Black Republicans Smear Obama

The National Black Republican Association are doing what they can to help Senator McCain triumph over Barack Obama in the November presidential elections. That includes producing disparaging ads to be played in battleground states. Here's the copy from 2 of the ads:

"Bitter is what Obama called blacks and whites who love God. Racist is what Obama called his white grandmother who raised him and made sacrifices so Obama could get a good education and become a millionaire. Obama's friends are terrorist Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright who said innocent Americans deserved to die on September 11th. Obama is an arrogant elitist who turned his back on poor blacks and his own country."

From another spot, entitled "Radical Obama":

"Look beyond Barack Obama's skin color and soaring rhetoric and you will see an arrogant, elitist millionaire whose voting record is the most liberal in Congress. Look at the people around Obama, and you will understand that Obama lacks the judgment to be our next president. Obama's mentor for 20-years was Rev. Jeremiah Wright who said innocent Americans deserved to die on September 11th. Obama's 20-year friend and bagman was Tony Rezko who was recently convicted of fraud."

This, ladies and gentlemen is desperation at its finest. I know times are hard for the Republican party, but this is just ridiculous.

Release Date Set for Book Critical of Obama

The publisher behind the book which questioned the merits of John Kerry in 2004 has set a release date for a book similarly critical of Barack Obama.

Conservative journalist David Freddoso’s “The Case Against Barack Obama” will offer “a comprehensive, factual look at Obama,” according to Regnery Publishing president and publisher Marjory Ross.

But the book’s subtitle makes clear its perspective: “The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media’s Favorite Candidate.”

Ross contends that the mainstream media has offered insufficient scrutiny of Obama and likens the goal of Freddoso’s book to that of “Unfit for Command,” the scathing assessment of Kerry’s war record that rocketed to No. 1 on The New York Times best-seller list.

Freddoso's Book is scheduled for release on August 4.

Of course, conservatives won't have near as easy a time smearing Obama as they did with Kerry (which still puzzles me), I don't blame them for trying. Barack's likeability is a major liability for McCain's camp. But the question remains: will these attempts to slander Obama hurt his campaign or help it?

They link you to Islam.

Conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt expressed his enthusiasm for Ohio State in an amazingly asinine manner.

And none of the USC people will give up their tickets to me. I’d pay fair price. They — they know Ohio State’s gonna slaughter the Trojans. They know that they’re gonna slaughter the Trojans, and therefore they do not want me there at the bloodbath, since it’s probably the last football game we’ll ever get to see before the United States gets blown up by the Islamists under Obama. I — I would like to see Ohio State slaughter USC. This is what I’m living for right now.

I'm continually astounded by slurs that are thrown about in reference to Barack Obama. This one was not racial in nature, but there's certainly a history of conservatives attempting to incite religious xenophobia within the American people by tying Barack to Islam.

Are White Americans Deluded About Race Relations?

According a recent poll in the Washington Post, White Americans are markedly more optimistic about racsim with the United States than African Americans.

Overall, 51 percent call the current state of race relations "excellent" or "good," about the same as said so five years ago. That is a relative thaw from more negative ratings in the 1990s, but the gap between whites and blacks on the issue is now the widest it has been in polls dating to early 1992.

I'm certainly not surprised that blacks don't view the state of race relations in America as favorably. Especially with memories of Katrina and Jena, Lousiana in the not so distant past.

More than six in 10 African Americans now rate race relations as "not so good" or "poor," while 53 percent of whites hold more positive views. Opinions are also divided along racial lines, though less so, on whether blacks face discrimination. There is more similarity on feelings of personal racial prejudice: Thirty percent of whites and 34 percent of blacks admit such sentiments.

Mississippi Town Holds First Integrated Prom

For the first time ever students in Charleston, Mississippi attended an integrated prom, and a documentary has been made chronicling the night. Charleston residents cite "traditon" as the reason for the continued segregation.

Student Chasidy Buckley says that Charleston's first interracial prom made for a happy and comfortable night. Some white parents wouldn't let their kids go, and some insisted on holding a private prom for their kids.

Am I the only one who is shocked by these sorts of stories. I know I shouldn't be, but in this day and age I am perplexed by the fact that this sort of abject racism still persists. I'm used to the covert stuff. The sideways glances from white folks and such, but this? You mean to tell me that these people don't want their black kids and white kids to go to a school dance together? What could they possibly be afraid of? Do they think this is the only way colored folks know how to have fun?

Tiger Woods Wins 4th US Open

Eldrick "Tiger" Woods is killing the game yet again. Just a couple of months after undergoing knee surgery. Tiger won his 4th US Open Title.

Al Sharpton, the President, of the National Action Network is being investigated for taking "donations" from many corporate companies.

"Anheuser-Busch gave him six figures, Colgate-Palmolive shelled out $50,000 and Macy’s and Pfizer have contributed thousands to the Rev. Al Sharpton’s charity.

