Bistro 108 and Celebrations by Bistro 108 Wine Bar will be open tonight -- Wednesday November 23. So if your bored or tired of cooking or just want to get away for a glass of wine -- come see us tonight at the Wine Bar, 127 N. Main Street.

We will be closed Thursday November 24 to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families.

Bistro 108 and Celebrations by Bistro 108 Wine Bar will be open our regular hours Friday November 25.

CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHIC PROCESSES

Bonnie J. McConnell was born in Houston and graduated with Honors from the University of St. Thomas in the 70’s with a degree in Art, the tutelage of Earl Staley, Jack Boyton and the contributing impact and inspiration of the DeMenil’s.

Although Bonnie produced art throughout her life, her artistic ambitions were restrained by child-raising and the demands of an entrepreneurial real estate business. But upon grand-parenthood and retirement, her drive for art-making was unleashed.

With new-found time and attention, she discovered and explored the painterly potential of Polaroid Transfers, emulsion lifts and chemical enhancements until Polaroid film ceased to be manufactured. Forced to divert her experimentation, she began to explore new alternatives in digital photographic processes and is now on the cutting edge of the emerging field of digitally enhanced photography. She creates her own substrates using transfer film, handmade papers, metals, and multiple other processes.

Celebrations Wine Bar & Market Opens

Celebrations Wine Bar & Market, 127 N. Main, La Grange, Texas, opened quietly last night to a large, happy crowd. Everyone who came by had a great time and enjoyed some excellent wines and great appetizers. The new hours will be 5 pm to 10 pm Thursday and Friday and noon to 10 pm on Saturdays. Thanks to everyone who has come by and checked out Celebrations and to those who haven't, we hope to see you very soon.

Wine Dinner Friday, October 28
Make plans to come to Celebrations first wine dinners. We will be highlighting Bertapelle Wines and Fayette County Cattle Company's long horn beef. The price will be $150 per person. The price includes tax and gratuity. Make your reservations as soon as possible because we have limited seating.

I will send out a full menu and list of wines next week, so stay tuned and follow what's happening at Celebrations and Bistro 108.

Celebrations by Bistro 108 banquet facility is up and running. Book your event by calling Susan at 979-966-9959. She will work out the particulars for you. Celebrations by Bistro 108 Wine Bar will officially open next Thursday, October 13 with our first "Thirsty Thursday". Stop by between 4 pm and 10 pm for a glass of wine and a quick bite of cheese and fruit. Relax, converse and celebrate what ever you want. I will be growing the wine selections gradually as I find out what wines you are looking for. You can purchase a glass, a bottle or a case of wine. If I don't have what you want I will try to get it for you. In the mean time, if you see me working there stop by and see what wine I have open. Hope to see you soon.

This a quick note to let everyone know Bistro 108 will be closed Saturday, September 10. We will be open for our regular Sunday Brunch.

Well it is happening -- Celebrations by Bistro 108 Banquet facility, Wine Bar & Market will be opening very soon. We have our first gig September 14 for the banquet facility and the Wine Bar & Market will open -- hopefully -- the week of -September 21 (Antique Week). If you are interested in having a function (wedding reception, Christmas Party, Fund Raiser, Social Get to Gether, whatever ....) we're booking up fast. More info to follow.

Thank Goodness it happened...and...Thank Goodness it is over!!!! All of us at Bistro 108 survived another 14 days of Antique Week! We are so pleased to have the extra guests...but...Wow! It is exciting and exhausting at the same time! Thanks to all of you brave souls who came to dine with us during the rush. For those of you who wanted to come in and couldn't because we were already overrun, remember to call ahead at least a week a head of time -- or at least the day before -- so I can get you on the "list".

"Heart of the Tin Truck" Fundraiser
Do not miss this fun time....This Saturday, April 9,at the Gallery in Round Top we will be catering a fundraiser for the musical "Heart of the Tin Truck" which will debut at Festival Institute in Round Top this Summer. So come on out to Bybee Square in Round Top and listen to some good music, eat some yummy food and drink some cold beer or wine...just have a good time and support a local musical adventure. Mike has tickets at the Bistro.

Tejas Healthcare Clinic Fundraiser
Be sure and get your ticket for Monday, April 11, Lasagna Fest. Susan is cooking up Lasagna...from scratch...with garden salad and garlic bread. The proceeds benefit the Tejas Healthcare Clinic. Tickets are $15.00 for a lasagna dinner for 2 and are available at the Bistro or from the Clinic. You may drive by the Bistro and dinners will be at the curb waiting for you.

