Bailey
an Evil Digital Photography slideshow
Photographed on location at an undisclosed cabin in the George Washington National Forest near the Elizabeth Furnace Recreation Area. The Elizabeth Furnace Recreation Area is located in Fort Valley, Virginia.
---

Earlier this year my friend Anna inherited from her father's estate a historic cabin, that lies nestled at the edge of the George Washington National Forest, that has been in her family for generations.

Anna's cabin is located in Fort Valley, Virginia, the so-called "valley within a valley", which is an incredibly beautiful valley that lies between the two arms of the northern Massanutten Mountain range in the Shenandoah Valley.

Last year I captured the above images of Anna at her cabin.

For several years now I've stayed at the cabin during fly fishing season.

Anna's cabin is located a very short distance from Passage Creek, which is one of my favorite places in Virginia to fly fish.

Anna is a remarkable woman.

Anna hunts.

Anna fishes.

Anna belongs to the N.R.A.

Anna belongs to Trout Unlimited.

Damn, Anna even ties her own flies.

And, most importantly, Anna is planning on voting for John McCain.

Yeah.

I'm like totally in love with Anna.

Unfortunately, Anna is in love with her pencil dick liberal boyfriend who's a low life D.C. pond scum government lawyer.

Anna's boyfriend is a complete tool that walks around with a huge chip on his shoulder that's psychologically enhanced by a ginormous corn cob that has been permanently implanted in his butt.

Anna's boyfriend hates fishing, belongs to P.E.T.A., which means he despises people who hunt, although he's never been brave enough to say what he really thinks about the subject of hunting to my face, and, naturally, plans on voting for The One.

Anna's boyfriend is one these little city slicker fuckers that's starting complaining about the lack of cable T.V. and email capabilities the moment he steps three feet into the woods.

Late last year, on the day I was scheduled to depart from the cabin, Anna's dipshit boyfriend arrived early sporting an Obama 08 sticker on the back window of his Prius.

Just before I left to return back home to Reston, I placed a Confederate Battleflag sticker next to the Obama 08 sticker.

I can be mean and petty sometimes, especially when dealing with liberal pissants like Anna's boyfriend.

I told Anna what I had done before I left.

Anna thought it was funny as hell.

A few days later Anna called and told me that her boyfriend was furious when he discovered my sticker.

Apparently, the dumbass boyfriend drove all the way back to D.C. before noticing he was promoting the Confederate States of America in the heart of Liberalville.

I'm suprised his Prius wasn't firebombed by his politically correct D.C. neighbors.

They say opposites attract.

In Anna's case, it's certainly true.

I wish Anna's left-wing pacifist vegan-loving boyfriend would take a nature walk through the woods of the George Washington National Forest without the benefit of an orange vest during the height of White-Tailed Deer season.

Just kidding, Anna.

And, yes, I have been brave enough to tell Anna's pussy wimp liberal boyfriend what I think about him.

Anna constantly reminds me that love is a complicated thing.

I wouldn't know what to with a woman who believes in everything I believe in.

Where's my Sarah Palin?

Although, as far a Sarah Palin is concerned, I don't buy into her Creationism bullshit.

I believe that Earth was created 400 billion years ago by a bunch of white liberal racist alien asshole mugwump one-cell slugs from the planet Farkal 14.

The only thing in the world that can possibly explain why planet Earth is so fucked up is the fact that a bunch of angry, bitter, arrogant know-it-all white people from another planet had their manipulative crackety crack hands in the geological mix from day one.

She Who Must Not Be Named Who Is Closest To My Heart also plans on voting for The One.

Why does God play these cruel love tricks on us?

Anyway...

My dear friend Anna has once again given me the keys to her cabin for the weekend.

Anna has allowed me the exclusive use of her family's cabin whenever I want it during fly fishing season for several years now.

Once again I'll have the place all to myself.

I'll be fly fishing along Passage Creek in the George Washington National Forest until next Tuesday, searching for Rainbows, watching the colorful fall leaves drift through the air and land on the water.

I wish you all the best with the politically divisive affairs of your heart.

***

Dear Anna,

Thanks so much for once again for allowing me to use your cabin.

The time I've spent there over the years has been a time of peace, reflection and renewal.

I also promise you that I will not fuck around with your damn boyfriend's car this year if that little fucker shows up early like he did last year.

With Love,

James

***

The Right Reverend James W. I want to thank my friend Chritian for posing for these photographs.

