In the current climate, I would strongly encourage anyone buying or selling services to invest in practical negotiation training. Most businesses are under a huge amount of pressure to maintain revenue streams, and this means that there are huge opportunities to negotiate discounts if you have the right skills to do so.

I was at a client event last week at the Little Ship Club on the Thames. A good client of mine was throwing a party for some 350 guests. It was a great venue - and they threw a great party!

Having trained this client in presentation skills, client engagement, networking skills and pitching, it was especially pleasing to see them perform "for real" and I must say I was impressed with the way they practised our golden rules.

More and more I hear from our clients the increasing need to conduct business over the phone. This is never going to be as effective as face to face communication, so I would always urge doing that where possible. It is clear however that travel budgets just don't allow this as much these days – if at all. So if you do find you are speaking to your clients and stakeholders a great deal over the phone then this is how you can get more from the calls.

Black Isle Groups Founder and Chairman, John Miers interviewed by Randy Thomas from the ThatChannel.com to discuss the history of the firm, the crucial attributes of a great keynote speech and give advice on how to deliver a great presentation.

So your team is now at the Norming stage in Tuckman's life cycle of a team model.

As mentioned last time you've done well in getting the team to this stage but as a business leader you need your team to be highly motivated and performing at it's highest level.
