I had a recent project that required me to connect my company's product to a custom Linux script. Since my company's software only runs under Windows, I had to do some research to figure out how to provide a solution. I found my beloved Putty can be utilized by grabbing a command-line utility, called Plink, and basically calling the Plink application from VBScript embedded into our product.