---

Official Reaffirms Commitment to Preventing Civilian Casualties

As a follow-on investigation into an operation by Afghan National Army and U.S. forces in western Afghanistan that claimed civilian lives nears completion, a senior defense official here emphasized the U.S. military's strong record of accountability and follow-through.

"No other military in the world goes to a greater extent to prevent civilian casualties," said Bryan Whitman, deputy assistant secretary of defense for public affairs. "This is something that we take very seriously, and when we have allegations of loss of innocent life, we investigate it."

At issue is an Aug. 22 air strike against a suspected Taliban compound in the western province of Herat that officials initially believed had unintentionally caused several civilian deaths.

Army Gen. David D. McKiernan, commander of U.S. Forces Afghanistan and NATO's International Security Assistance Force, requested a follow-on investigation early last month when additional evidence came to light indicating a higher toll than initial reports indicated.

Army Lt. Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, acting commander of U.S. Central Command, appointed Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael W. Callan to lead the investigation. Whitman said there's no set timetable for when the investigation will conclude, but emphasized CentCom's intent to finish it "in an expeditious fashion."

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates emphasized during his visit to Afghanistan in mid-September that avoiding civilian casualties remains a high priority for U.S. aircrews.

"We're very concerned about this; it's a high priority for us," Gates said at Bagram Airfield. "We work at that hard, work at it harder, and then take another look to see what more we can do to limit innocent people who are killed when we go after our enemies."

McKiernan reiterated that point during an Oct. 1 Pentagon news conference. "That certainly is one of my top challenges, to try to make sure we have the right measures in place to minimize the possibility of civilian casualties," he said.

He noted the distinct difference between how U.S., Afghan, and ISAF forces view civilian casualties and the enemy's point of view. "When we do have an operation that results in civilian casualties, it's been inadvertently caused," he said, "as opposed to our enemy, who causes civilian casualties on purpose."

McKiernan said his command is working with the Afghan government to come up with better ways to deal with future allegations of civilian casualties. "We need to quickly combine our efforts to jointly investigate these allegations instead of separate investigations," he said.

Whitman emphasized today that civilian casualties create not just a humanitarian issue, but also an operational challenge. "Everybody recognizes that civilian casualties in themselves are tragic," he said. "But it also sets back what you are trying to do with respect to the conflict there and taking on the insurgents."

The Right Reverend James W. Despite repeated warnings to back away, the man continued to approach and reached for a coalition member's weapon. Perceiving hostile intent, coalition forces opened fire, killing the man.

At a second location in Mosul, forces surrounded a building and called for its occupants to surrender, officials said. A man appeared from the building and proceeded toward coalition troops, they said. After repeated warnings, the man continued his advance and was killed by coalition forces who perceived hostile intent.

In Baghdad today, coalition forces captured a wanted man believed to be a long-time member of the city's car-bomb network, officials said. Reports suggest the man is associated with another suspected terrorist captured in Baghdad on Aug. 11. An additional suspect was detained during the operation.

In other operations today:

-- Coalition forces captured a wanted man in Samarra, about 65 miles northwest of Baghdad. The man is suspected of being a member of an al-Qaida in Iraq cell in central Iraq and is associated with other al-Qaida in Iraq leaders.

-- Near Kifri, about 60 miles southeast of Kirkuk, coalition forces captured three suspects believed to be part of a group responsible for roadside bombs in the area. Troops seized multiple rifles, grenades and military-style assault vests in the operation.

-- Soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division's 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, captured a suspected member of an Iranian-backed terrorist network operating in southern Baghdad's Rashid district They also confiscated an AK-47 assault rifle, a pistol and various bomb-making materials during the raid in the Hadar community.

In other recent operations:

-- Iraqi police and U.S. soldiers assigned to the 4th Infantry Division's 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, found a munitions cache yesterday in the Jazair community of southern Baghdad's Rashid district while preparing their combat outpost for transition to the Iraqi security forces. The cache consisted of an artillery round, two fuses and more than 100 anti-aircraft rounds. An explosive ordnance disposal team was called in to dispose of the munitions. Later, Iraqi police acting on a citizen's tip found 11 80 mm mortar rounds hidden along a road northwest of Baghdad.

-- On Oct. 6, soldiers assigned to the 10th Mountain Division's 4th Brigade Combat Team captured a suspected member of an Iranian-backed terrorist group in eastern Baghdad's New Baghdad area, and coalition forces and Iraqi police captured three suspected terrorists in southern Baghdad's Rashid district.

