Bob Heironimus, a 64-year-old retired man from Yakima, Washington, claims the famous 1967 Roger Patterson film of the legendary "Bigfoot" was all a hoax, on PAX TV's "Lie Detector," airing Tuesday, May 17, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Heironimus submitted to a lie detector test administered by leading polygraph expert Dr. Ed Gelb to try to prove that he was the infamous creature shot on film in Bluff Creek, California, wearing just a modified gorilla costume, which does not match the figure in the Patterson film. Not even close.

Hosted by Rolonda Watts, "Lie Detector" is a provocative series that examines the truth behind real-life stories ripped from the headlines, using the most powerful instrument to detect deception - the polygraph.

Heironimus took the polygraph on live television and passed the test according to Dr. Ed Gelb, proving once and for all that along with passed polygraphs by serial killers like Ted Bundy, Heironimus believes he was the man in the suit to the degree that he too was able to pass the polygraph.
Is it any wonder the polygraph is not admissible evidence in a court of law?

It is note worthy to mention that Heironimus is unable to produce the alleged costume with breasts he allegedly wore 38 years ago and he was unable to satisfactorly say why he waited all these years to make such an admission.

Additionally, Heironimus footprints do not match those left by the creature in the Patterson Film and he is unable to duplicate the locomotion of the creature filmed by Roger Patteron in October of 1967. The fundamental nature of Heironimus' statement is phoney. He lied and passed the polygraph anyway, just as serial killer Ted Bundy did all the way down death row to the electric chair.

These pictures are from Bill's Discovery Day V presentation, as he discussed in great detail his recent work, made possible by a Grant arranged by Dr. Meldrum, in recreating the anatomy of "Patty" using live models for in depth comparisons between her movement and various natural versions of the human form, both male and female, in costume and sans clothing. He also made several chest panels using various synthetic materials available in 1967, in order to try and recreate a costume which would duplicate the appearance of Patty and her movement. The third branch of this project was the recreation of the "costume" described by Bob Heironimus in his claim that he was hired by Roger Patterson to be the object of Roger's film. Not only has Bob been unable to describe the actual location that the film was made, let alone how to get there, but the research of Mr. Munns has now proven once and for all that the "costume" as described by Heironimus is structurally, anatomically, and logistically incapable of portraying what is in the famous 1967 Film.

ALBUQUREQUE (KRQE) - The Valles Caldera is an enormous volcanic crater in the Jemez Mountains in northern New Mexico, known for its elk herds.
Now the area is getting attention for what else may be living there.

According to some field researchers, the area has perfect living conditions for Bigfoot.

They even provide proof, a video that brought investigators from the Finding Bigfoot TV series , that airs on Animal Planet, to New Mexico.
On an episode of Finding Bigfoot, the team from the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization heads to the Jemez Mountains in northern New Mexico.

The BFRO came to New Mexico late last year after a thermal video was taken in 2011 by another man on an expedition to find Bigfoot.

Now, the team is trying to figure out the size of the image to make sure it's not just another camper by comparing it to a picture of Bobo, one of their researchers, who is standing in the same place.

It is not just the video that has the team convinced Bigfoot lives in northern New Mexico.

In 2008 a KRQE News 13 reporter followed another Bigfoot hunter, Tom Biscardi, who's been on the creature's trail for 40 years.

He has been looking for signs of the hairy beast all across the four corners area where there have been dozens of Bigfoot sightings since 1998.
Biscardi pointed out to us then what he thought were Bigfoot’s footprints near Farmington.
“I saw a tall, dark, broad figure, and it just walked right up against the truck," a New Mexico resident said, "I want to get out of here now."

The BFRO heard more stories from New Mexicans during a town hall meeting they held in Jemez Springs during their visit.
”I woke up in the middle of the night, went to get out of the bed. My window faces this way, and there was something in my window. It didn't have a neck at all,” another resident said.

Despite this evidence, Ben Radford, managing editor of Skeptical Inquirer Magazine, told KRQE News 13 in 2008 there is still a huge hole in the Bigfoot theory.

”If the creatures are out there they have to die somewhere why hasn't anyone found them?” Radford said.

Fossils Show When Sasquatch Ancestors and Monkeys Diverged

"These discoveries are important because they offer the earliest fossil evidence for either of these primate groups," --Nancy Stevens, an anthropologist at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

So more specifically, the fossils suggest the time when apes diverged from monkeys, or as I like to translate it, "when Sasquatch ancestors diverged from monkeys". Skeptics will prefer that I am not so definitive about the existence of Bigfoots and some bigfooters would prefer I not diminish Bigfoots' intelligence and culture by associating them to apes. In order to to dissuade both camps from criticism I'm just gonna say that a blog about Bigfoot is obviously hopeful that Bigfoot will be a recognized species and to non-apers, apes is a designation of biology, not a comment on culture or intelligence.

Now we can get to the cool part and why this article is interesting. There was a gap in the fossil record and we really didn't know when monkeys and apes diverged. DNA research suggested it was about 25 million years ago, but we had no physical evidence that supported that. So this is a twofer; 1) we get solid physical evidence and 2) it supports what DNA had suggested.

Due to the confirmation of what DNA can tell us, This finding makes us more anxious for what is store with Bryan Sykes Bigfoot DNA study and Future Bigfoot DNA studies in general.

