Global information and communications technology solutions provider Huawei Technologies Philippines, Inc. supports the Global Filipino Schools Program of Globe Telecom, Inc. and Ayala Foundation, Inc. as it turns over 100 laptops for use of public elementary schools under the program.

While Globe provides internet access to both teachers and students in GFS schools, additional devices such as the donated laptops are needed to allow more students to explore the internet and learn applications which are critical in ushering 21st century learning in public schools.

“It is Huawei’s commitment to bridge the digital divide where everyone can link up and openly collaborate. At the same time, we continue to work with our customers and partners like Globe to build a better connected world. Through this donation, we hope to give an opportunity to teachers and students in different parts of the Philippines to enjoy high-quality educational materials right at their fingertips,” said Jacky Gao, Huawei Philippines Chief Executive Officer.

Fernando Esguerra, Globe Director for Citizenship said: “Globe believes in the power of technology to forward 21st century learning in public schools nationwide. We want to improve the digital skills among the teachers and students particularly in using technology and computer software, thus, this donation from Huawei would be of great help in increasing student engagement in the classroom and in enabling them to develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.”

There are currently 20 public schools across the country which have been transformed into GFS centers of excellence even as Globe continues to forge partnerships with the regional offices of the Department of Education to scale the program and cover all 221 school divisions nationwide within a five-year period. So far, GFS has benefited 41,038 students and 7,227 public school teachers who have been trained as Global Filipino Teachers.

AFI serves as the implementing arm of Globe this year for eight schools under GFS which include the beneficiaries of the donation such as Sta. Cruz Elementary School in Albay and Center of Excellence in Public Elementary Education (CENTEX) Batangas, among others.

“We wish to thank Globe and Huawei for this valuable partnership which will enable us to serve more young people through various tools and techniques. Technology is indeed a great enabler and with these gifts from Huawei, more young minds will enjoy the wonders of information and creative learning,” said Ruel Maranan, President of AFI.

Aside from providing support to the education advocacy of Globe, Huawei also adopted the latter’s Project 1 Phone electronic waste recovery and recycling program that aims to recover e-wastes from mobile phones and portable devices to promote proper disposal. Proceeds of P1P will also help build more Global Filipinos Schools across the Philippines.

Huawei has already turned over to Globe approximately 2000 kilograms of assorted e-wastes coming from old and decommissioned corporate assets and personal donations from employees since January this year.

Dear Mama,

Today, I simply thought how bad I was missing you. Before I went to bed, I remembered how I waited for you to wake up and tell me of your adventures in dreamland. I never imagined that it would be the last of my simple moments with you. I never stop thinking how life would have been if you were still here with us. Laughing at my ridiculous jokes and sharing stories that was once a journey of sorrow and misery. Many things have changed since you left us, Ma. But I am proud to know that some remain unchanged.

I would always wonder about you and and what would your be reactions with some of my decisions if you were here. My life has become a topsy-turvy of inventions that are somewhat based on trial and errors. As I have told my friends, the pain minimizes over time but the love is still, even heightened and exaggerated at times. I know I will see you soon. But right now, be with us and guide us every step of the way. I am working in a big company now. And most of the time, I feel small. How come you never told me to quit?

Love-love and toto has been really strong in keeping faith with the Lord. As what most self help books tell me, God, in his infinite wisdom and kindness will always allow a manifestation or sign to come down from heaven and assure us that you are just around and looking after us all the time. We were once a complete family. Now, we are little by little picking up the fragments that was broken when you left. And God has been really good in making sure that no piece will be left out.

I hope that in heaven, you are proud of what I have become, how I am continuously growing and hopefully become the person you wanted me to be in the hope of your loss. You leaving us has changed us in immeasurable ways I can never imagine. But in losing you, I found the courage to be brave. I have found myself and what I should be. Your life still continues to inspire me to do good. One day, when we can finally see each other, hopefully I can see you smile and tell me that you were never wrong to raise me the way you wanted.

It’s funny that the pain of losing you never really goes away. The longing and the missing would sometimes grow stronger and at times crush my spirit. But with prayers and faithful friends, I come to learn how to handle it better through the years and continue moving forward with the memories that we once shared. I miss you everyday, and more on days that define my existence.

