How To Make A Birthday Goodie Bag For Adults

Every birthday is a reminder that we are all getting older. Nevertheless, we are never too old to enjoy a truly delightful gift, and the way that the gift is presented can make it even more so enjoyable.

Steps

1.Lay the brown paper bag flat and write (using the colors of pencils of choice) on both sides of it the words Birthday Goodie Bag. Once that is done, you can also write the words Happy Birthday.
2.Arrange the stickers that you have chosen to use on the brown bag, spread out, for you do not want it to look cluttered.
3.On the two pieces of cardboard that are pre-cut, poke a hole in the center of each of them, using a sharp object or a hole-punch. Once the holes have been punched, set the cardboard aside.
4.In the center of each side of the brown bag and about an inch down from the top, poke or punch holes, do so very carefully, in order not to tear the bag.

5.Take a cardboard piece and add glue to one side, cover well. Then position the cardboard on the inside of the bag so that the holes will be matched up, and hold it in place, allowing it to totally dry, so the glue will hold well. Do the same with the other piece of cardboard on the other side of the bag.
6.Take the color of ribbon that you chose and run it through one hole of the bag and out the other one. Once the last step is done, tie the ribbon's ends off in (fairly) good size knots, so that the ribbon cannot slide back through the holes.
7.You can then add more ribbon to each side of the bag, simply tie it on; you may even want to add some different colors.
8.Fill the gift goodie bag with the items you have chosen. It is certainly going to make some man or woman smile on their special day, for it is packed with goodies, but made with love.

For a change I am going to write about Mother's day . On 13th May . Mothers all over the world has a reason to celebrate... Its a day when Mother's get their due,though only once a year ...
In the times of the ancient Greeks, Rhea, the Mother of the Gods, was honored with a special festival. In seventeenth century England, "Mothering Sunday," celebrated on the fourth Sunday in Lent, honored England's mothers.

The first observation of a Mother's Day in the United States took place in 1872 when Julia Ward Howe, social reformer and poet who penned the words to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," suggested a day to honor mothers. This day, which she felt should be dedicated to peace, was celebrated by gatherings that she organized and held in Boston. This tradition spread, and was later organized in other areas of the country as well.

In 1907, Anna Jarvis took Howe's idea a step further and began to campaign for a nationally recognized Mother's Day. In the late nineteenth century, Jarvis's own mother had tried to establish "Mother's Friendship Days" as a way to heal the scars of the Civil War. Persuading her mother's church in Grafton, to celebrate Mother's Day on the anniversary of Jarvis's mother's death - the second Sunday in May - our Mother's Day holiday as it is now celebrated was born. Jarvis also began the tradition of wearing a carnation in honor or memory of our mothers - a coloured carnation if your mother is still living, a white one if she is deceased.

Jarvis's push to make Mother's Day a national event involved letter writing to ministers, politicians and businessmen. By 1911, Mother's Day was being celebrated in almost every state in the country. On 9th of May 1914, President Woodrow Wilson made the official proclamation that Mother's Day would be a national holiday to be celebrated annually on the second Sunday in May.

Of all twins born worldwide, approximately one third are identical (they come from the same egg), one third are boy/girl fraternal (share the same womb but come from different eggs), and one third are same sex fraternal. Of all identical twins born, about half are both boys and half are both girls. And of the same sex fraternal, half are both boys and half are both girls.

• Of the five types of twin births, about 40% are fraternal boy/girl, followed by girl/girl fraternal and boy/boy fraternal. Identical twins are the least common, with boy/boy identical representing the least common percentage of all twin births.

• The unique bond between identical twins, is commonly known. In fact, identical twins have almost identical brainwave patterns. This can cause one twin to feel pain when the other is injured, or give twins the ability to "read each other's mind." Twins can develop similar physical abnormalities such as each twin missing the same permanent tooth.

• Scientists believe that the number of twin conceptions greatly outnumbers the number of twin births, some say that as many as one in eight births began with twins, while in only one in 70 births produce twins. One author claims that "80% of twin pregnancies result in the loss of one or both babies," though other sources cite this number at about 30%. Of the 133 million people born worldwide in 2000, an estimated seven million should have been twins.

• Australia produced the world's first test-tube twins in June 1981. They are also know for producing the world's first triplets and quadruplets.

• Eating yams may enhance your chance to conceive twins, as can living in the western part of the world compared to the east. Nigeria has the highest rate of multiple births and more identical twins. China has the lowest with the chance for multiple births averaging only one in 300.

• In 1996 there 50,375 sets of twins, 1,766 sets of triplets, 140 sets and quadruplets, and 16 sets of quintuplets were born in the United States.

• In the early to mid-1700's (1725-1765), a Russian peasant gave birth to 16 sets of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets.

• Eli Shadrack Phipps and John Meshak Phipps, born February 14, 1803, in Virginia were the world's oldest known twins. They lived to be 108 and 113, respectively.

Birthday Gift Ideas For One year Old

I have a son that recently turned one. He received many things for his birthday, and while we definitely appreciated the fact that people were thoughtful enough to give him gifts, we often wondered why they chose to give him those gifts. He received many toys that were for children more than twice his age and many clothes that were too big as well. It seems that he actually got very few age appropriate items. At first I was puzzled about this but then I realized that maybe people just don't realize what 1 year old babies need.