The fossil remnants of these two primate species date back to 25 million years ago, filling a gap in the fossil record that reveals when apes and monkeys first diverged.

"These discoveries are important because they offer the earliest fossil evidence for either of these primate groups," said lead study author Nancy Stevens, an anthropologist at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

DNA evidence has long suggested that apes and Old World monkeys diverged from a common ancestor between 25 million and 30 million years ago. But until now, no fossils older than 20 million years had been found.

The age of the new specimens extends the origin of apes and Old World monkeys into the Oligocene Epoch, which lasted from 34 million to 23 million years ago. Previously, only three primate species were known from the late Oligocene globally, Stevens said.

"These finds can help us to further refine hypotheses about the timing of diversification of major primate groups," Stevens said.

Scientific American: Dear Animal Planet, Learn The Difference Between Real and Fake Monsters

Don't call them River Monsters! They have feelings!

I love good skeptics, I hate lazy ones. When I say this I always cite my favorites. Sharon Hill of Doubtful News and a Huffington Post contributor and Brian Dunning of Skeptoid. Most others reach for the low hanging fruit or are just contrarians. These last two category of skeptics, the fruit-pickers and the contrarians, are unimpressive. Yes, this assumes I am worthy of being impressed, and truth be known, I can't think of a better person I would like to spend time impressing than myself.

back to lazy skeptics, more specifically Kyle Hill (pictured left), a science writer who specializes in finding the secret science in your favorite fandom. Hill has also contributed to Wired, Nature Education, Popular Science, and io9. At least that what is says on his bio for Scientific American. Today he wrote an open letter to Animal Planet asking them not to blur the lines between real and fake using shows like River Monsters, Finding Bigfoot, and Mermaids: The New Evidence as an examples that create an uphill battle for serious science educators. Boo hoo. Science is a method, teach the method and let people educate themselves.

The gist of his argument is real fish should not be called "monsters" and mythical creatures should not be considered real. We agree, leprechauns and unicorns should not be considered real--oh wait, he's putting Bigfoot/Sasquatch into this mythical category. Read for yourself below as he tries to protect the reputation of fish and uses the same knee-jerk arguments against the Bigfoot evidence.

I don’t want to see a legion of fisherman descend on the Congo or Amazon rivers to wipe out tiger fish, or any other animal, out of misplaced fear. Each time River Monsters decides to characterize a fish as a “flesh ripping chainsaw mauling atomic assassin,” the possibility grows. Don’t turn magnificent creatures into mythological horrors.

And don’t turn mythological horrors into real creatures.

I’m afraid I can’t speak highly of your track record when it comes to presenting evidence-based programming, considering that Finding Bigfoot never finds, and won’t ever find, Bigfoot. But never has it been worse than with Mermaids: The Body Found and the upcoming Mermaids: The New Evidence.

Cryptozoology persists precisely because there is no evidence for these creatures. If we actually found Bigfoot or mermaids, they would be studied, cataloged, and brought into the wide swath of biological knowledge. Bigfoot does not exist because there would be evidence left behind—hair, feces, bones, kills, offspring, a carcass—if it did. Considering how many expeditions have attempted to find this evidence and have come up short, in spite of the Bigfoot hunters who claim these creatures number in the thousands, we can effectively rule Bigfoot out. Admittedly, it’s hard to criticize the search for mermaids in the same way. We only recently captured the fabled giant squid on camera. But the difference between these sea monsters is that the squid, prowling the depths off Japan, leaves evidence behind (beaks, tentacles, whole carcasses).

Funny how footprints and casts never make the list of missing evidence. And there have been potential hair and feces samples that are currently being investigated by Bryan Sykes of the University of Oxford. I also think it is crazy that people assume a population of thousands should be easy to find. We have downed airplanes that we can't find in the wilderness, and those had trajectories to give us clues!

Finally, these are TV shows not documentaries. Anybody who's research stops at a TV show bracketed by commercials and ads is not someone you should care to persuade anyway. Let Animal Planet entertain, because I think people are smarter than Kyle Hill gives them credit for.

Canadian bus driver and 6 passengers claim they saw Bigfoot.

"The hoax would be more important than a real Sasquatch sighting...it would teach us a lesson to smarten up." -- Rene Dahinden on the possibility the Canadian sighting was a hoax

The hoaxers eventually did fess up, but as Rene has said this is an important hoax to dissect. So that's what we are going to do. But first let's start with the sighting.

As the story goes a Canadian bus driver named Pat Lindquist, who also happened to be a reserve Vancouver city police officer, was westbound a mile east of Lake Erroch on the Harrison Hot Springs-to-Vancouver run when he saw a 7 foot tall creature with black fur and a light colored face. It was estimated to be 300 pounds, but weight estimates usually just indicate it was heavier than the average human--very hard to guess visually.

This was an interesting encounter, because not only was the creature witnessed by the bus driver, but all six passengers saw it too, some waking up to see the creature! It gets better, the driver stops the bus and gives chase. He actually gets out of the bus and catches up with the creature. In the Oklahoma City Times he describes the confrontation:

"The first thing I noticed was the smell...a horrible smell like very rotten meat. The bush was thick and I was pushing the branches apart when I saw it about 20 or 25 feet away. I just couldn't believe it."

