Hello Sisters!

WELCOME to the February 2012 edition of BIG SISTER Magazine.

In this February valentine edition, I want to officially welcome all our numerous fans world over to year 2012. I hope you started the year on a good note and everything is going on smoothly so far?

This year is promises to be a very fulfilling year for the entire BIG SISTER Entertainment team. We are proud to inform you that BIG SISTER Magazine has found a voice through BIG SISTER E-SHOW.

BIG SISTER E-SHOW is magazine program that will be aired on some radio stations in some major cities in Nigeria as well online in few month’s to come. Produced and presented by yours truly, Elsie-Coco. The show will features on healthy living, fitness, diet, boost of self confidence as well as all round entertainment news. Guest on the show will include female plus size celebrities and aspiring plus models. The show will afford an interactive forum for listeners to call in and contribute. Listeners are sure to get the best of international plus community news which will be anchored by Cassy Mcbrdye-Jones, our US correspondent/director of The International Fuller Woman Network, our official sponsors.

We stopped by South Africa to bring to you our cover story with RELEBOGILE MABOTJA, a South African screen BIG SISTER. Relebogile is a sister of many parts, she is a performing artist, actress, presenter, writer and producer. With such an impressive resume, she was humble enough to allow BIG SISTER into her world of fame in an interesting interview that I engaged in her lately. Enjoy the excerpts:

BIG SISTER: For the benefit of non South Africans who do not know you, who is Relebogile?

Relebogile: An actress, an artist, a creative, a presenter, a singer and a lover of the arts.

BIG SISTER: Tell us about your family and educational background? Relationship status.

Relebogile: I have 2 brothers and have studied Law, business management and entertainment law. Relationship status is open for others to interpret.

BIG SISTER: Have you always known you would be in the entertainment industry?

Relebogile:Somehow deep in my heart I knew this was my calling. I didn’t realise it would happen so soon.

BIG SISTER: Fondest childhood memory?

Relebogile:Feeding animals on my grandmothers farm.

BIG SISTER:How did you get to be noticed in music, acting and presenting?

Relebogile:I was blessed to go to a school where we were forced to be involved in all cultural activities. Because of this, I found myself right at home.

BIG SISTER: Which are your major works so far?

Relebogile:Being apart of the biggest SA Soap operas and drama series.

BIG SISTER: You are a sister of many parts, how do you balance that? Which gave you your break through?

Relebogile:I keep myself grounded by surrounding myself with people I trust have my best interests at heart. God is always my first point if reference and family is at the top of my priority list. The work, money and fame can all disappear but I know I will always have the love I continue to appreciate in my life.

BIG SISTER: Challenges so far? How do you cope with fame? The advantage and disadvantage?

Relebogile:Privacy can be a bit of an issue at times. Contrary to what some may believe, I can be very shy in public and around people I don’t know. Can be uncomfortable and its something I’ll never get used. The great thing is having a platform. I am able to say something and have people listen. I can bring a voice to great causes and things like that make all the ‘disadvantages’ worth it.

BIG SISTER: Are you familiar with the Nigerian entertainment? If YES. Who is your favourite Nigerian celebrity?

Relebogile:Funny enough, I have produced music videos for the amazing Naeto C, Sauce Kid and Sasha. So, for girl power, I say Sasha is number 1!

BIG SISTER: How you relate with your male fans and admirers?

Relebogile:I am always polite and respectful and appreciate the attention and support I receive.

BIG SISTER: Has your body size ever given you a low self esteem?

Relebogile:Yes. Even when I weighed my least I felt insecure. It’s a daily battle as a woman that we go through but through it all, I never let it keep me back or hold me down.

BIG SISTER: Your advice to some big sisters with low self esteem?

Relebogile:Fake it till you make it. No woman is ever 100% happy with herself and her body. God has blessed you with it and it has taken you places. Be grateful for that and the rest seems miniscule.

BIG SISTER: What do you treasure most about your curves?

Relebogile:I enjoy feeling feminine. Many women envy the fact that I have an hourglass shape, with a bust and a booty. Not everyone is blessed to have that.

BIG SISTER:. Valentine is in the air, what is your idea of a perfect valentine day?

Relebogile: Honestly, I have no idea. I have never experienced a perfect Valentine’s Day, but what I can say is that I must be surrounded by the people I know for sure love me for me always.

