U.S. stocks rallied Thursday for a third day after European officials promised once again , action to stem the european debt crisis.  Investment strategy favorites gold , silver and crude oil posted gains while Treasuries slipped. The euro firmed in the afternoon after an earlier drop versus the dollar. Beaten down bank stocks rallied, helping the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index to post a 1.8 percent gain closing  just a fraction over 1164.00.

US Equities bounced from early morning weakness as investors adjusted their trading and investment strategies when news stories regarding measures European countries are contemplating to halt the sovereign debt crisis began circulating trading desks. The debt crisis is threatening to spread; just today the Belgium government said a “bad bank” to hold Dexia SA (DEXB)’s troubled assets will be set up. While scant  news on pro-growth policies have emerged from the EU, bailing out banks in Europe calmed investors and caused many to re-think investment strategies .  The final hour of trading was ripe with speculation that European Union Governments will recapitalize or nationalize banks. The S&P 500 closed up 2.3 percent to 1,123.95, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the volatile session with a gain of 153 points.

 U.S. stocks lost steam during the last hour of trading today after investors had second thoughts about bullish investment strategies and booked profits on short term winning trades following a Financial Times report that some euro-area countries are demanding some private creditors take bigger haircuts on Greek bond holdings. Gold and Crude Oil held onto gains after a volatile trading day.  The Euro currency slipped a bit against the dollar after the Financial Times report revealing that seven of the seventeen nations who use the euro feel private creditors should take bigger losses on their Greek bond holdings. The paper cited unnamed senior European officials.

U.S. stocks  rose ,the Euro surged and Gold slipped  Thursday after the European Central Bank said it will lend dollars to support liquidity in  the euro-area  caused traders to adust investment strategies.  The Frankfurt-based ECB said it will coordinate with the Federal Reserve and other central banks to conduct three separate dollar liquidity operations to ensure banks have enough of the currency through the end of the year.

U.S. stocks, Crude Oil and the Euro generally rose during the day; Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index was up 4.5% in the Sept. 10 week following a 4.9% gain the previous week. . Crude Oil rose for a second day in as investors expect crude supply data scheduled for release tomorrow by the Department of Energy will show a decline for a second week.  Month-to-date the Redbook Retail Sales data for September was up 4.7% compared to September of last year. Month-over-month showed a 0.2% gain compared to August. Redbook says, ‘Most retailers reported an excellent Labor Day holiday, with better than expected sales growth on Sunday and Monday as the season approached its peak back-to-school selling period”.  Beaten down European bank stocks moved higher and the Euro rallied to 13700 as French banks dismissed worries over their access to funds.

Plunging Consumer data caused traders to revisit familiar investing strategies.  A plunge in Consumer Confidence to 44.5 in August from 59.2 in July caused many
traders to revisit  familiar investing strategies for a ‘Zero Rate’ environment with possibly more quantitative easing.  Gold, Silver, Crude Oil and Farm goods, considered risk assets, rose Tuesday after aggressively dovish comments from Chicago Fed President Charles Evans and the largest drop in Consumer Confidence since October 2008. This combination convinced many speculators of further stimulus by Monetary and Fiscal Authorities.

Gold slipped Tuesday August 23, 2011 from record highs set over the previous 24 hours. Inverse ETF’s to hedge long gold and silver exposure closed the trading session higher. U.S.Equities markets rose on optimism the Federal Reserve will act to spur growth in weeks ahead.   Aggressive Federal Reserve Policy cannot cure our ills , it will only help.  Pro-growth energy and regulatory policies by the US  are needed to create jobs and reduce huge trade deficits and create jobs.  Earlier this month the White House hinted some help may be on the way, interior Secretary Ken Salazar went to Anchorageand said the Obama  administration supports more oil drilling in Alaska.