"At first I was mad. But then I went to awe and then to fright and I began to shake. I couldn't stop shaking and then I got out of there." The smell has been a common element in the reports from numerous people who claim to have been close to the Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot.

Lindquist, who is 6-foot-2, said the thing before him was no more than seven feet tall, only "much heavier than I am." "It had flat, flared nostrils like a monkey and large, wide eyes. It didn't make any sound except heavy breathing. It had a

broad chest and it was heavy up and down."

"It could have taken two steps and grabbed me, but it didn't do anything. It didn't growl. It didn't show its teeth. It just looked at me." Lindquist said the hair on its face was a light brown and "it appeared to have the mange; the skin underneath looked kind of white."

Ten days later the perpetrators admitted on radio that it was a hoax. Now, for those of you that think that we shouldn't dissect this hoax and give hoaxers any tips. I don't think there should be a concern. Either there is evidence or there isn't, otherwise it is just a story.

This hoax was composed of a team of four individuals and took weeks to prepare for, in fact they started by selecting a bus line and planted a passenger that would alert everybody else on the bus.

The gorilla suit was bought for $200 dollars and was worn by a guy who was 5-foot-11 and 165-pounds. A far cry from the 7-foot 300-pound creature described.

This story even had footprints made from a resin cast they created based on one seen in the book Sasquatch/Bigfoot: The Search for North America's Incredible Creature by Don Hunter and Rene Dahinden.

MISSION, British Columbia (AP) - A furry creature about seven feet tall lumbered across Highway 7 near this Fraser Valley community Sunday and made some believers in the legendary Sasquatch.

The sighting, 35 miles east of Vancouver, occurred as a Pacific Stage Lines bus driven by Pat Lindquist was westbound a mile east of Lake Erroch on the Harrison Hot Springs-to-Vancouver run.

The passengers and Lindquist saw ahead of the bus a glimpse of something they all described as a seven-foot tall, 300-pound beast with dark brown to black fur or hair and a light-colored face.

Lindquist, who police here describe as "very nervous and pale" when they arrived on the scene, later described what happened when he gave pursuit.

I remember when video games were the size of refrigerators and you were lucky if a character was made up of more than 20 pixels. The graphics had to be used so frugally and characters so small, video game developers called them sprites. Heck when I was a kid you could recreate video game characters out of skittles and still have enough left over to taste the rainbow.

Now handheld video games have all the power to render 3D polygons with skin, texture, shading and lighting effects. If you can't tell if I'm being nostalgic or impressed by the power of technology then I have struck the right tone. In the video below is the newest game that contains an entire 3D universe, or at least a 3D campground in your pocket.

The video below is adorable, sweet and just makes you feel good. Spend a few minutes and dream that you too can be secret friends with a Bigfoot.

Today in Bigfoot History | May 14th 1976 | Six Chinese Officials Surround a Yeren

There are basically two similar accounts for the story. We have pieced them together to create a continuous narrative. After the story check out some awesome concept art from the new Yeren Movie filmed last year in China.

On the evening of May 14th in 1976 six local Chinese government bureaucrats drove down a rural highway in the Hubei province. As they passed Chunshuy, a village between Fangxian county and Shennongjia, they came across a creature illuminated by the car headlights. The creature was described as being tailless with red fur and recognized immediately as the Chines Wildman a/k/a Yeren.

The Yeren made an attempt to flee, climbing a nearby embankment and escaping into the darkness. The climb was unsuccessful and the creature fell back into the glare of the headlights, crouching on all fours.

Startled, a passenger threw a rock at the creature from behind and the creature ran off, this time successfully escaping from sight.

This initiated a great degree of public interest, people writing in to report other sightings and groups of scientists and the army mounting expeditions into the forest. A massive expedition by the Chinese Academy of Sciences included a team of over a hundred members of scientists, photographers and soldiers. The team was equipped with rifles, tranquilizer dart guns, tape recorders and hunting dogs, worked in the area during 1976 and 1977, interviewing hundreds of people. Together with army scouts and commune members, the team organized several large searches, but (as is usual with such expeditions) they found nothing definite. At one point the expedition search party moved near to one of the creatures; unfortunately 'before the beast could be captured an anxious soldier accidentally shot himself in the leg. The shot brought expedition members scurrying in from all directions and presumably frightened the creature away.

The 16mm Cine-Kodak K-100 was the camera rented by Roger Patterson
and used to film the most iconic footage of Bigfoot.

On May 13th in 1967 Roger Patterson rented a 16mm Cine-Kodak K-100 camera from the Yakima Camera Shop. Although the rental was intended for only two days, we know Roger Patterson had it until at least October 20th of the same year. This was the date of the famous Patterson/Gimlin film when both Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin filmed what appears to be a female Sasquatch walking in the Bluff Creek area.

Our favorite part about Bigfoot research, is the ability to geek out on ancillary research that contributes to our larger set of Sasquatch knowledge. In this instance, the Cine-Kodak K-100 provides a lot of opportunity to disect the P/G film. Even better there is a man who has done the research for us; Bill Munns.

Bill Munns has probably done the most research on the type of camera and settings used to captured the P/G film. In the self-titled Munns Report he describes he showcases how important the camera detail is in reconstructing the P/G film site.

