I absolutely love maxi skirts. They make any outfit instantly more chic, comfortable and regal. What more do you want? I need more— make more, that is. They are insanely easy to make and I think they'll be the key to my style in NYC this summer. I wore this look on more of a overcast, gloomy spring day; it was perfect.

It took less than 30 seconds to put this look together. Along with the 60 seconds it took to do my hair, couple minutes to fix my face and brush my teeth. Along with the fact that I really only wear mascara, unless I just decide to wear my glasses all day; my morning routine has been significantly shorter post hair-chop. You could go as far as to say that I am incredibly lazy in the morning. I spend more time cutting up my morning fruit than getting myself ready. I am happy about this.

Notes to take away from this: You and me both need more maxi dresses and skirts, I love my short hair, I spend more time making/eating breakfast than I do getting ready. Hurrah!

Aside from the fact that my inability to consistently keep up with my own blog is saddening, I have had a really great past few months. As you may have noticed, ummm.... I CHOPPED ALL MY HAIR OFF. I was always the girl with the long hair, and if you really knew me, I consistently talked about wanting to cut my hair super short. With the support of two of my best friends, I finally did it! Don't worry, all that hair went to locks of love. Couldn't go to waste! I cut it the day before my birthday which was a couple days ago on the 3rd. I'm the big 21 now, friends.

I know my last post was about NYC as well, but as few and far between my posts are, its still the most important thing in my life right now! Well, aside from people and my education.

My life in little farm town, college town Corvallis is quickly going to change within the matter of days. I am moving to New York City for the summer for a fashion internship at Rachel Comey. I'll be staying in Manhattan the entirety of it. I am beyond thrilled to have been able to take advantage of this opportunity and I can't even tell you how excited and thankful I am for it. There are no words.

Because of this, I WILL be blogging from NYC over the summer. I want to document everything, from every beautiful thing I see, my learning experiences and the people I meet. And share with you guys what it's like! I would absolutely love to be able to meet up with other fashion bloggers in NYC, because I know for a fact that there are thousands, many more than here in Corvallis, and even my hometown Portland. Hopefully me and my blog can find a niche in NY. I'm excited to share it all with you as I learn.

With all of the things I have to look forward to, I still have a lot of things to get done here before I move. I mean, can we talk about wardrobe for a second? Obviously. I have been deep cleaning my closet, getting rid of junk and really paring down what is necessary and not. Hopefully I'll have a little extra cash to invest in key pieces before I leave. Because holy wow do I need some basics. My goal is to also to make some pieces like basic pants and nicer summer tanks with fabrics I already have. If you guys live in NYC, or have had a summer fashion internship experience there, please lend me your advice! I don't know if my casual NW style will cut it in the big apple.

My goal now is just to make it smoothly through this Spring term and not get caught up with the stresses that follow with a big move like this. I'm not scared of being away from where I grew up, but being away from the people I know and love will be hard. It is nice to know I have an amazing support system.

As cheesy as it sounds, my dreams are coming true!! This has always been my goal. And guess what bitches? I'm doing it.

NYC Bound

Although I am always jealous of peoples sunny spring break pics in paradise, I have had a pretty great break here at home in PDX. Unfortunately, my life has taken a few turns here and there with recent family events, there are so many things I have to look forward to.

Out of the three fashion shows that I am coordinating, there is one I want to make sure my fellow PDX event goers to know about! I've been hired as part of the creative team via iHeart Productions to put on a fashion showcase for Billabong, DaKine, Element, Nixon and RVCA. Show date is April 13, doors open at 7 p.m. It's gonna be killer, you'll want to be there. Look out for more info soon!

Secondly, but should have been firstly... I have been offered and have accepted a design internship in New York City! I am ecstatic. You are looking at a Summer 2013, NYC fashion design intern! I will be interning at Rachel Comey, in Manhattan from late June through September. My mind is still in alkdflkadjfldks mode. So excited.