BIG SISTER:Can you recall the last valentine’s gift someone gave you?

Relebogile:I once got a red rose.

VALENTINE IDEAS For Two

Come Tuesday, February 14 it will be one of the world famous day, the Valentine’s Day! As controversial as this day maybe, couple especially younger ones will certainly make almost frantic efforts to celebrate it.

The essence of such celebrations has always been capable of eliciting heated debate as not a few persons have questioned the rationale behind copying such celebrations.

Here are some Valentine ‘etiqutte’ tips on how to have a fabulous Valentine’s Day with your special valentine this year.:

1.PLAN AHEAD

You don’t have to wait until Valentine’s Day to ask your date out for the night. You don’t want to make it look like a last minute thought.

2.Romantic dinner
Plan a romantic dinner for just the two of you. If you are a great cook, you should prepare a fabulous meal. Otherwise, make reservations at a restaurant you know your valentine will enjoy.

It would be nice to take in a great movie for that day. Find out what movies your mate enjoys and plan to go. Great time to cuddle and enjoy each others company.

There are so many romantic getaways that your mate is sure to enjoy. Check on-line to find the romantic getaways in your area. Some establishments offer discounts for couples who make reservations in advance. Don’t forget the roses and wine!

5. Chocolate candy and roses
Is your mate found of chocolate? Why not purchase a pound of chocolate from a place that sells the finest chocolates. I'm sure your mate would love to get a dozen fresh roses to go along with that chocolate. Make sure the roses are fresh and beautiful to look at.

Oftentimes, it is not unusual to come across guys who claim to be perplexed by what women want from them. Some days wives and girlfriends seem to be fine with who their men are while on others they will try their best to change the men in their lives. Likewise if you find women difficult to figure out, here is a list of the ten top things that brothers should know about what some big sisters want in relationships.

“We want you to listen to us”

Like really listen instead of putting on that dazed look and occasionally managing to come up with an “uh-uh…yeah...that’s right” to show that you are still alive. At the other of the spectrum are guys who jump at the chance of lecturing or criticizing their partners the moment the latter try to share something with them. Remember women talk not merely to seek advice or exchange information but to share their thoughts and feelings – it’s how they connect with their partners.

“We want you to be fun”

A lively sense of humor is apparently the biggest draw when it comes to women looking for a dating partner. A man who can laugh away the blues is not only fun to be with when the going is good but is actually quite a blessing to have around when the sun does not shine so bright and the chips are down. However leave the “Three Stooges” brand of humor for the guys and give your woman something wittier to laugh about.

“We want you to be there for us”

Perhaps what differentiates a casual fling from a meaningful relationship is that in the latter, partners are there for each other through thick and thin. Men who are not emotionally available are not much use to women for long and sooner or later, women will gravitate to other people who are better at offering comfort and emotional support.

Every woman is looking for a guy who is willing to see her as a individual with a mind and not just a means of making out. This is not to say that women don’t want to be thought of as attractive but only that they want to be considered living, thinking beings before that. It has been a long and hard struggle for women to be accepted as equals, both in society as well as in personal relationships and this self-respect is not something that your wife or girlfriend would be willing to give up in a hurry.

OK, this is not an excuse to tell your woman what you really think of her in that red dress. Rather when a woman says that she wants her man to be honest with her, she means that he should refrain from lies and half-truths in their relationship. Like for instance, telling her that you are doing overtime when in fact you are out with your beer-mates. Or worse, cheating on her with someone else and allowing her to think that you have actually been on a business trip. Trust is the foundation on which every relationship is built and if you are not honest with your partner, how can she put her trust in you?

“We want you to be smart”

That women dig intelligent guys needs little elaboration. Even though this does not mean that you have to quote realms from your college dissertation or explain the finer points of quantum physics but not coming up with a “duh” every time she wishes to have an intelligent conversation will work wonders for your relationship. For women, the brain perhaps is the sexiest part of a man and few things turn her on as a witty repartee or an intelligent remark. So the next time your girlfriend invites you over to her place, beat her at Jeopardy and watch happens.