"In the process of that attempt to build the digital model, I have discovered something about the film which has been mistakenly assumed by one and all for the last 41 years, and it does impact significantly on any analysis of the film. All assumption has been that the lens on Roger Patterson's camera was a 25mm lens, the standard issue lens for the Kodak K-100 camera. My analysis indicates that the camera has a 15mm lens on it instead (presumption being a Kodak Cine Ektar 15mm lens with S mount to C mount adapter, as per the Kodak camera user's guide,because the camera requires a companion viewfinder lens of same focal length, which Kodak only supplied for it's Cine Ektar lenses." "...I immersed myself in the analysis of the film, I felt that building a digital model of the film site may help clear up some issues, and having 12 years now working with 3D visualization software, I felt I had a good background to attempt this. But in trying to build the digital model, I began to see discrepancies with the general report that the Patterson film was taken with a Kodak K-100 single lens camera with the standard 25mm Ektar lens on it. My analysis indicated a wider angle lens was necessary to replicate the filming, and the only wider angle lens made by Kodak (and having the appropriate viewfinder companion lens) was the 15mm Ektar. So I tested building the digital site model using the 15mm lens specification, and it assembled quite splendidly, and very accurately, in terms of locating seven distinct camera positions and matching them in the digital model so the digital model renderings overlay the actual film frames exceptionally well."

Patterson/Gimlin Film

Bill Munns is a Hollywood creature designer, 3D computer graphics professional, and arguably the foremost expert on the Patterson/Gimlin film. Bill Munns is campaigning for funds and planning the production of a feature length documentary touting, "the remarkable truth of the Patterson/Gimlin Film, and the Bigfoot/Sasquatch phenomenon."

According to Bill Munn's video on IndiGoGo (see below), his goal is to produce something worthy of submitting to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), a/k/a the Oscars. He believes this level of visibility will encourage mainstream media to take notice and raise the bar for intelligent discussion.

At IndieGogo, the crowdsourcing website Bill Munns has chosen, Bill Munns describes the documentary:

The documentary, by it’s vary title, seems to be focused simply on the PGF event, but it will equally give abundant attention to the many other respectful research efforts ongoing today. But an excellent documentary feature tells a story the audience can relate to, and the concept I have chosen is to first take the one most powerful event in Bigfoot/Sasquatch lore and show why, beyond any doubt, it is a real event, and then, with that established, expand the story to the current research efforts, their accomplishments and their challenges as they continue. So the PGF, the event where Roger Patterson met and filmed the entity we call Patty, that is the title centerpiece of this story, and effectively sets up the discussions of current research. So please do not think this project neglects the many fine research endeavors currently ongoing. The PGF focus in the title is simply what in great narrative program structure is referred to as “the hook”, that element which catches the public and mainstream media’s attention and holds on, so they will continue to watch and learn about all the other fine research projects today.

I’ve already got 5 years of concentrated effort in the PGF analysis, some wonderful scientific research that was funded by the Cestone Foundation through the greatly appreciated assistance of Prof. Jef Meldrum, and I’ve got about 15 hours of HD video already accumulated as potential footage for the documentary. So I’m well positioned to reach the goal. But producing a feature documentary that is eligible for Academy Award consideration and festival submission is a major undertaking, and needs some financial support. So that’s what I’m asking for now.

Munns also describes a the documentary approach and a possible second episodic format for perhaps television.

The Documentary Concept

A great documentary tells a story in a focused and concise way, The documentary program concept recognizes that the PGF is the most familiar event in the mind of the general public and media, so the program leads with a definitive summation of why the PGF is real. Then the program branches out to examine the many new technique and new technologies being applied to this elusive entity we call Bigfoot or Sasquatch. I have commitments for interviews with Jeff Meldrum, Brian Brown and the TBRC/TWARC field studies, Bart Cutino and his thermal studies, and The Olympic Project’s remarkably diligent field studies.

Second, the production concept is that researchers, not TV program executives, should control the editing and content decisions. TV Program executives have lost sight of reality and responsible science and can’t resist program eye candy and sensationalism, out of context, over science in context. The story of this remarkably mysterious entity must be told with sincere respect for the real science, the real research, and the real challenges of bringing this entity into a position of biological science recognition. The content decisions and the final edit must be in the hands of researchers. This program will be.

Program Versions

One of the unique aspects of this project is that it recognizes that studies of this topic need different levels of detail and varying presentation times for different audiences, and so the final program result will be set up with four levels of comprehensive information.

The terms Bigfoot and Sasquatch are relatively modern terms, at least modern when used among most of us less indigenous folks. Before Bigfoot and Sasquatch there was the Wildman. Often described the same way as the Bigfoots we have come to know and love. The Memphis Enquirer, article dated May 9th, 1851 is a case in point. As you read the the description of hair, foot size and the amazing ability to leap up to 14ft at a time, you get a sense that this is a description familiar to most of us.

Even more interesting to us is the history the Wildman has had in the area, outdoorsmen describing encounters 17 years prior, starting as far back as 1834.

"Wild Man of the Woods"

"During March last, Mr. Hamilton of Greene County, Arkansas, while out hunting with an acquaintance, observed a drove of cattle in a state of apparent alarm, evidently pursued by some dreaded enemy.