This Wednesday only, you can try this great new Zin for only 3.50/glass or $14/bottle. Wine maker notes: Montevina Sierra Foothills Zin is all about berry fruit and spice. Red currants and raspberries swirl with gentle hints of pepper and baking spices. Soft tannins fade away on a drizzle of raspberry sauce.

Next Wednesday -- March 2 -- our half priced wine will be another new wine just added to our list -- Llano Estacado's Viviana, Lubbock, Texas. Wine maker notes: Our 2009 Viviana is a non-traditional blend using aromatic white varieties. Grown in the hot climate of West Texas, these varieties exhibit the perfume of honey, orange blossoms and tropical fruit. Blending at the time of fermentation allows us to achieve an integration of these wonderful fruit flavors. With its fragrant nose, savory acidity and mouthwatering flavors, the Viviana will surely leave you wanting more. This wine will go well with a wide variety of chicken, fish or pasta dishes. Cold Weather - Super Bowl - Valentines Day

Brrrrr! Is it cold enough for you?

This is the coldest weather I can remember. Cold Weather calls for food to warm your soul!

So....on Wednesday, at lunch, we will have Chili with onions and cheddar cheese....salad....cornbread...AND

...Frito Pie (remember that!?!)...with salad. Along with the regular specials of Chicken Fried Steak with cream gravy, home fries and salad....and Chicken Pot Pie. So come and warm up your innards.

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

...last year I think we had 20 guests all day. So we put a big reminder in the calender to close on Super Bowl Sunday 2011...and...so we are CLOSED on February 6, Super Bowl Sunday.

We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Saturday Night and Monday Night.

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou from Bistro 108

As many of you are aware Susan and I flew to the beautiful island of Kauai, Hawaii to cater John Lincke and Christa Jenkins' wedding. We left La Grange at 6 am on December 28 and arrived in Hanalei at around 8 pm Hawaiian time. We spent Wednesday shopping for the wedding.
We are staying in a beautiful house two blocks from the beach where the wedding will take place at 9 am 01-01-11 on Hanalei Bay.

Susan spent today baking the wedding cake while I went on a day long trip to the Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of Hawaii). At the end of the road you are at 5,140 feet and one of the wettest spots on earth. They get over 400 inches of rain a year. (Don't you wish we could ship some back home!)

Tomorrow we cook some more and finish the wedding cake.

It’s Oktoberfest at the Bistro!!! This week we will be featuring traditional German dishes Susan learned to cook when she lived in Germany. Mike has brought in some supportive beers…Shiner Hefeweizen and a St Pauly Girl.

For Dinner Tuesday through Saturday we will feature…

Munich Bratwurst…grilled and served with German potatoes and sauerkraut cooked with onions and bacon in white wine

Jaeger Schnitzel…veal schnitzel in a crisp cracker crust pan sautéed and topped with a sour cream mushroom sauce

Zigeuner Schnitzel...veal schnitzel in a crisp cracker crust, pan sautéed and topped with a rich veal demi glace with sautéed peppers, onions and a few red pepper flakes

Rouladen…fork tender…thinly sliced eye of round filled with sautéed onion, bacon and dill pickle, rolled and baked in a wonderful mushroom gravy

……. Also… German Style Sauerkraut, Red Cabbage with apples, German Style Potatoes and German Style Noodles

Between 5 and 7 Wednesday you can order Susan's luscious home made meat lasagna or her fabulous egg plant Parmesan with home made marinara sauce in addition to our regular Dinner menu. Each will be served with your choice of soup or salad, all for only $12. In addition to the extended early bird Italian specials, Susan will be introducing a new steak to the menu. In addition to the rib eye and tenderloin she is adding a 12 oz New York Strip steak. So come hungry, come early and enjoy these great,this Wednesday only, specials.

So much has been going on at Bistro 108 since Valentines Day.

Bistro 108 Strives to Give Back to the Community

Bistro 108 wants to thank all of our great customers for helping us support and give a little back to the our community. We have participated in several community fund raisers since Valentines Day. March we participated in a fundraiser for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter. May we participated in fund raisers for the Community Foundation of Fayette County and the historic Faison House. April we catered a pasta dinner for the Jabboury Foundation MS 150 fund raiser. Monday we helped with the Tejas Health Care organizations fund raiser. Thanks for allowing us to do a small part in helping these great community services. We look forward to doing more in the future.

New Wine Selection

I've run across a great new white wine for summer drinking or anytime. It is called Pic Pool and is from the Languedoc Roussillon region in France. It is made from the Picpoul (or Pique Poule) grape which is referred to in France as the "lip stinger" grape because of the high acidity in the grape before it is made into wine. The resulting wine is a light fruity and refreshing libation which we found to go great with our Talapia with Salsa Verde. I am not sure how long I will be able to get this one since most of it never makes it across the Atlantic.
