Rare Gold coin fetches $7.4M

7.4m dollar Gold Coin

An exceedingly rare 1787 gold Brasher doubloon has been sold for $7.4 million, one of the highest prices ever paid for a gold coin.

Blanchard and Co., the New Orleans-based coin and Precious Metals Company that brokered the deal, said the doubloon was purchased by a Wall Street investment firm. Identities of the buyer and seller were not disclosed.

Minted by Ephraim Brasher, a goldsmith and neighbor of George Washington, the coin contains 26.66 grams of gold — slightly less than an ounce. Worth about $15 when it was minted, the gold value today would be more than $1,500.

The Brasher doubloon is considered the first American-made gold coin denominated in dollars; the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia didn’t begin striking coins until the 1790s.AP.

What comes to your mind when I say the word "abs"? Do you think of the infomercials advertising "6 second abs" or the latest Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue? Most people focus on training their abs to look thinner or sexier. But, do you realize the importance of your abs in everyday activities? Most yoga instructors do. And that's why one of the focuses of yoga is to build

your core abdominal strength.

Important for posture

Your abs attach to your spine and pelvis, helping balance your back in good posture. Often times, when your back is not supported in the correct posture by your abdominals and back muscles, back pain occurs. Did you know that back pain accounts for approximately 50 billion dollars in health care costs each year. This is not something to be taken lightly -- so remember -- one of the best ways to prevent back pain is to strengthen your abs.

It often takes a conscious effort to sit in good posture. But, even if you get into a good sitting posture, you will need the abdominal and back endurance to maintain it! How are you sitting at your computer right now? I would bet most of you are sitting in a slumped posture?.some more than others. To sit in good posture, you should have a slight inward curve in your back with your ears directly over your shoulders.

One way to strengthen your abs while working on your computer is to use an exercise ball as your chair. Yes, you heard me right! In fact, I am sitting on my exercise ball as I write this article.

Important for balance

Without abdominal strength, you will have difficulty sitting, standing and walking. Your center of gravity is located at your sacrum or roughly just below your belly button. Therefore, your abs play an important part in keeping you balanced at your center of gravity.

Think about someone who is a quadriplegic or paralyzed from the neck down. They are not able to sit by themselves because their back and abdominal muscles are paralyzed. In other words, they are no longer able to balance themselves. In contrast, a paraplegic, someone paralyzed from the waist down, is able to balance and sit by themselves because only their legs are paralyzed leaving their abdominal and back muscles intact. This proves that our abdominals are important for our balance.

If you are now sitting on your exercise ball, you can practice some balance exercises and strengthen your abs simply by rolling your hips forward, backward and side to side. Make sure to pull your stomach inward during these motions.

Now that you know the importance of your abs, you need to integrate abdominal strengthening into your regular strength training. Abs should be trained like any other muscle ? 8 to 12 repetitions, 3 times per week.

Top 10 Tips For Finding Time For Exercise

If you're like most people, finding time for

exercise is difficult. Here are my "top 10"

tips to help you in that quest..

1. Make exercise a priority. We all make time

in our lives for the things that are most

important to us. If I told you I'd give you a

million dollars if you exercised everyday for

the next 30 days, would you do it? Sure you

would, because it would suddenly become a

priority. If you're serious about finding time

for exercise, then it must be a priority in

your life.

2. Block out the same time period everyday

for exercise. This way it becomes part of your

daily routine just like brushing your teeth.

Vehemently guard this time period. It is your

time to take care of yourself.

3. Exercise first thing in the morning. This

is when your exercise time is least likely to

get interrupted by other things.

4. Turn off the television. The average adult

spends 16 hours per week watching television.

One of my clients told me that she resolved to

only watch television while she was exercising.

You may not be interested in taking it that far

but you can certainly cut out a few hours of

television a week to make time for exercise.

5. Wake up earlier in the morning to exercise.

Try going to sleep a little earlier and getting

up a little earlier to get your exercise done

first thing in the morning.

6. Spend 30 minutes or so exercising on your

lunch break.

7. Get a book rack for your stair climber or

treadmill and spend some of your reading time

exercising.

8. Visit with your spouse or friend while walking

around the neighborhood rather than sitting on

the couch.

9. Take a couple of days to write down how you

spend your time everyday, then determine how

you can better use your time to fit in exercise.