The Right Reverend James W. But while his daily job takes priority, teaching Marines how to use the weapons they were born with is Marine Cpl. He said he prides himself in helping Marines achieve their martial arts goals.

"He makes his students earn their belts, and doesn't just give them to them," said Cpl. Demario Walker, 21, from Greenville, S.C., an administration clerk with Task Force 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines. "If the student is willing to put in the time to learn and [work hard] during the class, he will make sure they succeed."

Although the ongoing point of his classes is to make Marines proficient in hand-to-hand combat techniques, Ryan tries to add some of his own goals.

"I teach self defense, leadership traits and how to be a good Marine," Ryan said. "[MCMAP] gives me another sense of purpose and pride in the Marine Corps besides just doing my job. I love what I do."

Ryan said he plans to not only continue teaching Marines in MCMAP, but also to help new servicemembers learn his specialty as he continues his military career. He has received orders for small arms repairer/technician instructor duty at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

"I know while I'm there, I want to be a MCMAP instructor, too," he said.

The Right Reverend James W. One detainee was transferred to Algeria and one detainee was transfered to Sudan. These detainees were determined to be eligible for transfer following a comprehensive series of review processes.

The transfer is a demonstration of the United States' desire not to hold detainees any longer than necessary. It also underscores the processes put in place to assess each individual and make a determination about their detention while hostilities are ongoing – an unprecedented step in the history of warfare.

The Department of Defense has determined – through its comprehensive review processes - that more than 60 detainees at Guantanamo are eligible for transfer or release. Departure of these detainees is subject to ongoing discussions between the United States and other nations.

Since 2002, approximately 520 detainees have departed Guantanamo for other countries including Albania, Algeria, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, France, Great Britain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Mauritania, Morocco, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom and Yemen.

There are approximately 255 detainees currently at Guantanamo.

The Right Reverend James W. Michael Calderaro, platoon sergeant for 3rd Platoon, Company D, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment. Their willingness to learn, particularly after a successful day of training, is obvious in their work, he noted.

"Each day, they bring an enthusiasm to the training that will enable them to get out on the streets and do what needs to be done to provide a safer community for the people of Kadhamiyah," Calderaro said.

The police station in Kadhamiyah is the hub of police activity here in the dense, urban neighborhoods surrounding the Shrine of the Imam Muza Kazim, a predominantly Shiite enclave that also is a political focal point in Baghdad.

Their primary mission will be to search vehicles during the religious ceremonies that draw millions of people each year to Kadhamiyah and to investigate criminal activity in the area and serve as traffic control officers.

The importance of this mission is what drives Lt. Col. Jasim, the commander of the police force, to seek every training opportunity available and to develop an effective partnership with coalition forces.

"Partnering with the coalition forces will allow us to better mentor our policemen in the basics," said Jasim, who added he has observed a remarkable transformation in the once-raw recruits.

"They know their weapons and the fundamentals of conducting checkpoints and searches," said Jasim, though he did acknowledge this process still is a work in progress.

Army Sgt. Jay Gillam, with Company D, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, is responsible for leading instruction in basic rifle marksmanship.

"These guys are able because they are eager to learn," Gillam said. "They continue to improve with each training block we teach them."

The rapport between the soldiers and the Iraqi police officers is impressive, which was clear as Army Sgt. Spencer Arnold, who serves with Company D, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, entertained the group through an interpreter and laughter broke out after the translation.

Despite the differences in their backgrounds, the common goal of securing their respective neighborhoods has united these men in ways neither might have imagined.

"We want them to succeed," Arnold said. "With their ongoing partnership, the security situation in Kadhamiyah can only grow more successful by the day."

The Right Reverend James W. "Your assistance will not only help Afghanistan better protect and care for its citizens, but will also reinforce your important role in ensuring peace and stability around the globe."

Macedonia has 135 troops in Afghanistan and 80 in Iraq. It also has participated in many NATO exercises, and is considering augmenting its presence in Afghanistan as its forces end their deployment to Iraq in December, U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia Philip T. Reeker said.

Through a translator at the news conference following his meeting with Gates, Konjanovski said Macedonia plans to continue contributing to security efforts outside its borders.

"We were praised for the participation of the army of the Republic of Macedonia in peace support operations and missions abroad," Konjanovski said, "which will continue in the future, and we are always ready to participate where our help is needed."

Attending his second regional defense ministers conference in southeastern Europe as U.S. secretary of defense, Gates promised continued support for the participating nations' aspirations.

