Malaysians Panic Over 200 Bigfoot Prints

A recent sighting of 200 foot prints is causing a stir in Malaysia. The Malaysian Bigfoot is known as the Orang Lenggor or Lenggor Man. In 2006, Tay Teng Hwa, the Johor Wildlife Protection Society secretary, described the creatures as, "between 10 and 12 feet tall while their children were six to seven footers. Seventy per cent of the Orang Lenggor have a human appearance but the rest resemble apes."

In a local Malaysian paper, The Star Online, an article describes a man discovering a series of footprints and disturbing villagers. Read the article below.

ABOUT 200 Bigfoot-like footprints have been discovered near Kampung Kepis Baru, Kuala Pilah, causing panic among villagers, reported Harian Metro.

Adnan Pungut, 48, claimed he discovered the footprints when he was clearing rubbish and wood at his rubber estate at 3pm on Saturday.

“I immediately informed the others because I was scared. I told the other villagers and all of us went back to the area.

“We found 200 footprints that were about the same size and tried to follow them,” he was quoted as saying.

“Based on the footprints, we can assume that the creature has two legs and weighs more than 100kg,” he said.

According to Adnan, further checks by villagers found that the creature could be headed towards a nearby forest.

The report stated that the villagers decided not to pursue the creature as they were afraid.

“We will let the authorities handle it as the animal could be endangered,” Adnan said.

The above quote from The Truckers Report was somewhat in jest and was a response to a conversation thread started by a trucker who was asking if other truckers have witnessed Bigfoot while driving. In fact, he asks what his chances of shooting a Sasquatch are and asks, "Have any of you seen a skunk ape / rock ape / sasquatch / yeti / bigfoot? What do you think my chances are of bagging one these creatures for the long haul home?"

As you can imagine some of the other responses were also less than serious. Another reply was, "First you have to put in your magical 1 year. Then you'll learn the super secret handshake and take the sacred trucker oath. Then and only then you will receive super secret maps of all the super secret places that only WE know. On page 23 of the aforementioned maps you'll find the exact location of Bigfoot, with descriptions on what to use as bait."

All joking aside, some of the most interesting sightings have been witnessed by truckers. A quick search on John Green's Sasquatch Database reveals over a dozen reports. We count down the top ten below.

10. Tractor-Trailer Trasher | 1976 | Maryland

Sgt. George Brooks said that a truck driver wrecked his tractor-trailer swerving to miss an 8 to 9-foot hairy creature that ran in front of him on the Pulaski Hwy. (Rte 40)

9. The Albany Albino | 1959 | Oregon
Unnamed truck driver was driving over a field mear [sic] Dever-Conser (only Dever is on map) when what appeared to be a huge shaggy white gorilla came running alongside the cab and peered in the window at him. As the truck neared a mint distillery the creature turned and disappeared in nearby woods.

8. Maryland Mudbeast | 1973 | Maryland

Truck driver on Rte 32 just outside Sykesville saw a large object by the road. As he approached it stood up. Appeared to be a 7 to 8-foot ape, caked with mud from the waist down.

7. Human-like Hulk | 1959 | Ohio

Truck driver said only that he saw a "hulking creature" climb from the Ohio River onto the shore, "I can't describe it. I've never seen anything like it before." However later that night across the river in Kentucky there was a description of a "huge man-like thing."

6. The Clothesline Creeper | 1978 | Iowa
All reports in rural West Des Moines, at or near Raccoon River. About 4 a.m. Larry W. heard screams from alfalfa field, dogs upset, went outside and heard woof sound that scared him. Went in and from second floor window saw heavy creature, taller than 6'4" clothesline poles, walk ain front of yard light and down the driveway. Arms swinging head high, walked with fluid grace. Called sheriff, and they found tracks in frost 48" apart. One soft spot at gopher hole showed front part of big human foot. A few days later, according to Russ D., there was a report on the news of a truck driver seeing a similar creature in his headlights on the I-80 near the river.

5. Emergency Stop Sasquatch | 1964 | South Carolina

Doug Sipes, camping out with friends, burst into house saying Bigfoot had scared them. A tall, hairy, manlike creature had appeared at their fire "and ran them off." Next day Sue Johnson saw the camp torn up, stuff scattered and torn, strange footprints in dirt. Footprints not described. Between Estill and Hampton, near the Salkehatchie River. A week later there was a story in the Hampton County Guardian saying that a truck driver had reported an emergency stop to avoid hitting a sasquatch on the road. The creature was said to have either banged on the door or jumped onto the hood.

4. 50 Gallon Gorilla |1950's | California

Harold Westlund, Chico, stated that Joe Ely, fire control officer in Menticino National Forest, had investigated an incident where a logging truck driver arriving at the loading area noticed that a 50 gallon drum had been tossed around. He fled, but large humanlike footprints were later found there.

3. Double Driver Detection | 1976 | Montana

Truck driver radioed on CB to truck behind him saying there was some kind of hairy ape in the bush by the road. Driver behind saw it too, said was about 8 feet tall, very heavy looking, very hairy. Location just "near Helena." No information on time of day.

2. I-97 Eye Contact | 1988 | Oregon

R, 37, a truck driver, and D, 233, truck dispatcher, driving North on Hwy 97, in an 18-wheeler, encountered an 8 ft. biped covered with shaggy, brownish-grey hair, walking south in the northbound lane, on the east side of the road. They had heard about it on CB radio a quarter hour earlier, and saw cars in front of them veer around it, so they slowed to 5 miles an hour as they went by, and D made eye contact. Estimated weight 400 t0 500 pounds. It had unbelievably long arms, a longer, taller head than a human, and turned its whole body, not its neck. It appeared calm but possibly confused.

1. Scratching Sasquatch (Clothes Ripper) | 1970 | Florida
Truck driver reported to sheriff's office that he was sleeping in the cab of his truck north of Brooksville when a hairy creature yanked him out and ripped his clothing. Ramona Hibner confirmed that the incident was reported and that the driver was at Lykes Memorial Hospital and was scratched.

We picked the Florida incident as number one because not only did the truck Driver get his clothes ripped off, but he was hospitalized! On top of all of that there was a second witness who confirmed the incident!

On May 7th Mr. Miraglia uploaded the first act of the Vietnam episode of Finding Bigfoot. This is Season 3 Episode 22 titled. "Vietnam: The Heart of Squatchness" and first aired on March 31, 2013.

A ten minute segment from the episode was submitted for consideration as a 2012/13 Sound Editing Non Fiction Emmy Nominee.

How would Hamlet handle the debate among Bigfoot insiders

The sasquatch phenomenon has defied explanation for thousands of years. A few more are not going to kill us. I am not one of those paranormalists that thumb my nose at game cameras and thermal imagers. I’m quite interested in examining data that has been gathered, quantified, mulled over, (and hopefully not massaged).

Yes, I admire Jeff Meldrum’s work immensely, but that doesn’t stop me from considering paranormal aspects that are often attendant upon sightings, encounters, and run-ins with the “big folk.”

