What are the differences between people from the UK and the USA

Accents and how friendly or not some people are...

First visited the US in 1974.For a one week course in Kentucky with a German Engineer. Working for the Process Computer

Systems part of GE. That was a taste, so I went back for a 2 month holiday.

Second visit in 1975.Flew from London to JFK and onwards to San Francisco. Went looking for that beach that the

Monkeys played on, only rocks. On a boat trip to Alcatraz round the renowned prison and end up

with sunburn. So chemist for sun lotion and big hat to keep the sun off. Took Greyhound bus

tours to different places. Then moved down to Hollywood it reminded me of Blackpool.

After a couple of tours moved down to Orange County and found a pub with a Country music

band. That put me in the right mood. After chatting to some locals they suggested Lake Tahoe

for nightlife and wildlife.

Came across a school outing from Germany. That reminded me of where I had come from and

what differences I would find here in the US.

Next I visited San Diego and it reminded me of Portsmouth. With a US Sailor flying out in the

horizontal plane from a Bar. Took a tour down to Mexico and back. Their Brown Beer was like

some UK Beers. Food was different and made a good change.

Bus back up to San Fran and another to Lake Tahoe. Stayed in a Casino Hotel and listened to the

Three Degrees over a meal and some beers. Then I went for a walkabout and met some friendly

visitors.

They invited me over for breakfast in their holiday cabin. The woman was cooking breakfast and

opened the back door. That attracted a large Brown Bear making her scream. When it banged its

head above the door. Her husband fired a shotgun in the air and off it went.

Later that day started the horseback trekking holiday for two weeks. Two guides, two guys and

ten young women. So the guides introduced themselves and one went through the safety drill.

Every night put all the food in the sacks and the guides tied them up.

The horses carried us up and down the hills, through the woods and across the rivers. Plenty of

wildlife and some bears looking at us. About the third or second last night one of the girls was

eating cookies and a bear swiped the corner of her tent.

It could have knocked her head off. After a lot of screaming and two small bottles of Brandy

and a bucket of water, and some slaps she stopped.

Two police came out and took her back for a check-up. Her father got the police to check with

everybody and we all had the same story.

Then the Guide showed the police. That we had all signed up for the trek holiday and accepted

the terms and conditions. So one more night in the Casino Hotel with a good band and meal.

Before getting the bus back to the San Fran airport and back through JFK to London.

So no hassles, everybody friendly and only one New York Jewish guy, who spoke like a machine

gun on two of the bus tours. On the way out robbed by a guy on the floor of a yellow taxi in the

Airport Taxi Que.

Lucky for me it was the morning and I found the British Embassy. Who replaced my passport.

And sent somebody with me to the bank to get cash and the replacement cards organised.

Stayed one more night and collected my cards in the morning. Took the bus back to JFK.

Third visit to the US in 1979 working for UNIVAC based in Minnesota lasted 8.5 months.

Shared a flat with another Engineer, who went home at weekends.

Went off site-seeing again on Greyhound Buses. Visited surrounding states and round the Great

Lakes fishing. Found a lot of friendly Scandinavians round the Great Lakes.

Went to Chicago and got on well in the Irish part of town. Chatted about football and rugby.

Having been in the North and South of Ireland youth hostelling and hiking around.

Feed this data into your story and business plan.

Present your Business Plan to the Crowdfunding companies and use their feedback to do the final tweaks.

North America: The most European cultural parts:

The most European with the French in and around Montreal and Quebec.

If you include the Scottish descendants then Canada is the most European.

But remember some southern US states speak French and Creole, New Orleans.

There are more Irish in the Boston, Chicago and New York areas than all of Ireland and the UK.

Both the US and Canadian areas around the Great Lakes are Scandinavian.

Between the two World Wars the vote in the US to make German the first language was 52% against and 48% for it. People who have names ending in mann are of German origin and culture.

From the book the 11 Tribes of the US we have 5 above, so add English, Russian, Polish, Italian, Spanish(Latino) and Jewish.

The British Queen is an excellent example for other leaders around the World to follow. Never letting the people or Government down.

The last night of the Proms shows how the Queen unites the World with lots of flag waving and singing by people from Europe and around the World.

More Europeans applied to stay in the UK. About four times more than the British in Europe.

I would always raise a glass to toast the Queen. God bless her.

EU - What most people have failed to see

These are the problems facing the EU

Northern Italy would be happy to leave the South. But the actions by Spain against the Catalans has
discouraged them.

Change is still rumbling along. But the other two countries facing the same problem are Germany with
4 or 5 states, Bavaria being the richest and France with Normandy.

Both these countries have hard right parties gaining votes, people are upset with the immigrants and
the problems they are causing.

