This is not a goodbye entry.

As time goes, things changed - The people, the environment, and the surrounding changes as time goes by.

Recently, I had been busy over competition, studies and exams. Time doesn’t wait for people. It’s May now, and December 2006 countdown party seems to happen as if it is just yesterday.

Recently, had been too busy and didn’t manage to rest well. Sleep less than 3 hours a day, sometimes didn’t have to chance to have my meals, health finally gives me a warning signal.

Last Sunday, my body could not take it any more and I fall into serious ill and Monday have some exams papers. It’s my mid-year period and only gods knows how important it is to me. Finally, a person like me who doesn’t like to see doctor have to drag himself to the doctor and guess what? I am seriously ill and unfit to do the exams.

I did the mid year after all. My last paper will be next Monday. I know I didn’t do well. Image my horror when I vomited blood, image my head felt as if it is floating in the air.

Took some time to rest recently; Aim of resting is not to be lazy, but to walk a further distant of life. During this period of time, I had thought about a lot of thing. Words just cannot describe the feeling deep inside my heart. Only I know what does the world means to me.

Perfectionist, aim to get everything perfect, even thought people told it is impossible. He told others, “Nothing is impossible, the impossible just take a longer time to be possible.” No one understands him, nor does no one understand what he really wants. Being too quite and everything keep to him, he surfer a lot, a lot.

A blog, set up by him wanted for him to air his views, but due to his thinking, he keeps hiding away.

I had enough! My life has to go on.

I am trying to change myself, let’s accept the fact that I did not forget the purpose of stating writing a blog and name this blog Bilingual fingers. To be a bilingual person and let’s others know better about me.

Just wait for a moment while I clear up some stuff leave undone. I will back in action soon.

Love,
Cockroach
--------------------------
Thanks for still continue visiting this blog. Will keep the blog updated. :D
Meantime, if you know anyone who knows how to do PHP programming and web design. I need these people to help me with SGEduLab.com stuff. The fab claims itself as the 2nd largest in the world.

It was a 1 to 1 interview with a fat Taiwanese manager. The Very First thing the manager asked me after my introduction is

Taiwanese Pig Manager: "I see you are a Singaporean. Do you need to go back to serve NS every year?"

I replied Yes, I do need to go back

Taiwanese Pig Manager: "Oh, so you have been going back even during your uni studies?"

Me: "Yes, at least once per year.

Then came the f-up remarks
Taiwanese Pig Manager: "How long do you need to go back every year? You Know, I once have this Singaporean Subordinate. He every year need to go back for like 2 weeks of in camp training, then still need to apply leave every now and then for some kind of briefing talks by NS."

"Worse, he needs to pass some kind of physical test every Year, so when he trains for his test by running in the night, he will have no energy to do work in the morning, Affect Job Performance. Then if he fails, need to attend RT, waste of company time."

"If every Singaporean needs to do all this, then I rather don't hire you all then. 1 year you all will have like a few months no need to work due to NS, And you also are quite old compare to other graduates"

Read this from hardwarezone.com and got some feelings towards it. I remember few months ago Uncle ZZZ faced similar discrimination from the job interview. In the end, he didn’t get the job; maybe given to female or foreign talent.

Sometimes, it troubled me. I wonder if the government had done enough to help male Singaporean to overcome those discrimination and disadvantage. Yes, maybe the reservist year is shorter; laws had implemented to protect the male Singaporeans. But within the community and public itself, there are still many discrimination towards male Singaporean when comes to working. Companies would also prefer not to hire the reservists. I also understand that small companies would not able to bear the cost of their staff going back for reservist. But does that mean that all males have to work at big companies?

It’s another reason why female and foreign talent should serve National Service too. :)

Boring Pig Year

It has been a boring piggy year for me…

I stayed at home to complete some assignment. Basically, they were unhappy about the GST, but were happy about government giving them money again.

Think again, is the government doing enough to help its people? Not just about the Budget 2007, but other issues that people are concern as well. What would YOU do if you are the government? Thus, I came out with this “mimi” which allows you to be the government of Singapore.