Halting for the purpose, they soon discovered as the animals fled by them, that they were followed by an animal bearing the unmistakable likeness of humanity.

He was of gigantic stature, the body being covered with hair and the head with long locks of hair that fairly enveloped his neck and shoulders.

The "wildman," for we must so call him, after looking at them deliberately for a short time, turned and ran away with great speed, leaping from twelve to fourteen feet at a time. His foot prints measured thirteen inches each.

This singular creature has long been known traditionally in St. Francis Green and Poinsett Counties.

Arkansas sportsmen and hunters having described him so long as seventeen years hence.

A planter, indeed, saw him very recently, but withheld his information lest he should not be credited, until the account of Mr. Hamilton and his friend placed the existence of the animal beyond cavil."

Is Bigfoot the New Zombie?

Zombies and vampires have gotten all the attention lately. With Twilight, Walking Dead, countless remakes, TV shows, spinoffs, and more, there hasn't been a lot of room for other creatures of the night.

And while Bigfoot had been lying dormant since Harry and the Hendersons—save a few lame cameos in documentaries about unexplained phenomena—he's actually laid a lot of tracks lately. Now he has his own shows, stars in beef jerky commercials, has a MySpace profile (yes, he's a little behind the Facebook craze), and at least 2 feature films! But how far will it go? Will the real Bigfoot become a mockery in the shadow of the fantastical Bigfoot?

Let's take a look at the comeback of Bigfoot over the past several years.

Messing with Sasquatch (2006-2012)
The ad campaign for Jack Link's beef jerky featured various campers and outdoorsmen playing pranks on Sasquatch, only to have our hairy friend get back at them at the end of each ad. Check out a compilation of them in this video machup or the latest ads on his Jack Link's page.

Monster Quest (2007-2010)
History Channel's run of the series Monster Quest featured two episodes dedicated to the Bigfoot phenomena in 2007. In subsequent seasons, there were a few more episodes with creatures that resembled what could variations of Bigfoot in other parts of the world.

Bigfoot (2009)
The family-friendly movie has Bigfoot as a loveable creature, who has lost his home in the forest as a result of a forest fire. He runs into Percy, a teenager who is bullied by a couple of other teenagers, and the two form a strong bond. The two bullies eventually find Bigfoot and capture him, and it's up to Percy and his two friends to rescue Bigfoot and find him a new home.

Finding Bigfoot (2011-)
The Animal Planet documentary series follows the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) in their search for our Bigfoot throughout North America. The team utilizes testimony from eyewitnesses as well as advanced technology, including night-vision and thermal imaging cameras. Season 3 includes investigations in Australia and Indonesia.

Bigfoot (2012)
The low budget made-for-TV SyFy flick depicts our favorite cryptic hominid as a wild, 20ft tall, vicious monster out to kill (clearly, he's just misunderstood) and wreaking havoc on a small community. Former icons Danny Bonaduce and Barry Williams are in the film, as well as several other faces you'd probably recognize from other indie films. While different from other renditions of the creature, if you have any respect for the actual Bigfoot, or film in general, you might want to pass on this cheese fest. Maybe Bobcat Goldthwait's Willow Creek will prove better once it's released.

10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty (2013-)
With the promise of $10 million for irrefutable evidence of the existence of Bigfoot, the new reality show follows several teams of explorers as they seek to answer the question of whether Bigfoot is real or not. Last year, BigFootLunchClub posted interesting fan reactions from other sites regarding show. Some believe the high dollar reward, the largest sum in TV history, suggests that producers and executives of the show probably do not believe the feat is possible. Either that or they are true believers who are out to change history. Hmmm. According to direct2tv.com, the 10 episode show is scheduled to air on Spike TV this year.

With the additional exposure, will Bigfoot knock Zombies and Vampires off their pedestal? While fans want to see Bigfoot get the credit, respect, and admiration he deserves, more attention could push people away. Folks are already losing interest in Zombies and Vampires because of their oversaturated exposure. If Bigfoot "sell outs" he could share the same fate.

Maybe after the masses have grown tired of him and all the dust has settled, true fans will once again be able to focus again on what really matters….finding him.

Seth Rogan Animates Graham Roumieu's "Bigfoot"

Roumieu, whose illustrations have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Progressive, reveals the hairy hominids's brave struggles with eating disorders, casual cannibalism, and philosophical quandaries ("Me once believe in good. Now, no. World go shit, like Bigfoot screenwriting career.").

Recently it has been announced that these hilarious quips and quandaries will be translated into an animated series on FX. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and "American Dad" writer Matt McKenna is on board to develop the project.

FX Announces New Network to Launch in September

The cable network is developing an animated comedy based on the faux autobiography books by Graham Roumieu, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

From FX Productions, Bigfoot is an adaption of Roumieu's comedic works In Me Own Words, Me Write Book and I Not Dead and follows Bigfoot, who is described as a bipolar hopeless romantic who lacks the ability to properly express himself, living in both the human and animal world of Pine Falls but not quite fitting in to either one.

PHOTOS: The Faces of Pilot Season 2013

American Dad writer/supervising producer Matt McKenna will write and executive produce the project. Point Grey Pictures' Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg also are on board to serve as EPs. The Jimmy Miller Co. and Floyd County Productions also will executive produce alongside Roumieu.