10. Make your exercise as enjoyable as possible.

You will be much more likely to find time for

things you enjoy.

The first accident on the Southern Expressway occurred today (November 28) at 7.15am. Two persons have sustained injuries when a speeding vehicle toppled on the highway.

The vehicle was unable to control its speed causing it to topple making it the first accident on the expressway since it was declared open yesterday (November 27) by

Lebanon Rockets hits Israel, sparking tension

Rockets fired from Lebanon land in northern Israel

A volley of rockets fired from Lebanon slammed into Israel on Tuesday, the Israeli army said, prompting retaliatory fire and sparking new tensions in the volatile region.

The incident marked the first cross-border exchange of fire since August 1 and a rare instance of rockets being launched into Israel since the Jewish state waged war against Lebanese militant group Hezbollah in 2006.

In a statement, the Israeli military said “a number of rockets” landed in the western Galilee region without causing any casualties and that Israeli troops “responded by targeting the origin of the fire.”

Israeli media reported that a total of four rockets hit the area, including one that struck a gas tank and caused a fire.

In Lebanon, a military spokesman confirmed that at least one rocket was fired from the region of Rmaish.

“We know that a rocket was fired from the region of Rmaish and we are investigating,” said the spokesman, who did not want to be identified.

He said Israel had retaliated by firing four rockets.

The region of Rmaish is largely controlled by the powerful militant party Hezbollah, but an official from the group told AFP he had no immediate comment on Tuesday’s incident.

Israeli military radio, citing army officials, said the rocket fire was likely the work of a small Palestinian or Islamist group rather than Hezbollah.

The radio added that Israeli military officials had stressed their desire to avoid an escalation and said that the response to the rocket fire would be “limited and selective.”

Both Israeli government and military officials called on the Lebanese government and military to prevent rocket fire towards the Jewish state.

Intelligence Minister Dan Meridor told Israeli military radio that “the Lebanese government and its army hold sole responsibility for what happens” in southern Lebanon.

“The question of who is behind this fire is not yet answered,” he said, adding that “Hezbollah understands that it has no interest in an escalation.”

In its statement, the Israeli military warned that it considered the rocket fire “a serious incident and believes that it is the responsibility of the Lebanese government and the Lebanese army to avoid this kind of attacks.”

On Tuesday morning, local Israeli military commanders were still assessing the situation but had not instructed residents to go to air raid shelters.

The most recent exchange of fire along the always tense Israeli-Lebanese border was on August 1, when soldiers from the two countries opened fire along the the Blue Line, the UN-drawn border.

That incident came almost a year after Lebanese and Israeli troops traded fire along the same border, killing two Lebanese soldiers and a journalist along with a senior Israeli officer.

That flare-up was the worst clash between the two sides since Israel’s devastating 2006 war in Lebanon against the Shiite Hezbollah militia.

The war, launched after a Hezbollah cross-border raid that captured two Israeli soldiers, destroyed much of Lebanon’s major infrastructure and killed more than 1,200 Lebanese — mainly civilians — and 160 Israelis, mainly soldiers.

In May 2011, tensions once again flared as protesters massed on the border between the two countries to mark the anniversary of the 1948 creation of the Jewish state, which Palestinians term the “nakba,” or catastrophe.

President declares open the Southern Expressway

President Mahinda Rajapakse ceremonially declared open Sri Lanka’s first Expressway a short while ago.

President Rajapakse who is also the Highways Minister marked the opening of the Southern Expressway by unveiling the commemorative plaque at Welipenna, one of the eight interchanges on the toll road.

The E- 01 Southern Expressway will be open to the public from 6 pm today (27) following the end of the opening ceremony while the toll for the complete journey for a car will be Rs. 400.

The first part of the Southern Expressway which consists of 95 kilometres, spans from Kottawa to Galle.
The second phase of the development will see the expressway extended to Matara and is slated to be opened in 2013.

Constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs.70 billion, the expressway has eight entry points at Kahathuduwa, Gelanigama, Dodamgoda, Welipenna, Kurundugaha Hethekma, Baddegama and Pinnaduwa.
The four-lane expressway is expected to enable motorists to reach the port city of Galle within one hour at a maximum speed of 100 Km per hour.