Almost 50 companies - including PepsiCo, General Motors, Wal-Mart, FedEx, Continental Airlines, Johnson & Johnson and Chase - and some labor unions sponsored Sharpton’s National Action Network annual conference in April. Terrified of negative publicity, fearful of a consumer boycott or eager to make nice with the civil-rights activist, CEOs write checks, critics say, to NAN and Sharpton - who brandishes the buying power of African-American consumers. In some cases, they hire him as a consultant.

The cash flows even as the US Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn has been conducting a grand-jury investigation of NAN’s finances."

Obama Speaks to Black Fathers

On this Father's Day, presumptive Democractic Nominee Barack Obama delivered a stern message to black fathers:

"They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it,"

Obama went on to say:

"We can't simply write these problems off to past injustices," Obama said today. "Those injustices are real. There's a reason our families are in disrepair ... but we can't keep using that as an excuse."

Has Queen O Been Dethroned?

A recent NYTimes article is reporting that the reign of Oprah as talk show Queen may be coming to a close as The Ellen Degeneres Show moves up in the ratings.

The average audience for “The Oprah Winfrey Show” has fallen nearly 7 percent this year, according to Nielsen Media Research — its third straight year of decline. “Oprah’s Big Give,” an ABC philanthropic reality show, beat every program on television except “American Idol” in its premiere week this winter, but steadily lost nearly one-third of its audience during the rest of its eight-week run, according to Nielsen.

Oprah's empire may be faltering off screen as well.

The circulation of O, The Oprah Magazine, has fallen by more than 10 percent in the last three years, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, and the magazine is now seeking a new editor in chief after the announced retirement of its longtime steward, Amy Gross.

Critics note that Mama O's highly unusual endorsement of Barack Obama may have alienated many of her viewers who are likely Hillary supporters.

Could it be that the name Oprah Winfrey is no longer synonomous with complete domination of the entertainment world? Though the stats seem less than promising, If anyone can rebound from a stumble like this it's Oprah.

R. Kelly's Lawyer Tries the 'Little Man' Defense

Oh really?

R. Kelly's lawyer Sam Adam Jr. has suggested that an alleged sex tape featuring the R&B star could have been created using the special effects technology from the film Little Man.

Kelly - currently standing trial on child pornography charges - saw his lawyer argue to the court that a video showing him allegedly engaging in a sex act with an underage girl may have been tampered with using computer graphics.

During the defence's cross examination of the victim's friend Simha Johnson, Adam asked the witness if she had seen the film Little Man.

He said: "They put the head of Marlon Wayans on a midget and it looked real, didn't it?"

Jamison replied "Not really!", causing the courtroom to erupt into laughter.

In 2002, Kelly was charged with 21 counts relating to child pornography and released on $750,000 (£380,000) bail. Seven of the charges have since been dropped.

If found guilty the singer could face a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Slick Rick Pardoned by NY Governor

The new Governor of New York David Paterson has pardoned Ricky Walters aka "Slick Rick" 11 years after his release from prison.

Governor David A. Paterson announced today that he has granted Ricky Walters a full and unconditional pardon of his 1991 attempted murder and weapon convictions, in order to allow Walters to seek relief from deportation from the federal immigration courts. Mr. Walters, who was born in the United Kingdom, was lawfully admitted to the United States at age 11, and he was raised in the Bronx. At the time of his crimes, Mr. Walters was a newly-famous hip-hop artist known as “Slick Rick,” who has since been credited with being a pioneer in the development of hip-hop as a mainstream musical genre. Walters was incarcerated for six years, and was released from prison in 1997.

“Mr. Walters has fully served the sentence imposed upon him for his convictions, had an exemplary disciplinary record while in prison and on parole, and has been living without incident in the community for more than 10 years,” said Governor Paterson. “In that time, he has volunteered at youth outreach programs to counsel youth against violence, and has become a symbol of rehabilitation for many young people. Given these demonstrated rehabilitative efforts, I urge federal immigration officials to once again grant Mr. Walters relief from deportation, so that he is not separated from his many family members who are United States citizens, including his two teenage children.”

Obama To Be Without Blackberry, Email For Course of Term

Because of his responsibilites as the 44th President of the United States, President-Elect Barack Obama will soon have to give up his beloved Blackberry.

Security and privacy concerns threaten Mr. Obama's dedication to staying connected to world outside of his political bubble. The Presidential Records Act of 1978 "changed the legal ownership of the official records of the President from private to public, and established a new statutory structure under which Presidents must manage their records." Legislation that was, of course, influenced by disgraced statesman Richard Nixon.

I'm glad he made the decision. Just think how disastrous it would be if something were to come out of those personal emails. Y'all know what technology did to Kwame, but this would be on a much grander scale.