For FX, should the project move forward, it would join a roster that includes Archer and Unsupervised -- which also hail from Floyd County Productions.

The news comes as FX is preparing to launch comedy-themed offshoot network FXX, which will house half-hours including It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League and Legit, when it bows in September.

It's too early to say whether Bigfoot will air on FX or FXX.

Can't We All Just Get Along?

If Yeti's and Sasquatch can get along, why can't we?

The BFRO has been notorious for “throwing out” any accounts of sasquatch activity that also feature things like UFO’s, aliens, other sorts of cryptids, or telepathic communication.

I joined a BFRO web board several years ago and was summarily expelled from the site within days for mentioning the fact that my experience with sasquatch involved mild telepathic exposure (a phenomenon that I have never experienced in any other context).

I find it somewhat disheartening how sasquatch “researchers” (an appellation that many folks dislike) tend to follow a sort of polarity when it comes to the way they gather evidence. There are two camps: the “paranormalists” and the “apers.”

The first camp contains people who “go there” when it comes to supernatural encounters with sasquatches, while the second camp includes folks that believe human technology and scientific analysis will eventually reveal the existence of a heretofore uncatalogued species of primate.

Whenever I attend meetings, I feel a tug-of-war between these two extremes. My problem is that I sympathize with many ideas in BOTH camps while simultaneously feeling alienated by BOTH camps. I know that I am not alone.

Why is it that sasquatch researchers feel an almost religious need to have such adamant opinions about a great deal of experiences that defy explanation? I, for one, always try to stop myself from “proselytizing” when it comes to judging the views of others or foisting my speculations upon others as if “I have the answers.”

Let me give you an example of what I mean, and why I make a strong effort to “judge not, lest I be judged.”

A few years ago, I attended the Bigfoot Bash and Bounty in Washington. The weather was perfect, the beer was cold, and the conversations and mingling of enthusiasts started out civilly enough. However, this changed by the end of the afternoon, as the beer taps had been flowing copiously. One notorious field researcher actually threatened to shoot another (who, thank goodness, was not present).

This same researcher also told a story of riding a bear down a steep hill. Nobody present took the threat or the tall tale seriously, but the former was delivered with strong venom.

I didn’t take the threat seriously either, but the venom with which it was delivered did catch my attention. The man’s eyes were swelling out of his sockets, spittle was leaping out of his mouth, and his face was pulled back into a shock of gorgon-like intensity. In all fairness, nothing violent ever happened as a result of what was said. It was an empty threat made on a hot afternoon after a heroic number of beers had been consumed.

Still, the incident is worth considering. Why? Because it typifies a type of behavior that seems to follow bigfoot meetings like an invisible crone who sprinkles a faery dust of vitriol & extremism over people. It's also worth pointing out that, on the whole, bigfooters are normally quite gracious people. In fact, a certain form of unselfish benevolence often pervades their countenances.

It doesn't matter which camp you occupy--the "apers" or the "paranormalists"--the urge to caterwaul about sasquatch in group settings, or on the Internet, where opposing viewpoints are present, and then to gossip about "who said what" later, and "how ridiculous it was," seems to be the rule more than the exception.

Virtually no one who has devoted more than a few measly hours to the "Sasquatch Question" seems immune to the potency of that faery dust. Of course, this is not always the case, but when dogmatism rears its ugly snout, an otherwise cordial event has been known to degenerate rather quickly.

During more than a few meetings, I have been reminded of that classic scene in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, when the ring of great power causes everyone in its presence to begin arguing with each other, more and more vehemently, until a skirmish breaks out, which, thankfully, is halted before anyone is hurt. I suspect this sort of zealotry in otherwise mild mannered folk is not merely an accident . . . but that's another story and another article altogether. Sasquatches seem to bring out demons in those who witness them, or in those who dedicate a significant portion of their lives to uncovering the existence.

One person whom I greatly admire that has wended his way free of such polemic and such imbroglios is the beloved Bob Gimlin. Although I’m not a personal friend of Bob’s, I've had the pleasure of sharing beers with him at picnic tables on more than one occasion. I admire his ability to hold his ground without pandering and without getting caught up in slanderous diatribe that turns fiercely personal.

Bob’s knack for steering clear of shit-throwing matches (which are quite common among howler monkeys, but usually not homo sapien sapiens) is worthy of praise. It should stand out as an example of noble behavior that we all can strive to emulate. Despite the fact that his position in the bigfoot community is front and central, since he was present when the famous footage of “Patty” was taken (although we might as well call the creature “Bobbie” or “Gimli”) Bob takes the high ground.

In fact, things were so heated and weird back in the day, after the famous footage was captured on film, that Bob made the (wise) decision to keep out of the fray for decades before re-emerging as one of the most coveted speakers in the field, and for obvious reason: not only is he a charming elder statesman for cowboys everywhere, but he is also about as genuine and trustworthy as they come. And not to mention the fact that Bob covered Roger Patterson with his rifle on an afternoon that changed the field of bigfooting forever!

So what’s my point here? Well, I can answer that reasonable question with another more famous one, which has at least some relevance to bigfooter meetings, events, and gatherings everywhere, particularly when both apers and paranormalists decide to quaff alcoholic beverages together:

As Rodney King once stated, “Can’t we all just get along?”

