I have DT Swiss TK 540 rims which are tubeless noncompatible. However, I have successfully converted to tubeless with 42mm Terravail Washburn tubeless tires. Around town I have been running 42psi rear and 40psi front. They seem to work flawlessly the last fee weeks. I am considering taking off on a five day 500 mile self supported trip. Is this ill advised? Should I convert back to tubes before my trip. I am really enjoying the set up but dont want to do anything dangerous and have the tires blow off the rims. I would love to hear your knowledgeable opinions. Thsnks in advance

I just picked these up on CL as I thought they looked cool. I thought they would look nice on the AD Vent Noir I picked up a few weeks ago.
I can see the cook bros racing on the arms, but curious which model they are and roughly how old.

Hey folks. New to the group.

I'm looking to restore an old Fuji Palisades (80/90ss?) road bike. I know there's little value in it but I'm doing it for the novelty and experience; helps that the bike is in fantastic shape, just old and grim. I daily ride a Jamis Coda.

I work more on cars and have lots of car tools. Beyond tire replacement and cleaning/greasing, I've never fully tear-down a bicycle (every nut comes off and will be repainted) before and quickly realize specialty tools needed. I'm looking for guidance in avoiding getting unnecessary tool kit IF I can get away with using a generic/common tool. I really don't want to stock any more tools unless it is absolutely necessary. I have everything off except the hub and cassette.

Below are a few things I think I need. Is there anything else to consider?

-hub puller
-spanner wrench
-chain pin remover
Although this may not actually be C&V, Im posting here because of the great knowledge base.
Does anyone have experience with Giant P-SLR1 wheels? There is a set for sale on our local Craigs List very cheap. The sellers comment is that he replaced them because he had broken spokes and couldnt find replacements. These wheels are built with straight pull spokes that are threaded on both ends. They also use a different design of nipple. I would like to use them on a Giant TCR2-1R bike that Im building for a friends son if they are salvageable.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

Recently, my bike developed the problem where when put under load (eg standing up or honking), it would briefly snap out of gear. Concerting of course, but especially for me, as I stand up to pedal often on climbs.

No worries ... I can fix that. I bought a new cassette and chain and replaced both (although the chain did not appear to have any stretch, I replaced it anyway).

The problem remained.

I was going to replace the shifter cable soon anyway, so I did that too (good thing, as it was about to snap again ... oy, those early brifter designs were hard on cables).

The problem remained.

I just wasn't feeling the love in replacing thing after thing, messing with the B-screw, or any of the other things that might have caused the problem. ALL of the components on this bike are 20 years old, so it really could be anything. So I punted and packed it off to the bike shop. The mechanic took one look at it and opined that it was the middle chainring (the one I ride in some 90% of the time). I'll admit it looked a little worn, but why would that cause the chain to skip on the cassette? I wasn't convinced, but with his endorsement, I thought I would try it.

I'm in the habit of buying replacement parts for bikes before I need them because they can get hard to find. In this case, I had purchased a replacement triple crankset back when they were being phased out and were quite inexpensive. I put it aside for later.

So I went back and installed that crankset. Pretty easy job nowadays.

And it worked! No more skipping. Sweet.

And then, I thought ... well, what am I going to do now when I need another crankset? They aren't available anymore, and that was my last one!

I'm here to confess that I am one of those "child of depression era" people who were taught to replace and repair things whenever possible. In other words:

"Use it up, wear it out, make it due, or do without."

I get crap about it too. My SO recently called me a "country bumpkin" because I'm on an iPhone X that uses an iOS so old, it is not relevant to the latest updates everyone is complaining about. My car is 23 years old, and I have no intention of replacing it until I have to, much to the chagrin of my daughter.

And back to the crankset ... I realized ... I got 20 years out of the last crankset. By the time the new one wears out, I'll be lucky to be on the right side of the grass, let alone riding a bike.

I guess that means it'll be ok. :D

And PS: I AM going to order a new middle chainring for that old crankset. I can't help myself.

So I had my first 200 mile week of the year last week. Then on Saturday night I was hobbled with a sprained ankle. (No twisting or landing on it wrong, just riding.)
This ankle has a history of problems in my athletic youth and required taping then.