“We want you to be financially secure”

Among the top turn-offs for women are guys who live off others – whether family members, friends or partners. A man who is not gainfully employed will rarely attract a smart, well-adjusted woman and only those who are psychologically drawn to losers. Similarly having your own place and car are signs that you are a responsible adult and are not only capable of taking yourself but also of providing for a family, which is ultimately what women have been hard-wired to look for in a potential mate since the primitive times.

“We want to see a more sensitive side in our partners”

Granted that you don’t believe in shedding tears at the slightest pretext, but being in touch with your feelings is important if you want to connect emotionally to a woman. So the next time your partner suggests taking a late Sunday evening walk, reach out for her hand and hold it gently as you both watch the sun go down behind the trees. Or when your beloved is visibly upset, give her a cuddle and ask her what’s going on instead of merely waiting for her ‘to snap out of it’.

No matter what your particular philosophy in life is, if you have certain convictions and are willing to stand up for them, women will respect and love you the more for it. So go back to the basics of personal hygiene and every now and then take a tip from the metrosexual male. Even though not every woman wants a Greek god on her arms, she definitely wants and expects her partner to look well-groomed.

At the end of the day it is not that hard to figure out what a woman wants from a guy. Someone to respect her as an individual and to love her in a way that she feels special – apparently, not very different from what guys want in relationships as well!

Swimming is one of the most popular sports in Australia. Our nation is surrounded by water and swimming is one of our great passions. As well as being fun, swimming is a great way to keep fit, stay healthy and make friends. Swimming is a healthy activity that you can continue for a lifetime. It is a low-impact activity that has many physical and mental health benefits.

Swimming for recreation

Swimming is a great recreational activity for people of all ages. Recreational swimming can provide you with a low-impact workout and it’s also a good way to relax and feel good. Common swimming styles in recreational swimming are breaststroke, backstroke, side stroke and freestyle.

Competitive swimming

Some people who enjoy swimming want to take it to a competitive level. This can provide the health benefits of a vigorous workout as well as the fun and thrill of competition. The main strokes used in competitive swimming are breaststroke, freestyle, backstroke and butterfly. The distances swum in competition swimming can vary from 50 metres in a pool to much further distances in open water.

There are public pools throughout Australia that are open to everyone. Entry to public pools usually costs a few dollars and many aquatic centres offer swimming lessons for people of all ages, as well as training and exercise groups.

Some general tips

Before you dive in:

Make sure you know how to swim.
Choose a safe environment.
Warm up and stretch your muscles and joints before entering the water.
Have plenty of fluids on hand and drink regularly.
Don’t overdo it if you’re just starting out.

REFLECTIONS 2011 INTERNATIONAL FULLER WOMAN EXPO

2011 Expo was more than I could have hoped for. The Detroit Historical Museum was a beautiful backdrop for this years event. We had a great mix of vendors that traveled far and wide to share their goods and services to our attendees.

For the first time in 3 years I took some time, stepped back and watched everything unfold. I often became emotional, realizing the journey from a dream to reality. It was bitter sweet at times, having to celebrate without some who we are used to seeing in attendance. We pushed forward and came together to bring another uplifting event to the Detroit area.

I am so grateful to be able continue to spread the message of self love and celebration of what makes us beautiful, unique and divine! We are women uninhibited by circumstance, society perceptions or prejudices. We are now connected in purpose and intent. We have learned the power of our voice and will make steps to change our part of the world. More importantly, we began to tell those that were not in attendance the power of their curves.

A full figure bra is one that is either a 32DD or larger cup, or a 38C or larger cup. In other words, rather petite women can be defined as full figured.
When buying full figure bras, look for these three key features: support, shaping and fit. Your self-confidence, comfort and the look of your outfit depend on it getting them right. We will discuss vital features that impact the type of supportive bra that you should buy.
Try on every single bra that you are thinking of buying! This cannot be emphasized enough. The rule that every woman is a slightly different size goes double for women with larger bust lines.
Many people are misinformed about large-breasted women and activity, and make assumptions that they simply cannot play sports. One Olympic-level teen was told to ditch her dreams because she was busty! And this is not an isolated case.
Don't let breast pain keep you from enhancing your physical and emotional health by exercising! We offer solutions to this widespread dilemma experienced by full figured women.