I am going to go back to writing my list posts. Where I basically write about myself in lists of things that are on my mind. Because I'm important and I want to write about them. Take it or leave it.

1. If you ever wanted to know, if I could be any animal, I would be a bear.

2. In the chaos of this term and dead week beings to close, I am building up my relief muscles so that they can finally let go when I am done with the term.

3. See that kitty? She is my cat. Her name is Maggie and I miss her along with the rest of my family.

4. This term I took another job to help support myself. I have always been a firm believer in making the most with what you have and I am finally feeling as though I have achieved that. And I will continue to do so until graduation in 2014.

5. I would also really love a new pair of running shoes like those, mine are ratty!

6. The color purple is really growing on me.

7. As I am applying for internships, I quickly realized that my path might not directly beat down that of design itself, but rather event planning, marketing, social media or PR. I unintentionally prepared myself for things other than just design, and for that I am proud. But design has always been my goal.

8. I drew that rose tattoo on myself. On the inner part of the elbow. I want it.

9. I also really want a dog. As in, I have become mildly obsessed with wanting a dog, especially that kind of dog. A big fluffy one.

10. There is a token pic of me in there with no makeup. You're welcome. Well, I don't really wear makeup anyways.

I just like to take time to reflect those trivial and non trivial things once and a while. And I feel as this term in particular, I have really humbled myself. If possible. I have taken on much more than I thought I could, and have already reached goals of mine that I had set for next term. Annddd, now you know that I'd like my next life to be as a bear. You're welcome, once again.

Here in Oregon, it is still a bit chilly. Especially during nights when I tend to workout the most. So, I opted for a longer legging and a longer sleeve top. After filling out my style profile on Ellie, it gave me the clothing options that were best fit for the type of workouts I like to do.

From the selection I got these ankle length leggings, the "Love Struck Legging." What I love about these is that the waist band is the perfect fit, which is usually the problem with any other athletic leggings I have had in the past. It perfectly contoured around the right spot at my waist so the didn't fall down during my workout. Soft, perfect amount of stretch, and completely opaque, I was totally confident wearing the leggings while working my little booty.

The top I got was the, "Catch Me if You Can" top. Not only is it incredibly soft, fits well and comfortable to wear; but it is also totally functional. If you are a runner, you will know what I'm talking about when I say, my hands are cold! Going on your fourth mile in 45 degree weather or less. I loved this about the top. Fitness has never been a topic on this blog before, but like I said before, it perfectly coincides with my new lifestyle articles. No-Flour Peanut Butter Cookies

What?! 4 ingredients. That is all.

All you need: 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup honey, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 egg.

That is it! Cook for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees. If you like a more fluffy, cake-like cookie, add another egg (cookies to the left). My first batch I only used 1 egg and they were a little flat and goopy (right). Experiment with the proportions, but you want to keep the peanut butter/egg proportion balanced. Don't go over 2 eggs for 1.5 cups of peanut butter. Super flexible recipe, you could probably add more things like chocolate chips, raisins, whatever you like!

I'm thinking of making mini versions of these and storing them as little cookie snacks! Perfect for my fellow gluten free, dairy free allergy free friends. I might be a little late in the game with this recipe, but I am totally digging it.

New obsession: Green Drinks

What am I having every other day? A green smoothie! I wanted to share my favorite and simplest recipe I've made yet.

Ingredients: Tons of spinach, banana, pineapple

That's it! I used one banana, two big handfuls of spinach and a half cup of canned pineapple.

If you haven't tried this delicious and healthy trend, I highly suggest it! Especially if you are one who doesn't like to eat your daily servings of veggies, if you combine your veggies with a couple servings of fruit, it will most likely end up tasting like fruit. I suggest blueberries and pineapple for masking any vegetable taste you might not want to taste. I'd avoid strong tasting veggies like bell peppers.