Part of the reason that I am open-minded about the supernatural aspects of High Sasquatchery stems from my own personal experiences that have made me quite uncomfortable--encounters involving limited telepathic exchanges, as well as the witnessing of a verbal language. I also have reason to believe that some sasquatches, some of the time, have the ability to “cloak” themselves from people’s sense of sight, but not our senses of smell or hearing.

About half of my hundred-odd overnighters into the wild have involved friends and loved ones tagging along with me, and, yes, witnessing everything from branch breaking, to knocking, to calls, to stomping, to verbal exchanges between sasquatches, to roaring, to the games sasquatches are want to play, such as stacking eggshells on top of each other in little piles to peak our curiosity the next morning after the raw eggs had been sucked dry.

On more than one occasion, different friends, at different times have independently said they suspected a sasquatch had been standing or walking near them, despite being invisible. On each occasion, I had not mentioned my suspicion that sasquatches are capable of such things. My friends came to this conclusion on their own, based upon experiences such as literally seeing a thick branch on the ground break when nothing was visually there, but something heavy seemed to have walked by.

I try my hardest to respect the opinions of my peers, especially when those opinions differ from my own conjectures about just what in the hell sasquatches even are. One thing that I feel inclined to mention here involves a playful jab at the hardcore “scientists” in our midst.

I personally know a few of the more famous “apers” (those who contend that sasquatches are a heretofore uncatalogued species of primate), and I feel privileged to call them my friends, but I just can’t let one thing go.

Here it is: I won’t name names but more than a few of my “aper” buddies admit to having seen UFO’s and ghosts. Some of them even claim to have seen both!

And yet, when it comes to Pacific Northwest bigfoots, they insist that anything other than a “hard science” explanation involving a reclusive species of (non-technologically gifted) ape would be unprofessional, counterproductive and pointless. In short, many of them flatly deny the possibility that sasquatches could have supernatural abilities, despite the fact that a significant number of sightings involve variables that simply can't be explained with the scientific tools at our disposal: things like vanishings, portals, UFO's, etc.

To me, not only is this reluctance on the part of my scientific friends to include inexplicable variables in many sightings a form of self-denial, but it’s also a great illustration of the way human beings tend to compartmentalize what modern science cannot explain.

In a way, I find this to be unscientific—summarily ignoring evidence that doesn’t fit into a pre-established paradigm. One example might involve tracks that simply disappear in the middle of a field; another a hovering UFO over a visual (or auditory, such as mine) encounter with sasquatch.

Again, I am speaking here about my scientific friends that have experienced life-changing supernatural events in their pasts (such as UFO sightings and ghostly visitations), which bow to peer pressure and discard data they consider to be insignificant and unreliable because it falls outside of the usual scientific paradigm of sasquatches merely being large apes.

The inexplicable (supernatural) data they ignore in their bigfoot research has no direct connection with their earlier supernatural experiences; however, these earlier experiences do provide a sense of context (life outside of the price fixe scientific bubble in which most of us live) that is summarily ignored, and thus discounted. My contention here is that scientific researchers that have personally encountered UFO’s and/or ghosts should be the first ones to examine and evaluate supernatural aspects of bigfoot phenomenon; however, it’s been my experience that this is rarely if ever the case; in fact, such “hard science” adherents, which have experienced supernatural activity in their pasts, seems to GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to avoid the supernatural aspects of the bigfoot phenomenon.

This type of scientific cherry-picking (avoiding anything that seems even remotely supernatural about a sasquatch encounter or evidence gathered from a sasquatch sighting or hot spot) applies double to “hard science” folks that have, at other times in their lives, experimented with the use of psychedelics, which can also provide valuable insights into the real perimeters of existence rather than the price fixe bubble in which most of us tend to live and operate as human beings.

One friend in particular, who considers himself a “hard scientist” in the bigfoot camp, and who is quite well known and respected by people on both sides of the phenomenological fence, told me over a few beers one night that he had been visited by an extra-dimensional entity as a child, and this being reappeared to him several times every six years until he was eighteen years old. The creature was jet black, larger than a normal man, and it had the ability to appear and disappear at will.

Now, you might dismiss such an account as preposterous, but I most certainly do not. I know my friend quite well, I trust his judgment, and I believe he did experience something out of the ordinary. Or course, the fact that the daemonic “thing” appeared in front of a group of his friends on his eighteenth birthday, and that I personally spoke with one of them, also had an impact on my assessment of the phenomenon.

I have also noticed that, occasionally, folks who become interested in sasquatches (whether or not they have personally experienced any sasquatch-related funny business) also claim to have relatives in their families that once upon a time worked in Black Ops, usually involving the Air Force. I can personally name three unrelated people in the field of sasquatch research that fit into this category.

None of them has told me more than that. None of them has gone into any mind-blowing accounts of exotic technologies or encounters with aliens, while all of them have reported that their relative "in the know" kept his or her lips shut tight and didn't talk about what they did on the job, whereas after work, they preferred not to think about it themselves.

It's probably worth mentioning that I don't know anyone else in any other social circle or professional circle who claims to have relatives that once worked in the "black ops" business. I have no connection whatsoever to anything like that. In fact the people I've ever met with such connections are bigfoot researchers. Neither do I have any relatives of my own that claim to have worked in Black Ops.

As for my own experiences, I make no secret of the fact that I have seen UFO's on two occasions and encountered strange UFO-like activity on two other occasions. So even though I don't consider myself a "hard science guy," that's yet another case and point. Two of those experiences occurred when I was with other people, whereas during the other two happened when I was alone. In other words, fifty percent had additional witnesses.

I have also witnessed two large balls of light going up and down behind a treeline near Goat Mountain, Oregon, changing the tops of the trees from red to white. These objects emitted soft effusive light not radiant light (such as that from an airplane or helicopter).

In short, both objects were glowing, spherical, and approximately thirty feet in diameter. I know because I could see them with my naked eyes, as well as examining them through a pair of binoculars. Even as these glowing spheres were rising and falling behind the treeline, from behind me, over the ridge, by Big Spring, a loud sasquatch vocalization was calling in the direction of the lights. For all of the world, the call sounded to me like the Klamath Scream recording, deep and sonorous, almost mechanical, yet with the ability to carry effectively over quite a distance.

Now, does this mean I believe aliens were piloting those "unidentified" craft, which I witnessed? Certainly not. Leaping to such an illogical and unscientific conclusion would be the province of an operant programmer/provocateur such as Stanton Friedman or Whitley Strieber.

Even though I am not trained in the hard sciences, I still recognize the importance of considering "what, when, and where" before "who or why." In fact, I'm a strong proponent of the "trivium," an ancient form of logic that actually predates that of scientific inquiry, but it no less useful in situations such as UFO sightings.

Since we're at it, we might as well add in the paranormalist friends of mine in the field that have also reported seeing UFO's at some point in their lives: three more eyewitnesses for the peanut gallery. And that's not even counting the ones that I have yet to meet.