Full figure bras: proper fit

Put on a close-fitting non-padded bra.
Exhale.
Measure around your ribcage (where your bra band would fall). Keep the measuring tape parallel with the floor.
Round the resulting number up or down to the closest whole number.
If that number is odd, increase the number by five inches. If even, increase it by four inches. Thats your band size.
Measure around the largest part of your bust, rounding to the nearest number.
Subtract your ribcage measurement (plus four or five inches) from your bust measurement.
Convert from a number to a letter (each cup size is an additional inch).
Thats your cup size (e.g. if you got two inches when you subtracted, you wear a B cup).

Full figure bras: comfort
Breast pain at the high point of your cycle affects every aspect of your lifeyour ability to perform at work, your sleep and your ability to play sports. You need enhanced bust support at those times. Wearing your maximum level support sports bra should do the trick.
When working out vigorously, be sure to wear a bra with mesh panels and wicking fabrics. You also need padded straps (see strap section). Sports bra manufacturers have come out with a whole line of shock absorber type bras, with non-rub closures, side fastening and extra padding on the band and straps. You can even choose from several different levels of shock absorption. This type of bra is also called no-bounce.

Full figure bras: adequate cup size
Have you ever seen a full figured woman in a bra that didnt fit her correctly?
Cleavage that should not be seen is in full view, and its clear that her bra is binding from the rear view.
Or, perhaps her breasts are sagging. In general, an ill-fitting bra displays too many figure flaws, and makes you look unfashionable and unkempt.
Remember that when your bra fits properly, there should be either zero or minimal cup spillage. Bras with C cups and larger maximize your coverage. When you try on a full coverage bra, your body will thank you, because theyre much more comfortable.
Cleavage
Look for underwire bras that accommodate lower necklines if you want to show off the goods. Bras with under padding will lift and enhance your dcollet. Padded inserts called cookies can perform the same function.

Support

For the larger woman, support is all about limiting the movement of the bosom. The larger the bust line, the greater this challenge becomes. Wide band underwire and long line bras should be wardrobe staples. Dont forget that a well-fitting bra contributes to proper posture.
The woman who exercises and plays sports requires an encapsulation or compression bra that hooks in the back, with straps that are adjustable.
Whats the difference between a compression and encapsulation bra? As the name suggests, the former uses nylon spandex to minimize, control and support with a molded inner cup. It also compresses your bosom against the chest wall for added protection.
The latter separates and cradles the breasts in their own individual compartments, for maximum immobility. Of the two, encapsulation bras have proven more effective at alleviating breast movement and pain. This bra type is also 30% more effective than painkillers.
A superior full figure sports bra provides both compression and encapsulation, while eliminating painful chafing and bounce. Arched cups, reinforced side seaming and extra padding do the rest of the job.
What about the back support that full figured sportswomen also require? Look for a nylon spandex racer back style and numerous front hooks.
When you move vigorously, your breasts move in different directions, depending on the type of exercise. Therefore, top sports bras are bounce-tested to determine which ones are best at minimizing shift.
Dr. Joanna Scurr, has performed intensive research on breast movement during sports on women up to size JJ. Test subjects donned sensors while sprinting, jumping, rapidly changing direction, riding horseback and swimming. She was able to document how much movement occurred in each direction.
To further complicate matters, different types of exercise make your breasts move in different directions. Tennis players expose their breasts to extensive lateral motion, whereas step aerobics causes an up and down bouncing action.
To try on sports bras, always fasten them on the loosest set of hooks. A properly fitting sports bra should allow zero spillover. The band should not bind, and should be secure enough to remain stationary when you move.
In the dressing room, try your typical exercise mode. Jump up and down, do a yoga pose and jog in place. How effective is the bra at minimizing bust movement? Try a front zip bra with a locking zipper, or multiple hooks
If you are a C cup and only exercise at a low or moderate level, you may not need underwire, but you definitely need two distinct and supportive cups. You cant get away with the uniboob look of the smaller ladies.
You may be thinking: I only speed walk or jog. I dont need a sports bra. Dr. Scurr has disproved this mistaken notion. Surprisingly, sprinting does't cause as much increase in breast movement as switching from normal walking to power walking, or from power walking to jogging. Its the transition between speeds that puts the stress on your breasts.
For D cups and above, don't worry about the under wire comfort factor padding will protect your tender areas from pinching. At this level, buy the sports bra with as much support as possible. You will probably still experience some spillage and bust line movement.
Dont forget to wear your supportive bra under your swimsuit, for swimming laps and performing water aerobics. Taking this step will maximize your aquatic activities.
Straps
Adjustable straps are a good idea, as strap position is relevant to both the degree of support and alleviation of the amount of weight that your shoulders carry.
Wide, padded straps are a must. Bra designers sometimes call these comfort straps. If youve never worn these, try them and youll never go back to regular, skinny straps. They never dig, and have the added feature of distributing bust line weight evenly.