Toys are always a great hit with 1 year olds. Many babies love toys that make noise, but be sure and check with parents before actually buying any loud ones. They could get you in big trouble otherwise. Also, when buying toys be sure to check the label for an age recommendation. Some 1 year olds are ready for toys that say 18 months + but many are not. If you don't know the baby well enough to know what they are and aren't capable of, just stick with the toys that say 12+ or younger. Babies get too frustrated by toys that are too advanced for them.

Books are also a great idea. Most 1 year old children love simple, colorful books. When looking for books for children, it can be a little trickier than toys because most don't have age recommendations on them. For a 1 year old, you should definitely look at construction. Babies tend to put anything and everything directly in their mouth. Board books and cloth books are both excellent choices for babies. Also, look for books with just a few words on each page. Too many words cause babies to get bored before someone gets all the way through reading each page. Pictures of babies and/or animals always seem to be a hit for babies as well.

Movies are a good gift, as long as you choose carefully. Toddlers have very short attention spans so you don't want to get them movies that last longer than about 30 minutes. Most won't even be able to watch for that long. I've found that on average, my son will watch TV for about 20-25 minutes, tops. Full length movies are still much too long for him at this age. He does enjoy watching Baby Einstein movies and Nick Jr episodes on DVD, though. Sesame Street ones are favorites along with Disney channel's early morning line up as well. They are all short and simple.

Clothes are a good idea for children, too. You just need to be sure and check with the parents to see what size the baby is wearing. Clothes may say size 12 months on them, but there are many 12 month olds who wear a size 18 or 24 months instead. There are also babies that are still in size 6-9 months at 12 months of age. As you know, not all babies grow at the same rate, and sometimes it's hard to judge what size a baby is in just by looking at him/her. It's generally not a good idea to just estimate and buy the baby a size you think might be too big, either. You have to consider how fast babies grow, and the fact that if they are in a size 18 months now, by the time they grow into that cute little 24 months outfit you bought, it might be the middle of summer and they will never get a chance to wear it.

If you are looking for gift items on a low budget, you can check out clothes on clearance racks, books, or cheap toys. Generally, movies tend to run you $10-15 or even more and are rarely on clearance. Good sturdy books for a 1 year old typically run anywhere from $5-25. You can get them on sale sometimes, but usually not with a substantial amount of savings. Clothes, however, you can find on clearance for less than $5 and toys as well. Just check clearance racks and sales aisles.

In closing I will say, no matter what you choose to buy for the 1 year old in your life, try to get something age appropriate. While you may think you are doing parents a favor by buying something that they can grow into, in reality, many times the item is lost, broken, or already too small, by the time we remember that we have it. Many parents of toddlers just have addled brains. We easily misplace things and don't see them again for weeks or months. We are much less likely to do that if the item works for our child when we first get it.

Birthday parties are always among the highlights of a child's year, but did you ever wonder how the tradition of birthday parties started?

The tradition of birthday parties started in Europe a long time ago. It was feared that evil spirits were particularly attracted to people on their birthdays. To protect them from harm, friends and family would to come be with the birthday person and bring good thoughts and wishes. Giving gifts brought even more good cheer to ward off the evil spirits. This is how birthday parties began.

At first it was only kings who were recognized as important enough to have a birthday celebration (maybe this is how the tradition of birthday crowns began?). As time went by, children became included in birthday celebrations. The first children's birthday parties occurred in Germany and were called Kinderfeste.

Africa - Initiation Ceremonies. In various African nations they hold initiation ceremonies for groups of children instead of birthdays. When children reach a certain designated age, they learn the laws, beliefs, customs, songs and dances of their tribes.

Argentina - Dance the waltz at 15. When girls turn 15 they have a huge party and dance the waltz with their father and other boys.

Bolivia - Dance the waltz and wear white. At the age of 16 the birthday girl wears a white dress and dances the waltz with her father and other boys.

Brazil - Pulls on the earlobe. The birthday child receives a pull on the earlobe for each year they have been alive. The birthday person also gives the first slice of cake to his/her most special friend or relative, usually mom or dad. At the age of 15, the girl dances a waltz with staring with her father and grandfather. She dances with a total of 15 partners each symbolizing a year of her life.

Canada - Greasing the nose with butter or margarine on Birthday . In Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland) the birthday child is ambushed and their nose is greased for good luck. The greased nose makes the child too slippery for bad luck to catch them. This tradition is reputed to be of Scottish decent. Birthday punches. In Quebec the birthday person receives a punch for each year they are alive and then one for good luck.

China - Noodles for Lunch. The birthday child pays respect to his/her parents and receives a gift of money. Friends and relatives are invited to lunch and noodles are served to wish the birthday child a long life.

Cuba - Food, music, pinatas and lots of people. The celebrations are very similar to the United States; food, decorations, gifts, pinatas, cake, candles, "happy birthday" song and games. But a lot of people are invited including neighbors, friends, co-workers and family even if they don't have kids around the birthday child's age.

Denmark - Flying Flags. A flag is flown outside a window to designate that someone who lives in that house is having a birthday. Presents are placed around the child's bed while they are sleeping so they will see them immediately upon awakening.

England - Fortune Telling Cakes and Bumps. Certain symbolic objects are mixed into the birthday cake as it being prepared. If your piece of cake has a coin in it, then you will be rich.