"I would like reiterate America's commitment to helping integrate southern Europe into Euro-Atlantic institutions, such as the [European Union] and NATO," Gates said. "The United States strongly supports Macedonia's aspirations to become a full member of NATO."

Konjanovski thanked America and Gates for U.S. support for Macedonia's NATO membership. Greece, Macedonia's neighbor to the south, nixed Macedonia's NATO membership during the alliance's April summit meeting in Bucharest, Romania. Since Macedonia's breakaway from Yugoslavia in 1991, Greece has worried that Macedonia has territorial ambitions over a Greek province of the same name.

"We encourage Macedonia and Greece to find an immediate solution to the name issue, which is in the best interests of both parties and the region," Gates said.

The Right Reverend James W. The video begins with step by step instructions on how to field dress a deer as demonstrated by VDGIF Wildlife Biologist Ron Hughes.

Then, professional butcher and hunter education instructor Rob Bingel demonstrates the best way to cape out a deer for mounting. The video really gets good when he shows in detail how to de-bone and professionally butcher a deer using only a knife and a hacksaw. Sure, many of us think we know how to process a deer, but seeing the way Rob does it with no wasted effort is well worth the price of the video.

By the end of the video you will learn how to make butterfly chops, de-bone a front shoulder, tie up a roast using a butcher’s knot, be able to identify all the proper cuts of meat on a deer, and more! This is one video you will watch over and over! The price is only $12 each.

Please allow approximately 4 weeks for shipping.

Sorry, we cannot ship to addresses outside the United States.

Price: $12.00

The Right Reverend James W. The decision gives the power company permission to string the 500-kilovolt line along 15-story towers through farms, forests and suburban areas in six counties, including Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William.

Yesterday, critics of the project, citing environmental concerns, said they were not done fighting and would appeal the ruling to the Virginia Supreme Court.

But commission members said that although they were "sympathetic to the opponents' position that planning for transmission, generation and conservation should be done in an integrated and holistic process," Dominion had demonstrated that there was a dire need and that state law required them to approve it.

Officials at Dominion, which has 2.3 million customers and is the state's largest energy provider, said construction must begin as soon as possible to eliminate the threat of rolling blackouts beginning in 2011. Demand for electricity has risen by more than 8 percent in the past decade as the region has developed, officials have said, creating instability in the electrical grid.

But the company has one more hurdle before it can start building. The line is part of a larger, 250-mile project that Dominion is proposing jointly with Pennsylvania-based Allegheny Energy. That $1.3 billion line would begin in Pennsylvania, cross part of West Virginia and enter Virginia in Frederick County.

West Virginia officials have agreed to their portion, but Pennsylvania has not made a decision on the mile within its borders. A decision is expected any day, and a denial could derail the Virginia section. Opposition to the line has been fierce in Pennsylvania, but Allegheny is negotiating with officials and the four landowners to gain support.

Two other large power lines have been proposed for the Washington area. One would start in West Virginia and end close to the Montgomery County border. The other would begin in Prince William, extend through Southern Maryland and then cross the Chesapeake Bay to the Eastern Shore.

The power companies say the lines are necessary to keep up with the mid-Atlantic's voracious demand for electricity.

Opposition to the 65 miles in Virginia has been consistent among environmentalists, landowners and others who have said the towers would scar a landscape fiercely protected over the years because of its natural beauty and historical significance.

Early on, Dominion bowed to pressure by changing its proposed route to bypass Civil War battlefields and environmentally sensitive areas to generally follow existing rights of way. But opposition has not diminished, especially among environmental groups, which say the new line will encourage the construction of polluting coal plants that contribute to global warming. They have advocated such alternatives as conservation and upgrades to existing lines.

Among the strongest opponents is the Piedmont Environmental Council, a group that has helped shape outlying parts of Northern Virginia with its anti-sprawl efforts. The group says the corporation commission has relied too heavily on an analysis prepared by PJM Interconnection, a cooperative of power companies that coordinates transmission lines in 13 states.

"I think I join with thousands of Virginians in being slightly outraged today," said Chris Miller, president of the Piedmont Environmental Council. "Obviously, the law is broken if you get this kind of result, and we certainly are going to be raising some issues on appeal."

A well-funded group with such high-profile supporters as actor Robert Duvall, the council has raised more than $3 million to fight the proposal. But the council was up against one of the most dominant forces in Richmond: Dominion has more than a dozen registered lobbyists, and its political action committee contributes thousands of dollars to state and local candidates.