I should have mentioned at the outset of this article that I've never made a point to go around asking folks about UFO's. In fact, the subject makes me somewhat uncomfortable to broach. So there could be quite a few more people with dual experience sets (sasquatch and UFOs) coming to the meetings at the Western Bigfoot Society and other related events without my knowledge. Plus, there's the fact that I'm not very active in the field these days and rarely attend any meetings.

Are all of these connections between people with UFO experiences who are also vigorously pursuing answers about the sasquatch question a mere coincidence? I think not.

But then again, I couldn’t say for sure either way. For I am a “fence sitter.” Like Hamlet, I chose to withhold my entire judgment on the matter.

Yes, I know what you are saying: Hamlet’s famous “reluctance to act” is what helped to precipitate the demise of his kingdom. How very medieval of him.

When the evaluation of sasquatch phenomena is involved, I might as well go ahead make the case that we need more people like Hamlet, who resist the urge to dismiss things which they and the tools of modern science cannot explain. Lest we forget, Hamlet also saw a ghost with three witnesses, one of whom was a dear friend of his. And not only did he see a ghost, but the otherworldly entity also claimed to be the spirit of his murdered father, and demanded revenge!

In the case of "hard scientists" that believe they have seen ghosts or UFO's, and also harbor a strong desire to figure out the mysteries of sasquatch, it's understandable not to leap to conclusions. After all, their training in the hard sciences conditioned them to resist making such connections.

Such training can also function as a form of conditioning that causes the brainwashed subject to ignore observable evidence that cannot be repeated or categorized. Despite such things, it's worth remembering that many great pioneers in the sciences were able to balance their belief in a supernatural supreme being along with their work constructing experiments, observations and conclusions based upon repeatable, reliable, and observable evidence--in other words, the application of scientific inquiry.

These days, the hard sciences are marked by a trend towards specialization and compartmentalization. Such motion seems retrograde when it comes to making the really big breakthroughs, and perhaps this is no accident. After all, many of the really big discoveries of the pre-industrial eras were made by so-called "amateur" scientists that dabbled in more than one discipline. Back then, the cross-pollenization of ideas helped to stimulate unorthodox associations that led to unexpectedly big discoveries.

Compartmentalizing personal UFO experiences from sasquatch research is nothing short of tragic, especially when key evidence and experiential data very much point towards a relationship between the two.

And for those researchers that don't have the advantage of such personal experiences, dismissing and discarding accounts of paranormal experiences and evidence involving sasquatches is just as "unscientific" as proselytizing others about one's spiritual veneration of New Age sylphs, satyrs & hirsute giants.

In a Q13Fox article titled, "Website claims Bigfoot is a Washingtonian," Mariana Hicks reports how a Real Estate blog names Washington as No. 1 “Best State for Bigfoot to Live in"

SEATTLE – Washington was named the No. 1 “Best State for Bigfoot to Live in,” according to Estately.com, with more than 500 reported sightings of the mythical beast.

Estately reported Washington’s heavily forested area gives the big guy lots of places to roam. The state has the fifth most designated wilderness acreage in the country.

Whether or not you believe in Bifgoot, Washingtonians love the monstrous mammal — Skamania County even a law forbidding hunting Bigfoot, there’s a music festival named for him and even a publishing company.

Unfortunately, there is a downside for Bigfoot hiding out in the Evergreen State. There have been two dozen reports of people shooting him but Olympia Beer wants him alive and is offering a $1 million reward for his safe capture.

Estately drew its conclusion based on findings that included wilderness and forest cover, protective laws, likelihood of road kill, Bigfoot enthusiasm and number of sightings.

Trailing Washington, California took second place as a potential home for Bigfoot. Estately took points away for high population density, bounties, laws allowing people to hunt Bigfoot and the number of claims from people who said they had shot him.

Whether you believe in Bigfoot or not, the furry biped has been spotted in every U.S. state except Hawaii. Rather than debate if it’s a massive hoax or the most incredible game of hide-and-seek ever, we asked, “What are the best U.S. states for Sasquatch to live?”

Points were given for wilderness area and forest cover, protective laws, likelihood of deer roadkill (a favorite food), Bigfoot enthusiasm by locals, and frequency of sightings. Points were taken away for high population density, local bounties, laws allowing hunting of Bigfoot, and the number of reports of locals claiming to have shot one. In the end, Estately determined these 11 states provided the best habitat for Bigfoot to hide out and make occasional appearances in grainy photos and videos.

1. Washington State

According to the Bigfoot Field Reseachers Organization (BFRO), the Evergreen State has far and away the most “credible sightings” of any other state with 537. It really is the best state for Bigfoot to see and be seen. Heavily forested and with the fifth most designated wilderness acreage in the country, Washington State provides exceptional habitat and a Bigfoot-positive culture. The only downside is it also has the most reported Bigfoot shootings with 24, and locally-produced Olympia Beer is offering a $1 million reward for the safe capture of Bigfoot. Despite the threat of murder and kidnapping, Washington is the only state with a law on the books forbidding the hunting of Bigfoot (in Skamania County), and the state is home to the Sasquatch Music Festival, independent publisher Sasquatch Books, and it was the location for the classic Bigfoot film Harry and the Hendersons. It even used the Sasquatch as the mascot for its now vanished NBA team—the Seattle SuperSonics.

2. California

With over 428 sightings, California has the second highest number in the United States. The state has over 15 million acres of designated wilderness, as well as Bigfoot museums in Felton and Willow Creek. There are numerous organized groups searching high and low for them, including North America Bigfoot Search and Southern California Amateur Bigfooters (SCAB). The species is honored in the names of dozens of California businesses, including The Bigfoot Lodge in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Truth be told, California gets the #2 slot because when Bigfoot finally comes out of the woods to reveal its existence, it’s going to want to hire an agent, purchase some laser hair removal, and take its talents to Hollywood.

3. Oregon

Oregon is the unfortunate home to the world’s only Bigfoot trap in the Siskiyou National Forest, but the state still exhibits the many features this hairy being craves. There is plenty of fog and dark forests to hide in, plus there’s over 2 million acres of wilderness and a hippie vibe that’s tolerant of infrequent bathing. The Sasquatch Brewing Company honors the beast with its Hairy Knuckles Stout, and there’s even a festival called the Sasquatch Brew Fest. Also, Bigfoot traditionally takes his water unflouridated [sic], just like Portland, Oregon does.

4. Ohio

Being a bashful Bigfoot makes dating hard, especially for any Bigfoot longing to meet eligible humans. Luckily, Ohio’s residents take an unusually enthusiastic interest in the legend of Sasquatch, who’s been spotted in Ohio 234 times—more than all but three other states. The state hosts the annual Ohio Bigfoot Festival and the Ohio Bigfoot Conference, and there are numerous groups of squatch hunters in the state.

5. Texas

Everything’s bigger in Texas so Bigfoot should feel right at home in the Lone Star State. Still, the hairy one should be on the lookout for hunters because it’s completely legal to plug a Sasquatch in Texas, provided it’s on private property and with permission of the owner. Also, Texas is home to the dreaded Chupacabra so it’s possible they battle over territory.