Dressing for the Office

Why would a full figured woman need a padded bra? Even though it sounds illogical, padded bras provide the essential nipple coverage that you need in conservative situations.
Padded bras for larger gals are available, so persist until you find one. And dont forget to look for shaping and support. Another way to go is to buy silicone nipple covers, which are widely available and quite affordable.

It seemed just like yesterday when i wished my family members and friends merry Xmas and happy new year and,just like that,I can't believe year 2011 is gradually drawing it's curtains.

I was wondering the better way to celebrate with all our numerous fans world over and so, I decided to make this noel edition of BIG SISTER Magazine available online for their reading delight in any part of the world that they may be.

I thought since it was that time of the year again where families come together to bid the year fare well, it would be wise to make this edition more of a family affair and so in this edition, I share with you an interesting interview I had some time back with the Krimi sisters. Fidelia an ex-miss big queen and Franka, the last woman standing on MTN Project Fame season 2. After my timeout with the sisters, i noticed one similar thing about them, a carriage of good self confidence.

As a life style magazine designed to be the best companion and guide for the curvy and plus size sisters in our society, we are not relenting effort in guiding you even in this holiday season . Our regular columns offers some useful tips to make sure you maintain a healthy life style.

‘My Life after MTN Project Fame West Africa’

MTN PROJECT Fame is no doubt one of biggest singing competition in West Africa, over the years, the show has produced great talent across the continent, one of such products is Franka better known as Krimi in the MTN PF academy. Krimi who is in her 20's is an alumni of the season two edition, during the show, she proved to people who think size is a constraint that she was simply good and that won her the fourth highest vote making her emerge as the last woman standing with a cash price of one million Nigerian Naira. As a number one fan of Krimi during her days in the academy, I was curious to know what life was like after the show, so this noel edition BIG SISTER Magazine, your truly Elsie-Coco presents to you the brilliant interview I had with her, sometime this year and she gladly led me into her world.

I would love to have an sight of your family background?

KRIMI: My name is Krimi Johnson. I am from a family of eight which includes my father, mother, and six kids. We are four girls and two boys and happen to be the number four. I am from Taraba State,(north) Nigeria, and my mum is from the Yoruba tribe (West) which makes me a mix breed.

Where did you school?

KRIMI: I schooled in the Polytechnic Ibadan and also schooled in Lead City University also in Ibadan where I majored in Politics and International Relations. I did my youth service in Osun state and presently, I live in Hyattsville, Maryland in the United States of America.

Before you entered for MTN PROJECT Fame season 2 competition, were you singing?

KRIMI:Before I entered project fame, I was singing in the church, I sang in concerts and I sometimes did backup singing, mostly I did backup for most artists. I had a band that did the whole hi- life thing for weddings and parties.

At what age did you start singing?

KRIMI: I was about 9 years old when I started. I remember the first big program we had then in Katsina in the north, I was so shy when they told me I was going to lead the children choir and I did a great job, and after words singing became a part of me.

What made you enter into the MTN PF competition?

KRIMI: I remember that day I was going to, eat Amala with my friends and I asked my friend for her phone to make a call but she refused, so I bought an MTN recharge card, then I saw the adverts, I was thrilled but still didn't want to go, so my elder sister Fidelia, Miss Big Queen, went online and filled the form, and then took me there and that was it.

How was it like making it into the academy after the various screening"
KRIMI: Honestly it was tough, after the Ibadan stage, which I was the only one chosen (and incidentally, that was their first time of coming to Ibadan) I was called to Lagos where I met twenty-four incredible singers and then they screened again to eighteen and then I fell in the bottom six where they had to pick the final fifteen, but I thank God because, He did it all, that was it.

What was your experience like with your fellow contestants in the academy?

KRIMI: Being the plus sized in the academy then, it was really challenging because we had the so called slim and sexy girls with great voices, but I still stood out and thanks to West Africa for helping me do that, most times I had do extra things like dancing and some funny things but I thank God for making it work for me.

