Finally, Some "After" Pics

That title might be a tad misleading, but this is where we're at with the room.

We used everything we already had for the big stuff, but used the wall color Great Barrington Green. It's a Benjamin Moore color, but I got it color matched to Lowes Olympic. We love it. It's kind of the perfect combination for us. It makes the room moody, but it also gives the room a totally new look.

We still have some picture to hang, hence the frames leaning against the night stand.

The part above the bed is kind of leaving me...wanting more. I don't even think that's what I'm feeling. It's just weird. I want to cover up that stupid door so bad, but I don't want the wall to feel crazy above our bed. So here's the layout I'm thinking. Just move this layout right above my bed, and that's what's in my head.

Hopefully that'll get done this week...hopefully.

But so far, this is where we are, and we're seriously loving it.

On a real note, we're praying hard in this house for the city of Boston, the families of the victims, and all the law enforcement and first responders. It's a terrible thing when people can't enjoy time with their family and make memories without the fear of tragedy.

The Everlasting Hallway

I feel like there are three things I've talked about on the blog this year:

Moving.

The bathroom reno.

The biggest hallway in the southeast. {I'm kind of dramatic sometimes.}

So, instead of giving you a new topic today, I'm going to talk, yet again, about our glorious hallway! Do you love me yet? I hope so, or you're probably moving your mouse to click out of here.

So this is what we started with:

The honey mustard and ketchup walls are now extinct in this home and they now have the Urbane Bronze we debated over.

Yes, it's a pretty crappy picture taken on my phone, but it's so good in real life.

{I would go take a picture right now, but it's dark and I'm pretty sure it would be no better now that this one.}

I've been on the hunt for collected old art, console table that's a bagillion feet long, etc. And the main thing J wants is something to cover the windows. So let's add that to the list. We talked about shades or blinds, but I just don't like the idea of having to cover those windows all the time, or drilling into anymore trim than we have to in a rental.

Then I remembered a picture I saw in ?Southern Living? recently that I loved and they had curtains in the entry...

DING, DING, DING!

SOLD.

J's on board, I'm on board, now we just have to find something we like...

Way easier said than done, people.

I'm actually embarassed to tell you how many different fabrics I've almost ordered and how many different directions I went. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw a few, most recent was this one.

Richloom Whippoorwill Sepia

I do still really like it. Maybe it'll end up a pillow...or a chair seat...who knows, but I'm keeping this baby in my brain.

I thought about getting some of those trusty Ikea curtains that everybody and their momma loves {me included} and dying them emerald green, like so

I am aware those are super nice curtain, but I'm pretty sure I could've gotten the look.

But this past weekend, while in the fabric store {AKA: what my daughter thinks is a toy store} I stopped dead in my tracks when I ran into this beauty.

It's gorge, folks. I'm telling ya, it's some big 'ol blooms, with some big 'ol attitude and I'm obsessed. Thank goodness for Mom and her sewing machine!

My Moving Train

Well hi.

So, it's been a while, huh!?

Ya know when everything is moving so fast, and you don't know how to fit in one more thing without losing it?

Yeah, that's been me the past 2 months...wow, it's been 2 months!

So this blog and the whole big blog world have felt like a fast paced moving train that I just can't find the right time to jump on.

Hopefully me just sitting down to write this post was all I needed to get back into it. I've missed this little place like crazy and I really want to start back. Maybe not 5 days a week, but I'm going to shoot for 3...or 2. Just don't hold me to it. I want to be more about substance and what's going on in our home and in the B&B Shop.

I know we all love the pretty-pretty pictures, but that's what Pinterest is for, right?!

I can't wait to share our new home with yall! It already feels like home and we don't even really have any pictures hung, rooms full, or windows covered, but we're getting there.

I've been posting snippets on Instagram, but I'm going to get some real-deal pictures of this place soon!

We've been having a lot of fun out here in the country, and just enjoying all our new found family time.

