It is just amazing what we can find on the internet for free, if we have the time to scour on the things we are looking for. Sadly, most of the time, free stuff are not really what they seem to be.

I have heard about many type of search engines before, including that of vertical search engines. Not up until recently have I found out that there is also a "group deal search engine". Check if your site is infected with malware

The internet is full of "wild things" and unfortunately no website/blog is 100% secured from malicious attacks. Sometimes, we don't even know if a website has been infected with a malware or if it appears blacklisted somewhere. One way of checking if our websites have any malware traces is by using Google's webmaster tools. Another is by using free online scanners that will check any site for malware, blacklisting status, and out-of-date software.

How to Detect Website Malware?

Sucuri scanners is one of my favorites. It uses the latest in fingerprinting technology allowing you to determine if your web applications are out of date, exploited with malware, or even blacklisted. While they have paid versions, I only use the free site scanner to detect for any possible malware.

If for some reason you do have a malware detected in you site, then appropriate actions can be taken once you know what you are dealing with. Try the free site scanner and see if there any bugs present in your site. Always good to do once in a while, just to pay it safe. Good luck!

Google Plus Widgets For WordPress And Blogger

Google Plus has been generating a lot of buzz lately and it is not a surprise that the WordPress repository has been being filled with many Google+ plugins. While there are already many to choose from, following below are the ones that I, for now, recommend using in case you are interested in putting up a nice looking widget for people to add you on their circles (follow). For blogger users, these plugins won't unfortunately work, however, that does not mean that there isn't a work around. So, without further adieu, here are my recommended Google Plus Plugins and widget for WordPress and Blogger.

Let's start with the widget for Blogger-In-Draft

Google+ Social Statistics is a website that currently tracks and generates detailed statistics for 39,239 users and pulls in hundreds of the most popular posts, every second of the day, from Google+. There, they provide a script that all you have to do is copy and paste into your blogger blog. You can do this by adding a gadget > html > and pasting the script. Be sure to replace the ID with your Google+ profile. Once you have done that, you will have a nice looking widget like the example below:

GoogleCards WordPress Plugin

googleCards is a google+ wordpress plugin similar to Scriptrr. It also adds a widget to your blog that will then display a link to your google+ profile so people can add you to a circle (follow you). It also displays your name, profile picture and the number of people who have you in circles. The plugin uses caching to store your google plus profile data to eliminate checking google+ on every page load. You can use this functionality with a simple permission change on your WP-Content folder and add as many widgets as you want.

Scriptrr Google Plus Profile Widget allows users to add a widget on their blog or website to invite visitors to new Google + Profile. It shows how many followers you got and can also be customized to show your other social profiles as you have defined on your Google+ profile. Free Favicon Maker?

There are several free favicon creators online that it can be hard to pinpoint a real website that actually offers this type of tools for free and without any catch. If you know me by now, you should know that I am a strong advocate for all things free and before recommending anything, I normally test it our for myself first.

Anyway, after searching and testing for free favicon or icon makers online, I was able to narrow it to one only. Yes, it is not a list. This free favicon creator is very good and this is the one I used to create my favicon as you can see in the image below (or on top).

While this is true, I am of the opinion that more important than this is to provide your readers with the best possible user experience and having your website load quickly not only achieves that but also avoids from "casual" visitor to quickly abandon your site if it takes too much time to load. When this happens, you loose potential readers (or customers) and that is something you don't want to happen.

To optimize your page speed, you first will want to know how long your pages load and detect if any, which components are taking too much to fully render. Having the right SEO tools for this is essential as the results will provide you with some insights of what to tackle. One the most obvious tools available for performing this test is Google's Webmaster Tools.
