheted Plush Head by scarywhitegirl

While Jayne Cobb lived through the series Firefly and the movie Serenity, he is, as Simon says, in a dangerous line of work. While scarywhitegirl leaves Jayne's cause of decapitation deliberately vague, there's no denying that he's awfully cute when his head is disconnected from his body.

Jayne has dark brown hair (including a mustache and goatee) and hazel green eyes. He wears his signature hat that his ma made for him.

Each Decapitated Dollie comes with his or her very own "death certificate," which lists his or her name, date of death, and cause of death. The back of each "death certificate" is made of patterned cardstock- i n the case of this set, the cardstock is black with silver skulls and bones, arranged in hexagons.

Kodo here is a rectangular Kafma with long light purple fur. He loves to play D&D, so he comes equipped with a "Monster Manual" book and a small organza bag with three tiny D6 inside. He seems to have acquired a taste for gaming dice, actually.

Kodo measures 5.5" (14 cm) across and 7.5" (21 cm) long on the outside. The inside is lined with a light blue fabric that has been serged for maximum longevity. He has a black drawstring that will keep the opening tightly closed to keep your dice inside and safe.

Outside fur is a faux fur, inside is a cotton blend fabric. Monster Manual book is made from white and brown felt and acrylic paint. Kodo's dice bag is organza with 3 plastic white on black 6-sided dice inside. The organza bag was sewn shut and then sewn on, while the book has been assembled with fabric glue and attached in the same way.

This little witch is a difficult lady. Completely stubborn, she always insists on having her way. Her few female friends try to tell her that this is why she's still unmarried but she's already determined that she's been single for so long, there's no reason SHE should have to change her ways just to please some man. Besides, she certainly has more important things to look to - potions to develop and perfect, spells to practice, books to read and write, and plenty of local witchery to do for folks (for a fee, of course).

Ah, but Halloween...that's a night to celebrate! The local magical community, Storkop's Wizarding Association of Magical People (SWAMP), has their annual ball on this night, with a general invitation to all magical beings in the area. Lenora has decked herself in a new dress, her prettiest shoes, and her best velvet hat.

Lenora is 11" tall without her hat and 16.5" tall with her hat. Both the hat and scroll are removable; the hat has pins to hold it in place. She's hand sculpted from Darwi air-dry clay (with epoxy clay at the neck to strengthen it) over a wire armature. Her torso is wire covered in batting and can be very slightly posed to help with balancing her for standing.

Painted with watercolors and acrylics (her skin has a light, sparkly green wash on it) and varnished for protection. The clothing is a mix of materials including some rainbow star netting perfect for a witch. Her hair is black boucle yarn, glued firmly in a pile atop her head. The hat was also made entirely by hand with a stiff cardstock form covered in black velvet-like material. She has three Swarovski crystal beads (2 on her shoes and 1 as her belt buckle).

Lenora is an art doll and not suitable for children or for playing with.

Frippery by inlerah

"Say, look at the fluffy one!"

Kaylee, one of inerlah's favorite characters, sees a frilly pink dress in a store window and falls in love with its layers of ruffles. This yarn was inspired by the dress itself, and also by the idea of embracing your inner girly-girl.

Spun from a beautiful batt of superwash wool blended with white glitz (from fellow etsyian terrabellaspun), this yarn changes gradually from cream to pink to raspberry. It has been plied with 1 strand of pearl metallic thread and 1 strand of white laceweight mohair to add more sparkle and create a soft and beautiful yarn.

Shindig by omshanti

Inara: Are you in pain?
Mal: Absolutely, I got stabbed you know, right here.
[lifts shirt to show a bloodstained bandage on side of abdomen]
Inara: I saw.
Mal: I don't care much for fancy parties. Too rough.
Inara: It wasn't entirely a disaster.
Mal: [lifts his shirt again] I got stabbed. Right here.

This beautiful necklace is another Firefly reference, but this time it's taken a piece directly from the show - the necklace Inara wears during the duel where Mal gets stabbed 'right here'.

Amethyst beads a full 10 mm in diameter form the drops in the front, separated and set off by smaller quartz beads. Depending from them are small brass bells which chime gently as you move - perhaps to dance?

The necklace itself is made up of smaller amethyst beads, along with the quartz, and will cling close to your throat at 17" long. It's held in place by a signature handmade clasp.

Ice Planet Pop by scarywhitegirl

"My food is problematic."

As fans of Firefly, you'll probably recognize this item right away. It's a reproduction of the "ice planet" that River and Book eat (or try to eat) in the episode "The Message." Although this version isn't edible, it would make for a pretty sweet prop if you plan to cosplay as River (or Book, I suppose).

The planet itself is crocheted from a yarn containing wool (70% acrylic, 20% wool, 10% nylon), and stuffed with fiberfill. The string is braided cotton yarn, with small paper stars glued onto the string. The stick is a square shaped dowel rod.

The ice planet measures 10 1/2" (27 cm) at the largest point of its circumference. The dowel rod is 12" long (30.5 cm).

River Tam Plush Character by lizstaley

How adorable! A sweet little River Tam plushie, complete with a removable Ice Planet!

The body is made from tan buttersuede fabric and her hair is dark brown buttersuede. She's stuffed with all-new polyester fiberfill and her facial features are painted on with black, brown, and white acrylic paint. River is wearing a cute pink dress and matching shrug. Her Ice Planet is a white pom-pom strung on a double strand of thread and then adorned with a red, yellow, and blue felt star and glued inside of a light brown felt "stick". The cool Ice Planet treat attaches to her arm with a loop of elastic.

Upcycled from an old pair of jeans, a lime green sheer and lace blouse, this apron features 5 functional pockets and lots of special detailing.

The bulk of the apron is denim. The button fly has been removed completely, and the raw edges are finished off with lime green cotton quilt binding. Across the bottom of the apron, the lace and sheer fabric has been pieced together in a ruffle, with the stitching following the curves in the lace in some spots. The sash is constructed from a portion of the sheer lime green fabric with interfacing attached and the sleeves of the shirt. The sash is tacked down in the center so that it doesn't slide out.

The remaining waistband of the jeans measures approximately 28" (71 cm), and the sash is approximately 60" (152.5 cm). This apron will fit any waist size from about 28" (or a little smaller) to about 50", to allow for enough of the sash to tie. At the center of the apron, the length is 17 1/2" (44.5 cm), and at the sides of the apron, the length is 13 1/2"(34 cm).