While local Bigfoot enthusiasts gather for the Texas Bigfoot Conference, Sasquatch can wander the Sam Houston National Forest and feast on the exotic wildlife stocked at neighboring hunting ranches. It’s nice to add some antelope and ibex to the standard diet of deer and berries.

6. Idaho

With a small human population, plenty of wilderness, and millions of acres of rugged forest, Idaho is the kind of place even Bigfoot could get lost in. The only downside is the state is crawling with skilled hunters who have a keen eye for wildlife. Also, there’s an Idaho State University professor cooking up a plan to utilize drones with thermal imaging equipment to spot Sasquatch from the sky. Hard to find privacy.

7. Tennessee

Tennessee gets the nod over neighboring Kentucky because Bigfoot is still angry over Daniel Boone’s claim that he shot the first Sasquatch in the Bluegrass State. Also, nearly 58% of Tennessee is forested, and there are over 9,000 cozy caves to live in, the most in the country. As a special treat, Tennessee is home to 15 varieties of turtles, a healthy Bigfoot snack that’s both crunchy on the outside and chewy in the middle.

8. Michigan

According to BFRO, Michigan has 173 sightings—8th most in the nation. There are various local groups who study the elusive bipeds, including the Michigan Bigfoot Information Center and Michigan Bigfoot. Most importantly, Michigan is a culinary wonderland for ol’ Bigfoot thanks to extensive apple orchards and the fifth highest frequency of roadkill deer. Plus, with nearly 13,000 state parks there are excellent opportunities to steal picnic baskets from campers. Many Bigfoot sightings include witnessing the creature stealing apples, snatching deer carcasses off the road, and raiding campsites. As if that’s not enough food, there’s a local woman who claims to feed blueberry bagels to the numerous Bigfoot who live in the woods behind her house.

9. Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania tends to shoot first and ask questions later when they come in contact with a Bigfoot, but perhaps that’s because the fuzzy rascal is allegedly prone to vandalizing RVs? All the same, the Keystone State is 66% forested habitat, with Bigfoot sightings frequently occurring in the Michaux State Forest. The state also has an enthusiastic fan club in the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society. Pennsylvania is also home to the Houdini Museum, and surely Bigfoot is an admirer of the late performer’s skill in escaping.

10. North Carolina

While the rest of the country bad mouths Bigfoot’s horrible stench (like a skunk + rotten cabbage), North Carolina’s hill people speak lovingly of its “beautiful hair.”Besides this welcome praise, the rugged terrain of the Great Smokies and Blue Ridge Mountains provide ideal habitat, and the warmer climate provides ideal weather for mating season, apparently March through April. Many in North Carolina, such as Carolina Bigfoot Field Research, are working diligently to protect these allegedly non-existent creatures.

11. West Virginia

West Virginia is the #1 state for roadkill deer, providing a virtual roadside buffet for the hungry Bigfoot. And to wash it down, moonshiner shacks still dot the hills so Sasquatch can sneak a little swig now and then. In addition, 81% of the mountainous state is forested, it’s sparsely populated, and there are plenty of caves—ideal for a reclusive Bigfoot. However, the West Virginia Bigfoot Research Organization is fast on their over-sized heels, frequently searching the region for the elusive Sasquatch.

The Falcon Project proposes to conduct an extensive aerial search for an unrecognized North American primate, a.k.a. sasquatch or Bigfoot, by means of an helium-filled airship, upon which a platform supporting thermal-imaging and high resolution wireless videography equipment is mounted. The Aurora Mk II airship offers major advantages over similar applications with helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft platforms, foremost, stealth and maneuverability.

The former permits approach and observation with minimal or no disturbance of the subject’s natural behavior. The latter is critical for surveying in areas of dense stands of forest where a sustained vertical perspective is essential for locating animals on the forest floor.

The research is to be coordinated through Idaho State University, with Dr. Jeff Meldrum, professor of anatomy & anthropology, acting as principal investigator. Meldrum has been probing the question of sasquatch’s existence for nearly 17 years, ever since examining a line of inexplicable 15-inch bipedal footprints in southeastern Washington. New 55 Million Yr Old Fossil Signals First Primate with Human Like Heal

Bloomberg BusinessNews reports that skeletal remains 3 inches in diameter had been unearthed in 2003 by a farmer who’d been prospecting for relics in an abandoned paleontological site, in central China’s Hubei province. The Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology in Beijing have been analyzing the petrified remains for 10 years. It findings were publicized in a paper issued just days ago.

A local husband and wife [Dan Gebo and Marian Dagosto] team of anthropologists have co-authored research regarding the discovery of a tiny monkey fossil that is one of the most complete and oldest fossils ever found.

The Archicebus has a unusual blend of anatomical features never before seen in the same combination, and is radically different from any other living or fossilized primate, researchers said. SRC: CBS Chicago

Chinese paleontologist Ni Xijun and his colleagues publish a study on the 55-million-year-old primate fossil in the prestigious journal Nature on Thursday.

The discovery provides insight into the earliest phases of primate evolution, according to a news release from Nature.

The ancient primate's name, Archicebus achilles, makes a reference to the animal's anthropoidlike heel bone.

"Previous fossil evidence shows anthropoids diverged from other primates around 45 million years ago, but our analysis of the new fossil brings the time forward by 10 million years," Ni of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology said at a news conference. "It means the evolutionary history of human lineage could be much longer than we thought."

The Archicebus achilles fossil, a nearly complete skeleton, was discovered near Jingzhou in Hubei province about 10 years ago. Since then the fossil has been studied by Ni's team, which used morphological comparison and phylogenetic analysis to search ancient relations to apes, humans and other primates.

"Morphological features are not like DNA evidence, which can be sequenced and compared in a short time," Ni explained. "It takes a great effort for scientists to study the most detailed morphological feature of a skeleton and carefully compare it with a variety of animals."

To reveal more secrets hidden in the rock for millions of years, his team used sophisticated synchrotron CT scanning at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility to digitally separate the fossil from the rock burying it.

After 10 years of detailed research, Ni and his colleagues studied 1,186 morphological features and compared 157 extinct and living mammals.

"Archicebus achilles is neither a monkey nor an ape. It's such an odd creature that it is virtually a mixture of monkeys, apes and tarsiers," he said.

Monkeys, apes and humans are collectively known as anthropoids in science, while tarsiers belong to a group called tarsiiforms. The two groups have separate evolutionary lineages.

Archicebus achilles has small eyes, short heels and a foot in the general form of monkeys, but it also has many limbs and tooth features typical for tarsierlike primates.

"When the anthropoid lineage began to separate from other primates 55 million years ago, they were actually not so different from Archicebus achilles," Ni said. "But the difference becomes larger as the anthropoids go along one branch, while the descendants of Archicebus achilles go along another.