By the way, I met someone. Funny, sweet and even unpredictable at times. Though this may be temporary, I wish for it to last long enough for me to show the love I can give to a person. I have high hopes. And I hope this one does too.

I love you,

Pogs

The Tale of Joy and Pain

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Joy who went to school in the land of neverland. She met a boy named Pain who showed her how fun life can be. Joy graduated school and became a woman of wisdom. Years later, Pain saw Joy and they became good friends. As the days go by, Pain started to show demonstrative warmth for Joy. Since Joy was new to the feeling Pain was showing her, she protected herself and went away. Years later after a lot of years later, Joy saw Pain again. They again became good friends and Joy realized she likes Pain. Joy makes the effort to reach out, blames herself
for missing the chance when she had it in her hands. Joy and Pain became sweet towards each other. Then, Pain introduced Suffering to Joy. Pain and Suffering are almost together without the legal bond but they never confirmed what is happening between the them. Joy is still enthusiastic and hopeful. Joy and Pain is sweet with each other, but they are just friends, Pain and Suffering is sweet with each other, so basically, they must be friends too. Suddenly, a sweet song comes to life “Love makes no promises, nothing I can do, I’m letting go of you. And If you have never been inlove, It makes no promises”. They all lived happily ever after.
—————————————————————————————————————————-

Yesterday was quite a blast. I went to the gym even though I felt like I needed to gain weight and not the other way around. However, being alone and working the sweat out of yourself is a nice oppurtunity to think.

I have realized a certain fact: If you don’t want to fall inlove with somebody, don’t ever sleep with him/her. Basically, sex releases feel good hormones Dopamine in excessive amounts. The process also releases Oxytocin, a hormone found to be responsible for being too attracted and attached to that same person you are sleeping with. So, the more you have sex, the more you’ll fall in love.

But if you want that person to fall for you, I must suggest seduction. Its a remedy that never fails.

Going back to to what happened yesterday, I worked my calories out, went home and slept. When I woke up, the same bugging feeling is staying deep in me. Then I read Mrs Kimble. A story about a man who had three wives. It wasn’t his fault he was attractive and charming. His wives were to be blamed. In conclusion, the book tells us that we choose what reaction we ought to feel in what ever situation we are into to. However, if we close our doors to possibilities, no matter how obvious and promising an instance may be, there will always be excuses why it will never work.

I am confused with my points.

The “It” in my previous sentences depict human relationship which is more important than any other type liaisons.

Before I went to gym, I ate at a restaurant with a common friend. I read her tarot and we had a little interesting discussion.

Let’s begin to tackle Sadism. As defined by my ever beloved admirer and confidant Merriam Webster, Sadism is s the derivation of pleasure as a result of inflicting pain or watching pain inflicted on others. It is in this context that I wish to apologize to sensitive readers if there is any. Sadism is a strong word that I would like to prefer to Aggression. Aggression, is the act of initiating hostilities or invasion. The practice or habit of launching attacks.

Now how on earth is this related to Logic? As what the tarots have mentioned, there is Sadism and Aggression that is happening in the atmosphere. In a broader sense, it may not be literal attack of idea. It may be sadism or inflicting pain to oneself in order to achieve the aspirated emotion we want to equip ourselves. Or it may be emotional aggression to tackle the most sensitive issues we have buried deep down that battered brain we have. This may vary through our actions. Being blind to the truth and having personal biases is a form of aggression. We do not want to feel the pain and in result, we digress ourselves from reality and create our own logic of opinion.

I am sadistic myself. I am aggressive (which is different from aggression)
I tend to take charge on what to believe, what to do and what to achieve but always ending up different from what I expected. Why? Because I have the propensity to preconceived notions resulting to more self inflicting pain. Freud suggested that if we want to avoid sadism and aggression, open communication is much needed.

Yes, Pain is beautiful but only when one can arise from its depressing powers.

Be steep.

Its fine to be Shock, to experience disbelief, to be in denial, to feel anger and take bargains and love depression if its the only way for acceptance to come.

I am way loving life too much. Its fun to be active, young and independent.
I love my work, my new and old friends.

