Apologies for my absence! This term has presented a handful of events that required me to pause everything and just take one day at a time. That's the best way to live life really; it allows you to live in every moment and savor the good times, and there has been so many this year! In short, that is the reasoning behind the lack of blog time. But here I am again!

Went to the little Corvallis farmers market today, so cute around here in the nice weather. I do miss my roots in Portland though. Gotta keep the weird everywhere I go! My agenda for life as of today is: 1. Find a summer job 2. Improve my green thumb 3. Finish Spring term with a bang 4. Maintain the overall good vibes that have surrounded me as of recent 5. Be awesome.

I need to find a balance. Maybe do some yoga or something. Just kidding I hate yoga. You know when people say, "It's not that easy when you enter the real word".. LET ME TELL YOU. I'm definitely not living in fairytale land in college. Havin' fun and gettin' work done! Which has led me to lose my mind in a few areas of life. I think I need to go to the fabric store and calm down. Then clean my room because it's messy.

Also on the prowl for some fun jobs for this summer. Staying here in Corvallis, taking some classes and hopefully working a couple jobs. So if y'all know of any open opportunities, I'd be grateful if you sent them my way!

OH yea this is a fashion blog... I'm wearing a dress from yessstyle.com, love it, its my new fav. The color is what I love most about it. And I am due for a new pair of loafers, or to get these ones resoled... I found a flower headband in the garbage at work and claimed it mine. Hopefully it will make an appearance in later posts. (Mind you I work in a costume shop, so there was only fabric like things in the garbage, I am not that desperate for a flower headband)

The World Is Yours by Nas on Grooveshark

Little NW style beach infusion post. Ventured to the beach this past week with the fam. I found myself saying adjectives like "bomb" and singing the newest and coolest pop/rap songs. ergh. Sharing a hotel room with two 14 year old girls will do that to you.

Things I love about the beach: wind, salty smells, colorful houses, nautical themes EVERYWHERE, the sound of crashing waves, pathways made of wood, that tall grass you only ever see around beach towns, saltwater taffy, my awesome new touristy beach sweatshirt.

Things I don't love: trying to find a compatible restaurant for 7 different people, with different food allergies, overpriced gift shops.

My hair is always outta control. But to tell you the truth, my hair is not naturally like this, I use tools! I personally just use a regular curling iron and hurrrr spray y'all. My hair is naturally wavy so a quick curl here and there gets the job done. I can also achieve this look with a hair straightener like one of these new ghd ones. Super easy and quick.

Currently loving flowers in braids for spring. I really just want a lion as a pet. Imagine how great it would be to cuddle with your cat but 20x bigger. So cuddly. I just want to be an animal whisperer and chill with the big cats for a while. That's all.

Being back home brings me back! Its great being back with the little siblings. And might I add, that out of the three younger siblings that I have, only one is smaller than me! I have been outgrown. I feel tiny.

This song always puts me in a good mood. Especially being back in my N. Portland hood. One of the first things I did when I got here (this morning) was go on my old running route, love love LOVE the view along Willamette. Next: the bridges.

Dead weak. Nuf' said. Math is taking me down like a relentless 8th grader beating up a tiny 6th grader. Poor me. Complain, complain... complain. Oh, guess what else? I have 8 a.m classes FOUR DAYS A WEEK next term, including Fridays. On another note, I get to take a flat pattern class next term which originally I had to wait till next year to take. I'm boring you guys I can tell, I am boring myself too.

Thoughts...

1. I might explode with excitement that I am putting my soccer cleats on again. It was my whole life since elementary school. So giddy about it.

2. The sexy voices of Brandon Chandler and Norah Jones have been on repeat on my spotify for the past few days. I wish I had a sexy voice like them.

3. I want to start more projects. I just love projects. Let's collaborate.
4. Can you find the dinosaur? I love it so much I think I am going to print and frame it.

5. Conversations with best friends.... Are the best. Don't know what I'd do without 'em!! lub you guys.

I have found that this term, above any other segment of time in my life I have done the most reflecting and have enough revelations to make things more clear yet confusing at the same time. What is great though, is that I find solace in knowing that things get better. I have found that my list making has been well received so here we go...