What are the 5 things you would do if you are the Government of Singapore?

1. I would want female to serve National Service too. Males had wasted a lot of chances compared to females because of National Service. Some have to give up their scholarship; some have to get stuck in Singapore, separated with their family. Female get to work earlier than the males. Unfair isn’t it? Please don’t tell me life is unfair or female are too girly to be in the National Service. Females can be the National Service cook for the guy (the food still sucks), help with office work. Isn’t it great? I didn’t say ask them to march for 24km! After all, everyone have a part to play in defending Singapore.

2. I would also want to change education system and policy. Current system and policy, I can’t say it is not good, but there are rooms for improvement. I would also want students to study in Hi-Tech environment, using computers/ laptops to study. But of course it might lead to other problems, which I don’t really care much.

3. I would want to improve the working condition here. Nowadays people are lowly paid compared with our foreign talent. Local people overworked yet underpaid. I will implement some laws so that more jobs would be created and unload people’s work so that they have more time to spend with their family.

4. I would also implement a law that all married couples are to have sex every week no matter what. Okay, not exactly to have sex but to have at least a child after 5 years of marriage. This is to solve the population in Singapore. If not, we really have to ask foreign talent to have sex here in Singapore.

5. Last but not least, I would give Singaporean the freedom of speech. I don’t care their comments is directly shooting at my party (If I have one), but I believe comments will help my government to work harder and give the best to its people.

So, what are the 5 things you would do if you are the Government of Singapore?

National Service - I am crazy over it

I went to the library today, took a book from the shelf and start reading the book – The Army Daze. My teacher had been staring at me, most likely wondering why am I so interested in National Service.

I don’t know. I am somehow very excited to get enlisted to National Service. Ever since I got my first letter telling me I now no longer can run away from NS, I had been reading a lot of stuff related to NS. I had been talking to classmate about National Service, telling them some interesting stories I read online and heard from my friends. But none of them very interested. Most likely they might think cockroach is a crazy guy who love NS so much where else others hate it so much.

Don’t get me wrong. I am a guy who has been failing NAFA test in my secondary school life. If I enlist into NS, I might have problem doing even 1 pushup. I might have problem overcome the SOC, or maybe I can’t even pass my IPPT forever in my NS life. I might need to start training now to get myself a little fit. But at the end of the day, no words can describe the feeling I am having now regarding about National Service. I am just super duper excited.

Crazy as you might say. But I really looking forward to be get enlisted. Maybe just few more months, I might apply for early enlistment. Or maybe two to three years later when I finish my JC or Poly courses I will enter a new chapter of my life.

Last year, my mum had a conversation with my old neighbour who holding Singapore PR. They went to cancel their son’s PR because of the NS thing. My mum said this,

“National Service good what. They assuming that I memories everything word by word. They assuming that I read the whole textbook in order to do well for my exam. They assuming that – Cockroach is a hardworking boy.

But, the fact is that I don’t really like the way people study for humanities. I find it a bit wrong by using those methods to study. I know someone who memories the whole textbook, I know someone who write out the notes again and again. I also know someone learn with a unique way – sleeping on the history textbook, hoping information can goes into the head.

To be honest, I don’t really like to study history or social studies. Why should we study dead people? But we have no choice; I made myself love humanities by study further. Sorry, I don’t like using textbook. If I have a choice, I would not want to buy any textbook. I would want to go to the library to find out all the information.

Yes. I guess I do well because I read more than what I need to. I don’t memories the whole junk of facts into my head. Maybe I did, but for the important factor. Most of the time, during exam, I write out answers by using my own English, my own words, my own expression. I use my own feeling to handle the essay questions. Something which I guess not many of my classmates did that. They memories the whole model essay book hopping the exact question would come out, which hardly will.

The problem is that many people thought that textbooks or guide books had all the information that needed for exam. But, I find that information from those books is too condensing until people would not be able to know more about the topic. They are trapped in this maze, the maze which prevents them to know more and expand their knowledge.