So is there any space for sadism and aggression?
Nah..I don’t think so.

The SM Group through SM Cares turn over houses in Northern Iloilo that marked the company’s second leg in the housing project for survivors of super typhoon Yolanda

The project will also roll out in other areas in the Visayas such as in Tacloban City and Ormoc City, Leyte. The first SM Cares Village were turned over in Bogo City, Cebu.

Ms. Annie Garcia, SM Supermalls President, Ms. Marissa Fernan, SM Prime Holdings Inc., Vice President and Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. led the ground breaking ceremony of the SM Cares Housing Project in Brgy. Bacjauan Sur in Concepcion, Iloilo on October 3, 2015. Joining them were Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, SM Foundation’s Linda Atayde and officials of the Municipality of Concepcion led by Mayor Millard Villanueva as well as Monsignor Meliton Oso of the Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center, who will be in-charge of the soft components of the project.

This project is in cooperation with the family of Roberto and Gloria Lorca Tirol and was represented by by Jose Roberto Tirol, who donated a 1- hectare property to the SM Group as a show of support for the project. The company built a village of 200 houses in the donated lot in Concepcion, Iloilo.

The SM Cares Housing Project is over and above the SM Group’s P100 million commitment for various assistance to communities affected by typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas. The SM Group’s efforts include immediate relief operations, building of housing communities, rehabilitation of schools, churches, hospitals and community centers, and providing medical missions.

Each house, which costs P200,000, was built with concrete roofing, high ceiling, proper ventilation and utility-ready provision. The village will have 5-meter wide road network, a concrete perimeter fence, a community center and a basketball court.

SM Cares serves as the holistic and cohesive flagship of the group’s CSR programs. The goal is to ensure that SM serves not only as the retail industry leader, but also acts as a catalyst towards positive change in the nation and leading by example when it comes to corporate social responsibility.

After my epic paranoia, I decided to move on and get a life. It will always be counter productive looking backwards and relieving every failure we have made. Believe me, I’ve learned that the hard way. Moving forward, I am now more optimistic of whatever problems life will give me. Be it Justin Bieber going bald, or Manny Pacquiao becoming the President of the Philippines, I’ll keep my sanity for more special reasons.

Supporting my positive outlook, a friend of mine posted a note on my bulletin board about some guideposts in life to help me remember my new found enthusiasm.

Be kind to yourself. You deserve it. Above all else, no one can give you enough kindness but you yourself. Grab an ice cream, be a kid, laugh all you want, everyone would agree that the best things in life are free. So why would you deprive yourself of that?

Looking good is feeling good. It will always be nice to once in a while remind yourself how beautiful you are. As a product of God’s love, you are as amazing as the people you look up to. Dress up. Do things that will make you look and feel good. Without even knowing, the people around you will start to see the beauty you see in the mirror.

You are not out to please everybody. As long as you do not hurt or inconvenience other people, do the things that makes you happy. People will always have the opinion about you and what you do. Always remember that the people who loves you will always accept and understand the things you do and why you do them.

Expect little, but do your best and dream big. Giving your 100% may not always mean success nor acknowledgement. When you expect less from what you think you deserve, life might just be joyously surprising. Trust me, I know.

Smile a lot. It’s healthy. There is no bad smiling. Even kids with no front tooth looks better when they give their biggest grin. If things go wrong, smile. You can’t do much with a muscular frowning face. Giving that blank face a simple smile makes a heavy heart lighter and a sad face brighter.

Laugh your heart out. Be silly once in a while. Everyone will always have a kid inside them hiding in the shadows of demands and pressures.. Laugh at small things, smile even if you do not have a reason to, be a kid even just for a while. A happy heart makes a happy person.

Live light and keep it simple. I always envy my sister for living light and simple. She buys clothes from a local store never minding the brand. She collects memories and never have second thoughts what people might say about her. And most of the time, she looks and feels good without even trying. Her secret: she doesn’t hold heavy things locked up. Maybe that is something we can try to do.

Failure is a good starting point. There is no such thing as failure, only experience. CEO’s and successful businessman are people who failed a lot. But this made them strive more and achieve better. Just never give up.