Ok there is no doubt there is a horror element to the new Bigfoot movie by Bobcat Goldthwait. It is titled Willow Creek

As reported earlier Goldthwait has shot and completed his next movie entitled Willow Creek, and it is a cinéma vérité-style flick about Bigfoot. What's interesting is that the project isn’t a schlocky horror picture. Goldthwait has apparently mixed satire with some suspense, and overall his film is apparently rather driven by “exploring the idea of bearing witness.” The flick is home to various characters who believe they’ve seen the elusive Sasquatch. Each of them give differing accounts and at times even come to blows. Goldthwait is said to use this kind of tension to get in some observations on faith and religion.

Just as 1958 was a watershed moment for Bigfoot in the Bluff Creek, the same could be said about 1934 and Sasquatch in British Columbia. At the time, Tom Cedar's encounter (illustrated above) was just the most recent in a string of several other encounters spanning over 20 years.

This brings us to today's Bigfoot history topic. Two Sacramento brothers, medical students at the University of California, decide they would "bag" a Sasquatch. It was touted by the Associated Press in the Sacramento Bee as "America’s first Sasquatch-catching expedition."

Californians Out To Bag Legendary ‘Sasquatch’

VANCOUVER (B.C.), April 9. — (AP) — America’s first Sasquatch-catching expedition headed into the mountains of British Columbia today on a hunt for the horrible, hairy, naked bogey-man of Indian legend.

J. F. Blakeney and C. K. Blakeney, brothers, of Sacramento, medical students at the University of California, read reports of frightened tribesmen that the giant body-snatcher of old had been seen recently in the mountains north of Harrison Lake and determined to attempt to photograph or lasso a "Sasquatch."

The fabled Sasquatch, as described in Indian lore for hundreds of years, is about as villainous a phantasm as ever frightened a little papoose anywhere, but adult Indians also are fearful of the monsters.

They are supposed to lurk in the caves and glades of British Columbia, coming out in the twilight to peer moodily into Indian tepees, to glower and snatch at children, to steal food, play diabolical tricks and even kill warriors.

"Our professor of anthropology will be much interested," said the Blakeneys, as they left for the haunts of the Sasquatch.

British Columbia is a happy hunting ground for weird legends, and there is no lack of witnesses who will swear to them, as hundreds have sworn they have seen Ogopogo, the sheep-headed fresh-water serpent of Lake Okanogan, and the two big salt-water sea-serpents, Hiaschuckaluck Cadborosaurus and his "wife," Amy.

Are they the Last Cave Men?

British Columbia Startled by the Appearance of “Sasquatch,” a Strange Race of Hairy Giants

It is peculiarly in keeping with the topsy-turvy year of violently varying weather, universal human unrest, droughts, grasshopper plagues and other phenomena that there now comes from various eyewitnesses the report of seeing some of the “Sasquatch,” those weird hairy men reported for twenty years to dwell in the tremendous and unexplored mountain region of British Columbia, Canada.

Their reported return is particularly in keeping with this unusual year, as remarkable for the number of appearances of various startling monsters sighted from Scotland to the Caribbean, from the Pacific to the Mediterranean, the reality of which is affirmed by scores of eyewitnesses. Moreover, the statements of some of these people, in so far as curious denizens of the oceans are concerned, have been borne out, for within a short time of each other, at a dozen places on the European coast, the remains of incredible monsters of the deep have been cast up.

Of all these mysterious earthly visitants, perhaps the “Sasquatch” is the least known, by reason of the rarity of their appearance and the reluctance of those who have seen them to talk.

THE existence of a troglodyte race inhabiting the mountains of British Columbia in many of the vast caves is a tribal legend among the Chehalis Indians and those of the Skwah Reservation, near Chilliwack, in the Harrison Lake district, about a hundred miles east of Vancouver. Among the Indians the race has been known for centuries by the name “Sasquatch,” or hairy men.

But reports of these creatures being seen frequently at various times over a period of the last twenty years, and more frequently in recent weeks, have caused a number of people to raise the question if these strange creatures may not be more than an Indian legend of the past, and that some of this race of cavern dwellers are still living in the unexplored fastness of British Columbia.

The Sasquatch have been seen, according to the statements from both white men and Indians. The wild, hairy men have mostly been reported in the Harrison Lake district, but also as far east as the mountainous region of Yale, on the main line of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

The repeated reports of eyewitnesses of seeing one or more of the huge hairy men in recent years, and more particularly in the last month, and the mounting number of the reports of eyewitnesses now seem to point strongly that the old tribal legend, long contemptuously flouted by the white man, is true, and that at least a few of this mysterious race may still inhabit the solitudes nearby where once they were numerous. The possibility of this is further borne out when it is recalled that the remains of a giant race of men recently have been unearthed in the mountainous region of Mexico.

The chief difficulty, in fact the whole task of an investigator, in matters of such phenomena as Sasquatch or sea serpents, is, of course, the credibility of the witnesses. If untruthful, what motive lies behind their story? In the case of the Sasquatch, the element of credence is heightened because in most cases the witnesses have been reluctant ones, some of them not revealing their stories for years.

From a careful comparison of all eyewitness statements to date, all are closely in agreement as to the following facts: The Sasquatch are gigantic men, varying from six and one-half to seven feet in height. One, and only one, witness states the nose of them to be very broad, and the arms long, reaching below the knee. All but one are agreed as to the hideousness of the face.