Who were your closest pal?

KRIMI: Okay, I was close to every body in so many ways, I had Madonna as my friend in the house and I had Sametta a my mummy. I had David as my brother, and Mike(the winner) as my trouble friend. He was always looking for trouble every where. It was all fun with Denice,Dami Desmond, Zoe, Jenifer, Savanna,Tari our Tom boy, Nicolas was also troublesome and Anis. In short, I was close to every body, we all had fun I tell you.

While the academy, can you recount your best performance and worst performance?

KRIMI:   My best was 'Don't cry for me Argentina' by Madonna, and my worst was the African week, and I sang along side Lara George.

Two years gone by since MTN PF2, what is the experience like?

KRIMI: It has been great and I tell you, right now every body wants to marry me, the fame is good, and it's real, the buzz is good, and its big, meeting people and going places.

Any album plan ?

KRIMI: My album is on hold right now but I am working on a project in America.

You seem to have this great carriage and good dress sense that some plus size sisters don’t have, what’s the secret?

KRIMI: My secret is wear what fits you and not what people wear, and be proud in it.

Message to the plus size sisters who seem to suffer from a low self esteem?

KRIMI: Get up and, and do something good with that sexy body that the Lord has given you, beauty comes from the inside, you need to feel the beauty before people see you and tell you.

Last word for fans and supporters of Krimi?

KRIMI:I love you all but Jesus loves you best.

After my brilliant interview with Franka (on our cover story) I was curious to meet Fidelia, her elder sister (who by the way could pass for her twin sister). Fidelia who is an ex-plus size beauty queen, remains a plus size advocate and in her words, 'My body size motivates me', she had a lot to inspire fellow big sisters out there. Have you always been on the big side as a child?

FIDELIA:No, but there were strong 50-50 tendencies of me being big.

How?

FIDELIA: My father is tall and big and so is my mum, so, I had tendencies because it runs in the family.

So at what age did you start putting on weight?

FIDELIA:When I was about fifteen or sixteen years old.

Has your weight ever depressed you in anyway?

FIDELIA:Ironically, it has been motivating me.

I can do anything I want to do and there is nothing a slim woman can do that I can’t do.

I swim, I dance.

When it comes to fashion, what do you feel comfortable wearing most?

FIDELIA:I wear what makes me feel good

especially, casuals

but I feel sexy in dresses.

The mistake plus sized ladies do is

and in the process the look horrible.

If we are plus sized, then we should dress our look.

Winning Miss Big Taraba State why did you enter for the competition?

FIDELIA:I was in Ibadan when someone called me up for the Miss Big Bold and Beautiful Nigeria, 2010.

I went in, made it through the finalist but unfortunately wasn’t crown the queen.

Then, after a long while, my sister called me up from Adamawa told me about the Miss Bold and Beautiful Taraba. And I was cool with it, even though I didn’t buy the form with my money, I gave it a try and I won.

Having participated in two plus size beauty pageants, did you feel more confident of yourself most especially, seeing people bigger than you in size?

FIDELIA:I have confidence even if, it is with a size 12. I’m not easily intimidated.

What was the whole experience like?

FIDELIA:I had fun. I’m from Taraba and it was more like a vacation trip since I had not traveled home for a long time. I had little trips and treat. I had a sponsored trip to the U.K as well, it wasn't a big affair though, but i hope they work on something better.

As a single plus size sister, who is your ideal man?

FIDELIA:I like men with height or possibility taller than me. I don’t really like short men but if he’s smart and intelligent, then no problem. He must love me more than myself.

As regards to relationship with the opposite sex, has s your weight ever been an issue?

FIDELIA:He must have seen me before coming to me. If he wanted a slim lady, then he should have gone for Naomi Campbell. I am not asking him to carry me.

What are your hobbies?

FIDELIA:I enjoy dancing , swimming and also interacting, taking. I sing little too.

What is your final word to some big sisters out there who have a low self esteem?

FIDELIA:The real African woman is not slim. It’s a stigma that people attach to the plus sized that makes them feel uneasy.

You are beautiful and lucky to come as a full option.