Stan Gordon and 911 Bigfoot Caller Stick to Opposing Stories

On May 14 Bigfoot Evidence reported of a possible Bigfoot shooting reported over a 911 call:

This is unconfirmed at the moment and we're still trying to figure out what exactly transpired here. According to our source, PBS [Penssylvania Bigfoot Society] is looking into a possible shooting of Bigfoot somewhere in Pennsylvania. "It has been all over the police scanner in the area," our source tells us, but he will not confirm the exact location. SRC: Bigfoot Evidence

Eventually the story unfolded into: An officer responded to the 911 call and found John T. Winesickle, who told him he'd found Bigfoot tracks when out for a walk. The officer accompanied Mr. Winesickle to the tracks, and took pictures of them.

The 911 call was a request to have an officer confirm the tracks and thus confirm Bigfoot. Mr. Winesickles story and Stan Gordon's conclusion are paired in a local Pennsylvania Paper, Daily American, below.

PAINT TOWNSHIP — John T. Winesickle is still convinced there's a Sasquatch in his neck of the woods.

Summarily dismissed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission, Paint Township police and Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society, Winesickle said he remains certain that there are at least two — plural — Bigfoot roaming the state game lands near his home.

"He's a giant," the Paint Township man said of the male. Though he's never seen the creatures, Winesickle claims to have heard the Mr. make bassy, guttural sounds.

The Mrs., he said, can be heard "cooing" at times: "I think she's pregnant."

Adamant that his findings are sincere and legitimate, the Paint Township resident doesn't present himself a charlatan. He isn't writing any books and has declined offers to buy his original photographs, which depict large, ambiguous footprints in the mud.

Authorities, however, have said the tracks most likely belong to the big black bear commonly known to roam in this area.

Winesickle grabbed international headlines earlier this month after calling the game commission May 14 to report Bigfoot evidence. He was referred to police, and the overheard 911 dispatch fueled several rumors, including the tale that a turkey hunter had shot and killed an alleged Sasquatch near the city of Altoona in Blair County.

The story as told by Winesickle, however, is that these large tracks have been spotted throughout the forested area he has frequented since moving from Bedford County to Paint Township nearly two years ago. The retired septuagenarian said he walks through the woods for hours every day to stay healthy, as he has heart problems and recently suffered a stroke.

He unflinchingly defends his findings as evidence: a true believer.
"(The game commission) doesn't want anything to do with this," he said.

Winesickle's 911 call was not the first time Bigfoot reports were made in Somerset County. According to pabigfootsociety.com archives, another Paint Township incident supposedly occurred in 1980.

The website states that two young men were in the woods less than a mile from Seanor Road when they saw a large dark-colored figure emerge from the opposite tree line 300 yards away. They reported that it had a "fast gate (sic) and . . . long arms which hung below it's (sic) knees." It was allegedly 7-8 feet tall and covered in fur.

A more recent report was made April 18, 2010, near Stoughton Lake in Jennerstown. The website states that two teenage boys were searching for turkeys when a 7- or 8-foot-tall bear-like creature walked by. They allegedly shot at it twice with a .12-gauge shotgun and fled.
According to the Bigfoot society, the teenagers said that the creature had dark reddish-brown hair and that they thought it was probably a bear.

Longtime UFO and paranormal investigator Stan Gordon of Kecksburg said Winesickle's recent Paint Township report is overblown and insubstantial.

"There have been some very legitimate reports," Gordon said. "But this particular case, we're pretty certain, is solved." SRC: Daily American

This is a report that was published in Ray Crowe's Track Record in 2001. Bobo may have at one time gone by Jay instead of James, I don't know, he has always been Bobo to me. I think the age is incorrectly reported as well. Regardless of those minute details, this is a great report full of blood curdling details. I also like that it was investigated by Joe Beelart (read more about Joe Beelart) and reported over the phone to Ray Crowe.

Humboldt County, California

2001

Jay “Bobo” Fay had a series of incidents in northern California in late May, 2001. The sighting was referred to Joe Beelart for investigation. The site, east of Arcata, California, near the Klamath River and in the Bald Hills near Weitchpec, and east of Orick to north near Schoolhouse Peak. The following abstracted from telephone notes of Joe Beelart. On May 21st, Jay (nickname Bobo), went to the mountains near the Klamath River, 15-18 miles NE of Orick on the north side of Bald Mtn., three to five miles north on Johnson Road. and when alone at night, he was aggressively confronted by two and possible three vocalizing, limb breaking, sasquatches. He heard knocking of wood-on-wood on the Bald Hill road. Twice, there were two sharp blows, about 100 yards away in the treeline. Canine howling after 9pm from several miles to the NW...coyote, dog, wolf. As they came closer howls became a man-wail. They were answered from his immediate left at 9:30PM. There was brush moving, loud snaps of sticks breaking, and motion to his side.

At 150 yards in the tree line there was a vocalization of, “AHHH,” like huge exhalings and lips flapping like a horse sound. The two howls merged, maybe a third was there also. Never saw anything.

The closest they came to the vehicles was 50 yards. A pit bull in the truck made no noise and had tail between legs. On May 22nd. Bobo went to area again, alone. Another display of vocal aggression, but not as close as the previous night. May 27th.

Bobo at site with John Freitas and Eric Holland. Bigfoot calls were broadcast. A large Bigfoot approached within 20 feet of the vehicle, within 10-15 min of starting broadcast. No photos were taken by veteran researchers. (Unbelievable!)

(Allegedly) A huge 9 foot creature (gauged by stump height) bluff charged John’s car at 11:15pm. A Starlight viewer of Russian Ukrainian model, Gen. II night scope used for viewing. It was snorting, a nasal noise, bobbing up and down, for 10-20 seconds. It was big and block shaped. Would raise arm over head, like a big monkey. There was no neck, a giant black blob, moving through tree line. When running there was a huge boom-boom sound, but padding could also be heard.

A large thump was heard as if something was thrown. No tracks were found. At one time it tried to stand behind a small tree, but stuck out 1 1/2 feet on each side, but still tried to “peek” out. It bobbed its head continuously. Ray Crowe met “Bobo” at the opening of the Bigfoot extension museum in Willow Creek (he had some reports).

Yakima Man Claims He's the Real Bigfoot
on PAX Television Channel 'Lie Detector' Aired May 17, 2005 8:00 PM ET/PT

Bob Heironimus, a 64-year-old retired man from Yakima, Washington, claims the famous 1967 Roger Patterson film of the legendary "Bigfoot" was all a hoax, on PAX TV's "Lie Detector," airing Tuesday, May 17, 8:00-9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Heironimus submitted to a lie detector test administered by leading polygraph expert Dr. Ed Gelb to try to prove that he was the infamous creature shot on film in Bluff Creek, California, wearing just a modified gorilla costume, which does not match the figure in the Patterson film. Not even close.

Hosted by Rolonda Watts, "Lie Detector" is a provocative series that examines the truth behind real-life stories ripped from the headlines, using the most powerful instrument to detect deception - the polygraph.

Heironimus took the polygraph on live television and passed the test according to Dr. Ed Gelb, proving once and for all that along with passed polygraphs by serial killers like Ted Bundy, Heironimus believes he was the man in the suit to the degree that he too was able to pass the polygraph.
Is it any wonder the polygraph is not admissible evidence in a court of law?