However, as in most instances the Sasquatch were not seen close up, it is natural the descriptions remain very general. Those people who have been close were so terror-stricken that their accounts are vague. Yet, aside from one of the most recent happenings, in only two other cases have the Sasquatch shown themselves hostile.

THE fact that some of these strange people have just been reported close to civilization at this time accurately compares with dates noted by the Chehalis Indians. The Indians have oral records covering three generations. According to them, members of the tribe have seen in the Springtime every fourth year the light of a great fire on one of the highest peaks in the Chehalis Range. The fire burns for four nights, riding in a very high, thin column. Sometimes it is suddenly extinguished, to rise again a little later. That this is some periodic mark of a return to a certain place of worship at some ancient shrine, or a communication with members in some remote mountain fastness, are possible conjectures.

These periodic returns to some ancient gathering place do bring these people close to what are now civilized areas.

A few days ago, a middle-aged Indian, Tom Cedar, was trout fishing from his canoe on Morris Creek, a tributary of the Harrison. He was near a rocky terraced bank. Suddenly a large rock struck the water so close to his canoe that he was drenched by the splash. Looking up, he saw with amazement a huge hairy man above him just as he threw another rock. This also barely missed the canoe. Cedar paddled rapidly upstream to the settlement.

By way of noting an odd coincidence, this particular stream, now called Morris Creek, was known as Saskakau when the white man first arrived, and is so called on old maps. Nearby are caverns which were investigated by Captain Warde, forty years a resident in the district. He states they bear evidence of habitation. Upon the walls are some crude drawings. In this region, according to the Indians, two large bands of Sasquatch fought a long time ago until both were brought almost to extinction.

THE other evidence of hostile intention of some of these creatures dates back twenty years and consists of the statements of two Indians, Peter and Paul Williams, of Chehalis. The following is very much a condensed resume:

“On an evening in May,” states Peter, “I was about a mile from the reserve, near the foot of the mountain, when what I at first took to be a bear rose up in the underbrush. It was between six and seven feet tall, covered with hair. I turned and ran through the underbrush to my dugout. The hairy man came after me. I paddled across the stream, which is not very deep, and the man waded after. I reached the house where my wife and child were inside. I bolted the door. Presently the hairy man arrived. It was growing dark. He prowled around, grunting and growling, but after a little while went away.”

About the same time Paul was chased from a creek where he was fishing. But the giant did not run after him very far, and apparently the action was only to drive the man away to get the fish he had taken.

On another occasion in the next year, Peter and another man came upon two giants so close as to distinguish a man and a woman. Though the Indians ran, they were not pursued.

Charley Victor, now living at Chilliwack, relates that he and a little group of companions, while bathing in a mountain lake near Yale, suddenly looked up to see a huge man, naked and hairy, looking down upon them from among the trees.

“His big eyes looked very kind, and I was about to speak to him when he drew back into the trees,” related Charley.

Here we have the only witness who gives a favorable reaction to sight of the mysterious race.

This took place many years ago and at a point about a hundred miles from where the majority of the Sasquatch have been reported seen in recent times.

THE next account of which any fully recorded evidence is now to be seen deals with September, 1927, near the little mountain town of Agassiz, which is very near the points at which all the other Sasquatch have been reported. A party of hop-pickers were picnicking here. On their way to this[,] a man, named Herbert Point, and a girl, Adeline August, were walking when they saw a strange creature approaching. “He was twice as big as the average man, with hands [arms?] so long they nearly touched the ground, and his nose seemed spread all over his face. His body was covered with hair like an animal. He stopped within fifty feet of us. We ran away as fast as we could.” The lines in quotes are excerpts from a letter written by the man in answer to a query of what he had seen.

Within recent weeks Emma Paul and Millie Saul, two other members of the Chehalis Reserve, saw one of the Sasquatch near their home on the fringe of the woods. Several nights later he was heard prowling around the home of Millie Saul, and one rubbed his hand over the window frame.

To date, the last report was from Harrison Mills, a small hamlet on the Harrison River.

The woman, on hearing a humming noise, looked up to see a big man covered with hair on the edge of the clearing. She was frightened. Taking a backward step, she fell into one of the half-full laundry tubs at which she had been working. When she had extricated herself and looked again, the man had disappeared.

Such, in brief, are the legendary and eyewitness stories regarding the Sasquatch.
THE scientific board connected with the Museum of Vancouver is skeptical regarding the existence of any such remnant of a race that once might have roamed the forested regions.

An objection that the climate is too rigorous for a naked race, no matter how hairy, might be answered by pointing to the Fengians, who live in a much more inhospitable one.

The eyewitness reports have always been reluctantly given. There may be many more. The chief objection among the natives to telling white inquirers is fear of ridicule. This sensitiveness is much stronger among natives than whites.

Here, for the present, the matter must rest. Perhaps further witnesses may be heard in the future. Remembering, however, in judging the possibilities of the existence of the Sasquatch, how many people have seen sea serpents and that remains of strange creatures have been recently washed on various shores. It is quite within the bounds of probability that just as there are unknown forms of life in the boundless depths of the ocean, equally so may there be in the enormous wilderness stretches of British Columbia wild hairy men roaming.