Protein Packed Lettuce Wraps

I've been wanting to install a lifestyle segment to my blog for a while and now I finally am! I thought what better way to start it off with a food post? I am not a chef, or really know anything about cooking. But! I really enjoy making healthy food on a budget so I thought, why not share? Also, why is it so freaking hard to photograph food? It's an art within itself.

What I used: Romain Lettuce, chicken thighs, quinua, carrots, mustard, avocado, almonds, salt, pepper

How I made it: All I did was cook up a half a cup of quinua in a rice cooker while boiling two chicken thighs. Once the thighs were done, I ground them up in my new food processor (you could also shred the chicken), added a small handful of almonds and about a tablespoon of mustard. Then I added a little salt and pepper, some leftover guacamole (it would have been better to used sliced avocado, but I used what I had) and shredded carrots for an extra veggie. Then just placed a big spoonful of quinua and a big spoonful of ground chicken onto two pieces of washed romaine lettuce, wrapped it up like a burrito and, viola! A protein packed lettuce wrap. Seriously guys, after eating two of these, I am so full.

Hope you guys like! I have been super into making easy healthy food. It all started once I finally moved into my own apartment after living at home during high school and then in the dorms. I found that once I lived on my own it was much easier to stay healthier by making my own food, and I actually lost around 10-15 pounds.

Again, I've never taken a cooking class, and don't consider myself even to be a food connoisseur. I'm just a college girl who really enjoys making and eating food! So most likely, every food post on here will be incredibly simple, no insider secrets or professional tools/ expertise needed. Unless of course, I am posting a recipe by someone else for inspiration or what-not.

Tell me if a food/lifestyle installment on this blog is something that you'd like to see and/or follow. Well honestly, even if the answer is no, I will probably keep doing it! My other ideas for this new segment are things like decor, organizing, more food, anything I find that doesn't fit into fashion.

Currently, my life consists of applying for design internships, work and I will soon be starting my a new winter term of college. I am blogging off a new computer I recently bought myself, it's a MacBook Pro! My first big girl purchase, I am proud. Still getting the hang of using a mac for everything, but I love it.

I made this scarf, the green pants I altered and the boots? Steve Madden, leather, brand new, $65 at a thrift shop. Love 'em. They're a classic and will last me forever! Oh, and the awesome Levi jacket was $12 at goodwill.

Blog Rebuild

Hello everyone, recently something tragic has happened! I accidentally deleted my google/picasa web album, when I was trying to delete individual ones to save space. After research and forum reading, there is no recovery/backup system to recover my deleted photos. Photos up to 2 years have been deleted from this blog (Dec 2010). I am going through and trying to find pics to rebuild my blog to where it was. But I know a full recovery isn't possible. For now, bear with me while I reconstruct all parts of this blog. I am going to try and make best of this crappy situation to try and make it better than it was before.

Design Processes

I thought I'd share some of my sketches. Cause you know, they're pretty cool I think. These are my initial sketches to what I think will be my Spring collection for the DHE Spring fashion show. I've been tossing around several ideas in my head, and what inspired my concept for this collection, was quite unusual and painstakingly simple. But really proves you can be inspired by anything.

I was sitting in a tattoo shop here in Corvallis watching my boyfriend get tattooed and I started sketching to pass the time. Note: I always like to draw inspiration from my near environment before I look towards any other form of inspiration. Looking around I honestly wasn't inspired by any of the tattoo artists' art on the walls. Mind you, I am very picky and considerably hard to please when it comes to art, but I never lose any appreciation. Anyways, I ended up being inspired by the most BORING interior features of the shop. The simple black window trim and the textured, pale, muted yellow walls. Which, through careful research, the exact texture I now know is called, "California knockdown." My Dad would be proud, and any other construction workers who follow my blog. I know there are tons.

