That&#39;s twice in three weeks. Considering how little I bike commuted in 2012, this is very promising. 

It helped that I left after 7 am today whereas the last time I tried to get the jump around 6:30 am (more sun!). Also the weather in general was just warmer, too. It&#39;s a new year and I&#39;m trying to get off to a good start. I made my first bike commute of the year last Friday, my first ride since October. Yay!

Speaking of that last ride, it did not go so well. This happened:



Yep, my pedal broke off. The thread was completely stripped, so it couldn&#39;t even be fixed. I had to catch a ride home for me and my bike.

I would like to complete an actual century this year, but this event is not going to be the time. I will be riding the 66-mile route. The stock saddle on my bike is fairly narrow, about 145 mm, and more suited to sportier riding. The Brooks is 175 mm wide and is considered by many de rigueur for commuting, touring, and other such riding. I&#39;m hoping the change will be of long term benefit. It didn&#39;t take me long to figure that Ruffin Road (between Kearny Villa Rd &amp;amp; Aero Drive) is being prepared for new bike lanes.

At one point I managed to catch the confluence of, I think, 3 buses on part of my route. They insisted on taking turns getting in front of me and letting passengers off. Of course when a bus pulls over it completely blocks the bike lane. Since I just started doing my once weekly bike commute car-free, she said to go ahead and sign up. So sign up I did.

As I mentioned before I was excited to find I could do the one-way ride in just over an hour. Since this is barely more time than the drive &amp;amp; bike routine was taking, it was more than enough justification to just ride all the way. 

The weather was warm and I was feeling good. They had previously marked the lanes &quot;bike symbol green&quot; so I was wondering exactly what it would be. Curiously in places that were previously marked &quot;bike legend&quot; they put down the same markings in white paint on the bare pavement.
