There were 3000 cyclists joined the 7-Eleven Tour 700 Race for Charity Bayani sa Barangay fired off at Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga and in the spirit of Bayanihan, the winners of the their respective categories will get a chance to help their chosen barangay by donating bikes to the barangay. Competitive cylists were there as well as the non-competitive like me

It was my 2nd attempt to pedal the stretch of SCTEx and same as before, the weather was hot as forecasted the day before the event.

Biking at SCTEx was not pretty tough, pedaled at my average pace from Clark Expo to Porac Exit until I reached the finsh line. Happy and proud finisher of 40K MTB Category in 7-Eleven Tour 700.

Got the race results having Gun Start 01:25:53, Chip Time 01:44:06. Just wondered why I was in Wave N while I belong to Wave M.

This morning, I attended the Iberet Active Biking Clinic held at Bonifacio High Street activity center in Bonifacio Global City. The speaker was Coach Patrick Joson who is a certified triathlon coach and Multisport Philippines Editor-at-Large.

Here are the few points I learned from Coach Patrick:

Riding Position – He advised to adjust the seat height to get a knee angle of 25 to 35 degrees when the pedal is at its lowest point. In this case, leg would behave more like a spring.

Pedal power – Different muscles are activated at each stage of the pedalling cycle. He recommended us to use clipless shoes (special shoes for cycling) as it transfer all the power from your leg to the pedal. Without it, it would be easy to slip off the pedal.

Cadence – There’s no perfect cadence. It always depends on your fitness and terrain. He suggested to obtain a 70 to 80 revolutions per minute (RPM). For experienced cyclists, 90 RPM.

I would like to thank Multisport Philippines for giving us opportunity to attend their FREE clinics. I read the profile of Coach Patrick in Multisport 2011 Sourcebook, I bet he is an expensive coach!

Finally, got my 7-Eleven Tour 700 race kits. The race kits includes bib numbers, RFID Bike Tag and instructions, cardboard strip, helmet stickers, food stub and contact information sticker.

I carefully read the race mechanics and reminders attached to the envelope. In my case, I belong to Wave M so my race will start at 7am.

The Globe Cordillera Challenge 2012 featured 3 challenging stages to choose from according to biker’s riding skills. First stage were for “not so newbies”, the next were for advanced riders and the last stage were for hard core mountain bikers. I heard from the few that only 50% of the participants finished Stage 3. The event were participated by more than 250 bikers and supporters.

The assembly started by checking our bikes by the assigned crews of Globe, then waiver signing. The ride started as early as 6:20 from Burnham Park going to Sto Tomas, Tuba, Baguio.

I was able to see old and new folks of mountain bikers back in Manila and from North Luzon mountain bikers as I pedaled to Mount Kabuayo trail. Some photos posted here.

Last lenten season, I was invited by Kaye Beltran for a bike and to check out their newly bought and renovated hotel in Bacolor, Pampanga named King’s Royale. She asked me to review their hotel and its amenities.

Me together with Joyce del Socorro and Nilo Estayo went to Pampanga as we biked it all the way from Manila to Bacolor. We took McArthur Hiway stretch then, from McArthur Hiway, Brgy. Dolores intersection, we turned left to Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA), King’s Hotel is about 2 to 3 kilometers from the intersection.

As I recalled, we arrived almost 6:00 PM in the hotel, Kaye arranged our complimentary pass in King’s Royale while the crew and staff accommodated us and helped us bring our bikes in stockroom.

Nilo bailed out in the middle of the ride for the training for Le Tour de Filipinas in Pangasinan. When we arrived in the hotel, he was in Paniqui already. What a leg power!

It was around 9:00pm when Kaye left the hotel. She told us that she will be the one to check us out. This is the last photo of her before she left.

The next day, we waited for Kaye. Called and texted her but she seemed not to be found. I approached the front desk if Kaye left instructions for us. The front desk officer told me none except the instructions given by Mr. Michael Beltran, King’s Royale Hotel General Manager and brother of Kaye Beltran, that we have to pay our hotel accommodation amounting Php1,980.00. I was surprised and upset but I stayed calm.

Joyce knew little Kapangpangan words and she told me privately that the crews and staffs were talking as if we are not paying our accommodation and all. I remained calm as I went outside to look for the nearest bank to withdraw cash. I paid them in cash and gave additional Php500.00 tip for the front desk.

Until now, I haven’t heard a word from her. I was able to call her younger brother and he told me Kaye was out of the country, other said she was in a Rehab Facility in Pasig.

To all our friends, please help me find her. I just need to talk to her because aside from the bad experience I had back at King’s Royale Hotel, I have separate issues with her regarding the money she owed me and the unpaid web hosting services for http://skewersgrill.ph