New Homestead: Bathroom Progress

While we were painting this weekend, my Dad and brother were hard working on the bathroom. These are some progress pictures. I forgot to take one of the ceiling now that they fixed it as well, but you get the idea. Just to remind you what we're working with and where we want to end up, here's a list of everything we wanted to get done from the beginning:

{1} ~~Remove the shower & door and install a shower/tub unit.~~

{2} ~~Remove the extra shower head (weird).~~

{3} Replace linoleum flooring since it's bad anyway, with tile.

{4} ~~Replace toilet seat.~~

{5} Remove towel bar and possibly replace with ring? or just new towel bar.

{6} Try to salvage and paint existing mirror. We're not sure this is going to work, but want to try first.

{7} ~~Replace yellowed vanity top and budget faucet.~~

{8} Paint vanity and possibly replace hardware.

Not shown:

{9} ~~Cover ceiling with bead-board.~~

I know a few of you are going to love the wide planked green ceiling, but I need you to trust me here. This bathroom used to be a porch, so the ceiling is not exactly...."energy efficient". To put it nicely, there are cracks between the slats and a bunch of cob webs, and I just can't be have'n that. mK?

This is a HUGE improvement from where we started.

When we decide what color we're painting the bathroom the tongue and grove will be painted the same color. We're going to leave the beam exposed, and the ceiling will be white, exciting I know.

No, I wasn't drinking when I took this picture, the wall is just slanted. Remember this bathroom started off as a porch, so there were quite a few corrections to be made on a budget.

It's light, and white, and it gives us a new clean slate.

The tile guys are coming on Friday, and hopefully I'll be painting the vanity on Saturday afternoon! {fingers crossed on this one, I really don't know how long it's going to take.}

Here is the direction we {I} hope to start heading once the tile is done.

I'm not getting dark tile, but I am going to paint the vanity Urbane Bronze, so it will have this feel in the room.

For the shelves to the right of the tub, I want to do something pretty and inviting.

Love this for towels against the wall to the left of the shower.

Color Decisions

Hey you loves!

Thanks so much for all your input on Wednesday! We got the paint colors done and on the walls (mostly) and they look amazing. I think so, and J thinks so. That's all that matters, right?!

Here we go! Ok, so the four choices that were up for discussion on Wednesday were:

Hallway: Urbane Bronze OR Mombasa Mist

Master Bedroom: Some shade of white OR Great Barrington Green

Living Room: Another white shade OR a deeper shade {and what?}

Kitchen: Dining Room color OR whatever?

We ended up going with Urbane Bronze in the hallway.

I asked them to mix it, then I asked them to add a little more white than the formula called for. The lady at Lowes really loved me...

Then here she is with my rug!

Pumped.

I couldn't wait 'til we moved. I had to lay it down and have that instant gratification, ya know?

I don't have a picture of our bedroom (by accident), but we went with Great Barrington Green.

And yes, we love it. It's so manly, but it's going to be so good to sleep in.

Next up, the living room.

I kind of winged it with this one, but thankfully it tuned out exactly like I hoped it would. Trust me, this does not happen often, so yes, I am bragging about it this time!

I went with Crisp Linen (I think it's an Allen + Roth Valspar color).

As for the kitchen, we didn't get to it, but we're going to go with the color we have in our dining room now:

I thought about waiting to show you real pictures (not regurgitated ones from Instagram , and drawing it out. Then I decided, why not show you each step as I get it done.

Because really who has the patience to wait around for a final product when that might not happen for a while.

Paint Panic

I've waited until the last minute to make decisions on paint colors.

Imagine that.

But I really want to have our walls painted before we move in. I really want to have time for those fumes to leave before I plant my daughter in one of those rooms. Plus it's just a pain to move all the furniture out from the wall and cover it...and ask a toddler not to touch.

Anywho. I have to have these colors picked by Friday morning.

I've already decided on G's room and the guest bedroom, but I NEED your help for the rest of the house!

Do you have suggestions or colors you swear by?!

Next up, the living room.

This is the color we have now. It's a greenish-blue that changes with the light and the time of day. It was a custom color we made at Sherwin Williams. We still love it, and I'm using it in the dining room, but I'm not sure I want to use it in the living room.

I have two very clear ideas. But I only have one living room.

Last is the Kitchen.