Fat is not an ailment, but when you are not exercising, then there is a problem. Don’t forget to move around to stay healthy, do what you enjoy doing very well and have fun

USEFUL EXERCISE TIPS DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Even as the holiday season begins, do not get lazy about it stocking your stomach to large portions of food, drinks and sleep, try increase your physical activities during this holidays season. Exercise can burn up a few calories, reduce holiday stress, and renew your energy level. Here are a few simple exercises that you can start with;

CYCLING

If you have a bicycle, you can ride round your neighborhood early in the mornings or in the evenings, you can also use the cycling machine at the gym. Cycling can burn up to 700 calories in an hour.

BRISK WALKING

As the season begins, always take a brisk walk around your neighborhood mostly in the evenings at least 10-30 minutes per day. This will help balance your fitness.

In case you wish to find a real solution to healthy eating during the holiday season, here are a few strategies for avoiding those extra holiday pounds without shunning the festivities. You do not have to feel deprived this season , just make compromises and better choices.

Healthy Eating Habits

Tasty Alternatives of Alcohol

Drink more of fruit juice or water instead of alcohol and ice creams during the holidays. You can still have one glass of soda or eggnog at supper, but you should avoid chugging numerous cans of coke throughout the holidays.

Laying Off the Sweet food

Skip all the chocolates and candies if you can and replace with a piece of fruit instead. Yes, that may sound lame, but your body will thank you in the end. If the thought of noshin' on an apple sends shivers down your spine, why not grab a few mandarin oranges or slice up a mango as a special holiday treat? Remember that you can always grab a handful of dried cranberries, apricots or pineapple slices too!

Avoiding Fatty Food

Try to avoid buggers and chips as much as you can. To compensate for those high-calorie foods, go for oods that are high in soluble fiber (such as fruits, vegetables, barley, oats, and legumes) slow the transit of food through the upper digestive tract, making you feel fuller for a longer time. So eat a delicious apple or crisp carrots as a snack rather than grabbing a handful of chips.

Everything in Moderation

Remember that you don't have to cut out all the tasty treats from your diet that are circulating at this time of the year - it's just a matter of "everything in moderation." Instead of piling your plate with turkey and all the fixings, take smaller portions. If you're still hungry after dinner, go back for a second round of veggies. And if you want a couple of chocolates, go for it. Just don't end up sitting in front of the TV watching holiday specials and finishing off a whole box on your own!

TIPS ON BECOMING A PLUS SIZE MODEL

Half of the mails we receive from our fans have to do with modeling and we thought it was necessary to give them tips on how to become a plus size model. Becoming a plus-size model may require a little extra height and an ideal size range, but you'll also need drive and a tough skin to make it in the industry. If you've got what it takes and you're interested in plus-size modeling, review the basics to get started and get your portfolio out there.

Create Your Portfolio:
When you're first breaking into the industry, you won’t need a full portfolio to begin making inquiries. Instead, concentrate on photographs that show your natural beauty and that aren’t particularly staged or posed. Aim for at least one high-quality face shot and a full-body shot in simple, flattering attire.

Note: If you have poor-quality photographs, it's advised to arrive at the agency without photographs. If you are a beginning model and show potential, many agencies will understand.

Contact Agencies: You'll need to get in touch with modeling agencies to jumpstart your professional career, but educate yourself about the "right" agencies. Check out potential agencies' reputations with other professionals in the industry, and never pay fees to apply or sign onto an agency.
Call the top three agencies in your area and schedule appointments to meet. On the day of your appointment, wear comfortable, semi-casual clothing that fit well. Consider wearing a pair of kitten heels to add a little extra height without being overly obvious.
Attend an Open Call: Open calls can be an overwhelming experience, particularly if you find yourself in a large group of hopefuls.

Some agencies may have you fill out an extensive form before speaking with you. You will need to identify your contact information, interests, measurements, and experience. You may also be measured by the modeling agency representative.

Smile, and don't let any criticism get to you. As you attend more casting calls, you could hear comments on your headshots or figure. Simply say thank you and move on.

Know that if you do get signed, you'll be expected to create a portfolio, as well as comp/zed cards. While this is a substantial cards, do not pay an agency to be on their website, to be represented, or to attend their school.

Plus Size Modeling Requirements
While you may need to fit into a certain size to become a plus model, that's not all. Plus models are generally 5'8" to 6' in height, and wear a size 10 and up.