According to the shamanic traditions, the great mystery of being is that all things are alive and have a level of intelligence. This is because all things are a part of the Great Spirit. However, all things also function individually, in thought and action. It is in these individual actions that karma is born. Karmic laws also state that all karma, both good and bad, must also return home...return to sender!

Most of us don't have a good grasp of group karma. Simply stated, if you agree to be a member of a group situation, you are also agreeing to it's collective karmic pattern of return. So sooner or later problems at work, in your business or corporate structure will show up at your front door. It's like you caught the flu from the group...but now your personally ill.

On the brighter side, Spirit is not against business, but is really pro-business....so now what?The newer business model that is emerging is much more holistic. By agreeing to function more holistically, much less damaging karma developes.....and if you're really aware of all business levels...very little negative karma developes. So, if you're in a corporate or business situation, and things are not really going right...take the time to clear the issues up, before you catch the karmic flu!

Just at the environmental level, many things should be addressed....but just start by keeping your office or work space clean and organized....this helps clear out negative energy patterns. Taking it one step further...use Feng Shui tools and techniques if you know how. Or buy a book, hire a consultant or use trial and error to solve some of the ongoing issues around you at the job or business.

Nokia has announced more than 10,000 layoffs for this year and next as a part of its effort to switch its devices over to Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system.

And on Wednesday, Nokia Siemens Networks, a joint venture between Nokia and Siemens(Germany's equivalent to General Electric Co. in the U.S.), announced that it is cutting 17,000 jobs.

The telecommunications company said that the layoffs are a part of a global restructuring that will allow it to be more competitve on the mobile side of its business.

"We believe that the future of our industry is in mobile broadband and services -– and we aim to be an undisputed leader in these areas," Rajeev Suri, Nokia Siemens' chief executive, said in a statement. "At the same time, we need to take the necessary steps to maintain long-term competitiveness and improve profitability in a challenging telecommunications market."

The job cuts will be completed by the end of 2013, the company said.

"These planned reductions are regrettable but necessary –- and it is our goal to make them in a fair and responsible way," Suri said.

The job reductions will also trim about $1 billion from the company's operating expenses over the next two years, the statement said.

A Russian TV newsreader has been fired after apparently raising her middle finger to Barack Obama live on air.
REN TV, a privately owned Russian channel, dismissed Tatyana Limanova after a video clip of her gesture went viral.
Limanova was reading a report on the Asian-Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec) summit held in Hawaii earlier this month when she noted that Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's president, had taken up its rotating presidency.

"Before, this post was held by Barack Obama," she read, before looking up at the camera, lowering her eyes again and raising her middle finger.
Debate raged inside Russia over whether Limanova's gesture was aimed at Obama or someone inside the studio, but REN TV took no chances.
"On 14 November, on the News 24 programme, anchor Limanova, on live TV, allowed the use of an inappropriate gesture (a synonym for an obscene expression)," the channel said in a statement on Thursday.

"This gesture was addressed to members of the production team, had no subtext, and was not linked to the information Limanova was reporting at the time."
The channel decided to fire her anyway, stating: "Since this does not detract from her guilt and is not an excuse, the leadership of the REN TV channel considers this act a gross violation of discipline and a manifestation of unprofessionalism."
REN TV is one of the few privately owned federal TV channels inside Russia and broadcasts to 120 million people.
The row came a day after US-Russia relations faced their latest test.
On Wednesday, Medvedev issued a harsh statement warning the US over its missile defence plans – a move said to have "spoiled Thanksgiving" for the Americans.

16 dead bodies found in Mexican vehicles

MEXICO CITY: Two vehicles containing 16 charred bodies were found early Wednesday in Culiacan, capital of the violence-wracked northwestern state of Sinaloa, in what officials say is macabre message between rival drug gangs.

The vehicles were found about five kilometers (three miles) apart, Martin Gasteum, a spokesman for the Sinaloa state prosecutor’s office, told by telephone.

“In the first (vehicle) 12 bodies were found, and in the second, four,” Gasteum said.

Firefighters received emergency calls at dawn to put out the fire at the first vehicle, then got a call to put out the fire at the second car about ten minutes later, Gasteum said.

A female body was found in the first vehicle, while one of the victims in the second vehicle had been decapitated and his head left on the ground, Gasteum said.

Preliminary reports show that the victims were first shot dead, then their bodies were driven to the site where the cars were set ablaze. “There were no signs of violence in the place where the bodies had been abandoned,” Gasteum said.