They have to walk out this maze in order to do well for exam I guess. I don’t know. Different people have different ways to study for their exam. But one thing I know for sure is that – studying is not for the “Paper” we getting, but to know more about the world and expand our knowledge. No harm to know more than what is required for exam.

I guess I shall stop here. If not publisher of textbooks and guide book will sue me for slander. You see, I don’t want to be the next blogger who got sued. ^^

Prejudice

Prejudice by Cockroach

I moved into my new house wanted to start a new life. I was accused for molesting and was in prison for two years. I wanted to let go of my past and wanted to get a job as soon as possible. My family had left me; my friends had been avoiding me. All I ask was that the society to give me a second chance. My life was grimed because of my past…

I had faced many problems while looking for jobs. People had rejected me when they knew I was an ex-convict. I started to get used to those discrimination. I believed that one day, someone will accept me. The neighbours also had shown their concern about me being joblessness. I did not dare to tell them the reason. I was afraid that they would avoid me if they knew my past. But things could not be avoided. Somehow, they knew about my past and started to avoid me when they saw me.

Few months passed, I managed to get an accountant job in the bank, but my neighbours were still avoiding me. I did not know what I should do to ask them to accept me. I wanted to start a new life, yet people were not giving me the chance. Until a new neighbour moved in, I thought she might not know anything and we could be friends.

But that was not the case. The new neighbour did not talk to me after a few days even though we met each other in the lift a couple of times. I sensed that she was avoiding me; most likely she knew my past from the other neighbours. I felt so sad, angry yet helpless. I needed friends, I needed people to accept me, I needed people to leave my past behind and to trust me that I had turned into a new leaf. But I guessed that would not happen.

One day, as I was walking home, I heard,

“Girl! Do not stand so close to that guy. You would not know will he want to molest you,” said one of my neighbours.

I felt so hurt and disappointed. I did not know what to say nor either did I know what I should do at that time. People began to crowd around me whispering among themselves. I felt so unwelcome and hurt. I held my tears. Then I heard someone shouted,

“Enough!”

Everyone looked at her, the new neighbour, wondering what happened. And she continues,

“Someone might make a mistake in the past. But we should not discriminate them,” she said.

I looked at her and she gave me a wink. She walked to me and whisper into my ears,

“People might discriminate you, but I never will.”

I looked at her with tears in my eyes. Finally I got to know someone who was willing to leave my past behind and accept me for being who I am.

“Thank you for unlocking my second prison,” I said to my new neighbour, Jolin, who is now my wife.

Get to know myself better

Saw this personality test at 小心's blog and thought it would be fun if I try it. This is my result:

Your view on yourself:
You are down-to-earth and people like you because you are so straightforward. You are an efficient problem solver because you will listen to both sides of an argument before making a decision that usually appeals to both parties.
The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:
You like serious, smart and determined people. You don't judge a book by its cover, so good-looking people aren't necessarily your style. This makes you an attractive person in many people's eyes.
Your readiness to commit to a relationship:
You prefer to get to know a person very well before deciding whether you will commit to the relationship.
The seriousness of your love:
Your have very sensible tactics when approaching the opposite sex. In many ways people find your straightforwardness attractive, so you will find yourself with plenty of dates.
Your views on education
Education is very important in life. You want to study hard and learn as much as you can.
The right job for you:
You're a practical person and will choose a secure job with a steady income. Knowing what you like to do is important. Find a regular job doing just that and you'll be set for life.
How do you view success:
You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don't succeed. Don't give up when you haven't yet even started! Be courageous.
What are you most afraid of:
You are afraid of having no one to rely on in times of trouble. You don't ever want to be unable to take care of yourself. Independence is important to you.
Who is your true self:
You are mature, reasonable, honest and give good advice. People ask for your comments on all sorts of different issues. Sometimes you might find yourself in a dilemma when trapped with a problem, which your heart rather than your head needs to solve.
----------------

Quite true. I might able to learn how to make more friends in NS, I might know how to drink beer in NS, I might learn how to spend money in NS, I might learn how to smoke in NS(though I don’t think I will ever like the smell of cigarette)

Sometimes, I feel that parent must learn how to let go. I know, parent’s kids will always remain as a kids to the parents no matter how old the kids were. But parents should know that it is part of their child growing up and should put too much restriction on their child especially when the kid had grown up.