I want it to blend with the other colors well, but I don't think I want the exact same color. The dining room is right off the kitchen, which will look like this

And the hallway and living room are through the other door, and well...you have to help me pick those colors, so help a sister out. What would you put in the middle of all those for the kitchen?

However, I do love-love Jessie's kitchen, and that color is pretty close to the dining room color. And I think it would go pretty great with the hallway gray.

So...since I need these so quick I'm going to help ya out on what I need.

In All Her Glory

Hi all! Hope yall are having a good Tuesday.

Hey, thanks for listening to my little bathroom story yesterday. Things are definitely moving in the right direction. I'll give you a whole post on our plans & the inspiration soon. Here is the only picture from the work this past weekend.

Hey. It's bright white. It's new. It's clean.

Best of all it's aesthetically pleasing.

Check. check. check. AND check!

But there will be more from this weekend. As in, there will be paint swatches on the walls (hopefully in every room) and hopefully everything in the bathroom (besides the paint and flooring) will be done.

Fingers crossed and champagne waiting!

So a Bathroom Happened

Thank goodness I had already finished my post about secretary desks on Thursday. Friday might not have happened otherwise.

So here is the full story. It might as well happen today, because that's been the main {if not only} issue with this house. Ready? K.

J went to look at this rental home by himself {I had to work, yada-yada} and fell in love. Like, he called me and said, "It's perfect. It's PERfect. It's PERFECT!"

Seriously. Coming from the guy that never really get's "excited" about much, I knew it must be good.

And it is, but when he told me about the one bathroom {which isn't ideal to start with}, he said it was totally doable and would be fine.

Wrong.

I cried.

Actual tears came out of my eyes when I saw the bathroom/laundry room situation.

Trust me, this was not a reaction I was expecting out of myself, and I completely realize how blessed we are to have a bathroom {compared to other parts of the world}, but it just happened, ok?!

I later heard him admit to one of his buddies that it would've been a nice bathroom for a hunting camp.

.........really?........

I didn't know whether to be happy he agreed with me or annoyed he thought this was "perfect".

Anywho, fast forward through a bunch of hemming and hawing and the landlord is paying for a bathroom remodel as long as we provide the labor.

DONE!

So since it's our only bathroom we have to get it done before we move in...sometime this month. Oh and did I mention it's almost an hour and a half from where we live now? But Thursday afternoon about 1:00, my Mom sends me a text:

So yeah. I had to find a tub and the surrounds, the shower/faucet, vanity top, and sink faucet all in less than 20 hours. That junk is hard! But we did it! And I'm just SO blessed that my Dad is a custom home builder. He's incredible! Not to mention Uncle Jim, too ;) ! And the hubs for chipping in as well. Seriously, I have some great guys in my life.

This is the bathroom originally. Now, I know what you're thinking. It really doesn't look bad. And I completely agree. But the details that bother me are the ones you can't really see in the picture.
Other than the double shower heads...you can see that. And I know that's sometimes only in luxurious bathrooms, but that's not the case.

Here is the vanity. The base is definitely workable, but we're replacing the top and the faucet.

And see the laundry in there? The floor is pretty slanted, so that will end up being fixed as well.

But I'm really REALLY excited to get to make this bathroom ours! Am I going to do everything just how I would want it? No. But this will give us a great, new, clean slate to work with and that's all a girl can ask for in a rental home, right?!

I still need to decide on some colors besides white because it's right off the living room. As in, you see it right when you walk in the living room.
{And yep, I'm aware that our living room looks like a pool hall with maroon plywood floors. I've already got that sorted out too!}

I'm sure my Mom would like me to note that she was taking measurements, not using the bathroom.

And then again when you'll be sitting down in the living room.

I'm pretty sure the vanity base color, but not the walls...oddly enough. I feel like that might be backwards, but oh well. Lots and lots of progress was made this weekend.

I Need a Secretary

I'm sure you're thinking, "What the heck could she possibly need a secretary for?" And then I was going to write some corny joke about administrative assistants...Like I had it all typed out and thought better of it.

It was a really bad joke. Not bad as in, dirty, bad as in, "Wow, that was akward. Probably won't be reading this blog again..."