Sinaloa Governor Mario Lopez Valdez said the violence could be “a message between criminal groups.”

Four men were shot dead Wednesday in a town some 25 kilometers (15 miles) north of Culiacan, but Gasteum said the incidents were unrelated.

Separately, the Mexican Army announced that on Tuesday it had confiscated 1.7 tons of marijuana after a driver and passengers abandoned a truck in Culiacan.

EU says Ready to talk with Syria's Opposition

The European Union is ready to engage with the Syrian National Council and other opposition groups, a spokesman for the EU's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said on Wednesday.

Asked about French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe's comment that France backed a possible humanitarian corridor in Syria and considers the Syrian council a legitimate partner to work with, spokesman Michael Mann said: "The High Representative met yesterday with leaders of the Syrian National Council. "During the meeting she stressed the importance of the opposition maintaining a clear
commitment to a peaceful and non-sectarian approach," he said.

"The EU stands ready to engage with the Syrian National Council and other representative members of the opposition who adhere to non-violence and democratic values," he said.

Addressing the need for humanitarian response, he said: "Protection of civilians in Syria is an increasingly urgent and important aspect of responding to the events in the country." (Reuters)

Obama forces Yemen to carry out 'historic transition'

US President Barack Obama urged Yemen to immediately implement a deal under which President Ali Abdullah Saleh has agreed to hand over power after 33 years in office.

"The United States will continue to stand by the Yemeni people as they embark on this historic transition," Obama said in a written statement.

Saleh, who has been the target of opposition protests since January, signed the deal in Riyadh, ending months of delay that had seen protests degenerate into deadly unrest.

Under the agreement, the veteran leader will hand over his powers to Vice President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi but remain

honorary president for 90 days.

"The United States urges all parties to move immediately to implement the terms of the agreement, which will allow Yemen to begin addressing an array of formidable challenges and chart a more secure and prosperous path for the future," Obama said.

He praised the Yemeni people for "courageously and steadfastly" pressing for change in their country despite "violence and extreme hardship."

"Today marks a significant step forward for the Yemeni people in their quest for a unified, democratic, secure, and prosperous Yemen," said Obama's top diplomat Hillary Clinton, praising neighboring Gulf states for their role in brokering the deal

"We urge all parties within Yemen to refrain from violence and to move swiftly to implement the terms of the agreement in good faith and with transparency -- including credible presidential elections within 90 days."

She said Washington would continue to "closely monitor" the political transition in Yemen, and looked forward to shoring up ties with Sanaa.

Saleh had repeatedly backed out of signing the deal brokered by Yemen's wealthy Gulf neighbors since the parliamentary opposition inked it back in April.

During his months of prevarication, deadly clashes between loyalist and dissident troops had riven the capital, while militants, some linked to Al-Qaeda, took advantage of the decline of central government control in the provinces to set up base.

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, who hosted the signing ceremony at his Al-Yamama palace in Riyadh, hailed a "new page" for the impoverished neighbouring country, while US President Barack Obama called on Yemenis to immediately implement the "historic transition" that had been agreed.

Saleh promised "real partnership" with the opposition in implementing the Gulf- and UN-brokered agreement, but thousands of demonstrators again to took to the streets of the capital Sanaa to protest against the deal's promise of immunity from prosecution for both him and his family.

Spokesman Walid al-Amari told AFP they rejected the agreement and called for further mass demonstrations.

The 69-year-old Saleh sustained serious blast wounds in a June bombing of his residence for which he has already received extensive treatment in Saudi Arabia.

Under the roadmap brokered by Benomar, Saleh will hand to Hadi "all powers necessary for proceeding with the Gulf initiative and its implementation mechanism and for organising early elections within a 90-day period which begins immediately after the signing."

Saleh will remain honorary president for 90 days until Hadi is elected as consensus president for an interim two-year period.

The parliamentary opposition, which co-signed the agreement in Riyadh, will put forward a candidate to head a government of national unity, that will be charged with holding talks with the youth activists who have spearheaded the 10 months of protests, the UN envoy said.

But an opposition spokesman warned that the protesters were unlikely to give up their almost daily demonstrations until Saleh has finally quit office completely.

"People will not go back to their homes until the honorary term ends," Mohammed Qahtan, spokesman for the Common Forum opposition bloc, told AFP.