For me, I got restriction because of my family. I got my family duty to do. It’s part of my duty to play a part in the family. But because of this, I don’t really get the chance to interact with other people outside my house. This made me a very introvert person.

As much as I want to interact with other people in real life, I just find it difficult to do so. I just simply don’t know how to.

Had been reading Mr. Dew’s National Service posts. From Medical Check up to ORD left 5 months plus away. I enjoy reading army and National Service related stuff. I believe that National Service can change my life. I want, and need to get out of this comfort zone. I trust that National Service will able to teach me skill that I am not equip now, for example: social skills.

I think those social skills that I will equip in National service will labeled as “Bad” by my parents. But I believe that it will help me with my offline social network.

Sometimes wish to enter National Service as soon as possible.

First day of school in 2007

Went to school today, nothing much happen. Stressing over studies and website, SGEduLab.com.

Not easy, but I made it. Remember people were telling me I won’t able to make it in ‘N’ level because of my English, yet I proved to them I can do it. Remember people were telling me SGEduLab won’t works, but it still working alright.

But, personally, I still feel that I am not doing well this year. I failed to do something – interact with other people. I had been staying at home taking care of kids for years. People around my age most properly will go out for shopping and etc after school, but I didn’t. I didn’t enjoy my teenage life at all. All I do is stay at home looking after kids. During holiday, I went to work, and found that because I had stayed at home for too long, I didn’t know how to interact with other people. I don’t know how to talk to other people. I don’t know how, how to make friends with other people. I had stuck in the online social network and totally unable to handle offline connection.

This is my weakness, my biggest weakness and road block in my life. My aim – to clear this blockage to make more friends offline and explore the wonders of life. I hope, I am able to make it in 2007.

Wish everyone have a good year ahead!

Love,
Cockroach//蟑螂

Six Sense Dream, Trouble

People who know me well enough will know this.

I have “Six Sense Dream”.

Meaning, I have Six Sense in the dream. Since Car and GeckoZ are buddy since secondary school, I had been telling GeckoZ to tell Car to be careful while in Army. I got into depression because of this. I even have the urge to go for National Service.

Recently my dream had been telling me that the person who got injured is not Car. Mainly because busy with SGEduLab’s stuff and my work. But internet never left my life, I still online most of the time.

Waiting for my GCE ‘N’ level result is a killer! I wonder how badly I did for it. Will I fail my English? Gods knows. Well, whatever had been done are done. No point worrying now. If fail, maybe go take as private candidate for O levels?

Guess what I am working as during my long holidays? Nope, I did not want to rot myself at home doing nothing nor wasting my time at shopping malls shop for new technology gadgets. Cockroach now working in travel industry as…eh…. Sorry, I am not sure my job title. Ha! Ha! I do quite a lot of things and learn quite a lot of things too! I had been kept inside house for years for taking care of kids, now working in the society, I find that I got a lot of things to catch up, learn, see, do and experience it.

Some people who I know also have been asking about my pay. Well, my answer “I don’t know anything about pay. I start working without knowing my pay.” Sound stupid, but true. Till now I still don’t know about my pay’s details. One thoughts: “What happen if I got cheated and do free labour?” Well, one thing I can say is “If got cheated, take it as lesson. The experience I got, cannot buy using money.”

(But still, I am still afraid I will get cheated >.<)

Had a short chat with Peggy, and she was telling me to be careful while working in travel industry. Didn’t know that she worked in Travel Industry before. Surprise, Surprise…

Well, got to work on the SGEduLab Template. Today, Lizard acted quite weird just now in Instance Messenger. I do not know why, I sudden felt the world I used to belong started to be away from me. “What happened?” I asked myself. Is it because I am over acting like a person who talks a lot of rubbish or because I am already a person who I am not used to be?