It is note worthy to mention that Heironimus is unable to produce the alleged costume with breasts he allegedly wore 38 years ago and he was unable to satisfactorly say why he waited all these years to make such an admission.

Additionally, Heironimus footprints do not match those left by the creature in the Patterson Film and he is unable to duplicate the locomotion of the creature filmed by Roger Patteron in October of 1967. The fundamental nature of Heironimus' statement is phoney. He lied and passed the polygraph anyway, just as serial killer Ted Bundy did all the way down death row to the electric chair.

These pictures are from Bill's Discovery Day V presentation, as he discussed in great detail his recent work, made possible by a Grant arranged by Dr. Meldrum, in recreating the anatomy of "Patty" using live models for in depth comparisons between her movement and various natural versions of the human form, both male and female, in costume and sans clothing. He also made several chest panels using various synthetic materials available in 1967, in order to try and recreate a costume which would duplicate the appearance of Patty and her movement. The third branch of this project was the recreation of the "costume" described by Bob Heironimus in his claim that he was hired by Roger Patterson to be the object of Roger's film. Not only has Bob been unable to describe the actual location that the film was made, let alone how to get there, but the research of Mr. Munns has now proven once and for all that the "costume" as described by Heironimus is structurally, anatomically, and logistically incapable of portraying what is in the famous 1967 Film.

ALBUQUREQUE (KRQE) - The Valles Caldera is an enormous volcanic crater in the Jemez Mountains in northern New Mexico, known for its elk herds.
Now the area is getting attention for what else may be living there.

According to some field researchers, the area has perfect living conditions for Bigfoot.

They even provide proof, a video that brought investigators from the Finding Bigfoot TV series , that airs on Animal Planet, to New Mexico.
On an episode of Finding Bigfoot, the team from the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization heads to the Jemez Mountains in northern New Mexico.

The BFRO came to New Mexico late last year after a thermal video was taken in 2011 by another man on an expedition to find Bigfoot.

Now, the team is trying to figure out the size of the image to make sure it's not just another camper by comparing it to a picture of Bobo, one of their researchers, who is standing in the same place.

It is not just the video that has the team convinced Bigfoot lives in northern New Mexico.

In 2008 a KRQE News 13 reporter followed another Bigfoot hunter, Tom Biscardi, who's been on the creature's trail for 40 years.

He has been looking for signs of the hairy beast all across the four corners area where there have been dozens of Bigfoot sightings since 1998.
Biscardi pointed out to us then what he thought were Bigfoot’s footprints near Farmington.
“I saw a tall, dark, broad figure, and it just walked right up against the truck," a New Mexico resident said, "I want to get out of here now."

The BFRO heard more stories from New Mexicans during a town hall meeting they held in Jemez Springs during their visit.
”I woke up in the middle of the night, went to get out of the bed. My window faces this way, and there was something in my window. It didn't have a neck at all,” another resident said.

Despite this evidence, Ben Radford, managing editor of Skeptical Inquirer Magazine, told KRQE News 13 in 2008 there is still a huge hole in the Bigfoot theory.

”If the creatures are out there they have to die somewhere why hasn't anyone found them?” Radford said.

Fossils Show When Sasquatch Ancestors and Monkeys Diverged

"These discoveries are important because they offer the earliest fossil evidence for either of these primate groups," --Nancy Stevens, an anthropologist at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

So more specifically, the fossils suggest the time when apes diverged from monkeys, or as I like to translate it, "when Sasquatch ancestors diverged from monkeys". Skeptics will prefer that I am not so definitive about the existence of Bigfoots and some bigfooters would prefer I not diminish Bigfoots' intelligence and culture by associating them to apes. In order to to dissuade both camps from criticism I'm just gonna say that a blog about Bigfoot is obviously hopeful that Bigfoot will be a recognized species and to non-apers, apes is a designation of biology, not a comment on culture or intelligence.

Now we can get to the cool part and why this article is interesting. There was a gap in the fossil record and we really didn't know when monkeys and apes diverged. DNA research suggested it was about 25 million years ago, but we had no physical evidence that supported that. So this is a twofer; 1) we get solid physical evidence and 2) it supports what DNA had suggested.

Due to the confirmation of what DNA can tell us, This finding makes us more anxious for what is store with Bryan Sykes Bigfoot DNA study and Future Bigfoot DNA studies in general.

The fossil remnants of these two primate species date back to 25 million years ago, filling a gap in the fossil record that reveals when apes and monkeys first diverged.

"These discoveries are important because they offer the earliest fossil evidence for either of these primate groups," said lead study author Nancy Stevens, an anthropologist at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

DNA evidence has long suggested that apes and Old World monkeys diverged from a common ancestor between 25 million and 30 million years ago. But until now, no fossils older than 20 million years had been found.

The age of the new specimens extends the origin of apes and Old World monkeys into the Oligocene Epoch, which lasted from 34 million to 23 million years ago. Previously, only three primate species were known from the late Oligocene globally, Stevens said.

"These finds can help us to further refine hypotheses about the timing of diversification of major primate groups," Stevens said.

Scientific American: Dear Animal Planet, Learn The Difference Between Real and Fake Monsters

Don't call them River Monsters! They have feelings!

I love good skeptics, I hate lazy ones. When I say this I always cite my favorites. Sharon Hill of Doubtful News and a Huffington Post contributor and Brian Dunning of Skeptoid. Most others reach for the low hanging fruit or are just contrarians. These last two category of skeptics, the fruit-pickers and the contrarians, are unimpressive. Yes, this assumes I am worthy of being impressed, and truth be known, I can't think of a better person I would like to spend time impressing than myself.

back to lazy skeptics, more specifically Kyle Hill (pictured left), a science writer who specializes in finding the secret science in your favorite fandom. Hill has also contributed to Wired, Nature Education, Popular Science, and io9. At least that what is says on his bio for Scientific American. Today he wrote an open letter to Animal Planet asking them not to blur the lines between real and fake using shows like River Monsters, Finding Bigfoot, and Mermaids: The New Evidence as an examples that create an uphill battle for serious science educators. Boo hoo. Science is a method, teach the method and let people educate themselves.

The gist of his argument is real fish should not be called "monsters" and mythical creatures should not be considered real. We agree, leprechauns and unicorns should not be considered real--oh wait, he's putting Bigfoot/Sasquatch into this mythical category. Read for yourself below as he tries to protect the reputation of fish and uses the same knee-jerk arguments against the Bigfoot evidence.

I don’t want to see a legion of fisherman descend on the Congo or Amazon rivers to wipe out tiger fish, or any other animal, out of misplaced fear. Each time River Monsters decides to characterize a fish as a “flesh ripping chainsaw mauling atomic assassin,” the possibility grows. Don’t turn magnificent creatures into mythological horrors.

And don’t turn mythological horrors into real creatures.

I’m afraid I can’t speak highly of your track record when it comes to presenting evidence-based programming, considering that Finding Bigfoot never finds, and won’t ever find, Bigfoot. But never has it been worse than with Mermaids: The Body Found and the upcoming Mermaids: The New Evidence.

