And I think that movie rocks, for a lot of different reasons. One thing I really liked was the little speech her dad gives her, towards the end of the movie:

Juno MacGuff: I'm losing my faith in humanity.
Mac MacGuff: Think you can narrow it down for me?
Juno MacGuff: I guess I wonder sometimes if people ever stay together for good.
Mac MacGuff: You mean like couples?
Juno MacGuff: Yeah, like people in love.
Mac MacGuff: Are you having boy troubles? I gotta be honest; I don't much approve of dating in your condition, 'cause well... that's kind of messed up.
Juno MacGuff: Dad, no!
Mac MacGuff: Well, it's kind of skanky. Isn't that what you girls call it? Skanky? Skeevy?
Juno MacGuff: Please stop now.
Mac MacGuff: [persisting] Tore up from the floor up?
Juno MacGuff: Dad, it's not about that. I just need to know if it's possible for two people to stay happy together forever, or at least for a few years.
Mac MacGuff: It's not easy, that's for sure. Now, I may not have the best track record in the world, but I have been with your stepmother for 10 years now and I'm proud to say that we're very happy.
[Juno nods]
Mac MacGuff: In my opinion, the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what have you, the right person will still think the sun shines out your ass. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what have you, the right person will still think the sun shines out your ass. That’s the kind of person that’s worth sticking with.” Is it just me, or does that sound really great? To find somebody that “thinks the sun shines out your ass”? I mean yeah, it’s simplistic, and obviously there’s gonna be moments in relationships where one or both of the partners don’t particularly like each other, and would rather move on to other things that are less stressful, and easier to deal with, but I really like the advice as it pertains to dating and possibly marrying. Should I ask myself, “Becky? Does this person think the sun shines out your ass?” And obviously you have to have some other standards when considering a relationship. They might think the sun shines out your ass, but what if they’re a complete jerk to everybody else? Or what if you have nothing in common, except that you just like to be around each other? It's at least a good starting point, right?
<img width='1' height='1' I was totally inspired by the speech he gives, so I decided to write it out, so I could look at it, and share it with my little online community;

Dad, Mom? It’s me. I’m calling from seattle grace hospital where the… the beautiful, talented and incredibly stubborn Dr. Isobel Stevens has… well, she’s just given me a brand-new heart and promised to marry me. I know we’ve had our differences and I’m sorry we’ve been out of touch. Believe it or not, I was trying to make everything better. I know you’re angry. And I hope you’ll forgive me. It turns out sometimes you have to do the wrong thing… Sometimes you have to make a big mistake… to figure out how to make things right.

Mistakes are painful. But, they’re the only way to find out who you really are. I know who I am now. I know what I want. Strange Brew: Two drunks get trapped in a beer factory, that’s ran by an evil brew-master. Oh, and the evil brew-master is trying to take over the world. Muh-hahahah…. Anyways, the movie is based off of some sketches on SCTV (kinda a Canadian SNL). It has classic lines like, “take off, you hoser!”, and “The breaks are out. No point in steering now”. There’s also a dog, that looks like a skunk, that has the power to fly. How awesome is that???

4. Jingle all the Way: Long before Arnie was the gova-nator, and way back when Sinbad was still really cool, this movie premiered. Ah-nold plays a workaholic dad, that’s trying to get his son a Turbo Man action figure, the same toy that every other boy in America wants. He spends the day searching for the toy, along with Sinbad, an on-edge postal worker, Look for Phil Hartman has the neighbor, Ted (he steals the show). Classic lines; “ ‘Where’s your mom? ‘she’s outside, pettin’ Ted.’”, and “Liz is in the shower, do you want me to go get her?”

3. One crazy summer: Really cool, quirky movie from director John Savage (Better off Dead). Starring John Cusack, he plays a kid fresh outta high school, trying to figure out what to do with his life. His friends and him spend the summer in Cape Cod, where they meet up with an aspiring singer, played by Demi Moore. Also starring Jeremy Piven as, you guessed it, Cusack’s best friend. There’s also a lobster torturing bad guy. Awesome lines: “Chili dog?” and “Check out those really ugly kids!”

