When we returned to Canada, we set our goals, we worked our plans, but more than anything we held a vision of where we would end up. Our vision was us already living 'in the end result' of our dream...walking the village, walking to Kenwood for breakfast (which we've blogged about before), and just living and breathing our life in this beautiful place.

Sound corny? Perhaps to some. With any change, with any new big shift in life, Belief has to exist to get you through the difficulties and obstacles. However, as Dr. T said to me this evening, "when you have the belief and the vision, obstacles and barriers just become problems to be solved" It is that simple.

So, as proof in our steady belief in 'living from the end vision' I give you Dr. T (in the corner of this picture)as we walked this autumn day through the leaves of the huge old trees in Pond Square, Highgate Village , North London. Just as we believed we would, just as we envisioned it would be...except the experience is way better!

Cheers for now. Dr. B

One of our daily walks is uphill to Highgate Village where we enjoy a coffee and catching our breath after the ascent to the top! This is my favourite part of the hike...as we climb Jackson's Lane at the top we come to this squeeze road with only enough room for automobiles to traverse one at a time (see the allowable width signage!) So here's the test of perception and belief....

....as cars approach, the driver decides, based on perceptions: size, height and width of the vehicle (or sheer recklessness and abandon) whether they should "take it slow and steady" or "run the car through and hope nothing is dented, broken or left behind". The first approach allows for planning and skilled execution, as we have witnessed on many ocassions, while the second has left glass, rubber and strips of paint in their wake! Kind of like risk-taking in life really...

...which way do we approach our dreams, hopes and desires? I wouldn't be living in London today if I hadn't taken the first approach--with skill, planning and timed execution. That way, I arrived intact and able to move forward in my life, rather than arriving in need of unwanted repairs. No broken glass, strips of paint, or regrets left in my wake for sure.

And then comes The Belief part... ultimately if you believe you can do, you will do it...it all comes down to that Leap of Faith!

Now....onward to coffee.

Where did we leave off? Oh I remember, buried under mounds of cardboard, paper, and boxes. Well, it all just became a little overwhelming...hence our absence. It has been a challenging month. Every single day filled with deliveries, installations, sorting masses of stuff out, trying to find storage when there wasn't any, working off the floor, not having any lights that work due to electrical differences...well, all and all we could say that some days were just not any fun. However, having said that, how can living in London not be fun? So as much as we got rather grumbly and downright b*****chy at times, we certainly tried never to lose sight of the fact that we had made our dream come true and we were living in London!

Anyway, here we are a month later fairly settled. Only a few details left to cover. Dr. B's desk finally arrived after 6 weeks so she is no longer on the floor, sort of, she still has no chair and it looks pretty silly to see her sitting on a low stool with her chin on the desk! Oh I should get a pic of that for the blog, wonder if she'd let me? Tomorrow drapery rods are being installed and then a couple of weeks and we will actually have curtains, thankfully before the cold weather arrives. However, I did manage to weatherstrip all the doors. Next step I have to master a drill with a masonry bit so I can hang some pictures. This I'm told takes some skill, hope they also have safety gear. I have images of the drill taking off in my hand and having hundreds of holes punched in the wall before I know it!

There is always something to do, just this last couple of weeks we went to an amazing international craft fair at the beautiful Somerset House on the banks of the Thames. I've never been a huge fan of craft fairs so it was a big risk when I suggested this for a day out with a friend. Turns out that the most gifted artisans were there from all over Europe and the U.K. It was brilliant!

We made sure we went to Frieze Art Fair, one of the largest in the world staged in Regent's Park. What an experience and a chance to see artists that we have only read about. Then offset that with the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea Park. So much art, so little time. We are already planning the calendar to make sure we see all the art shows in November and December that we can. Throw in a dog show next weekend, and oh yeah, another art sale the Secret Postcard Art Sale at the Royal College of Art. This is where you buy postcard size pics for one standard price and you don't know who it is painted by until after you buy. Could be an art student, could be the likes of a Damien Hirst or Tracy Emin. So we will be in line early that day!

Then Christmas is on its way to London, The streets will be decorated and lit soon and we, along with thousands of others will shuffle along the streets to see it all. Can' wait. How many years I've dreamt of Christmas in London and it's finally here!!!

Just goes to show...it's never to late for dreams!

Be back soon, thanks for waiting,

Dr. Toby