I wish, I wish to return back to the older times where by I am a normal person, surfing website as my leisure, playing Neopets like a kid, a normal blogger who blog about his daily life and joke. Doctor gave me an 1 week MC on Thursday because my “machine” is “overheated”. Parents, friends, teachers asked me to rest, but I got no time left. GCE is just around the corner.

I now need to do something with my English, especially spelling, grammar and sentence structure. Because, if I don’t do anything, cockroach will ended up failing the GCE exam. Singapore education made me living in fear because of my English standard. No one helped me in my English when I was young, I don’t have god English foundation, I need to start from the basic. I can score A1s for all my subject but F9 for my English. Study so hard yet in the end because of English, I can’t go anywhere. Sometimes, it make me feel that “study so hard also no use, in the end will also fail the exam.” Lizard said that it is unfair if I got just fail my English and can’t move on. But what can we do? To make my English much better.

Cockroach had tried reading storybooks, newspaper and etc to brush up my English. But the problem is, the words that I learnt can’t go into the brain. The spelling, how people memorize the spelling? How? How? Cockroach is going to be crazy one day because of the failure I made in my studies, pass all subject but English.

Please don’t say cockroach being negative. Even teachers thinks I can’t pass my GCE because of my English. Cockroach is preparing for the worst, where should I go if I fail my GCE?
Cockroach plan:

Work, save up money and go to British Council. Meantime, study for O level in a private school or get a tutor to teach me O level stuff and take exam as private candidates next year.

Or maybe, follow my parent idea, go to ITE.

Which plan is better? Cockroach don’t want to go to ITE, never. I know what I want to achieve in my life, what is my goals, going ITE might just ruin my future.

Can anyone give me advise?

Are Singaporeans too busy?

Till now, I haven’t seen much like SGEduLab which help the community in Singapore. Are Singaporeans too busy thinking of ways to make more money and had forgotten that everyone have to play a part in the community regardless of race, language or religion(okay, I got this from Singapore pledge)? Or they, like what those ang moh say, Singaporeans are selfish and only think for themselves.

As Singapore keep improving and making more money (For the next progress package in the next election), many people tend to forgot that we have to help one another. Since when the last time you lend your egg to your neighbor, since when the last time help someone to get something for him or her, since when your last time help the community by doing community service? Student often do community service for their CIP, when they are out of their school, they had forgotten about the purpose and too busy with their work and studies. We cannot wait until one day when there is war, any people got killed because of our selfishness and then after the war we have “Help one another campaign”.

Many people work for money, they often not willing to work or contribute for free. This is what I learn from after setting up SGEduLab.com. My idea of creating SGEduLab is that to allow students to contribute their notes they have and to share with other students who taking GCE ‘N’ and ‘O’ level. But somehow, it don’t really work. Instead, 9 out of 10 email I got is demanding for more notes, the another 1 person is the only person out of 10 people contribute the notes they have. When asking the another 9 people to contribute also, here is their reply:

Sorry, I got no time.

I believe, living in a community is like playing a community game. Everyone must play a part so that everyone can make the game keep going. If no one or many people won’t want to play a part, the game will end very soon, which everyone will be the loser of the game.

Cockroach here would like to say something, people must help one another before something can success. Take SGEduLab for example, if no one contribute, there is no notes for us, the student, to download. Everyone will just demand for new notes to upload and new subject to open. In the end, everyone loss out in this community game because we don’t get what we wanted.

Cockroach hope to see more people stand out and help the community and not stay at home watch TV or stay in the office thinking of ways to get promoted and get more money. Spend one day and contribute to the community and I believe you can feel the feeling of being a helping hand.

Cockroach is the founder of SGEduLab.com, a website which allows student to send in notes and share with the others. Currently SGEduLab are lack of helpers and contributors. Cockroach is not angry about lacking of helpers and contributors but hoping that Singaporeans can play a part in the community so that Singapore can be a better place to be in!
