I’ve just completed redoing my wedding photography portfolio galleries! It’s always difficult to decide what I want to show in this format because I lean toward a “more is better” approach to the images that I choose.

I like to show images from MANY different weddings. This enables you to see lots of different couples, flowers, venues, lighting conditions, cakes, transportation, dresses, tuxes, times of day and night, decor, and many other things you might be trying to decide on as you also look for a wedding photographer, rather than just a few shots from categories I chose to show you.

I think this also gives you a better feel for what you’d see in wedding coverage if I were to shoot YOUR wedding.

Bill Murray and Trish - OnOn Digitography / Valentine Photo Booth

It was a GREAT YEAR for me and I want to just publicly write a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to EVERYONE who hired me to photograph some aspect of their life! Be it wedding, portrait, family, maternity, baby, commercial, architectural, fine art, glamor, pet, or engagement photography!

What I did below is a slide show of some of the events and people I had the pleasure of working with in 2011. Some of the engagement photos will be wedding photos in the 2012 year in review.

It’s been crazy busy this past year, and I’ve got a pretty full calendar of weddings already for 2012. I’m really looking forward to it.

Kelly and Josh were married at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, VA on November 19th, 2011! It’s always such a pleasure when you can “feel the love” between a couple even when they’re not in the same room with each other. That’s the vibe you get (if you have a radar like mine) when you’re around either of these two. Doing their wedding photography was a blast! Couple that with enthusiastic families and friends, an amazing venue like the Chrysler Museum, some slick up lighting, great music and decor, an AMAZINGLY fun Valentine Photo Booth , and all the ingredients are there for a barn burner of a wedding! (and that’s exactly what this one was!)

Kelly and Josh hired me after seeing my work for friends of theirs at another wedding I shot back in April (for Melanie and Kyle). I get A LOT of my bookings this way.

We also had our Valentine Photo Booth at this wedding! EVERYONE got in the booth at some point during the wedding.

BUT, they decided to renew their vows with a FULL SCALE wedding and reception at the Renaissance Hotel Portsmouth on December 17th, 2011! What a fantastic testimonial to their love and commitment! Originally, they were married with a simple ceremony because Coby was going to deploy rather quickly overseas in support of our war(s) in the middle east and he didn’t want anyone moving in on his chosen lady! (CUTE!!). So, after THREE tours “over there”, they celebrated their marriage IN STYLE!

I had a great time with all my “friends in the biz” at this wedding. Coordinator was Weddings By Michelle : Michelle Kilgore , Makeup by Faces by Rebecca Wood , flowers by Daevid’s of Norfolk , Music by Rodney Charles – Arch Entertainment and up lighting by Blue Steel Lighting. Nice job everyone!

I had the pleasure of shooting all of the Gymstrada Gymnastic team and individual photos recently here in Virginia Beach! What a great group of gymnasts! My assistant Georgeanna and I had to wrangle 101 EXTREMELY energetic and athletic young ladies and gentlemen for around 6 hours to get all of the required shoots done. I brought my portable studio setup right to Gymstrada and my pretty darn cool system of keeping track of everyone. (it’s quick, logical, and painless!).

I shot a TON of photos, but I put a slideshow together of each gymnast from the day in the collage memory mates that I used as a theme.

Tiffany and Kameron were married November 12th, 2011 at the Wyndham Virginia Beach Ocean Front Hotel! I liked this couple right from the get go. Just really easy going and fun! Tiffany was really excited about hiring me as her photographer, and I REALLY love when my clients are REALLY EXCITED about the choice they’ve made by trusting me with a once in a lifetime event. Kameron is just a cool breeze. He’s got all of the quiet confidence of a 6’10″ Major League Baseball pitcher. (probably because he’s a 6’10″ Major League Baseball pitcher (Arizona Diamondbacks to be precise)) They did all of their planning and coordination from Arizona. (and I’m completely comfortable with that, with many of my clients hiring me from finding my website. Sometimes I don’t meet a couple in person until their wedding day).