Little life notes and inspirations:

1. Human beings. More specifically our interplay and how different interactions affect our lives.

2. Environments. See that photo of Venice? I'd kill to be there right now. Sitting on a dock, with an easel and my acrylics, creating a beautiful composition of my surroundings. Our near environments and where we place ourselves say a lot about who we are.

3. Yes cats make their way into almost all of my inspiration posts. They calm me okay?!

4. I am gradually learning to say what I want. No fear or regret of not saying anything at all.

5. Those tulips inspired my current nail color :)

6. It is almost painful how much I can't wait for it to be sunny and warm enough to ride my bike around for fun, preferably in a floral getup and a few braids in my hair.

1. Spring break cannot come sooner, all I want to right now is to see my family, cats and be at home.

4. I really should be studying for my Econ midterm and writing my Spanish essay right now.

5. My apartment is really cold and I currently am snuggled up in my electric blanket. Power bills can suck it.

SO! School is taking over. The Recycle fashion show was a success and I will be posting photos soon. I am now working on the OSU Mom's weekend fashion show which I am stoked for, its gonna be good!!

These are the same Lucky shoes that I was wearing in my last post, I'm a fan of laces so I threw some on. This pretty lacy cardigan is from Lucky as well. I have really been loving layering with this chambray top, so I paired it with the cardigan and leggings for my casual homework filled Sunday.

Hello my lovelies! Week 5 has ended which means Winter term is half way over! WAHHH? Where is time going? Although it is the perfect week for me to have acquired this nasty cold that makes me feel like a 7 year old with the amount of snot running from my nose. Attractive right? If this cold doesn't get me a boyfriend, these pants will! My new hot-pants. As my best friend/photographer Rachel said to me as she took the last photo, "You look skinny and sexy." New favorite complement. Definitely a keeper.... Oh I failed to mention the reason why it is the perfect week to get sick; because I get to stay in and watch all the New York Fashion Week shows! DUH. If you didn't already guess.

I am wearing: LuckyBrand bracelets, ring, shoes and pants. Old navy (self altered) oxford, scarf from Yesstyle.com. Dooney & Bourke purse.

About the pants, let me begin by saying when the colored pants trend first arose when I was a junior in high school, I believe that was 2009? I loved the look. I bought purple forever 21 skinnies and wore them.... twice. Not cute. I had no idea how to style them. Well, it has been a few years and have since accumulated a much better grasp on how to style these bad boys. My best friend Alex would be proud.

Pair brights with neutrals. The key is to mix the right amount of warm and cool tones. These pants are from Lucky Brand Jeans, a skinny capri style, which is my favorite out of any other style jeans. They are somewhat of a brick red warm tone which means that pairing them with warmer cream whites and browns will go best. My effort was to make them the focal point of the look and also quiet them down a little bit. So I paired them with these creme and tawny colored oxfords, creme white button up, my D&B purse, and brown knit scarf.

Food for thought- red and black is so out of trend, and is too sharp of a contrast. Black would go great with a warm mossy green color pant instead. Which is a color I would like to add more of to my closet. My nails are currently that color "Spanish Moss" by Revlon. Definitely my new favorite nail color.

If you are here in Corvallis you should come watch the Recycle Fashion Show where I will be popping and locking it down the runway. Just kidding my body doesn't do that. Thursday the 16th at 7 p.m.!

I got new running shoes. My legs were desperately asking for them. Haha that has nothing to do with the collage... but the connection is that it has been so incredibly gorgeous here in Corvallis and I went for too long of a run. Let me brag a little... 9 miles. Yes I did. Supposedly we are supposed to have 6 more weeks of winter or something like that, but as far as my meteorology knowledge goes (which is actually more extensive than you might think), the groundhog was very wrong. Which is great because now I can blind people with my white legs!

As a student, I consider myself lucky to one-have the opportunity to still be a student. Two- the ability and drive to be studying what I want to study. And three- have a job. A job that I actually really enjoy and don't hate going to on a daily basis. Yes, there are days when I would rather be doing something else, but the fact that my job is to make costumes is pretty awesome. And sometimes I get little helpers!