Moving on.

I'm obsessed with secretaries, the furniture. I think it would be the perfect piece inside our new entry of our new home!

{And I promise to show you the actual home soon, probably Monday.}

We will always use the back door, so I figure a nicer piece in the front would be perfect-o.

So of course I took to craigslist, because duh. But are you kidding me?! The cheapest secretary I've found was $300.

What?

Yes.

So, I will be looking in thrift stores all across the land so I can own one of these babies.

And although I wasn't exactly thinking of using it as a bar, I guess that would be a nice way to welcome your guest

It's Definitely a New Year

Well, Happy New Year, you loves!

I hope you had a great one and spent it with the people that matter most. I know I sure did...with no make up, no sparkly dress, and no high heels. Just playing beauty shop with my best girl while J worked his last night ever as a police officer. Praise Jesus he made it out safely and although there were some very difficult moments, he was never harmed while on duty.

All that to say, he's moving on. He applied for his dream job and GOT IT!

So we're packing it all up and moving. Still in SC just to a different area. An area that I'm pretty sure I will be the only one with Ikat or high gloss furniture in my home, but it's the hand God gave us and we are so excited about it!

It's going to be so good for our family, and our projects, and our life. All the details of this move have been placed in front of us so beautifully, to the point we're 110% sure this is the exact path the Lord has us on. Every.single.detail, people! It's insane how much He loves us.

So, between Christmas, and THIS, I've been a bit distracted from blogging lately, and didn't really know how to blog without spilling it!

So without meaning to, I'm going to have a whole freaking boo-koodle of home projects for this new year!!!

Christmas Stuffs

Yeah, so I meant to give yall a heads up before I took an almost 2 week break from blogging.

Sorry, loves. I've actually got quite a few things to blog about, but I just haven't had time yet.

G's been sick...and I hate every second of it. Other than her just wanting to snuggle none stop. Like as in we snuggled for about 2 1/2 Saturday morning. It was incredible. We watched Nemo, and became total couch potatoes together. {Then she turned into crazy child Monday and Tuesday and ONLY wanted Daddy...figures.}

It's also our super busy time at my grown up job {Firehouse Conference Center}.

BUT, I did have the Trunk Show and it was great! It was just nice to get a few things out there we'd been making and get a positive feedback! So now I can share with yall!

I'll post pictures of the actual show next week, but for anybody still Christmas shopping or decorating I wanted to get these to your peepers!

My Dye Job

A few months ago, {I know, bad blogger}, we decided to change up the bedroom just a tad. Nothing major, I just added a few pictures and a set of antlers the hub's side and my sweet little find to my side.

It wasn't enough...when is it ever?

Other bloggers, I know you feel me. Otherwise we'd all run out of projects to blog about.

Word.

We {I} like the feel of the deep moody bedrooms. I used to love the all white and light for the bedroom, but let's be honest, we all like a little mood.

That being said, a little over a month ago, the hubs and I were talking about how we liked our white bedding, but it was just too hard to keep clean...

Now, we are not dirty people.

But our white quilt might say otherwise. No judging. This is my circle of trust.

We actually have a really nice quilt we got from Pottery Barn off our registry when we were engaged. I didn't want to get rid of it, nor did we want to spend the money for a new one when this one functions perfectly fine.

Enter Rit Dye!

One more side note: Yes we tried bleach. Again, we aren't dirty people, but I guess we're a little dirty.

I used the Rit Dye Color Formula Guide to find how to make a charcoal color {black, duh}.

Just a little tip, a king size quilt will take at least 3 full bottles of black to get a charcoal color...at LEAST!

Turn your washer to the largest load and the hottest temperature.

As the water is filling the washer, pour your dye in then so the H20 is well agitated.

Don't worry, as soon as your done, you just run another cycle on cold and your washer is fine. I've added bleach before and it just makes it feel that much cleaner, but not really necessary.

Sorry I didn't start taking pictures until AFTER I realized I needed more than one bottle to do the job, so yes my quilt is already kind of gray.

Submerge it all the way. For dark colors, and large amounts of fabric, I found out it helps if you can let it sit for a little while.