2. Mrs. Doubtfire: One of my fav’s when I was a kid. This has Robin Williams at his comedic best! He plays a new divorcee that dresses up as an old woman, to get a job as his ex-wife’s housekeeper, all so he can keep spending time with his kids. Sally Fields plays the ex-wife, and Pierce Brosnan plays her new beau. A fun, family movie that everyone will enjoy. Great lines; “toodaloo!” and “it was a drive-by fruiting!”

1. Captain Ron: Coming in at #1, is this classic Kurt Russell/Martin Short comedy. Short plays a work-obsessed father who inherits an old sailboat, and hires a crusty Kurt Russell, to sail it for him and his family. The classic tale of a father wanting to spend more time with his family, but the family ends up liking the chill Capt’n, better than the dad. Unoriginal plot, but great slapstick comedy is the key to what would be an otherwise boring movie. Classic Russell line; “it’s just a tattoo, boss.”

Lolcats & me

I did my first Lolcats pic at Icanhascheezburger.com, in honor of my friend's b-day. But, this is sooo me. I guess when you think of it, in the grand scheme of things, updating comments, and correcting people on their inaccurate assumptions, doesn't do a whole lot of good. There are probably other productive things I could be spending my time on. So, I decided to put out the plea to fake Steve Jobs. And... this morning, it was featured in fake Steve Jobs blog. I just sent an email to El Rushbo, letting him know he was featured in the fake blog, so I guess we'll see if he mentions it on today's show. I thought it would be cool to see fake Steve Jobs talk about Rush, but I didn't realize how mean people would be in the comments section of the blog. The people that leave those kind of messages, must just be angry all the time. They write hateful, hurtful things, and I don't get why they attack someone personally over what is said politically. Are there any happy liberals out there? If you're one of them, lemme know. Anywho, I think Steve Jobs should be thanking Rush Limbaugh for mentioning his products on the air. Rush has the biggest radio audience in history. Steve Jobs just got free advertising. Maybe a nice little monogrammed thank you card is in order?

Will I use my super powers for good or evil???

For "Thing a day" Theresa is an inspiration to me. She recommend a book, by William Styron called "Darkness Visible", which I've been reading, and found useful in this discussion.

Theresa's post here, inspired me to give my opinion when it comes to mental illness and the "realness" of it

Heath Ledger’s death or maybe the reaction to his death has struck a deep chord in my soul. Whether he intentionally overdosed on drugs or his death was an accident, hasn’t been determined yet, but that doesn’t stop the speculation. Reading a couple of articles about Heath Ledger’s death and how some of his family are quick to say, “oh no, he wouldn’t do that, “ in regards to him committing suicide, makes me ponder about why they would rather believe he died accidently as opposed to him taking his own life. Either way, he’s still dead. I get that with suicide, family and friends are left to deal with the implications of guilt and blame, and the unanswered questions; Could I have prevented this? Could I have helped them? But, say they did commit suicide. Does that mean they have a lesser character than the person that accidently died? Does it mean they are damned to hell? Or does it mean something else?

I’ve been reading a book called “Darkness Visible; a Memoir of Madness” by William Styron. He recalls his personal struggle with depression and the struggles of those surrounding him in the literary community. One story he recounts is of this professor that died when his car swerved into a semi. He was killed instantly. The coroner’s report ruled it a suicide. The community rallied and protested, saying he was, “a good man”, with “strong moral fiber”, and he just wouldn’t have done something like that. The coroner, weeks later, changed his report to saying that the death was “accidental”. Styron talks about how everyone that was close to this professor, knew he was depressed, and had in fact attempted suicide a few months earlier than the car crash. Styron wrote,

“Randall Jarrell almost certainly killed himself. He did so not because he was a coward, nor out of any moral feebleness, but because he was afflicted with a depression that was so devastating that he could no longer endure the pain of it.”