Pretty picture post! I have a tumblr filled with inspiration and I post daily. I'm obsessed. If you look at my tumblr there is a really good chance you will see exactly what's on my mind. I have nit picked it to perfection and I wish I had a wall in my house full of all the images I have on there. Too bad printing costs so much. One day.... Except not with this digital world, it will become more of a slideshow of some sort on a digitally enhanced wall.

These might look familiar to you because I have posted them on here before. They are my red dresses that I made for this years World AIDS Day benefit fashion show. This year I had the lovely experience of directing the fashion show portion of it and it was awesome. I had never been the director of a show before, it was very fun. Definitely looking forward to having a show of my own in the future. I was also the MC for this years show, public speaking was always questionable for me, but now I am over that hump!

My self centered self loves to be in charge, and event planning definitely is a fun area to be in charge of. But the feeling that I get when I see my garments walking down the runway, all eyes on the models strutting it to the beat of the music, and camera' flashes lighting the room makes my heart race. I am proud to say that I know what makes me happy and that I am perusing it. I can't imagine myself doing anything else.

Hey! Corvallis got snow!

What a whirlwind of a week. Had some really low pits followed by peaks that are starting to over shine the pits, slowly but surely. I got my rook pierced! Spur of the moment decision, love it and now I am tempted to get more. Posted a pic on my tumblr.

I have been able to do a lot of reflecting in the past few days, and along with great conversations with some of my best friends it has set me in a great mood in preparation for this busy week ahead of me.

Hello! Here is a recent interview I did for Smashion.com, thought I'd share!

Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?

Tayler: As far as fashion goes, my greatest influence as of a few years has been the internet. I am inspired by what fashion bloggers around the world wear because instead of seeing a globalization of fashion, you can see so many different and unique styles people create and I really appreciate that.

Three things in your closet you cannot live without:

Tayler: Leather loafers, big knit vintage scarf.... this is so hard! And lets say dark wash jeans.

What label(s)/store(s) do you favor?

Tayler: I am not one to follow designer labels or consistently shop at one store. The origins of my closet are pretty eclectic.

What inspires you?

Tayler: Way too many things! Music, food, people, photography, architecture, texture, the outdoors, interior design. The list goes on. As of late, a lot of interior design which I tend to focus on, on my tumblr. (http://styleinterplay.tumblr.com/)

What types of items do you like to save $ on and what do you splurge on?

Tayler: I'm a college student and that means my money is being saved to pay rent! But if I had a more balanced financial life, I would be saving for a great leather jacket with a shearling collar; I have always wanted one.

Tayler: A good bra. No joke. But a more fashion focused answer would be a great fitting and versatile dress. Not necessarily an LBD but one that you can wear to many different occasions including party and work.

Your most worn lip gloss/ lipstick:

Tayler: I only own one lipstick and it is called Tempt Seduction by Covergirl. I'm not big on lip gloss, chapstick is the way to go for me.

Your most worn piece of jewelry:

Tayler: Braided gold ring I always wear on my middle finger and a simple brassy colored bracelet, both on my right hand; inherited from my mother.

Tayler: I don't know if this is surprising, but after college I want to get rid of most if not all of my possessions and travel the world. Culture has always been a huge interest and influence of mine, yet I have never been outside of the United states.

What's your latest obsession?

Tayler: My tapered khaki trousers from H&M. Love those pants. Also, Bon Iver's new album.

On my days off, you'll find me...

Tayler: Wouldn't one of those be nice? If I am not at work or doing school work, I am either spending time with cool people, or starting new projects; which usually entail sewing, art and blogging.

Tayler: I have been skydiving and it was awesome, I definitely recommend doing it. I can wiggle my ears. My favorite kinds of music are Country and Hip Hop.

Do It Like The Boys

Hello!! I'm back in Corvallis and more than ready to start the term. Winter break was really great for me, I was able to work, hang out with friends, and spend time with the family.

I am feeling really excited to get a new start in school. I have higher expectations for myself this term, and more goals to strive towards. Not only with school, but with my relationships with friends, my health, and projects outside of class. Speaking of, I am working on the Red Dress show which is January 24th! First show of the year, very excited.