Anyways, somehow I derived my concept of stark minimalist pieces contrasted with much more detailed busy pieces. The idea is a heavy play on contrasting fabrics in each look. The main idea of my textile selection is based on simple jersey knit pieces contrasted with multicolored blue/green, brown/red woven bouclé and tweed fabrics. The use of grey and black knits was derived from the plain black trim used for the windows, and the tweed and bouclé are obviously inspired from the textured walls.

The color pallet is based off my favorite colors, neutrals! Throw in some warm greens, reds, and boom- every piece is interchangeable.

Who is going to wear this collection? I purposefully designed this collection to target a much larger demographic. The inclusion of men and women was my first goal. Secondly, this collection holds a spot for both basics and standout pieces. Like I said, the pieces are very interchangeable with one another, and the neutral, yet classic color pallet doesn't exclude anyone.

The contrast of simple and busy fabrics allow more use out of the collection. While the woven tweed and bouclé fabric set the tone for a more fashion forward demographic. Historically, this style of fabric grabs more attention from a slightly older demographic. (Than I, I mean.) In contrast with the young and classic silhouettes, that proves that this collection is incredibly versatile and can be worn by anyone. These pieces can be mixed and matched for school, work, even lounging.

I'm sure you'll be seeing more of this collection in the coming months, so I will save the rest of my analysis for later!

Summer Sewing #2: Strapless Dress

I took a two week long class on how to make and fit a strapless dress using couture techniques. I chose to make a knit dress which required a lot more work than I had originally planned. This means a lot more hand stitching to work fit- because seam ripping knit is a nightmare.

The inside features its own bustier. The dress is meant to be worn without a bra, and can stay up on my body without any special features like straps. The bustier was draped and fit by me, to fit me. It has steal boning, under wire and fusible fleece for support at the bust. The buster has a separate center back zipper that is hidden.

The front bodice features structured princess seams and then transitions into a draped back. To close the outer dress, there is an invisible side zipper. Instead of creating fit with darts or gathering, I decided to let the skirt cowl and have an open back. It adds a little sex appeal, and is the main feature that makes this different from any others. The skirt has a very slight a-line with a side slit at the seam.

These are some details of the dress in process, a little closer look as to how a bustier looks on the inside. I took a corset making class before the strapless dress class, which is where I learned how to apply boning and fit. I am super excited to know the how to build the under structure of a strapless dress, because I will definitely be designing more in the future!

Summer Sewing #1: Tailored Jacket

I thought I'd share some of my more impressive summer sewing projects. I have quite a few. I took a week long class on how to make a custom fit tailored jacket, using traditional tailoring techniques. I have to say, I don't think I have ever learned so much about sewing in one week.

So many valuable techniques were taught in that class, I loved it.

I made a wool jacket in class, then we had a summer project to tailor another one. I chose to make a more lightweight blazer out of linen suiting and line it with a plain cotton weave. I chose a lighter fabric so I could wear it in multiple ways by layering. Thick, warm wool wouldn't have allowed much layering opportunities.

Patch pockets, set in sleeves, fully lined.

Princess seams, rolled collar, two buttons.

I would say that from start to finish, the second time around it probably took me a full 48 hours combined. As a student, this is belongs in the group of projects I am most proud of. I hope ya'll like it!

Fall 2012 Trends and Styling Guide

It's mid August, in the dead of the heat, and I can't wait to wear pants and big scarves again. So, as many of you are starting school soon, I thought I'd do a bit of a shopping/styling guide of my favorite looks.

First of all, transitioning your wardrobe for trend and season is all about styling. Being able to take pieces that you already have and style them in new and different ways. It's all in the detail.

1. Trousers with sneakers. Cuff your trousers and wear your favorite sneakers, next on my list? White high top Chucks.

2. Casual cotton pants. Harem or not, dressing up a pair of pants like the ones shown above are incredibly chic with some sassy shoes, and layers up top.

3. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but shear is in. Still. Wear your prettiest lace bra underneath and rock it. I encourage modesty by layering with a big scarf. High waist pants also help in that department.

