In this post, we will discuss how to populate a chart web part from a SharePoint list. Here I am using chart web part in SharePoint 2013. Though Microsoft removed chart web part, you can check this workaround to make chart web part available in SharePoint 2013.

Also, you can check out:

Here I have a SharePoint list name as "Course" which has 5 columns and the data are like below:

Here I want to show a chart (bar) and want to see in Sharepoint 2013 how many trained, novice, intermediate and expert people. Similarly for SharePoint 2010, Asp.net and C#.Net skills.

For this first add a chart web part to the page (Edit Page -> INSERT -> Web Part). Once you will put the chart it will appear like below. Save the page.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" data-ad-client="ca-pub-6142301853086088" data-ad-format="link" data-ad-slot="8599530358" style="display: block;"></ins>

After that click on Data & Appearance. Then select Connect Chart To Data as shown in the fig below:

In the next step select "Connect to a List" in the Choose a Data Source section. Then click on Next.

In the next step select the site and the list in the drop down.

In the next step, it will show you the list and the data. Click Next.

The 4th Step Bind Chart to Data is an important step. Follow below instruction. Here

In the Series expand (click on +) Series Properties. Enter the name, here I am putting based on my column names. It should be like below:

Series Name: Trained
Series Type: StackedColumn (From the drop-down select the column).
Y Field: Trained (Select Trained Column from drop down)
X Field: Title (Remember this will be the same for all series)

So it will appear like below:

Then click on the + icon near series like below:

Here also fill the series details like below:

Series Name: Novice
Series Type: StackedColumn (From the drop down select the column).
Y Field: Novice (Select Novice Column from drop down)
X Field: Title (Remember this will be same for all series).

So it will appear like below:

Add all based on the columns. Here I added 4 for each column (Trained, Novice, Intermediate and Expert).

Then click on Finish.

Now your chat will appear like below:

If you want to customize a bit like you want to show the count as well as a image in the top right corner follow below steps.

Here click on Data & Appearance, then click on Customize your chat.

Here select Stacked Column and click Next as shown in the fig below:

You can set the width and Height of the chart web part. then click on Next.

The next step is very important, if you want to Show Legend then you chose Show Legend.

You can go to the Axis and Gridlines tab and if you do not want the Major Gridlines then you can deselect "Show Major Grid Lines" for both X and Y axis.

If you want to show the Labels then you can select the Label and click on Finish.

Finally, your chart will appear like below:

In SharePoint 2013, there were 4 client object models: Managed object model, Silverlight object model, Mobile object model and JavaScript object model.

Here we will discuss about various client object model.

Silverlight object model:
By using Silverlight object model, you can build Silverlight applications, Web Parts, Asp.Net applications, apps for SharePoint and Office, and Silverlight applications for phones that use SharePoint data or SharePoint objects.

The Silverlight client object model dlls are presented inside %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\15\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\ClientBin folder.

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Silverlight.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Silverlight.Runtime.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.DocumentManagement.Silverlight.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Publishing.Silverlight.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Search.Applications.Silverlight.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Search.Silverlight.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Taxonomy.Silverlight.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.UserProfiles.Silverlight.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.WorkflowServices.Silverlight.dll

Microsoft.Office.Client.Policy.Silverlight.dll

Microsoft.Office.Client.TranslationServices.Silverlight.dll

So according to your rwquirement you can use the above dlls to work with silverlight application.

Example of Silverlight client object model:

In this example, we will see the item count for a list.

using (ClientContext clientContext = ClientContext.Current)
{

List objList = clientContext.Web.Lists.GetByTitle("MyList");

clientContext.Load(this.objList);

lblResultCount = this.objList.ItemCount.ToString();

}

It will show number of items in the list.

Mobile client object model:
The Mobile object model can be used to create applications that run on Windows Phones. The Mobile client-side object model contains some functionality that is specific to phones, such as APIs that enable a phone app to register for notifications from the Microsoft Push Notification Service.

The required dlls are found inside %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\15\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\ClientBin folder.

The dlls are:
Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Phone.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Phone.Runtime.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.DocumentManagement.Phone.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Publishing.Phone.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Taxonomy.Phone.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.UserProfiles.Phone.dll

Microsoft.Office.Client.Policy.Phone.dll

Microsoft.Office.Client.TranslationServices.Phone.dll

Managed client object model:
The Managed object model can be used to create .NET applications that run on Windows operating systems that aren't phones or SharePoint servers. The managed client object model dlls are found inside ISAPI folder.