From there on out, just follow the rest of the directions on the box.

...Extend the wash, yada, yada, yada...

Dry that baby, and Voila!

And, I just got to the end of this post and realized I didn't have a current picture of our bedroom...

Again, bad blogger...I'm sorry.

I'll go work on that right now.

First, yall are so stink'n sweet for all the comments yesterday!

We love those pictures and are so happy we have them.

Second, if you do follow me on Instagram you saw ~~too many~~ a bunch of sneaky peaks of things we were busy making this weekend.

One of the pictures I took was of a cluster of picture ... plaques? / frames? I still haven't decided exactly what to name them, but here they are!

These are reclaimed pine wood, refinished and painted. I've added a piece of 5x7 acrylic to the front with different hardware for each design. The frames shown all hold a 4x6 picture, but custom sizes can be made. Also, colors and combinations can be custom ordered.

I'm so happy with the way this idea turned out. I have seen variations of this, but nothing that suited me and my taste. I hope yall love these too!

I haven't gotten them all photographed for the Shop yet, but I will be taking orders on Black Friday & Small Business Saturday! I hope yall will check them out, along with some other new goodies!

Two weeks ago I was bouncing around town with me Moms, as one does, and of course we stopped at every yard sale or junk store we saw.

And lookie-lou what we found!

Totally went in for a simple wooden chair and came out with a pullout couch.

Mid-century modern shape with some vintage pink and orange flowers, YES PLEASE!

Georgia's big girl room is will be awesome.

It's in great condition, been in a church hallway for years, and the ONLY thing wrong is the far left corner of the arm is rubbed off because that was the side with a table.

My solution?

It's going in a toddlers room and I'll toss a throw over it...done.

Would you kill me if I told you this thing is seriously in perfect condition and only cost me..........

The only bad news is that we have no room for it in our home, so my parents are housing it for now. I have so many "Future B&B" furniture projects there I'm pretty sure my dear sweet Dad is going to start charging me storage unit rent.

So, can I just say sorry about the silence...yet again?

We've been gearing up for Holiday season at work and it's been good busy.

I've also been busy busy on the B&B side of things, but more on that very soon!

I wasn't too busy, however, to dream up a few outfits for Anna that she is sharing on her blog today.

Believe me when I say I am no Polyvore expert, but I do love me some fashion...so much so I had to do a dressy outfit & a casual outfit. Because one just isn't enough, obvi!

I had a little happy moment the other day.

I kept it to myself...well, until now.

I'm sure you've seen Naomi's blog, or at least the pictures on Pinterest, of a living room she recently designed.

It's the bomb.

There's nothing I would change! I just love it.

Ok, so I'll get to my point now. You see that little brass bird to the left in that last picture?

Yeah, THOSE brass birds. They're incredible. And even more amazing in real life.

How do I know?!

Well 2 weeks ago I found TWO pair of them for the Bird & Branch Shop!

That's right folks. I found a small pair and a large pair, and they're both equally awesome.

I mean, Naomi and I might as well be BFF.

That little picture might give me something to do with my new found love for glossy enamel paint and this lady getting a makeover.

And just for the record, a long time ago, I said I had new hardware on the way...I lied. Not purposefully. I had them in my online cart and then forgot to order.

Then I never remembered, ever again. {Good grief, Vincent, get it together.}

It kind of worked out though, because the ones I were looking at might have been a little much all on one piece.

Now I'm just thinking something a little more simple and classic to offset the high gloss.

As much as I'm not a Halloween girl, this post is only for Halloween fun-ness.

It has not been the best start for this 'ol girl today

{picture a whole container of ham & cheese sandwiches that were made last night for little G's school party...and then left OUT all night...Mommy Fail. I learned this all after over sleeping my alarm by an hour.}

But silver lining...this day is got to get better!

And I have a sweet little Ariel who is beyond excited about this day! And the good news is, she will never care or remember that Mommy messed up the party sandwiches. That makes me happy.

But I posted this picture on Instagram the other day. {follow here} How uh-MAZ-ing is that vest? I borrowed it from my incredible friend, Allison, for Bunko last night.