4. Patterned pants. This season is all about pants. Skinny, cropped and crazy. I like to pair pattern with textured neutrals to keep things fun and casual.

5. Peplums. Everywhere. You'll see them primarily on skirts and tops. Try finding more simple t-shirt styles so you can style them in multiple ways.

6. Accessories: this season is all about the bangles and ear pieces. No more fingers so full of metal you an barely write. Stack on your favorite bracelets, pile your hair in a bun and throw on some statement earrings, you'll be set with any outfit.

Above are some of my favorite looks from the runways as well as little snip its of detail I like to draw inspiration from.

This fall, there is on overarching trend of Asian aesthetic seeping through many of the designers collections. You'll see large faced patterns, sharp asymmetrical silhouettes and pale faces. I am not aesthetically drawn to most of these elements, but I am a fan of the idea of power behind it. So take note.

Transitional looks: You can still wear your summer dresses and shorts, pair them with lightweight sweaters, blazers and ankle boots. This seasons pieces transition very well into the next.

My poor college self probably won't be making any new purchases for fall, so stay tuned on how I emulate some of the trends with pieces I already have!... Possible DIY in the future?...Yes.

This Isn't Oregon Anymore

Oh, the land of stylish, good looking people- San Francisco! Can I just say, I feel extremely cut off by the rest of the world now that I know how well dressed some parts of it are!? I'm from Portland where it's the cool thing to wear the same flannel, skinny jeans and converse everyday. BUT WAIT, there is more! A few years back when I started this blog, it was because it helped open my eyes to to all kinds of fashions from all around the world. But I had never really been to a city with such a concentrated amount of well dressed human beings. People knew I was a foreigner, as I was gawking at everyone I saw. I was asked if I needed directions 3 times within 2 hours. But my eyes have been open! I was a little intimidated by all the pretty people, and I wish I had more time to watch them.

Chinatown, not my favorite. Castro district- I fit right in. Everyone here in little old Corvallis who makes fun of me for wearing denim on denim, LET ME TELL YOU WHO'S BOSS. If only I had known, I wouldn't have cooled it down with the white denim, I would have went all the way! Not only that, but my leopard print flats were a hit. I was still straight when I left, but I would have been okay either way.

Moving on, it was foggy the whole day we went to take photos by the Golden Gate bridge, so nothing amazing came from that. I visited Haight Ashbury which is where I felt most comfortable. Plenty flannel, 90's velvet dresses, and dirty hair. Bunches of little shops reminded me of all the little hole in the wall commercial/residential streets in Portland. I wish I could have hung around there longer, but we were in a rush to get someplace else for the night.

All in all, I really enjoyed the city. It gave me some fresh inspirations I am sure to use in upcoming projects. Now I am stuck here, left to be repeatedly disappointed in some peoples clothing choices. But who am I to complain? It entertains me.

Small Town Summer

Well into July and so far I have taken a tailoring class, corset making class and have strapless dress class in progress. This is my first time taking summer classes, living on my own, and living in a small town. I miss the big city scene, but I am really enjoying the small town feel here. Keeping myself busy with school and projects. I have some amazing people here to keep me company :)

My summer style is of the utmost simplicity, I can't be bothered in the summer. Most of the time you will see me in denim cut offs and a t-shirt.

I have spent countless hours in our blazing hot sewing lab, and have pinned my fingertips so many times I can't feel it anymore. But I have learned so many things I have been waiting to learn, which makes me so excited to make my Spring collection this year! I must document in a more organized fashion so I can share my progress.

I am really just trying to have a stress free summer, why fret about little things, right? Corvallis is beautifully surrounded with places to run and hike and since I have yet to land a job, I have been able to enjoy the outdoors much more than last summer. In fact, I am about to go on a run soon!

Hold The Phone!

Apologies for my absence! This term has presented a handful of events that required me to pause everything and just take one day at a time. That's the best way to live life really; it allows you to live in every moment and savor the good times, and there has been so many this year! In short, that is the reasoning behind the lack of blog time. But here I am again!