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Runtime.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.ServerRuntime.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.DocumentManagement.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Publishing.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Search.Applications.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Search.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.Taxonomy.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.UserProfiles.dll

Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.WorkflowServices.dll

Microsoft.Office.Client.Education.dll

Microsoft.Office.Client.Policy.dll

Microsoft.Office.Client.TranslationServices.dll

Microsoft.Office.SharePoint.ClientExtensions.dll

JavaScript client object model:
JavaScript client object model does not contain any dlls, rather it contains .js files. These .js files are located inside LAYOUTS folder and mainly functionality exists inside SP.js and SP.Core.js. The JavaScript object model can be used in inline script or in separate .js files.

In this post, we will discuss how we can hide a field from NewForm, EditForm and Display Form in SharePoint 2010 using SharePoint Manager Tool.

To know more about SharePoint Manager Tool, you can follow my previous article.

Also, you can check my previous posts on:

To do this through SharePoint Manager, Open the Tool by double-clicking on the exe file.

Then from the left-hand side, you can select the particular column name from the left side of the tool and then you can change the property ShowInDisplayForm to false, like that you can change for other fields also. Check the fig below:
In this post we will discuss how to solve when the infopath form shows status as installing in SharePoint 2010. Also you can check my previous posts on:

- Get icon for different file types in SharePoint 2010

- Create event receiver in Sandboxed solution is SharePoint

- Create an approval workflow in SharePoint Designer 2010

Sometimes when you upload an infopath form template in the central administration, it will stuck and shows installing status in the central administration. You can see this in the Central Administration -> Manage Form Templates.
The problem is the wsp related to the infopath has not been properly deployed. Check out this article to know more about how to deploy infopath form using PowerShell and STSADM command.

Solution:

Open SharePoint 2010 central administration, then Go to System Settings -> Manage Farm Solution. Here check the deployment status for the wsp file. If the deployment status in Deploying (scheduled at date..) then Click the wsp and cancel the deployment.

Then go to Central Administration -> Solution Properties then Deloy the Solution again. This time it should be successful.
Here we will discuss some of the limitations of SharePoint 2010 workflow. You can read previous posts on:

- Get icon for different file types in SharePoint 2010

- Disable default email for approval workflow in SharePoint 2010 designer

- Create list item using JavaScript object model in SharePoint 2013

1- SharePoint 2010 can have only one workflow execution host per SharePoint 2010 farm, shared between all web applications. Because workflow is not a service in SharePoint 2010.
2- Sometimes sharepoint 2010 workflow in fact performance because they are frequently hydrated and dehydrated between different tiers of the farm.

3- Workflows execute under the security context of the site's application pool as a super user which is not preferable always.

4- Since workflows run as a super user in SharePoint 2010, sandboxed solutions cannot be used to host a programmatic workflow. But you can create a workflow action in sandboxed solution and use that in SharePoint 2010 designer workflow.

5- SharePoint 2010 is tightly coupled with a specific version of .NET Framework and Windows Workflow Foundation, so very difficult to accept latest workflow technologies from Microsoft.

Hope we will see some very good changes in workflow area in SharePoint 2013.

In this post we will discuss how we can get icon for different file types in SharePoint 2010. Also you can check out my previous posts on:
If you are working in custom search and your search result in returning various file types like
html, pdf, excel or word etc. and you want to show a small icon for corresponding file types then this article will help you.

This function will take parameter as the itemURL and it will return corresponding icon URL. MapToIcon function of SPUtility class will give us the iconURL.

private string GetIconURL(string itemURL)
{
string iconURL = string.Empty;

iconUrl = "/_layouts/images/" + SPUtility.MapToIcon(SPContext.Current.Web, itemURL, string.Empty, IconSize.Size16);

return iconURL;
}

This will open the customize page for overall task process. From this page click on "Change the behavior of the overall task process" from the Customization link as shown in the fig below:

Now from the "When the Task Process Starts" select "then Email Workflow Context:Initiator" and select Delete Action as shown in the fig below:

This will delete the email which will disable sending email when workflow starts.

Similarly if you want to disable the email when approver reject the email then go to "When the Task Process Completes" and then go to the end "if Variable:IsItemDeleted equals Yes" and Delete the Else condition Email Workflow Context:Initiator as shown in the fig below:
If you are working in SharePoint 2010 designer workflow, you might get an issue while publishing a workflow. Sometimes if you modify the workflow and publish it, but SharePoint still shows the old details.

