Here's the gang at 5 weeks. Busy busy They have been housed outdoors under our upper deck for a couple of weeks now and love it. Also it is easier to keep the area clean.
Next week it is shots and final worming. Then after the 15th July we can start to show them off to their new families.I'll e in touch with those lucky people. Enjoy life.

We had much smoke around Birken, Mt. Currie and Pemberton today due to the Elaho Fire. I took our 2 one year old boys, Caesar and Pup out for a romp in the tall grass. Foe a Berner, life doesn't get much better than this.

Good News from Birken, B.C. One of our females has just given birth to five new Berners!
Born on June 2, 2015. 2 girls and 3 boys. They are doing great and their eyes are just open. Almost up off their bellies now too!

The gang is now 5 and a half weeks old and going strong. Happy bunch of boys who love laying on their backs and having their bellies scratched The boy with his tongue out is Caesar. We are keeping him.Next week it is down to Hollyburn Vet. Clinic for shots and micro chips. I need four crates now to transport them!! They have all been sleeping and eating outside under the front deck, and love it.
Weather has been warm and sunny here in Birken so paper training was very easy. Stay tuned for more pics.

Another busy day with Bernice and her baby Berners with their 2 week checkup and weigh-in. Averaging about 1.4 kilos each. Big boys. The young lady is about 1.2k. Down the beautiful Sea to Sky Highway to West Vancouver and Hollyburn Veterinarian Clinic, on Marine Drive and 14th. 604.922.6011
Dr. Neil Cropper has been handling all our Berners since 1997. I would trust my Berners to no one else. Michelle and Ayuka handle them with tender loving care.
Now we will watch them grow for a few weeks before first shots, micro chip etc.
The weather in Birken is great so we will have many opportunities to bring them outside for some exploration on the front lawns. More photos to follow.

Eight New Birken Berners Puppies

Well, my loyal followers; June 11, 2014 was a big day at Birkenberners with 8 new puppies 6 Boys and 2 girls, being born to Birkenberners' Bacia's Bernice. Daddy Berner, Disco Cisco of the Barking Bunch is waiting patiently to meet his new sons and daughters. It was the easiest birth we have ever experienced. Labor began at about noon and by 6pm all were born and hungrily nursing. We have put in a small holding crate to keep all the pups to prevent Mom from accidently laying on any of them. We give her 4 or 5 at a time to clean and feed while the others sleep. We are one big happy family. I plan on keeping one of the boys and the rest will find new families to take care of. Those who have little children or babies would be wise to get a Berner while the children are young. The bonding process is so much easier for children and puppies. As of yet we have 3 or 4 spoken for. This breeding was a successful mixing of good Dutch championship bloodline with our Canadian female. We expect the pups to be very amiable and calm as their Dad and Mom are. We'll keep everybody posted with pictures during the next few weeks.

It was a busy year with three new Berners added.

Brinkely, Marble Majika, and Poncho's Jiggers. Marble and Jiggers will be breeding age this year and we plan at least one litter from the pairing.

Bacia will also have litters this year starting in June. Puppies, for everybody this time!

We wish all the families of our Berners the very best in the new year, and everybody a happy new year

Hi everybody; I've been busy with the newest litter and have finally sent all of them less one to their new families. I kept a female I call Brinkely Blossom. Here is a picture of the little cutie. I think she will do wonderfully in shows. That's her mom beside her.

Well people, we got back from the Vet's and the ultra sound showed at least 8 healthy pups waiting to see the light of day. Next week, for sure they will enter this world. We'll keep you posted.

They love straw and have just discovered chickens.

Six weeks old now and soon off to their new families. One will be raised as a show dog, my boy Jiggers will hopefully be a good sire down the road.

The other two will be going to young families who have Berners now, so they won't be lonely for long

PUPPIES ARE NOW 5 WEEKS OLD

The pups are getting busier and busier as they discover their surroundings. Mom pops in about four times a day now and spent last night out in the snow with her step-brother, Disco Cisco from The Barking Bunch.

We've had about 25cms (10") since last night and the adults love it.

In the morning you go outside and call them and a large mound of newly fallen snow rumbles to life with them bursting out!

The pups get their first shots next week, along with a micro-chip. I'm also going to DNA sample each pup.

This is mostly due to a nefarious deed we call "Litter Stuffing" where a mating has occurred with a female/male who have not successfully passed the hip and elbow x-ray examinations and very possibly, already suffers from the maladies caused by structural joint

displacement, namely;

Dysplasia of the hips and/or elbows, fiberous dysplasia and illnesses related to these issues;

and produces a litter that is credited to a female/male that have passed the exams when displaying for sale, and registering them with AKC/CKC

Documents are also forged to show that a litter came from a dysplasia free female and/or male.

These practices seriously damage the Bernese lineage by passing this disease on to young dogs, and eventually breaks the hearts of those families who purchased such a puppy.

Please check the paperwork of your new family member with the authority that issues the paperwork.

Wonderful Berner Photos

Here are our 7 "kids" at 4 weeks and 2 days of age. The first two are of the girls respectively; JYC and HT (until they get their own call names) Then the two boys, Jiggers and Boomer. The other three just wouldn't sit still for a photo op. Now they are beginning to eat solid food. We give them Royal Canin Puppy food, they never had an issue with Melamine laced Gluten because they do not use the same source, China, for their ingredients. They all will be getting their micro-chips and second examination for de-worming and first shots as well as assessing general health status in 12 days. Then we can let them out of doors, where we have lots of snow to play in. More pictures next week.