Went to the little Corvallis farmers market today, so cute around here in the nice weather. I do miss my roots in Portland though. Gotta keep the weird everywhere I go! My agenda for life as of today is: 1. Find a summer job 2. Improve my green thumb 3. Finish Spring term with a bang 4. Maintain the overall good vibes that have surrounded me as of recent 5. Be awesome.

I need to find a balance. Maybe do some yoga or something. Just kidding I hate yoga. You know when people say, "It's not that easy when you enter the real word".. LET ME TELL YOU. I'm definitely not living in fairytale land in college. Havin' fun and gettin' work done! Which has led me to lose my mind in a few areas of life. I think I need to go to the fabric store and calm down. Then clean my room because it's messy.

Also on the prowl for some fun jobs for this summer. Staying here in Corvallis, taking some classes and hopefully working a couple jobs. So if y'all know of any open opportunities, I'd be grateful if you sent them my way!

OH yea this is a fashion blog... I'm wearing a dress from yessstyle.com, love it, its my new fav. The color is what I love most about it. And I am due for a new pair of loafers, or to get these ones resoled... I found a flower headband in the garbage at work and claimed it mine. Hopefully it will make an appearance in later posts. (Mind you I work in a costume shop, so there was only fabric like things in the garbage, I am not that desperate for a flower headband)

Little NW style beach infusion post. Ventured to the beach this past week with the fam. I found myself saying adjectives like "bomb" and singing the newest and coolest pop/rap songs. ergh. Sharing a hotel room with two 14 year old girls will do that to you.

Things I love about the beach: wind, salty smells, colorful houses, nautical themes EVERYWHERE, the sound of crashing waves, pathways made of wood, that tall grass you only ever see around beach towns, saltwater taffy, my awesome new touristy beach sweatshirt.

Things I don't love: trying to find a compatible restaurant for 7 different people, with different food allergies, overpriced gift shops.

I have found that this term, above any other segment of time in my life I have done the most reflecting and have enough revelations to make things more clear yet confusing at the same time. What is great though, is that I find solace in knowing that things get better. I have found that my list making has been well received so here we go...

Little life notes and inspirations:

1. Human beings. More specifically our interplay and how different interactions affect our lives.

2. Environments. See that photo of Venice? I'd kill to be there right now. Sitting on a dock, with an easel and my acrylics, creating a beautiful composition of my surroundings. Our near environments and where we place ourselves say a lot about who we are.

3. Yes cats make their way into almost all of my inspiration posts. They calm me okay?!

4. I am gradually learning to say what I want. No fear or regret of not saying anything at all.

5. Those tulips inspired my current nail color :)

6. It is almost painful how much I can't wait for it to be sunny and warm enough to ride my bike around for fun, preferably in a floral getup and a few braids in my hair.

Lets see here...

1. Spring break cannot come sooner, all I want to right now is to see my family, cats and be at home.

2. Time to be creative has escaped and cannot find its way back into my planner

3. Thrift shopping. I miss thrift shopping.

4. I really should be studying for my Econ midterm and writing my Spanish essay right now.

5. My apartment is really cold and I currently am snuggled up in my electric blanket. Power bills can suck it.

6. Can you please go grocery shopping and take my garbage out? Thanks.

7. Look at that striped dress, I'm dying over it.

8. I'd like to wear that vest, a pretty hat with a bow whilst frolicking around in a field of wildflowers, holding a wicker basket with picnic food in it.

SO! School is taking over. The Recycle fashion show was a success and I will be posting photos soon. I am now working on the OSU Mom's weekend fashion show which I am stoked for, its gonna be good!!

These are the same Lucky shoes that I was wearing in my last post, I'm a fan of laces so I threw some on. This pretty lacy cardigan is from Lucky as well. I have really been loving layering with this chambray top, so I paired it with the cardigan and leggings for my casual homework filled Sunday.