Before that, you can also check out my previous posts on:

- Bind drop-down list from SharePoint list in InfoPath 2010

Reason:
The reason behind SharePoint shows the old version is that, SharePoint Designer cache workflow activities in the local user folder. So it is actually publishing the cached workflow but not the modified one.

Solution:
Open this folder C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebsiteCache and delete the cache which named in your site name.

Now restart SharePoint designer 2010 and try to publish the workflow. Now your updated version should appear. The same error can be resolved in SharePoint designer 2013 also.
In this post we will discuss how to make date time picker read-only in InfoPath 2010. Also you can check out my previous posts on:

There are certain controls like Textbox, Rich Text Box can made read only by simply right click and go to the properties and then navigate to the Display tab and then select the check box Read-only . But controls like Dropdownlist, Check box, Date Picker, Date and Time Picker we can not make read-only like this.
To an alternative approach you can add rules to the control and you can make disable the control.

Or You can use Conditional Formatting to make the control disable.

But if you really do not need user to select a date, then it is better to use a Text box and set a formula Today() or Now() which will populate the current date to the textbox.

Summery is if you want to make a date and time picker control read-only in InfoPath 2010, you must use conditional formatting.

Reason:
By default SharePoint is configured with a security policy called WSS_Minimal. This policy definition does not grant access to the SharePoint object model.

Solution:
We need to give full trust level in web application web.config file. For this Navigate to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\<Web Application>

Add the below line to the web applications web.config file in system.web section:

<trust level="Full" originUrl="" />

Now it should work.

Reason:
The error usually comes if the thresholds set for Number of actions per postback increases.

Solution:
Open SharePoint 2010 Central Administration. Go to General Application Setting and then click on Configure InfoPath Forms Services from InfoPath forms Services section as shown in the figure below:

Here we need to change 2 things.

1- From the Configure InfoPath Forms Services page go to Thresholds section and Change the value set for Number of actions per postback: to max of 250 or 300 as per your requirement. By default it was set to 200.

2- Then go to User Sessions and Change value set for Maximum size of user session data: to a maximum value according to your requirement. The default value set was to 4096 kilobytes.

Check out the figure below:

Reason:
The warning message usually comes if The Default data connection response size increases. By default The Default data connection response size is set to 1500kb for Form Services.

Solution:
Open SharePoint 2010 Central Administration. Go to General Application Setting and then click on Configure InfoPath Forms Services from InfoPath forms Services section as shown in the figure below:

Then from Configure InfoPath Forms Services page go to Data Connection Response Size and increase that to more than the default value according to your requirement. By default it will be 1500 kb. Change like below figure.

Now the error should go.

Reason:
This error comes if the Microsoft SharePoint Server State Service is not activated.

Solution:
You can activate by using PowerShell or by using the Configuration Wizards. In this post we will discuss about how we can activate using Configuration Wizards.

Follow below steps:
Step-1:
Open SharePoint Central Administration and click on Configuration Wizards as shown in the figure below:

Step-2:
From the Configuration Wizards page, click Launch the Farm Configuration Wizard. Then click on Start the Wizard.

Step-3:
On the services configuration page, in the Services section, select the State Service check box as shown in the figure below:
Here in this article, we will discuss the steps to enable "Sign in as Different User" Option in SharePoint 2013.

In SharePoint 2013 there is no option for "Sign in as different user" default. So we need to follow certain steps to Enable this option manually.

If you will go to the "System Account" drop-down, You won't find any option as "Sign in as Different User".
The below are the steps to enable "Sign in as Different User" Option in SharePoint 2013

Step-1:
Go to the following path, You will find one "Welcome.ascx" file there. We need to edit this file to enable this option.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web ServerExtensions\15\TEMPLATE\CONTROLTEMPLATES

Step-2:
Open the file welcome.ascx in Visual studio and add the below part of the code above the tag that has "ID_RequestAcess" and save it.

<SharePoint:MenuItemTemplate runat="server" ID="ID_LoginAsDifferentUser"
 Text="<%$Resources:wss,personalactions_loginasdifferentuser%>"
 Description="<%$Resources:wss,personalactions_loginasdifferentuserdescription%>"
 MenuGroupId="100"
 Sequence="100"
 UseShortId="true"
 />

Note: You should add the above code above the tag that has ID_RequestAcess.

Step-3:
Now Refresh your site and you will now find "Sign in as different user" will be enabled. You will find this option in the "System Account" dropdown.

The above are all the steps to enable Sign in as Different User Option in SharePoint 2013.