Okay I just have to say, as I am writing this post up I am watching Project Runway All Starts and holy crap I am so excited for this season!

About this super casual look...Tapered trousers from H&M, Converse, thrifted Perry Ellis Sweatshirt, thrifted satchel, gifted charm necklace, and same ring and necklace from my Mom I never take off. DIY idea: if you have khaki pants already, watch this tutorial I did a while ago, and you'll have a more trendy pair!

I was going to do a single post with all the different ways you can style these pants, but that was too much effort and I needed to get a new post up asap! So instead you will probably be seeing subsequent outfit posts with these pants. I love pants, but skirts are coming back for spring- especially mid thigh pencil skirts. And I already know I love that trend. Excited for spring fashion already. Now I am just rambling. I really need to take pictures in other locations, because my balcony is not really cutting it anymore. Erghh.

Another new years goal: put more effort into my blog.

Resolutions

I need to think of some quality New Years resolutions. I have never been one to really commit to them, but now that I live on my own and consider myself a responsible almost adult, I feel like I have more control of possible externalities that may prevent me from following through. I was thinking about this today and I didn't come up with many so here we go...

1. Eat good food.

2. Not too much of it.

3. Work hard.

4.Play hard.

5. Remember whats important.

Shoot, I don't know what else. Trying not to have a cheeseball moment. Usually I'm pretty goal oriented and good at these things. Pretty well rounded list though right? Maybe I need more ideas.

Sew Time

Here are my recent makings. Super easy dresses to make but oh so chic and versatile. I think I am going to use these in addition to my red dress I made this summer for the Red Dress fashion show in January that I am directing. I am in love with the fabric. It is a Rayon/Polyester Jersey that I used for all three dresses and it is so incredibly soft and easy to sew. I have had a hard time sewing cotton interlock and jersey knits, but this just a dream going through my sewing machine. So I ended up buying the same fabric in a gorgeous deep purple color. I think I am going to make the same dress as the right pic out out of it because the dress is so versatile and comfortable; I want another one! Loving the long sleeve mini dresses, so chic, sexy and winter appropriate. The one on the left I planned to be short sleeve, as you see in this post, but I love the long sleeve on the right dress so much I decided to use it again!

I was going to wait to post pics of these till after the actual show, but the show isn't till January 24th, and I didn't want to wait! So you guys are getting a way early sneak peak. I guess you'll just have to see them styled and pretty on my gorgeous models next month!

Don't you love these looks?!? If you are like me and like to be festive but don't want to look like you just stepped out of Santa's workshop, here are some ideas for you! No mixing of red and greens, no ugly sweaters, and no holiday motifs like snowmen or reindeer. Except for the snowflake, snowflakes are chic.

(Left to right)

Look 1: Go for browns and tans, a darker neutral color mixed with bold gold jewelry and black boots can be so chic and winter party appropriate.

Look 2: Lace, I am usually not a fan of lace, but with they right styling and time of year, it can be so cute. Creme lace, with accents of a dark green is so pretty!

Look 2: Spice up your LBD with some high knit socks, brown chunky boots and a fur collar. Beaded, or detailed clutch and your set.

Of course, add tights, a warm chic coat and neutral knit scarf to any of these looks and you'll be good to go. Only use holiday themed colors in accents, like a pair of red studs or deep green wedges. Gold is definitely my preferred metal, especially during this time of year. Add some glittery eyes, a bold lip (not both at once) and a pretty hairdo and you'll look winter chic!

On the other hand, feel free to go all out with the Christmas music...

When are you going to see me in something other than skinny pants, a sweater and a scarf? Never. Outfit of the month pretty much. No shame.

Cords, loafers, and sweater I found at goodwill. Thrifty nifty eh?

My last final is tomorrow morning and I have the rest of today to study. blah. I am staying here in Corvallis for the next week-ish to sew and do projects. Then off to Portland to go back to work, I'm excited to see everyone again! Then celebrate the holidays. Maybe make some gluten free deserts, watch Christmas movies, then force myself to go on a run. Or maybe I'll take my cats on a walk instead.