Photos were VERY important to Tiffany and Kameron, and varied locations were chosen to make sure we had LOTS of variety. All of the formal photos with the exception of family shots were taken BEFORE the actual wedding ceremony. We began shooting prep at the Wyndham. Then, we moved the whole bridal party to the Virginia Aquarium to work out in the marshes on the walkways and bridges. The bridal party went back to the hotel, then just the couple and I went to Owl Creek for a few shots, then on to the Old Cavalier Hotel for some more shots. It SOUNDS like all that would take A LOT of time. But, with precise planning and a tried and true game plan (which I think I am qualified to do, because I do it all the time) it worked FLAWLESSLY and we actually got back to the Wyndham well ahead of schedule. (I tell my clients “nobody ever has to wait on me, ever.” and I mean it.)

The wedding was awesome and the reception was a TRUE party! I don’t think anyone played wall flower at this one! It was a great experience and a LONG day, and MOST OF ALL…. Tiffany and Kameron LOVE their photos!

Maya & Matt’s Wedding Ceremony took place on Oct 22nd, 2011 at Christ & St. Luke’s Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Their Wedding Reception was held at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This was TRULY a MAGNIFICENT wedding. I’m SO thankful that Maya and Matt chose me to be their wedding photographer. In the 14-15 months that we’ve spent getting to know one another through their Beach Engagement Photo Session and through coordinating details about their wedding, I’ve come to know them pretty well. They’re two of the sweetest people I’ve had the pleasure to be around. Just a down to earth and genuinely NICE couple.

Christ & St. Luke’s Church is a JAW DROPPER. The church all by itself is pretty amazing, but Char’s Floral Designs took it right into “Fairy Tale Wedding” level with some beautiful work.

Blue Steel Lighting Design took Char’s Floral Designs up another few notches of “INCREDIBLE” at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art. It was mesmerizing.

Valentine Photo Booth REALLY took the fun meter up a BUNCH of pegs as well! The guests LOVED THE PHOTO BOOTH!

I did the photography for Kate and Brandon’s Contemporary Arts Center of Virginia Wedding on October 15th, 2011.

I know that I’ve written this before, but as a wedding photographer, this is one of my favorite places to shoot a wedding. There are SO MANY ways to photography this venue, and just a BUNCH of places within and around the Contemporary Arts Center to do some non time consuming creative photos.

Kate and Brandon are a fun couple! Their families and friends are great! There was never a shortage of interesting interactions to snipe.

I was the wedding photographer for Rosemary and Jay’s open air wedding which was held at Bay View Farm Bed and Breakfast in Bell Haven, Virginia (up there on the Eastern Shore of Virginia!). What an AWESOME place! I was talking with the owner who’s family has lived there since the house was built (in 1858!!!). What a cool history lesson. I think what stood out to me most from what he said was that “our house has been here longer than California has been a state. (now that’s a good long time!) It’s a great big majestic property with a drop dead gorgeous 2-300 yards of waterfront. AMAZING view.

Rosemary and Jay’s wedding was entirely outside. There was a large tent setup at the rear of the property where the dancing took place, but people just walked around outside and socialized for the most part. It was a laid back, quirky wedding with a very comfortable vintage feel to it. Cutting the tops of champagne bottles with a sword and shucking oysters to order was pretty darn cool.

The couple had done a dry run of their wedding formals with another wedding photographer in Winston Salem and didn’t want to repeat the process, so they could spend more time with family and friends. As always, I cater to my clients and do as they wish. It’s not about me, it’s about them. I’ll shoot it how they want me to shoot it every time. (I’m a wedding photographer, not a production designer / director) If the couple just wants me to do MY thing? Then it’s still pretty quick and painless. No wedding has ever had to wait for me to do my work.

Katie and Joel were married October 8th, 2011. Aqua Restaurant at Bay Creek Marina was the location for this wedding which took place just before sunset. The weather was gorgeous! It couldn’t have been more perfect. What was even cooler to me about this wedding is that I had been the wedding photographer for FOUR couples at this wedding! It was like a reunion!

I try to keep my little blog posts about my events as wedding photographer short and sweet. I’d rather show you through the pictures than bore you with words.

But, I’ve known Katie and Joel for a long time, and this wedding was very special to me in many ways. It was one I’ll never forget.