Cryptozoology persists precisely because there is no evidence for these creatures. If we actually found Bigfoot or mermaids, they would be studied, cataloged, and brought into the wide swath of biological knowledge. Bigfoot does not exist because there would be evidence left behind—hair, feces, bones, kills, offspring, a carcass—if it did. Considering how many expeditions have attempted to find this evidence and have come up short, in spite of the Bigfoot hunters who claim these creatures number in the thousands, we can effectively rule Bigfoot out. Admittedly, it’s hard to criticize the search for mermaids in the same way. We only recently captured the fabled giant squid on camera. But the difference between these sea monsters is that the squid, prowling the depths off Japan, leaves evidence behind (beaks, tentacles, whole carcasses).

Funny how footprints and casts never make the list of missing evidence. And there have been potential hair and feces samples that are currently being investigated by Bryan Sykes of the University of Oxford. I also think it is crazy that people assume a population of thousands should be easy to find. We have downed airplanes that we can't find in the wilderness, and those had trajectories to give us clues!

Finally, these are TV shows not documentaries. Anybody who's research stops at a TV show bracketed by commercials and ads is not someone you should care to persuade anyway. Let Animal Planet entertain, because I think people are smarter than Kyle Hill gives them credit for.

Canadian bus driver and 6 passengers claim they saw Bigfoot.

"The hoax would be more important than a real Sasquatch sighting...it would teach us a lesson to smarten up." -- Rene Dahinden on the possibility the Canadian sighting was a hoax

The hoaxers eventually did fess up, but as Rene has said this is an important hoax to dissect. So that's what we are going to do. But first let's start with the sighting.

As the story goes a Canadian bus driver named Pat Lindquist, who also happened to be a reserve Vancouver city police officer, was westbound a mile east of Lake Erroch on the Harrison Hot Springs-to-Vancouver run when he saw a 7 foot tall creature with black fur and a light colored face. It was estimated to be 300 pounds, but weight estimates usually just indicate it was heavier than the average human--very hard to guess visually.

This was an interesting encounter, because not only was the creature witnessed by the bus driver, but all six passengers saw it too, some waking up to see the creature! It gets better, the driver stops the bus and gives chase. He actually gets out of the bus and catches up with the creature. In the Oklahoma City Times he describes the confrontation:

"The first thing I noticed was the smell...a horrible smell like very rotten meat. The bush was thick and I was pushing the branches apart when I saw it about 20 or 25 feet away. I just couldn't believe it."

"At first I was mad. But then I went to awe and then to fright and I began to shake. I couldn't stop shaking and then I got out of there." The smell has been a common element in the reports from numerous people who claim to have been close to the Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot.

Lindquist, who is 6-foot-2, said the thing before him was no more than seven feet tall, only "much heavier than I am." "It had flat, flared nostrils like a monkey and large, wide eyes. It didn't make any sound except heavy breathing. It had a

broad chest and it was heavy up and down."

"It could have taken two steps and grabbed me, but it didn't do anything. It didn't growl. It didn't show its teeth. It just looked at me." Lindquist said the hair on its face was a light brown and "it appeared to have the mange; the skin underneath looked kind of white."

Ten days later the perpetrators admitted on radio that it was a hoax. Now, for those of you that think that we shouldn't dissect this hoax and give hoaxers any tips. I don't think there should be a concern. Either there is evidence or there isn't, otherwise it is just a story.

This hoax was composed of a team of four individuals and took weeks to prepare for, in fact they started by selecting a bus line and planted a passenger that would alert everybody else on the bus.

The gorilla suit was bought for $200 dollars and was worn by a guy who was 5-foot-11 and 165-pounds. A far cry from the 7-foot 300-pound creature described.

This story even had footprints made from a resin cast they created based on one seen in the book Sasquatch/Bigfoot: The Search for North America's Incredible Creature by Don Hunter and Rene Dahinden.

MISSION, British Columbia (AP) - A furry creature about seven feet tall lumbered across Highway 7 near this Fraser Valley community Sunday and made some believers in the legendary Sasquatch.

The sighting, 35 miles east of Vancouver, occurred as a Pacific Stage Lines bus driven by Pat Lindquist was westbound a mile east of Lake Erroch on the Harrison Hot Springs-to-Vancouver run.

I remember when video games were the size of refrigerators and you were lucky if a character was made up of more than 20 pixels. The graphics had to be used so frugally and characters so small, video game developers called them sprites. Heck when I was a kid you could recreate video game characters out of skittles and still have enough left over to taste the rainbow.

Now handheld video games have all the power to render 3D polygons with skin, texture, shading and lighting effects. If you can't tell if I'm being nostalgic or impressed by the power of technology then I have struck the right tone. In the video below is the newest game that contains an entire 3D universe, or at least a 3D campground in your pocket.

The video below is adorable, sweet and just makes you feel good. Spend a few minutes and dream that you too can be secret friends with a Bigfoot.

Today in Bigfoot History | May 14th 1976 | Six Chinese Officials Surround a Yeren

There are basically two similar accounts for the story. We have pieced them together to create a continuous narrative. After the story check out some awesome concept art from the new Yeren Movie filmed last year in China.

On the evening of May 14th in 1976 six local Chinese government bureaucrats drove down a rural highway in the Hubei province. As they passed Chunshuy, a village between Fangxian county and Shennongjia, they came across a creature illuminated by the car headlights. The creature was described as being tailless with red fur and recognized immediately as the Chines Wildman a/k/a Yeren.

The Yeren made an attempt to flee, climbing a nearby embankment and escaping into the darkness. The climb was unsuccessful and the creature fell back into the glare of the headlights, crouching on all fours.

Startled, a passenger threw a rock at the creature from behind and the creature ran off, this time successfully escaping from sight.

This initiated a great degree of public interest, people writing in to report other sightings and groups of scientists and the army mounting expeditions into the forest. A massive expedition by the Chinese Academy of Sciences included a team of over a hundred members of scientists, photographers and soldiers. The team was equipped with rifles, tranquilizer dart guns, tape recorders and hunting dogs, worked in the area during 1976 and 1977, interviewing hundreds of people. Together with army scouts and commune members, the team organized several large searches, but (as is usual with such expeditions) they found nothing definite. At one point the expedition search party moved near to one of the creatures; unfortunately 'before the beast could be captured an anxious soldier accidentally shot himself in the leg. The shot brought expedition members scurrying in from all directions and presumably frightened the creature away.

Today in Bigfoot History | May 13th 1967 | Roger Patterson Rents a Camera

The 16mm Cine-Kodak K-100 was the camera rented by Roger Patterson
and used to film the most iconic footage of Bigfoot.

On May 13th in 1967 Roger Patterson rented a 16mm Cine-Kodak K-100 camera from the Yakima Camera Shop. Although the rental was intended for only two days, we know Roger Patterson had it until at least October 20th of the same year. This was the date of the famous Patterson/Gimlin film when both Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin filmed what appears to be a female Sasquatch walking in the Bluff Creek area.

