Amor De Moda Brings Fashion to Detroit

Fashion and Detroit are rarely in the same sentence so it was to my delight to find out about a fashion show production in my city this summer. On June 30th Amor De Moda transformed Campus Martus Park into a huge fashion production shedding light on local fashion enthusiast and other talents in the city. After the show I caught up with Tenisha Hale, one of organizations founders and asked her 5 questions for the Billie McQueen Report.

1. What was the inspiration behind Amor De Fashion Show?

*Finding a way to bring a positive light back to the city of Detroit and we as a team couldn’t think of a better way of doing so than a fashion show! We also wanted to provide Detroit with a different look from the usual shows they have seen!

2. The show was a huge success! Take us through the creative process.

*Thank You! Being different was at the top of the list! We wanted to provide the city with an overall never before seen show! We could of had the typical runway stage, but we felt we needed to utilize the space we had, which is why we had the models walk around the entire park! Stepping outside the box and taking a risk on something we all believed in, helped us to present the city with an amazing show.

3. How do you feel the show impacted the city of Detroit and do you have plans on making this show an annual event?

*The overall goal was to bring a positive light back to the city as right now so many terrible things are going on! After the show, so many people that attended the show and others that were on the outside looking in, came to me with so many kind and inspiring words, which lead me to believe we lived up to our purpose. With that being said, we absolutely want to make this an annual event.

4. If you continue Amor De Fashion what are your expectations for next year?

*To get bigger and better! Taking everything from this year and amplifying it next year! We also hope that next year we are able to give to more than one charity/foundation.

5. If you could change anything about this years show what would it be and why?

*I wouldn’t change anything! It was a great experience, with many lessons learned throughout the journey! I met some great people and started some even greater relationships with people. I learned that everything happens for a reason and NOTHING, absolutely nothing is impossible when you have God on your side!

The fashion world is in a up-roar today about the end of YSL -Yves Saint Laurent. It has now been confirmed that YSL new creative director Hedi Slimane plans to change the name of the house to Saint Laurent Paris.

The famous fashion house will not only be undergoing a name change but a branding make-over as well that’s inspired by the 1966 ready-to-wear line under the name Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. The changes are being positioned by YSL as “restoring the house to its truth, purity and essence – and taking it into a new era” while “respecting the original principles and ideals,” according to the trade. The new branding is expected to be introduced by the time Slimane’s spring 2013 collections hit stores.