Heath Ledger’s death caused me to pause and consider the stigma surrounding mental illness. Some people might not “believe” in depression or they might encourage their friends that show signs of mental illness to “snap out of it”. Or they might accuse those on medication of “rely(ing) on pills for every little emotion” or “sickness” that comes their way.
I think there’s wisdom in the words of William Stryon in an editorial to the New York Times after the death of his friend:

“The pain of severe depression is quite unimaginable to those that have not suffered it, and it kills in many instances because it’s anguish can no longer be borne. The prevention of many suicides will continue to be hindered until there is a general awareness of the nature of this pain. Through the healing process of time, and through medical intervention or hospitalization in many cases, most people survive depression, which may be its only blessing; but to the tragic legion who are compelled to destroy themselves there should be no more reproof attached than to the victims of terminal cancer.”

I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on the subject of mental health. I’m only on my way to getting a bachelor’s in psychology. And I’ve also struggled with depression from an early childhood age. I just feel that I need to convey what I and countless others have experienced. Depression is real, and can make a huge impact, even take a life.

Whether you want to call mental illness such as depression or bipolar or schizophrenia a disease or a disorder, I don’t care. But, DO NOT DISCOUNT IT. It’s been my personal experience that mental illness is absolutely real, and absolutely CANNOT be ignored. I have a message for those of you that are sick and tired of people “relying on pills”. For those people that consider depressives to be “lazy” For those that think that mental illness doesn’t exist. Listen up:

How dare you judge me or anybody else for taking medication to better my psychological and physical health. I take my medication for my own well-being, and for the people that love me, and want to see me succeed in life. I take it to live a productive life. It would be irresponsible of me to stop taking the medication that I take, simply because it’s “frowned upon” or taboo in casual conversations. I could go along with the crowd, and try to “think positive thoughts” or fall in line with everybody else while a storm rages on in my brain. I could go along, unquestioning life, perhaps Brave New World style, but I choose to improve myself. For those people, and you know who you are, I’m asking that you show compassion for your fellow man. I’m asking that you treat every human with the dignity they deserve. And don’t we all need to take the plank out of our own eyes, before we attempt to take the speck out of someone else’s?

Thanks for listening (or reading, I guess) I’d love to open a dialog about this subject. Feel free to comment or question or shout, or anything like that.

Hugs,
Bec
P.S.: I’ll get off of my soapbox now :)

----------------
Now playing: Kings of Convenience - I Don't Know What I Can Save You From
<span style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153); I was reading The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs, and he linked to a non-apple endorsed product, called the AirMail, which is a case for the new MacBook Air's. One of the creators of the AirMail, has a blog, and that's where I found this video. (just in case you wanted to know)

Evacuating Myspace Before It Recycles from universe on Vimeo.

How to annoy Left Wing Coworkers

This is a great list
I think I'm gonna use some of the suggestions, but I'm changing the name to, "How to annoy my Left Wing Father."

here's a couple of the suggestions

When they say "War is not the answer" ask them how they plan on stopping Genocide in Darfur

When a coworker says 'End the war', ask him why he never addresses terrorists who target children with that statement.

When a coworker raves about Obama, ask 'what legislation has Obama signed that you agree with most.'

Talk openly amongst your Rightie friends about how, if voting rights continues to spread among the Mid-East, that George W. I told my dad, "you know, I think they should put Ronald Reagan's face on Mt. Rushmore. Wouldn't that be cool?" He flipped out and I think that might have been the most angry I've ever seen him. His face was so red. It was awesome! I think

Joel Osteen: I resolve to frown at least 15 minutes each day so my smile will look genuine the rest of the time. But I will do it hanging upside down in my gravity boots so that the frown looks like a smile.

Benny Hinn: Whenever Jesus Christ appears to me visibly onstage, or when I hear his voice audibly as if he were standing right beside me, I will pinch myself, and then have one of my aides pinch me too. Then I will have another aide pinch that aide. And so on.