Our favorite part about Bigfoot research, is the ability to geek out on ancillary research that contributes to our larger set of Sasquatch knowledge. In this instance, the Cine-Kodak K-100 provides a lot of opportunity to disect the P/G film. Even better there is a man who has done the research for us; Bill Munns.

Bill Munns has probably done the most research on the type of camera and settings used to captured the P/G film. In the self-titled Munns Report he describes he showcases how important the camera detail is in reconstructing the P/G film site.

"In the process of that attempt to build the digital model, I have discovered something about the film which has been mistakenly assumed by one and all for the last 41 years, and it does impact significantly on any analysis of the film. All assumption has been that the lens on Roger Patterson's camera was a 25mm lens, the standard issue lens for the Kodak K-100 camera. My analysis indicates that the camera has a 15mm lens on it instead (presumption being a Kodak Cine Ektar 15mm lens with S mount to C mount adapter, as per the Kodak camera user's guide,because the camera requires a companion viewfinder lens of same focal length, which Kodak only supplied for it's Cine Ektar lenses." "...I immersed myself in the analysis of the film, I felt that building a digital model of the film site may help clear up some issues, and having 12 years now working with 3D visualization software, I felt I had a good background to attempt this. But in trying to build the digital model, I began to see discrepancies with the general report that the Patterson film was taken with a Kodak K-100 single lens camera with the standard 25mm Ektar lens on it. My analysis indicated a wider angle lens was necessary to replicate the filming, and the only wider angle lens made by Kodak (and having the appropriate viewfinder companion lens) was the 15mm Ektar. So I tested building the digital site model using the 15mm lens specification, and it assembled quite splendidly, and very accurately, in terms of locating seven distinct camera positions and matching them in the digital model so the digital model renderings overlay the actual film frames exceptionally well."

Bill Munns is Planning a Full-Length Feature Documentary on the
Patterson/Gimlin Film

Bill Munns is a Hollywood creature designer, 3D computer graphics professional, and arguably the foremost expert on the Patterson/Gimlin film. Bill Munns is campaigning for funds and planning the production of a feature length documentary touting, "the remarkable truth of the Patterson/Gimlin Film, and the Bigfoot/Sasquatch phenomenon."

According to Bill Munn's video on IndiGoGo (see below), his goal is to produce something worthy of submitting to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), a/k/a the Oscars. He believes this level of visibility will encourage mainstream media to take notice and raise the bar for intelligent discussion.

At IndieGogo, the crowdsourcing website Bill Munns has chosen, Bill Munns describes the documentary:

The documentary, by it’s vary title, seems to be focused simply on the PGF event, but it will equally give abundant attention to the many other respectful research efforts ongoing today. But an excellent documentary feature tells a story the audience can relate to, and the concept I have chosen is to first take the one most powerful event in Bigfoot/Sasquatch lore and show why, beyond any doubt, it is a real event, and then, with that established, expand the story to the current research efforts, their accomplishments and their challenges as they continue. So the PGF, the event where Roger Patterson met and filmed the entity we call Patty, that is the title centerpiece of this story, and effectively sets up the discussions of current research. So please do not think this project neglects the many fine research endeavors currently ongoing. The PGF focus in the title is simply what in great narrative program structure is referred to as “the hook”, that element which catches the public and mainstream media’s attention and holds on, so they will continue to watch and learn about all the other fine research projects today.

I’ve already got 5 years of concentrated effort in the PGF analysis, some wonderful scientific research that was funded by the Cestone Foundation through the greatly appreciated assistance of Prof. Jef Meldrum, and I’ve got about 15 hours of HD video already accumulated as potential footage for the documentary. So I’m well positioned to reach the goal. But producing a feature documentary that is eligible for Academy Award consideration and festival submission is a major undertaking, and needs some financial support. So that’s what I’m asking for now.

Munns also describes a the documentary approach and a possible second episodic format for perhaps television.

The Documentary Concept

A great documentary tells a story in a focused and concise way, The documentary program concept recognizes that the PGF is the most familiar event in the mind of the general public and media, so the program leads with a definitive summation of why the PGF is real. Then the program branches out to examine the many new technique and new technologies being applied to this elusive entity we call Bigfoot or Sasquatch. I have commitments for interviews with Jeff Meldrum, Brian Brown and the TBRC/TWARC field studies, Bart Cutino and his thermal studies, and The Olympic Project’s remarkably diligent field studies.

Second, the production concept is that researchers, not TV program executives, should control the editing and content decisions. TV Program executives have lost sight of reality and responsible science and can’t resist program eye candy and sensationalism, out of context, over science in context. The story of this remarkably mysterious entity must be told with sincere respect for the real science, the real research, and the real challenges of bringing this entity into a position of biological science recognition. The content decisions and the final edit must be in the hands of researchers. This program will be.

Program Versions

One of the unique aspects of this project is that it recognizes that studies of this topic need different levels of detail and varying presentation times for different audiences, and so the final program result will be set up with four levels of comprehensive information.

The terms Bigfoot and Sasquatch are relatively modern terms, at least modern when used among most of us less indigenous folks. Before Bigfoot and Sasquatch there was the Wildman. Often described the same way as the Bigfoots we have come to know and love. The Memphis Enquirer, article dated May 9th, 1851 is a case in point. As you read the the description of hair, foot size and the amazing ability to leap up to 14ft at a time, you get a sense that this is a description familiar to most of us.

Even more interesting to us is the history the Wildman has had in the area, outdoorsmen describing encounters 17 years prior, starting as far back as 1834.

"During March last, Mr. Hamilton of Greene County, Arkansas, while out hunting with an acquaintance, observed a drove of cattle in a state of apparent alarm, evidently pursued by some dreaded enemy.

Halting for the purpose, they soon discovered as the animals fled by them, that they were followed by an animal bearing the unmistakable likeness of humanity.

He was of gigantic stature, the body being covered with hair and the head with long locks of hair that fairly enveloped his neck and shoulders.

The "wildman," for we must so call him, after looking at them deliberately for a short time, turned and ran away with great speed, leaping from twelve to fourteen feet at a time. His foot prints measured thirteen inches each.

This singular creature has long been known traditionally in St. Francis Green and Poinsett Counties.

Arkansas sportsmen and hunters having described him so long as seventeen years hence.

A planter, indeed, saw him very recently, but withheld his information lest he should not be credited, until the account of Mr. Hamilton and his friend placed the existence of the animal beyond cavil."

Thom Powell will headline Bigfoot Lunch Club's Bigfoot and Beer speaker series on May 26th. Until we met Mr. Powell it was hard for us to bridge the gap between the value we put on physical evidence and the relevance of the more paranormal aspects bigfooting.

Thom Powell's "Spy" paradigm comes close to bridging that gap. He proposes that our efforts would be best spent gathering information, like the CIA does, as oppose to trying to do hard science that requires us to duplicate results. In other words, Bigfoot is an unwilling uncooperative subject and we could gain better traction doing intelligence gathering.