The decision comes as Americans grapple with rising energy costs. Allegheny and Dominion officials said the cost of building the line will be distributed among the utilities that belong to PJM, which will probably pass it on to their customers. However, a Dominion spokeswoman said its customers might not face an increase in their bills because of the savings involved with owning a transmission line.

"Once this is built, we would have other utilities, other generation, that we can tap in order to bring electricity to Northern Virginia," Le-Ha Anderson said.

Demand for electricity has risen steadily over the years, fueled in part by the area's rapid growth and an increased use of electricity-guzzling appliances and electronics, Anderson said. She said the redevelopment of Tysons Corner from a suburb into an urban hub served by Metrorail will further increase demand.

In addition, she said, Northern Virginia is home to dozens of data centers, which use enormous amounts of electricity to store information for the government and private companies.

But the decision also comes among heightened environmental awareness, especially about global warming. Opponents of the line have proposed a combination of demand-response programs, which help consumers monitor and reduce their electricity use, and small-scale cleaner power plants to alleviate the need for the line. They also have accused Dominion of exaggerating the need and seeking to profit by selling excess energy to New York and New Jersey.

The Right Reverend James W. He explained the recently launched Chemical-Biological Warfare Exposures Web site during a "DotMilDocs" radio program on BlogTalkRadio.com Oct. 2.

Officials launched the site to educate people on what was done and to also let them know what DoD knows about it, Kilpatrick said.

"The CB exposures Web site explains why the testing was done, where it was done, what was used in the testing, and really what DoD learned from the testing," he said.

Kilpatrick added that the Web site presents sections on chemical and biological testing that was conducted during World War II, during Project 112/SHAD -- shipboard hazard and defense -- and the Cold War. He explained why some of the testing, in particular during World War II, was conducted.

"Chemical agents were used against our troops in World War I," Kilpatrick said. "As we went into World War II, we didn't know how to best protect our people, and during the Cold War we continued testing to understand how chemical and biological warfare agents behaved in different climates and terrains."

Officials have been working for a couple years trying to understand the chemical and biological exposure research that happened during the Cold War, Kilpatrick said. "As we got information," he said, "we passed names of individuals and medically related information to the Department of Veterans Affairs."

Project 112/SHAD was a series of tests conducted from 1962 to 1973 on Navy ships at sea in various climates and in land-based tests in various terrains using chemical and biological agents, as well as simulated agents. Servicemembers were not test subjects.

"The Project 112/SHAD records were more difficult, because these were, essentially, classified tests looking at the behavior of chemical-biological-warfare agents," Kilpatrick said. "Since the sailors on the ships... were not human volunteers, it was more difficult to find out who they were. That process involved going through the ships' logs to determine who was assigned to those ships."

As officials conclude their search through archived files, they are relying on veterans who were involved in the testing to provide additional information, Kilpatrick said.

"Veterans can really help point us in other directions or give us other clues," he said. "As we are trying to recreate what happened 30 to 60 years ago, it is oftentimes very difficult. They may have papers, which would not have been archived, that may help fill in blanks about what we understand happened."

DoD and VA officials are working together to identify and notify servicemembers who were exposed in chemical-biological testing from the 1940s through the mid-1970s. Once DoD finds who was exposed to what agents at what time and where, that information is passed to the VA to then try to locate the individual and notify him.

"Once we have searched all locations for archived information on these exposures, the active part will be over," Kilpatrick said. "DoD plans to complete this search in 2011. However, the process is open-ended. It will never be closed. That's why we ask any veteran with any information to contact us. David D. McKiernan, who also will continue to serve as the NATO/International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) commander.

The stand-up of the USFOR-A headquarters is intended to enable the most efficient command and control of U.S. forces in Afghanistan and ensure effective integration and coordination between U.S. and coalition forces operating under NATO/ISAF.

The majority of U.S. resources and personnel not dedicated to ISAF are committed to training the Afghan National Security Forces through Combined Security Transition Command- Afghanistan. As USFOR-A commander, Gen. McKiernan is now responsible for the overall training mission and able to help tailor it to ensure Afghan forces are best prepared to operate with ISAF forces and provide security and stability to the nation of Afghanistan.

Under this new arrangement, the approximately 20,000 U.S. forces, operating as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, will come under the operational control of USFOR-A. The ISAF and OEF chains of command will remain separate and distinct, and U.S. Central Command will continue to oversee U.S. counterterrorism and detainee operations.

The Right Reverend James W. No coalition forces were wounded.

One enemy fighter blew himself up Oct. 2 as coalition forces targeted the Haqqani terrorist network in Khowst province.
