IRON MAN 2

Went to see Iron Man 2 and liked it but not as much as the first one. Robert Downey Jr. stole the show once again and really is Tony Stark delivering his lines as if he were making it up as he went along (in fact I read that there was a lot of improv going on during much of the shoot). The interactions between the characters more often then not were more enjoyable than the action sequences. Mickey Rourke makes a great villain...just wish he was given more to do but with an actor of his caliber a look can be worth a thousand words. It was nice seeing a movie based on a comic book where protecting one's secret identity came into play but rather what happens to the hero who does not hide behind the mask. Cool New Star Trek Film

Well, I went to see the new Star Trek film. I saw it in Imax and I must say that although I enjoyed the film in Imax and didn't mind paying the extra money to do so ($15.50 admission) not sure the IMAX experience would be worth it for just any movie. The picture was crisp, the sound was very loud and clear, and yes the screen was bigger, but would I pay IMAX admission to just any movie? The answer would be no. For certain types of films such as this one, heavy on action and big in scope, it was worth it but for a film like Monsters and Aliens I'm glad I went to see it in a non-IMAX theater.

As for the film it was good but as a fan of Star Trek from its beginnings it did not blow me away with the feeling that I just have to see it again. I'm glad that the new film respected many of the elements (Thank you Mr. Nimoy for putting on those ears one more time) that have made Star Trek such a sci-fi icon and has and will continue to draw non-fan viewers to the theaters because this guarantees that there will be more new Star Trek in the future. I thought the new Bones and Spock did the best job at capturing the essence of the original characters. The new Scotty, although having some funny moments, needed to be a little more serious and Uhura was sexy. No complaints there. As for the new Kirk, well you really can't compare to the original as the film is very clever in the way they allow for a different kind of Kirk to evolve. Chekov and Sulu did a good job as well. The special effects were excellent. So, overall I was happy with the movie and can't wait to see where they take it from here as the next film has all ready been green lighted. Hannah Montana The Movie

Just took my twelve year old daughter to see the Hannah Montana Movie and she loved it and to be honest I actually liked it. Sure the story has been told a hundred times before,...someone travels home to find his or herself because he/she has lost her/his way...but somehow it seemed as if I were watching a fairly fresh take. Billy Ray and Miley share some nice moments together in the second half of the film and Miley does have a screen presence and yes, she can act. The songs and musical numbers are well done and the Tenessee landscape is a beautiful backdrop to the story. So if you have kids that are Hannah Montana fans take them to see the movie. Terminator Salvation, the fourth film in the Terminator franchise, is coming out soon and finally we get to see the future and John Connor all grown up. The first three films were good and let's face it the role of the Terminator was one that Arnold was born for. I've been watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles on Fox and it seems to be a great bridge between the old films and new film. See those robots from the future at Cool Stuff.

What Happened To Saturday Mornings?

I remember watching Land Of The Lost on Saturday mornings. Getting up before my parents, grabbing my bowl of Captain Crunch and sitting in front of the TV to watch cartoons and so forth from 7:00am to noon. Saturday morning TV has changed and is no longer the safe haven for kids. The classics such as Looney Tunes and those great Sid & Marty Kroft Productions have disappeared to be replaced for the most part by repeats of live-action shows from the network's cable channels if there are no sporting events to show. Saturday mornings use to be sacred ground.

I showed my kids some old Land Of The Lost episodes on DVD and they loved them. Kids are the same, just Saturdays have changed. Hollywood has not forgotten the Saturday mornings of yesterday and I look forward to seeing the new Land Of The Lost film that is coming out. I just hope they are selling Captain Crunch at the snack bar. Get Lost again at Cool Stuff.

Elvis The King Lives At Cool Stuff

My family owned an ice cream parlour for over 25 years and my oldest daughter, now 12, spent much of the first seven years of her life there listening to old 78 records on our Wurlitzer Juke Box. Among those records were several selections by the great Elvis Presley and to this day my daughter loves everything Elvis. She listens to his music and has Elvis collectibles throughout her room. Records From The 70's & 80's

When I was growing up in the 70's and 80"s I liked all kinds of music and purchased all kinds of records. I treated them with care and eventually they made their way into storage making way for the CD. Now with the advent of download music and its mobility with the various electronic storage devices I think what made music so special has disappeared. When you wanted to listen to a record it was an event...gently removing it from its paper sleeve...holding it on its edges so not to get thumbprints on it....laying it on the turntable...floating the needle down to the record's surface...then you would really listen to the explosion of sound. Today with ear buds practically surgically attached to people's ears music has been become like elevator music, playing but not being really listened to. Plus I think the sound off vinyl is better to the ear than digital music. Last summer I went to the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas but more importantly went to ride The Star Trek Experience attraction at the Hilton before they closed it down forever. The convention just happened to be going on at the Hilton as well and having never been to one decided to check it out. It was not as big as I expected but there was some cool merchandise including movie posters promoting the new film. Star Trek Bobble Heads From Funko

Around 70 days until the new Star Trek movie is released and if you saw the trailer that aired during the SuperBowl it looks to be action packed. Watching the Enterprise swoop in with double phasers firing was a sight to behold and knowing that Leonard Nimoy (who I got to see speak at the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas last year) will be in it to provide some connection to the original cast is great. Too bad they killed Kirk off (or is he still alive in the Nexus?). No matter how flashy the new movie is the original series will live on as my favorite. Call me sentimental but its the one I grew up with and now Funko has come up with a line of bobble heads paying homage to those characters that started it all. Some even come with sound. Twilight Action Figure Set

Twilight, first the book was a huge success and that was followed up with the hit movie. Seems as if the love story between a vampire and a young woman is something many folks can't get enough of. HBO has even jumped on this band wagon with its series True Blood. Now NECA is scheduled for an April release a 2-pack action figure set featuring Edward & Bella as depicted in the Twilight film. The History of Coca-Cola:

In May, 1886, Coca Cola was invented by Doctor John Pemberton a pharmacist from Atlanta, Georgia. John Pemberton concocted the Coca Cola formula in a three legged brass kettle in his backyard. The name was a suggestion given by John Pemberton's bookkeeper Frank Robinson. Being a bookkeeper, Frank Robinson also had excellent penmanship. It was he who first scripted "Coca Cola" into the flowing letters which has become the famous logo of today. The soft drink was first sold to the public at the soda fountain in Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta on May 8, 1886.

About nine servings of the soft drink were sold each day. Sales for that first year added up to a total of about $50. The funny thing was that it cost John Pemberton over $70 in expanses, so the first year of sales were a loss.

A Long Time Ago....

In a Galaxy far, far away...maybe even a longer time ago than we all realize...We posted about Star Wars. Who can forget it?....30 years ago, standing in line, (in the rain in my case) waiting to see a movie that has now become an institution unto itself. Children whose parents themselves were children when the original movies came out love these movies today...they're classics - especially the originals (the new ones, notsomuch in my opinion, but they do have their place and followings).

If you've ever wanted to be in a Star Wars movie, here's your chance (even if it's just a clip to put onto your Christmas card DVD's!) Star Wars Mashups. If you're even more into Star Wars and don't yet have a blog, you can get your own personal Star Wars blog for free at Star Wars Blog.

Entertainment Weekly even touts that a Star Wars TV series is in the works read about it - of course, the writer's strike is sure to gum up the works for this project.