You are blessed. Don’t forget to say thanks. Even if things don’t turn out the way you want them to be, you are still fortunate for having the chance to wake up and experience every little thing you are blessed with. You are more privileged than those who might not have the chance to make it through the day. Make it a habit to appreciate the morning sun. Give thanks.

Have faith. God answers our prayers. Whether it may be now, later or tomorrow, God answers our prayers. It is not a moment too early or a second too late. Just keep your faith and hold on.

Day by day, life continually changes and reveals another page to live through. It may be a chapter of tears, or a story of success. Life might be frightening, sometimes, it’s surprising, but most of the time, it passes by without you realizing the change it brought about.

I’ve had my share of griefs and sorrows. I’ve been hurt and experienced pain. But above all that, this has made me human. Somewhat, it makes me happy.

For exhibiting excellence in advocacy programs and internal communications initiatives, Globe Telecom earned citations from local marketing luminaries as it captured multiple accolades across various platforms at the recently-held 2015 PANAta Marketing Effectiveness Awards.

Among 59 awardees and top Philippine companies with multiple wins, the No. 1 mobile brand in the country captured distinctions in all of the categories it entered into. These include advocacy marketing as well as brand and internal communications.

“To be bestowed with these PANAta awards is an affirmation from local advertising industry stalwarts that our advocacies and communication programs transcend their purpose. They can serve as effective marketing tools to deliver a ‘Globe of good’ to a wider public as we continue to be a model corporate citizen of the Philippines,” said Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto.

Globe received an award for its Project 1 Phone, the far-reaching corporate social responsibility (CSR) program which encouraged customers of the telco as well as its enterprise ICT segment Globe Business to take part in a wide-scale electronic waste (e-waste) recycling movement. The idea of donating old mobile phone units into useful materials for building schools in Aklan resonated well among stakeholders and concretized the concept of a viable environmental sustainability drive.

With over 50 enterprise clients pitching-in, Project 1 Phone has helped reduce greenhouse gases by about 207 million kilograms. Online, the promotional video material has so far garnered more than 471,000 YouTube views, while total digital efforts accounted for 37.2 million impressions. Most importantly, the proceeds have reached more than US$ 189,000 or P8 million for the construction of Aklan-based schools.

Globe also won an award for its #ProjectWonderful integrated corporate campaign. It sparked genuine customer centricity and innate care for its customers, especially for Typhoon Haiyan survivors as the telco’s response to nation-building in the aftermath of the calamity. It contributed to donation and fund-generation as well as triggered volunteerism to build 100 homes in Leyte and Aklan. Media mileage also reached more than US$ 2 million from the PR executions’ global buzz online brought about by American actor Gabriel Macht’s involvement, and also through traditional broadcast channels. #ProjectWonderful also redounded on the telco’s business by positively affecting its financial performance during the campaign period.

Another advocacy winner was the Globe #StopSpam campaign for effectively combating unsolicited text messages. This was made possible through an integrated marketing communications plan using news and public affairs as catalyst for the movement. It banked on the strength of current affairs platforms on TV to launch and deliver credibility. After making rounds in social media and picked up by traditional outfits as well as online sites, #StopSpam generated an enormous 50 million Twitter impressions from almost 10,500 mentions in 2014. It also helped the telco to block over 2 million spam and scam messages, ultimately benefiting its 2-million plus postpaid customers.

Rounding up the wins for Globe was its CSR pillar “Give,” which promotes active citizenship through volunteerism by engaging employees to share their time, talent and treasure. It involved major campaigns to encourage involvement in volunteering and “volun-teaming” hubs, the “Cordi Challenge 6” bike event for the re-greening of the Cordilleras, Brigada Eskwela for education, and pledging for the Earth Hour/Earth Month, among others.

Distinguishing brand communications that strengthen and build business on top of espousing core PANA values, the PANAta Marketing Effectiveness Awards saw the participation of advertisers, advertising agencies, media agencies, advertising suppliers, academe, government agencies and non-government organizations. The only local telecommunications company recognized by the esteemed advertising body this year, Globe has also been an active member of PANA as a responsible advertiser, adhering to strict and ethical standards of practice in Philippine advertising.