Organisation

European Council sets the EU’s priorities, made up of national and EU leaders. Most people

know the president, but not the others.

Presidency of the Council and since 2007. The Presidency is coordinated every 18 months by

three countries (a "triplet").

European Parliament formed with elected MEPs by European people. It spends half a week in

Brussels and the rest in Strasbourg. What a waste of money. Operating coverage by leading

newspapers, television and radio is minimal to non-existent.

The EU Commission promotes the interests of the EU. President proposed by the European

Council and based on the last European elections. Elected by the European Parliament on a

5 year mandate.

The alternative based on the votes by the Commissioners representing each member country.

This would save a fortune and remove the need for the other three bodies above. The President

can attend G8 and other similar events. The Commissioners should be the elected heads or

deputy heads of each member country.

3 off the 7 Hills around Edinburgh?

From the right corner of my front room

If I can see the third set of hills on the right clearly it will be a good day.

But it's cold! It was freezing during the night and a heavy frost is still on the cars.

My home is in Edinburgh, Scotland and 10 minutes from Blackford Hill.

The first hill behind the trees is Blackford Hill and on the other side the Royal Observatory,

the other one is in Greenwich, London. With the Greenwich Mean Time Line in front of it on a hill.

Below the hill to the right is the Hermitage of Braid, a popular wooded area for dog walkers and kids.

At the left is the Craigmillar Golf Club. During my apprenticeship I worked on assembling the cards

for the Star Identification System. To be installed in the Observatory.

In the middle are the Braid Hills with Golf courses on either side. In my youth at 6 to 8 years old we used

to go and catch Tadpoles and keep them in a Goldfish Bowl under our parents bed. My mum got a shock

one day when a bit of fluth jumped across the floor towards her. After a minute to recover, looked under

the bed and found the Goldfish Bowl, a thick ear for me and my brother.

To the right at the back the two hills are part of the Pentland Hills Regional Park. With Scald Law peak at

579 m (1,900 ft). Growing up with and lived about 30 minutes from the bottom of these hills. With friends

and dogs after school and at weekends playing in these hills. Either helping farmers out doing odd jobs

for an egg each or being chased. In the woods found billy can and boiled the eggs and ate them with wild

onion. In a number of the streams coming off the Pentlands we caught Rainbow Trout and took them

home to eat.

We had to be careful around cattle with young bullocks and Highland Cattle. Over the years we gathered

lots of injured animals, birds (Crows, Ravens, Jackdaws, Sparrows, Finches and Robins), rabbits, hares,

foxes, hedgehogs, field mice, stoats and weasels. At Primary School the teacher Mrs Rae asked us to

bring a pet to school. I took a Raven and when the Deputy Head Master asked what it was and it pecked

him on the nose. Which earned me 6 of the best from his belt. Lots of laughter from the rest of the class.

Saving young cattle and sheep left us covered in mud and water. The dogs joined in and pushed us in

and then shook themselves over us. Luckily it rained on the way home and we were clean, but wet.

Since the farmers thought we knew every nook and cranny and wood in the hills. They pointed the finger

at us. This led us being netted by the police and accused of cattle, sheep, horse and pig stealing of about

200 animals over a weekend. None of us had a driving license. So after a night at the main Police Station

on the High Street in town we were let home.

Nearly every hill in Scotland is the result of volcanic activity from centuries past. The other 4 hills around

Edinburgh, East and West Craiglockhart, Corstorphine, Arthur Seat and the Crags and Calton Hill. It

makes Edinburgh the Athens of the North with its pillars. These hills form the annual 7 Hills Race and the

other race the 7 Reservoirs Race on the Pentland Hills.

The pandemic has stopped us from running in the Hills, since we would have 40+ runners and walkers

out on runs laid with flour, sawdust or pet bedding and running for 1 to 2 hours depending on the weather.

Looking forward to doing it again and enjoying the views over the town and surrounding countryside.

From watching “The Crown TV show”

The Queen can technically dismiss the Prime Minister.

The Queen follows protocol and would not cause embarrassment to the UK.

Therefore if the Tory(Conservative) party wants a new leader, they will decide.

The new Leader will then present to her majesty for approval to form a Government.

This is freedom in action and in China or Russia the actors and TV company management and employee's would never be seen again.

British workers permits to work

It won’t do much, Switzerland has already offered the British workers permits and expect Germany and

Austria to follow. That should be enough to push the others.

A lot of services can be done over the Internet, but some will require on-site visits. Equipment

maintenance is a good example.

Having worked and lived in Europe before the EU was formed. It is easy to discover the requirements.

Registering with the Tax Authorities is the most important one.

Below are the SIC codes that might apply to my projects. So translating these into the European

language to match each country helps registration.
